Arthur Young and His Hatchett Swingtette feat. Stéphane Grappelli and Beryl Davis
*Arthur* Wilson Colthard *Young* (November 7, 1904 in Edinburgh - July 25, 1965 in Sydney) was a British jazz musician (piano, bandleader) and songwriter.
Young first played with Jack Hylton and then belonged to the quartet The Four Bright Sparks with Len Fillis, Van Phillips, and Rudy Starita in the early 1930s. From 1932 he also acted in or composed for a number of British music films such as Radio Parade of 1935. In 1937 he played in a duo with Reginald Foresythe and from mid-1939 with his band Hatchett's Swingtette at Hatchett's Restaurant in London's West End. Members included guitarists Jack Llewellyn and Noel "Chappie" d'Amato, Bill Shakespear (trumpet), Dennis Moonan (clarinet, tenor sax and viola), Frank Baron as second pianist, George Senior (upright bass), Tony Spurgin (drums) and singer Beryl Davis. Young invited Stéphane Grappelli to play in his band and record together.
Four titles were created for Decca Records in December, such as _Scatter Brain, Ting-a-Ling_ and _Alexander's Ragtime Band._ In September 1940, Young was injured in an air raid. 22 tracks from the Swingtette recordings were released on the 1992 album Hatchett's Swingtette on Pavilion Records. For Bob Crosby's Bob Cats he composed _Shakespeare in Swing_ (Decca Records, 1941). After zjr war, he also toured Germany. As a pianist he was also involved in the recordings of Mantovani's _Concerto in Jazz_ (1948) and other titles such as _Nature Boy._
In his later years Young lived in Australia, where he worked for radio and television since 1950.
*Beryl Davis* (16 March 1924 - 28 October 2011) was a vocalist who sang with British and American big bands, as well as being an occasional featured vocalist at a very young age with the Quintette du Hot Club de France between 1936 and 1939. She was still performing in her 80s, into the 2000s, possibly the last surviving and performing singer of the generation of popular entertainers from the 1930s and wartime years.
Davis was born in Plymouth, England, to Harry Lomax Davis and Queenie Davis. Her younger sister is Lisa Davis Waltz, a teen actress in the 1950s and 1960s and later, the voice of Anita in Disney's _101 Dalmatians._
Aged eight, Davis began to sing for the Oscar Rabin Band, co-led by her father and saxophonist Oscar Rabin, eventually turning professional and singing with, among others, Rabin, Geraldo, and the Skyrockets Dance Orchestra. From the age of 12, accompanied by a chaperone, she also performed and recorded with Django Reinhardt in Paris and on several European tours, and was the featured singer with the Quintette du Hot Club de France during their tour of the U.K. in July-August 1939, including a performance with the Quintette for BBC Television (broadcast in August 1939), of which, unfortunately, no copy appears to survive. She became popular singing for British and Allied troops during World War II, during which time Glenn Miller discovered her in London, and she sang for the Army Air Force Orchestra. After the war, she moved to Los Angeles with her father's big band, and appeared on Your Hit Parade with Frank Sinatra for a year.
She was part of the Four Girls singing group with Jane Russell, Rhonda Fleming, Della Russell, and Connie Haines. They recorded sixteen singles, and albums which became best sellers. Davis also appeared both in variety shows and films.
Beryl Davis was married to William Mann Moore (aka Peter Potter), disc jockey and host of the 1950s Emmy Winning television show, Jukebox Jury. They had three children, William Bell, Merry Bell, and Melinda Beryl. The marriage ended in divorce.[citation needed]
In 1996, a Golden Palm Star on the Palm Springs, California, Palm Springs Walk of Stars was dedicated to her. Still performing into her 80s, she was featured at several concerts/festivals in the mid-2000s with the backing of the guitarist John Jorgenson and his band, who featured her vocals on the track _"Don't Worry 'Bout Me"_ on his 2007 CD _Ultraspontane,_ reprising her original recording with Django Reinhardt from almost 70 years earlier.
On 28 October 2011, Davis died in Los Angeles from complications of Alzheimer's disease, at age 87.
*Bluebirds in the Moonlight (Silly Idea)* [Ralph Rainger (music) & Leo Robin (words)] from the 1941 animated movie "Gulliver's Travels": Max Fleischer's 1939 classic _Gulliver's Travels_ is based on the famous 1726 novel by Jonathan Swift. The film is set in 1699 on the fictional island of Lilliput. The film was released in 1939, and the popularity of the film kept in rotation at movie theaters into the 1960's. The film's copyright wasn't renewed, and the film ended up falling into the public domain. Because of this, many home video releases were created in poor quality because the original negatives were not available for those inferior versions. More recently, there have been releases that feature restored versions that were made from original negatives and prints.
The song was recorded by Mildred Bailey & Benny Goodman, Alice Babs, Fud Candrix, Gene Krupa, Glenn Miller & Marion Hutton, Blue Barron, Sammy Kaye, Guy Lombardo, Dick Jurgens, Johnny Messner, Sam Browne, Jack White, Dick Freeman, Frankie Masters
*Stéphane Grappelli:* Thre greatest jazz violinist of 'em all needs no introduction.

Acetate coating over an aluminium disc. This one sounds very good where it's not peeling away, and very odd it is centre start. She sounds familiar, very good singer.
