i just saw a music creative and wondered what they do, because it sounded like something I would enjoy. Led me to your video. I guess there is not just one path to do this. I have done video/film directing. Sounds similar, but with music content.
Would you say the graphic designers get to make the decisions on how the album covers will look, or the CD decides that, the graphic designer just has the layout and software knowledge to create the CD's idea?
Hi! I just found your channel and found it full of such great information. I'm in my last year at university studying production design and would really love to get into a career path as a creative director. I was wondering if you had any tips or videos about where to start? Thank you!! x
Thanks for your comment! I get this question a lot so I may well do a video on it 😊 To start I would figure out who you want to serve and the types of projects you want to take on ✌️
This video is amazing! That's the info I was looking for. Thank you so much, but I just have a question: do I need any degree from university if I wanna be a CD and work with music artists/labels. If yes, what are they?
no, it’s more about networking, having a precise design eye and the ability to manage a team. although many would have come from a specific creative background, whether that’s graphics, fashion styling, lighting design, production design or even choreography 😊 it’s important to gain those skills and experiences first in order to work ya way up 🤓
Do you consult or look over a bands current work and offer any insight into what holes they might patch up in their game? I'm the creative, production, band, song writer, social media, and everything else. So it's hard to know which hats one isn't doing as well wearing, and advice could be great. Unfortunately budget is also an issue. Love to hear more of your great advice. :)
Hey :) Fair play to you, it's a lot of hats! I do! I've been creating custom packages for each artist I work with as every one is so unique and has different needs/preferences but I can definitely offer a single consultation to suggest improvements. If you want to drop me an email on effisummerscreative@gmail.com with links to your socials, music and website and then we can go from there :)
Hi, I want to be a creative director and my end goal is to be either a label owner or executive director. However, I have a bit of a dilemma. I've applied to Uni for marketing and design and just marketing. For the marketing and design course, the university is really good and so is the course but I feel the environment will hinder me as a creative individual because it's in the middle of nowhere. But for the marketing course, the uni is also good but it's in a city but the course has no element of design. What advice would you give me as a creative director?
The most important factor is that you learn some basic (at least) elements of design. That’s what will set you apart as a creative, from other marketing individuals. I wouldn’t worry too much about the location as you can still network online and it’s only on a short term basis but if being in a city is important to you then look for somewhere that ticks all the boxes 😊❤️ good luck!
