John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you had known the gift of God and who it is who says to you, ‘Give me water[d] to drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”

Here you cannot mean the Holy Spirit twice in different forms. Jesus might as well have said unless one is born of spirit and spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom. And that is essentially what you're saying because of Living Waters representing the holy spirit of God . From the ancient Church this has always meant baptism and hit the spirit which ought to be received immediately after being baptized

Excellent exegesis. Your pointing back to Genesis 1 to highlight Scripture’s first use of water and Spirit was profound…but even more profound than understanding that John 3 points back to Genesis 1 is in understanding that Genesis 1 was, from the beginning, pointing FORWARD to John 3. 🤯 Soli Deo Gloria!

Don't be burdened: Jesus's final statement was, "He, having believed and having been baptized, shall be saved." THAT is a correct translation of the passage. What you need to try to do is get "having been baptized" on the other side of "shall be saved." Water baptism is not a work - and never has been. It is, however, obedience. Neither is confessing Christ as the Son of God a work. That, too, is simply obedience. In neither case, the person is not earning or meriting pardon. The only groups that really teach baptismal regeneration are the Roman papists and Mormons.

It cracks me up that people make arguments against baptismal regeneration apart from scriptures that are directly talking about baptism. Believing is a work as well. This is the work of God that you believe on him who has sent me. Is repentance they work? Your intentionally turning from sin, and to the Lord Jesus Christ. The folly is causing water baptism to be works righteousness and that is not necessarily the case. In fact, if you look at the conversion experiences of the book of acts, people, repented, were baptized, in the name of Jesus, if you please, and we’re filled with the spirit, act 2:38, 8-12:16, 10:48, 19-1:5, 22:16. I do not completely disagree with you on your premise, but the way you get there is what I take issue with. It could be that we are begotten of the word, or at least conceived, John 6:63, 17:17, Ephesians 5:26, although I have heard this scripture argued for baptism, one Peter 1:23, James, one: 18. But the problem is that we tend to think of salvation as a mirror moment of faith. It begins there at initial justification by faith, but it does not in there. so it is possible that one could be justified, but still in need of regeneration. Salvation is a whole consists of justification, regeneration, adoption, sanctification, glorification, etc. So definitely baptism saves. The question is, how does it save? But it certainly has saving quality, mark 16:16, acts to - 38:41, one Peter 3-20: 21. We also need to be sealed by the Holy Spirit, Ephesians one: 13, 430, etc. Maybe if we would stop confusing justification with regeneration, our discussions would be better along this line as a whole. As to the thief on the cross, though I disagree with this argument, many would argue that because Jesus had not yet died, and therefore, under that dispensation, the thief could be saved, Hebrews 9:22. I would disagree with this premise, because they were baptizing before, the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. In fact, the religious leaders disobeyed the council of God, being not baptized of Jesus, Luke 7:30. So baptism was the wheel of God even back then before Christian baptism. sorry for the typos. I have no vision and I’m dictating this to Siri and sometimes she gets it wrong, but if I immerse her in water, my phone probably won’t work. Lol.

Think what content would actually glorify God, cuz if it doesnt glorify God, then why waste time with it? it glorifies the devil and his lies. Instead of playing games: study the Bible(there's a lot to, and you need to know it), pray to God to guide you in order to serve Him and serve using your talents, resources, experiences and everything He gave you, learn a language/instrument maybe, try to think of a job that would enable you to serve God and spread the word, even if the job is not focused on that( but shouldnt be a job that is a sin, sinful, of course), but that lets you serve Him

Jesus is referring to Water Baptism. That is the view of every single Church Father who addressed this verse. Nobody seriously doubted it until the Protestant Reformation.
It is through baptism that we entered the Church (1 Cor. 12:13). It is the “washing of regeneration” that St. Paul speaks about (Titus 3:5). Baptism is not “our works” but it is the work of Christ applied to us (you cannot baptize yourself).

We are washed by the water of the word (Ephesians 5:26)
Regenerated by the Holy Spirit, the living water of John 7:38-39.
“In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.” (Colossians 2:11-12).
Water baptism is a removal of the flesh, just like circumcision was for the old covenant. Except under the old covenant it was a literal piece of flesh, but under the new covenant the term flesh usually means sin nature. So when we are baptized, we are putting the sin nature off.
In Romans chapter 6, Paul addresses the question “shall believers keep on sinning?”
“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who DIED TO SIN live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we should walk in newness of life. For if we have been untied together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our OLD MAN WAS CRUCIFIED WITH HIM, that the BODY OF SIN might be done away with, that we should NO LONGER BE SLAVES OF SIN. For he who has died has been FREED FROM SIN. Now if we died with Christ, we believe we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be DEAD INDEED TO SIN, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:1-11).
We are doing a physical act, by faith, reflecting a spiritual reality. That’s why Colossians 2:12 says “ you were also raised with Him, THROUGH FAITH in the working of God.” We, through baptism, are dying to the old and rising to the new!
Now we can finally understand the famous scripture in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ (baptism in the name of Jesus), he is a new creation, old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

The apostle Peter gave us the explanation for John 3:5.
"Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever" (1Pt.1:22-23).
First, notice our souls are purified when we obey the truth. Not when we believe the truth, but when we obey the truth, "through the Spirit."
"Being born again by the Word of God."
The Holy Spirit works on our hearts through the Word of God. When we obey the truth, our souls are purified/forgiven/saved.
When Nicodemus came to Jesus that night, he had no intentions of being baptized under John's baptism, and Jesus knew Nicodemus and the the other pharisees "rejected the counsel of God for themselves not being baptized of John" (Lk.7:29).
Think about this for a moment, to refuse John's baptism was a rejection of salvation. John's baptism was heaven sent, and Jesus sits on that counsel as well.
But for those who submitted to John's baptism, Jesus promised would "go" into the kingdom (Mt.21:22-23).
Remember Jesus said, "Unless a man is born of water and Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom."
Since John's baptism granted entrance into the kingdom, and Jesus warned Nicodemus if he was not born again of water, then it stands to reason that water is baptism.
Both John and Jesus were baptizing thousands at this time, a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins" (Mk.1:4-5; Jn.4:1-2). If Nicodemus had any intentions of becoming a disciple of Christ, then he needed to go through the same process as everyone else.
Nicodemus had a rough time understanding what Jesus meant by having to be born again.
His question was, "How can a man when he is OLD be born again?"
For Nicodemus, an OLD man to be born again, two elements were required. Water and Spirit.
Nicodemus did not have a problem with water referring to baptism. It was all around him as thousands were being baptized in water. There is no reason to give water a foreign meaning. The rest was difficult for Nicodemus, as Jesus was humbling Nicodemus.
"Unless a man is born of water (baptism/obedience), and Spirit (through the Word of God), he can not enter into the kingdom.
If Nicodemus heeded Jesus' warning and was baptized that night or the following day, he was born again. The reception of the Spirit came on Pentecost.

Three nights later I opened myself up to communicate and the energy was softer and more peaceful. I asked her where did she go when she died because her spirit was chaotic and scary. She showed me
Her face came up out of fire water and she went towards the white bubble. God gave her this option to come from where she was when she first died.

Baptism is the outward sign of this inward reality of regeneration. And while there is sacramental union(there one baptism not too) they are not so attached that when is recieved the other is automatically received. This means that scripture can use baptismal language for both the outward sign and the inward reality.

I come from a Oneness Pentecostal background. The OP position is very close to baptismal regeneration, but tries to distinguish itself as different. John 3:5 is a HUGE proof text that Oneness Pentecostals use to prove their position. If then, it is proven that their position is based on a mis-interpretation of that text then one of the main pillars their religious system comes crashing down. Pastor Wade, you made a strong point about water and spirit being ONE and not separate experiences and the verses you gave seem to support that position. Actually a few other verses were popping into my head as I was listening. For example, Jesus spoke of Water and Spirt as one in John 7:37-39. Isaiah 12 speaks of having joy "drinking/drawing water from the wells of salvation". While spirit is not mentioned in Isaiah 12, the act of drinking seems lend itself to the idea of receiving the Spirit as opposed to getting baptized. Just a few thoughts...

Water and Spirit baptism are both part of the spiritual rebirth of the believer. Acts ch.2 says that repentance and water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is for the remission of sin.
Paul said in Hebrews that under the old covenant that the blood of bulls was ineffective in removing " consciousness of sins"( Heb.10:2). Consciousness of sin is guilt.
During water baptism, and because of the shed blood of Christ, our sins are remitted by the Holy Spirit circumcising our conscience, removing the guilt from past sins, and returning it to its original childlike innocence.
This is the " washing of regeneration" ( Titus 3:5)
Regeneration is defined as returning something to its original state. Ours was that of children innocent of the guilt caused by sin.
Jesus said that we must become as little children or we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven. The only way this can be bone is through regeneration.
This is also the new covenants antitype of the old covenants cleansing if the temple in preparation for the entry of the Spirit of God with blood and water.
Lastly, the Holy Spirit is recieved as a result of the Holy Spirit baptism. The old testament prophets had the Spirit of God come upon them, fill them, and then depart for a time.
The " anointing that abideth"( 1John 2:37) has to be recieved, ( Gr. taken hold of) by fervent prayer until the Lord answers the believers prayer. Then in order to trigger the fillings' overflow, which is what Spirit baptism is, one must surrender the last vestige of their will, their tongue.
The Word says that no man can tame their tongue so we must yield it to the Holy Spirit so He can. We continue to yield it until the Soirit takes control of it, " tames" it, and enables us to speak in the spiritual kanguage ghat our English translation calls " tongues".
Once this happens it triggers the fillings' overflow while at the same moment the Holy Spirit joins with ours. Now we have been born of Spirit and have recieved the Holy Spirit.

My reply to his video also centers on the proper interpretation and application of John 3:5. Your post never even mentions John 3:5 a single time. @R T Thank you for your kind comments. It's true, John 3:5 is very important in properly understanding the new birth. In John 4:5 the Lord says, " You must be born of water and Spirit in order to enter the kingdom of heaven. The word " of" in the original Greek means " source of".
So water and Spirit are the source of the new birth. The Lord draws a comparison between natural birth and spiritual rebirth, " That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which Is born of the Spirit is spirit,"
Just as natural birth is the end result of a process so is spiritual rebirth. Remission of sin during water baptism is the temple of our body being cleansed by the blood of Christ through the water of baptism. This is born of water, keeping in mind that the natural child emerges from the mother covered with water and blood.
Then, the temple of our body is cleansed and ready to be occupied by the Holy Spirit. That is accomplished by being filled with the Spirit to overflowing. That is why surrendering our tongue, once once filled, is essential to recieving the Holy Spirit because He must initiate the overflow be taming what we cannot, our tongue. He signifies that it has been accomplished by enabling us to speak in the spiritual language that we call "tongues".
I was aware of the Holy Spirits' presence near me and filled with the Spirit before I ever recieved the Holy Spirit as a permanently indwelling presence.

"I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire."

Water represents the soul located around the heart area. Soul is man's higher intelligence, soul separates man from all other animal kingdoms. Soul is not from here soul is holy begotten, is the wisdom of HIM called the ESSENCE of Him who is SHE sleeping within imaging to be awake living in a dream like state. What makes it holy is the unity of Christ. Those who receive Jesus Christ as their personal saviour, receive the Christ within. The Christ is the true spirit of the living God. The Christ is the divine light of the Fathers light. The Christ is life energy is the light. Soul liken to water becomes holy, able to move in Him and have His being. Soul female in essence, unites with the true Son of the Father , the Christ and these two form the new man within called the little child (5 years old) born of water and spirit set free from sin (the flesh). I think it’s being born again by Jesus and Holy Spirit but in acts 19 when Paul asks disciples if they were baptised of Holy Spirit they say that they heard nothing as of baptism of Holy Spirit and that they were baptised only to baptism of John where it states they believed that Jesus will be coming in future. So it makes sense with this verse that Jesus is the water(living water) and spirit(Holy spirit).

    • @nikeinjesus1
      @nikeinjesus1 9 месяцев назад

@...IT...Jason. In Acts 19, Paul did not ask the 12 if they had been baptized with the Holy Spirit. He asked them if they "received" the Holy Spirit since they believed." There is a difference, for only the apostles and the household of Cornelius were baptized with the Holy Spirit.
Every other convert in the NT received the gift of the Holy Spirit after baptism (Acts 2.38), except for a couple of exceptions.
In Acts 8 when Philip preached to the Samaritans. God had not yet granted repentance to the gentile nation. When the apostles heard that the Samaritans believed the gospel and were baptized, they sent Peter and John knowing full well that the Samaritans would not have received the Spirit.
On their way, they prayed, and God granted their request. When the apostles reached the Samaritans, they "layed" their hands on them so that they could receive the Spirit. Only the apostles had the gift of laying on of hands (vs.18).
The Samaritans received the gift of the Holy Spirit, but no signs, like speaking in tongues were given.
With the case of the 12 in Ephesus, the 12 received the gift of the Holy Spirit after Paul baptized them. Then Paul layed his hands on them so that they could receive miraculous gifts, as tongues and prophecy is mentioned in the passage.
The reason Paul had to baptize these 12, was because they had been baptized under John's baptism, but after the cross, which was not valid. If they had been baptized under John's baptism before the cross, then Paul would not have had to baptize them.
Now that he baptized them into Christ, their sins were forgiven, and they received the gift of the Holy Spirit. The laying on of hands was necessary for them to help Paul in his mission with gifts, to comfirm the Word.

You almost there in ur explanation, God blessed ur understanding.
The truth is, in John 3:11: Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
Therefore any one who speaks on this topic he must "personally experienced this verse", then he has the right to... "speak what he do KNOW and testify what he has SEEN".
For our initial understanding, (as i've witnessed and seen through dreams) in both births, either in physical or spiritual, there is water for water is "life".
In John 3:5, ... being "born of water and Spirit" it happens at the same time, the same in physical birth born of water(amniotic fluids) and flesh. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit(our newborn spirit) to worship God in "spirit and in truth.

Water symbolizes words, particularly those spoken from a divine source, embodying truth as emphasized in John 4:23 and 1 Peter 1:23. The concept of being "born again" relies on the incorruptible nature of both spirit and the eternal word of God, as stated in John 7:38 and Romans 10:10. The confession of the word leads to righteousness and salvation. In Revelation 12:11, overcoming is achieved through the Spirit represented by the blood of the Lamb and the declaration of truth, symbolized by their testimony. Thus, water signifies truth, while the pollution or flooding of water in the Bible represents falsehood.

I would argue it would have to do with accepting Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross
“but one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭19‬:‭34‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.”
    ‭‭1 John‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬ ‭KJV
Being born of water, accepting Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross, and being sanctified so born of the spirit accepting the work of the Holy Spirit inside of you so you can be regenerated this goes into understanding blasphemy of the Holy Spirit
“Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.”

Being born again is the new covenant antitype of the old covenants' temple rights.
The high priest would repent of his sins and the peoples'. Then, he would cleanse the temple with water and blood in preparation for the Spirit of God to enter the Holy of Holies.
However, the writer of Hebrews said that the blood of bulls and goats was ineffective in dealing with " consciousness of sins" which is guilt.
Thus, that guilt could only be covered so that the Spirit of God could enter the temple temporarily.
This resulted in the temple rites having to be repeated each year. This was dealt with with shedding of the blood of Christ.
So during water baptism, the Holy Spirit circumcises the believers' conscience, removing the guilt from past sins and returning it to its childlike innocence from the consequences of willful sin.
This is the " washing of regeneration" of Titus 3:5.The definition of the word " regeneration" is " to return something to its original state". The original state of our conscience is that of an innocent child.
This is being " born of water" and a vital part of the new birth.
Now, the Holy Spirit can be prayed for and enter the temple of our body and permanently reside there.
This is the spirit, water, and blood of 1John 5:8.
There is only one sign given of believers recieving the Holy Spirit when they recieved( ch.2,10,and chapter 19). And that sign is speaking in tongues, which is one spiritual language.

For anything to be added to the finished work on the cross to be classified as " works" would mean that repentance is " works", because it is an act of obedience the believer must do, after believing, in order to be saved.
Water baptism also would be " works" because it and repentance are commanded in order for us to recieve remission of sins( Acts 2:38).
The problem is that the protestant reformers made a grave error when they broke away from the catholics spoken of by the noted protestant author Tozier, " In our zeal to escape the saved by works of the catholics we committed the opposite error of faith without obedience".
Saving faith is our faith in action by obedience in order to recieve the free gift of salvation. The word " recieve", in the new testaments original Greek means," to take hold of".
The acts of obedience essential in recieving the free gift of salvation and to be born again are, reoentance and water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ and recieving the Holy Spirit ( Acts 2:38).
There are only three instances to where the Word records believers recieving the Holy Spirit and what occured the moment that they recieved, Acts ch.2,10,and ch.19. In each case the first thing that happened was that they spoke in tongues.

" For anything to be added to the finished work on the cross to be classified as " works" would mean that repentance is " works", because it is an act of obedience the believer must do, after believing, in order to be saved. "
Repentance is not a meritorious work by which one earns or contributes anything to his salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9). Repentance, like faith, is a gracious gift from God. Both are gifts that are given with the change of heart when one is born again by the Holy Spirit. The gift of faith is not merely the ability to believe, but a change of affection to want to believe. Likewise, the gift of repentance is not only the ability to repent, but a change of affection to want to repent. Those who are truly born again desire not only what Christ can do for them, but they likewise desire Christ Himself. Those who are truly born again desire not only deliverance from the consequence of sin, they likewise desire deliverance from sin itself.
How are we saved? By grace alone through faith alone in Christ Jesus alone.
      John 3:14-18
      14 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up;
15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
What does Christ mean in verse 14? He's citing from the old testament, Numbers 21, verses 4 through 9.
      Numbers 21:4-9
      The Bronze Serpent
4 Then they journeyed from Mount Hor by the Way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the soul of the people became very discouraged on the way. 5 And the people spoke against God and against Moses: “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and our soul loathes this worthless bread.” 6 So the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many of the people of Israel died.
7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you; pray to the Lord that He take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.
8 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.
God told Moses that all the people had to do was look at the serpent and they would be saved from their affliction. They didn't have to contribute anything in any way-just look at the serpent and trust in God's promise that they would be saved. It's the same with Jesus and He tells us this in John 3:14, all we have to do is believe and trust in His works, not ours, and we have eternal life.
Another example of salvation by faith alone is the Passover.
      Exodus 12:12-23
12 “For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. 13 Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.”
Did the LORD look into each house to see who was worthy of salvation by their works? No... they were saved from death by the blood of the passover lamb. Jesus is our Passover Lamb, the Lamb of God.

@Rick Davis Thanks for your comments. We recieve faith by recieving the " seed" of the Word into the receptive " soil" of our hearts. Then the Word itself reveals to us that it is true. " Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God"(Rom.10:17).
Repentance is not a gift because once we believe we must choose to change our mind toward God from disobedience to the willing ness to obey. Just because we have come to believe the Word doesn't mean that God makes us turn to Him with a willingness to obey.
What benefit is changing your mind toward God if you aren't willing to turn from sin and obey Him ?
Saving faith must be demonstrated in order to be effective in our recieving anything from the Lord including salvation. The word " recieve" in the NTs original Greek means," to take hold of"
Imagine if John the baptist was standing in the Jordan river ,but the people refused to let him water baptize them ? He said to them," Bring forth fruit meet for repentance" or what accompanies repentance ( Matt.3:8). John would have said that their repentance was incomplete and as a result ineffective in remitting their sins.
The protestant reformers did more harm than good when they broke away from the catholic church.
They deemed faith in action through obedience in order to recieve from God " works". Protestants have " A form of godliness but denying the power thereof"(2 Tim.3:5).
Their churches look and sound like the true way to be saved, but their insistence that faith without any corresponding action isn't necessary have robbed their people of the power needed in order to save them provided, the indwelling Holy Spirit..

Faith is not a work because it is something God must do within us. On our own, we are sinful and would never choose Christ apart from His leading us to Himself. In fact, when we realize the extent to which God has worked to freely offer us salvation, we realize we can take no credit for our salvation. It is only because of Him.
First, God's love is the initiator: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).
Second, Jesus is the author of our faith: "looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God" (Hebrews 12:2). Christ provides the opportunity for salvation and then offers it to us personally. Without Him, we would not have an option for salvation (Acts 4:12).
Third, we are saved for good works, not by good works: "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10).
Believing is not a work, but a response to what God is doing in our lives. No one is righteous (Romans 3:10). We are not saved by works we have done (Titus 3:5). Only Christ can save.
We may not completely understand the full distinction between our faith response and God's salvation in our lives. However, it is clear in Scripture that salvation is not something we earn by any work yet we must trust in Him by faith. Perhaps the analogy of a gift found in Ephesians 2:8-9 best expresses this idea: "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Work is contrasted with a gift.
When we receive a gift, we do not consider it "work" to open the gift. What we have received is free. We simply need to open it to enjoy it. The same is true of salvation. It is a gift God freely offers. We need not work to earn it. Rather, we only need to receive it. When we do, we experience joy and desire to share this joy with others.

Repentance is God's work as He changes us.
Eternal life is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Turning from sin is not required.
It's probably best to think of repentance as an aspect of discipleship. Both believers and unbelievers can understand God’s instructions in Scripture, see the devastating consequences of sin in their own lives, and as a result, repent of their sin and seek to follow God instead.
If unbelievers do this, such repentance may help bring them to the place where they believe in Jesus for eternal life, but if this happens, such repentance does not in any way contribute to their eternal life.
Of course, once a person believes in Jesus for eternal life, they can still (and should) repent of sin that they commit so that their lives can be transformed more and more into the image and likeness of Jesus Christ.
Repentance is a turning from sin and returning to the life God wants for us. This turning from sin does not help us earn or keep eternal life, but does help us follow Jesus on the path of discipleship. Repentance helps us gain freedom from the damaging and addicting power of sin in our lives.
Remembering this will help clarify the scores of passages in the New Testament which talk about repentance. These passages on repentance are not calling people to make changes to their behavior so that they can receive eternal life. No, passages on repentance are calling all people to change their lives so that they can avoid the negative and physical consequences of sin and live the life of joy and freedom that God wants.
Repentance is vitally important for living life with God and with each other the way life was meant to be lived, but repentance is not one of the conditions for receiving eternal life from God. Thankfully, eternal life is a free gift of God to anyone and everyone who believes in Jesus for it.

Good breakdown brother but I believe there’s still some validity to the idea of being born from the water and of the spirit being the water baptism of John in the spirit baptism of Christ. It appears that you put emphasis on the actual water baptism as if it was some type of work… But baptism was a sign of someone who had a heart of repentance. So if the thief on the cross was on able to be physically baptized in water, it was clear that Jesus recognized his heart of repentance. The baptism of John is called it such because John was the first one to begin to preach the message of repentance in connection with the baptism of water, and he mentioned many times that it was only to prepare the way for Christ to come and baptized in the spirit.

Apologia says the thief on the cross was never baptised. They don’t know that at all. He easily could have been baptised and arrested for being a thief subsequent to that. Why should his full life story be recorded in the New Testament just for non believers like Apologia?

Good video, but I'm not sure if you're aware that being baptized by water isn't considered solely a human action. Have you heard of the phrase "ex opere operato," which means the sacrament's efficacy is inherent because it serves as the means to bestow grace upon us?
I believe that the efficacy of baptism isn't limited to the moment of baptism; it occurs whenever God wills it. Therefore, baptism isn't solely the work of humans but rather of God utilizing human agents, such as parents, the priest, water, tradition and the word of God. It would be wrong to consider baptism as a mere "work," as this contradicts the Protestant view of faith.

I tend to disagree with you. The water does represent the baptism of John, the baptism of repentance, which is required. Without repentance there is no salvation, and without salvation, there is no power (fire or Holy Spirit) given. The thief on the cross was baptized by Jesus himself. When Jesus was baptized, he told John it was to fulfill All righteousness. The Thief repented of his sins then believed that Jesus was the Messiah, then Jesus already took care of his water baptism, its no different in a hospital when a person repents and accepts Jesus, then dies, his baptism would have been carried out but do to the situation as the thief, Jesus covers them with his baptism. Faith without works is dead my friend, you can’t have faith without works, works proves your faith. I’m pretty sure if you believed [have faith] that it was going to rain, you would take a umbrella [works or Action] with you. This would truly say I believe, because you took the umbrella. Baptism does the same thing, it announces to the world that you really believe in what God says. The Bible is clear on this subject. Yes Jesus was a gift, but its still conditional on your works [Action]. Baptism is a covenant between you and God that you are willing to die to yourself in exchange for newness in Christ righteousness. Jesus said “if you love me keep my Commandments,” for the commandments is the fulfillment of love Rom 13:8-10. Jesus said, “be Holy as my Father in Heaven is Holy.” Does this imply that he wants us to be legalistic or save by works? Would he ask us to do something impossible? Of course not. He wants people doing it out of love as he did for his Father Jhn 15:10. Good Works proves your a Christian, those who believe other wise will go around as hypocrites as Gandhi said, “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”

38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Also, what about the Word being the water?
    Ephesians 5:25-26 KJV
    25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Born of water: The Bible said in Genesis 2:7 that, " And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground." In Job 33:7 "I also am formed out of the clay." What is clay? Clay is dust mix with water. Water is an essential(an indispensable) material to form man, so, we can say man is born of water.
Likewise, if flesh or man receives Spirit, he will born again. Flesh mix with Spirit will became born of Spirit. To be born again, Spirit is indispensable.

John 15:3 "You are already clean because of the Word I have spoken to you".
John 7:38 "Out of your belly shall flow rivers of living water". We preach the Word out of our mouths once we have the spirit.
    Just some ideas to consider

The main problem here is he thinks this verse, John 3:5 is talking about what needs to happen in order to be saved. But the word saved or salvation is not even in the verse. Jesus is talking about what is necessary to enter the kingdom of God. Jesus is not talking about what is necessary in order to be saved! I believe we need to have Faith in Christ alone to be saved! It is biblically inaccurate to claim that baptism is a "work" added to the gospel. It's faith alone when you are baptized that saves you, but "faith alone" is not an excuse not to be baptized or work. Luke 13 Jesus says unless you repent, you will perish. Idk who has repented of something before, but that takes some serious work. Am I "earning" my salvation now just because I'm "working". No, of course not. But I still have a clear command to repent and die to myself, which does take work. Someone might try to change their life for the better and not get drunk and laid every night, but if they aren't doing it out of faith towards God, then what does it benefit them? Thats what faith alone means. Not that you can simply believe and not make any changes or actions in your life. Baptism is not "faith plus works" just like repentence is not "faith plus works." It's all part of true faith that Jesus commands.

Greek has a word for 'again', Jesus said 'anothen' which mean "From Above" which implies a Heavenly new birth.
1Thes. 4:16 describes this "anothen" process. "16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:" This is the Born again that was mistranslated in many translations. Paul makes these ideas clear in 1st Corinthians 15:40-50
"40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: 43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: 44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. 46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. 47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. 48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. 49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
I hope people can see how John 3:3 "can not see the Kingdom of God" matches up with verse 50 above "can not inherit the Kingdom of God"
Jesus was talking of the Resurrection of the dead and Nicodemus was confused. He should have known this. Christians today walk around claiming to be "Born Again", when they should be saying I'm in the spirit or a strong believer in Christ.
The salvation one can never lose is when one has their Celestial Body which comes at the Resurrection of the Just when Jesus returns at the last day.

I believe that water baptism is lied to circumcision in Colossians, two versus 11 and following. It is spiritual circumcision. Abraham was reckoned righteous apart from circumcision, but when the time came forward, he certainly was. Child was nearly killed for not being circumcised. So yes, I believe that one can go to heaven, if they do not have the understanding/knowledge/opportunity of baptism, in the name of the Lord Jesus, but if Christian baptism is refused, and the individual is unrepentant, I would have serious concerns, Mark, 16:16, act 2-308:41, one Peter 3:21. Also, James 2-14: 26. Also, examine James 2:7 and the light of baptism and see what you find.

My explanation is as follows: To be born again of water and spirit signifies that during Jesus's Passover, we Christians are to consume unleavened bread and water. By faith, and with gratitude towards God's Holy Spirit, we are empowered to partake of Jesus's blood and flesh. It is crucial to understand that the Holy Spirit transforms the substance, a process we must embrace through the power of faith. Similarly, as the exterior requires purification, so too must the interior be cleansed. Jesus communicated this principle to the Pharisees. Regrettably, as Daniel has noted, the fourth kingdom altered the Law. We humans mistakenly believe that Jesus's blood is associated with wine, which is a significant misconception. In truth, Jesus's blood is symbolically linked to water. Please read the scriptures, otherwise, this mystery won't make sense.

Baptism is a work just like repentance, and faith is a work of God. I do believe that a person can go to heaven apart from that baptism, but I do not believe your reasoning to be correct. The baptism has absolutely nothing to do with salvation, because of the scriptures that I cited in my previous comments. Why could baptism not be the meeting place of Grayson Faith? The Romans obeyed from the heart the form of doctrine that they had learned, I believe Romans 6:16. Anyone who refuses baptism cannot be assured that they truly have repentant, saving faith, James, 2-14: 26. The Abraham was reckoned righteous before he was circumcised, he had to continue on in faith, which is exactly what James emphasizes. Just because someone has a high view of baptism does not mean that they are putting faith in their own goodness/righteousness, it means that they are putting feet to their faith, just like everyone did in God‘s Hall of Fame in Hebrews 11. Even though Paul was called a brother by Ananias, he still had to wash away his sins and call on the name of the Lord, act 22:16. So this idea that baptism is always a “work “apart from faith is ridiculous. The same book of Galatians were Paul emphasizes grace through faith is where he also in Galatians 3:27. Tells us that as many of us as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. If one continues to refuse to be baptized in his name, can you really say that you had put on Christ? If circumcision was refused, you would be cut off from Israel, even though it was not the act in of itself. It is Obedience. Baptism is part of initiation, act 2:38, 22:16, Romans 6-3:6, one Corinthians 6:11, Titus 3:5 could refer to this, Mark 16:16, one Peter 3:21, so no. Telling people that they must be baptized to be obedient does not add to the gospel. It is reenacting the gospel and is a proper response to the gospel. Compare one Corinthians 15-3:4 with acts 2:38, 8-12:16, 10:48, 19:5, Hebrews 6-1:3.

The thief asked Jesus to remember him which shows he had a repented heart but that was during the OT covenant. Hebrews 9 mentions a testament is of force after men are dead. The NT was in the blood of Jesus which was not shed until they pierced His side and out came blood and water. We all were born with an inherited sin from the first man Adam and have committed sins throughout our lives that need to be washed. John was sent to prepare the way of the Lord and preached repentance and baptized the people in water but still was missing the most important element that was needed to wash away the sins of the people, the blood of the Lamb. Jesus went to the cross and shed blood for the sins of the world and came back the 3rd day and told His apostles that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations beginning at Jerusalem. Peter stood and preached the Lord Jesus and told the people to repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. He did exactly what Jesus commanded him and the rest of the apostles. Ananias told Paul to arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins calling on the name of the Lord. In order to get the blood we got to be baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ. When Jesus said except a man be born of water and of the Spirit we cannot enter into the kingdom of God, He was talking about being baptized in water in His name to have our sins washed away and also be filled with the Holy Ghost which He promised to give to them that obey Him. The gentiles were all filled with the Holy Ghost in acts 10 then Peter asked can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? Then he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. We can’t have one without the other and have the new birth. After Philip preached Jesus to the eunuch they came to some water and the eunuch said, see, here’s water, what’s stopping me from being baptized and Philip said if you believe with all your heart you can. The eunuch said he believed that Jesus was the Son of God so Philip stopped and took him down in water and baptized him. The prison keeper asked Paul and Silas, what must I do to be saved and they said to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved and his house. They preached the word to the keeper and his house and that same hour were baptized in the name of the Lord. Everyone that heard the word and believed were all baptized in water in the name of the Lord Jesus bc they understood what they needed to do to be saved. There’s a difference in what the Bible means when it talks about works. There was nothing we could do under the OT law to be saved so the Lord took away the OT sacrifice and made the way. The Bible says faith without works is dead so what works is it talking about? obedience to God is work but it’s good works. Denying our flesh is work but it’s good works. The Bible says I will show you my faith by my works. Good works come about by faith. When we believe, we obey the word of the Lord. Repentance and being baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ is for remission of sins and God promises to give the Holy Ghost if we obey. That is what Jesus told Nicodemus we must be born again of water and Spirit

Apologia again preach their false gospel against good works being a part of our salvation. Anytime Paul spoke about grace through faith over works he was meaning the works of the mosaic law not works of righteousness. As indicated in other things that he wrote; 1 Corinthians 9:24. That we are justified by good works is a very biblical concept; James 2:17, 24.

Wow, you seem to make simple scripture much more difficult.
Nicodemus did not confuse born “again” or “from above” and chose the wrong choice for two reasons. First, he did not hear it in “Greek”, and second his reply, “how can a man be born when he is old?”, which Jesus did not rebuke, but only clarified what baptism is.
Jesus told the thief "To day shalt thou be with me in paradise," but three days later, he told Mary Magdalene "Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father" (John 20:17). If Jesus was with the thief "today" in paradise, but three days later had not yet ascended to the Father, where was he during that time? It wasn't "heaven". The thief still had to accept the gospel and submit to judgment, the same as the rest of us. As many early Christians believed, there are degrees in the next life.
I don’t understand why Protestants are so opposed to works. As the insightful Helen Keller rightly deduced, when speaking of the fruits of the 18th century, "faith alone was exalted, and not faith either, but a self-centered assumption that belief alone was necessary to salvation." James 2: 24, “By works a man is justified, and not by faith only.” NOT by faith alone-right there in the Bible. Works simply qualify us for salvation by grace-they do not substitute for grace in and of themselves. Should we ignore the many other verses that tell us baptism is necessary? “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.” (Mark 16: 16) Jesus says to, “come follow me”, and he was baptized.

Brother when you pass away, are you going to have a sheet of your earthly works to hold up to the face of the Living God as a qualification for being saved? Does that not eliminate the fact that salvation is a gift in it’s nature? Does that not show you are trying to take pride in what you have done vs. what the blood of Jesus has covered? In Ephesians 2:10, The Bible says that we were “created in Christ Jesus for good works”, not BY good works … works are the result, not the origin, of a living faith. (Rom 3:20-28)
Why else would Paul point out Abraham of all people and say, “For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? ‘Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.’” (Rom 4:4-5).
And I think James’ point in writing about the nature of works and faith is “If works aren’t a consequence, then is there a faith?” If there aren’t works as a consequence of an existing faith, then is the person justified to begin with?
“Works simply qualify us for salvation by grace”? So you’re saying we have to work to be qualified to receive a gift? Lolol, before you buy Christmas presents for others, do you make sure they measure up to your qualification standard before you buy them gifts? Or do you give presents to others because you love them and have chosen to give them gifts? Did the disciples have to be qualified to be chosen by Christ? Or did Christ qualify them to represent Him after they were called? (We’re talking about Galilean fishermen, a tax collector, a political zealot, etc., not a pristine bunch)
And “simple” texts, whenever they are unpacked, naturally become complicated. You know that, right? That’s kinda normal when diving into the languages and exegeting the depth of the Scriptures. Just like the nature of the gospel: It’s simple (The gospel is so simple that Scripture says, “‘The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart.’ And that message is the very message about faith that we preach: If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:8-9), yet when we as imperfect and fallen beings try to wrap our arms around the fullness of the gospel and unpack it, it becomes complicated. Which is why we’re having this conversation.
Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

@@AustinSwin If salvation was completely a free gift and no works were required to receive it, just like a Christmas present, as you say, then absolutely everyone ever born would be saved. All atheists, all Muslims, all Hindu, everyone. We have nothing to be worried about! We are all going to be saved! If this is not the case then there must be some kind of qualification. Even faith is a qualification. The question is, how extent does the qualification go? The scriptures tell us plainly. Faith, repentance, baptism, endure to the end.
Until the Gnostics were silenced, the belief that faith alone is all that is needed was only regurgitated fairly recently, from the Reformers. Mainstream Christianity back to the time of Jesus did not believe it. So is all of Christianity before Luther and Calvin doomed to hell?
As I plainly stated, works do not substitute for grace in any way. We cannot earn our salvation. Our “works” do not replace the atonement of Jesus Christ one iota. But Jesus did not preach easy-believism. Our complete discipleship is required. We also must endure to the end. (Mark 13:13)
Your Romans scripture on Abraham is quoting from James. He clarifies this in James 2: 21, 22, “Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?”
Note that the apostle Paul is the only person who seemingly speaks in terms of salvation being of grace and not of works. Paul was speaking the best he could to a specific people who had a specific problem (the works of "the law"). Here is some of what Peter had to say about the writings of Paul as they relate to salvation: “And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.” (2 Pet 3:15-16)
Let’s not “wrest” the scriptures as they did, to our “own destruction”.
Notice that Peter says that Paul wrote, “according to the wisdom given unto him.” According to this scripture, some followers of Jesus at the time of Peter (who basically became known as the Gnostics) were misunderstanding and twisting Paul’s writings on salvation, so much so that they were forfeiting that very salvation. In other words, it could be surmised that they wanted to be saved IN their sins, not FROM their sins (Matt 1:21). It is sad that so many are attracted to this same kind of easy believism, and openly sin in their false belief that they will be saved anyway.
James 2: 14-14,17-- "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone."

      Hey phredde533!
You’re right in saying that “no one is going to heaven by accident”, this much is true, but no one is going to heaven based on his own “effort” or merit, “for it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:4-9) Neither you nor I can boast of our “effort” because our true “effort” is one of brokenness and admission of His grace and needing a savior who would spill His blood to seal the covenant between God and man, yes?
I believe a more accurate statement is “the blood of Jesus does not make *sanctification* automatic”, not “salvation”. Both Hebrews 12 and Titus 2:11-14 show us that the removal of sinful behavior is a teaching process and a heart-change process, so sanctification is not automatic, but salvation is “automatic” if there is a true repentance of sins and acknowledging that Jesus is the resurrected Lord (Romans 3:24-29 and 10:9, Matthew 26:28, Hebrews 10:19 (We can enter His presence not because of our “effort”, but solely because of His blood), 1 John 1:9).
If the “effort” you are referring to is anything other than true repentance of sins and confession of His Lordship, then you are advocating for a works-based faith, where we have to continually retain the covenant by our own strength, which, for us fallen creatures, is undependable and impossible. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 26 that His blood “seals the covenant between God and his people”; He is the arbiter of the covenant by the blood of the lamb, and He sets the terms for what satisfies entrance into His presence.
Who did Jesus say was justified in the parable of the repentant tax collector and the pharisee? The tax collector’s “effort” was repentance, not a list of sacraments he had to fulfill to reinforce the idea that his works would grant him heaven (Luke 18:9-14). Do you know that elevating the effort/righteousness of man to be comparable in effecting salvation is simultaneously minimizing the sole power of the blood to save? Does Jesus’ blood need man’s supplementation to provide guaranteed salvation to you and me?

That's a false premise. Jesus told us in Matthew 7:21 that those who do the Will of the Father are the ones who will go to heaven. What is the most important will of the Father? 1 John 3:23 tells us explicitly that it is the will of the Father that we believe in Christ. Notice we are commanded to believe in Christ.
      1 John 3:23
And this is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.
      Acts 4:12
And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved.
Those who obey this command are called Christians. God desires that every man and woman believe in Jesus Christ, but not everyone will obey. Only by believing in Jesus Christ will any person obey this command and go to heaven. Atheists, Muslims, Hindus and everyone does not believe in Christ Jesus and it's not enough to say you believe in HIm, rather it's WHAT you believe about Him. If you believe that He needs the help of your church, His mother, the saints, sacraments, your obedience to the law, baptism, the eucharist, and so on to save you, you are not putting your faith in His ability to save us through his once-for-all sacrifice. If you believe that you can lose your salvation, then you don't believe in Christ because He said, "whoever believes in Him (Christ) shall NOT perish, but have ETERNAL LIFE."
