I vacillate between being frustrated and being genuinely interested in Melissa's struggle. My frustration is the deadly combination of low self-esteem and bad decisions. The credit card thing and stealing from her brother is cringe as hell even if bro is a whole two-faced mess. I deeply dislike the pining over Alex, the toxic relationship with Rory and her neediness. It just feels like underneath it all is the supposition that she'd be alright (and more desirable) if she wasn't a big girl. I love the comedic moments and maybe I'm all the way off on this show but I'm going to keep watching. Thinking that the wedding trip will be a hot nasty mess and Mel will end up somehow seeing that Terrence is right there, wanting to be her boo thang.
This is so well articulated.. I've struggled with posting this video because I love Natasha and want her to have all of the success, but I struggle with the funny but depressed big girl trope. I'm gonna come back after I watch the remaining episodes.
@@mysweetperspective I so want her to heal and realize that she is enough, dammit! I love Natasha Rothwell, too & I know that she is capable of the biggest things.
I agree with most of this. But I don't think the underlying thing is that if she lost weight everything would be better. I actually think it's just if she learned to accept her self and want better for herself (like the career motivation), that things would start to look up. I definitely thought a lot was cringe, but honestly, I know people like this of all sizes. People that self sabotage, pine after men, and aren't always self aware. I really like this show as a whole. She needs to stop stealing for sure.
I love Natasha Rothwell, the divers cast, the honest depiction of the lives of the working class, and the realistic depiction of financial stress. I do not like the comical approach to credit card fraud and I'm watching in fear every episode for that terrible decision to resurface and ruin the progress the main character, Melissa, has made. Her inability to see the good man and friend in the baggage handler, the decision to use her brother's information to produce a co-signer, and choosing to have s*x with the married co-worker (although unaware of his status), is all very cringe, but somehow Natasha Rothwell makes it funny and relatable. The fact that she wears clothes you would expect a person making $15.42 an hours to wear is wonderful! No unrealistic Sex in the City budgets here!
I enjoyed it. Some parts I found very frustrating but other parts are very (sadly) relatable. I felt very seen when she said Ikea is her happy place lol
I’m undecided about how I feel about this show. I don’t hate it but I don’t love it either. But the way they cancel all black shows besides Tyler Perry and Power. I’m definitely going to keep watching.
@mysweetperspective definitely, bc the cliffhanger...hmph, well leave you wanting more, especially with her ain't ish brother lol! New subbie, so don't be surprised to see more comments on other videos from me lol
@@coryjackson6944 that's a fair assessment, but the networks and streaming services are full of shows that were not intended for me either. I feel we need to take every opportunity to teach the algorithms so the powers in charge will create more content for the female women of color demographic.
I really enjoyed the first 3 episodes overall but sometimes I feel like she made a lot of decisions that I REALLY didn’t like. Some of the comedy was funny but throwing up on that lady’s face was NOT FUNNY! It was a deep introspective moment and that seemed like a cheap shot for laugh. Her friend Rory is absolutely garbage. And I was really disappointed to see how she broke up with that guy who truly wanted to be with her! He wanted her and she turned him down for no reason!
