"It is a story about a man struggling with his own homosexuality. You got Maverick, he's on the edge, man. He's right on the fuckin line. Then you got Ice Man and all his crew. THEY'RE GAY. They represent the GAY MAN"
    - Quentin Tarantino

full quote - “It is a story about a man’s struggle with his own homosexuality,” he says in the film. “You’ve got Maverick, all right? He’s on the edge, man…And you’ve got Iceman, and all his crew. They’re gay, they represent the gay man, all right? And they’re saying, go, go the gay way, go the gay way. He could go both ways. Kelly McGillis (Maverick’s love interest Charlie Blackwood), she’s heterosexuality. She’s saying: no, no, no, no, no, no, go the normal way, play by the rules, go the normal way. They’re saying no, go the gay way, be the gay way, go for the gay way, all right? That is what’s going on throughout that whole movie.”

This is one of the first watch alongs where I actually had access to the OG Film and I had fun with this. I think my love for nerdy film buff RUclipsrs / old plane otaku is the only reason why I even own this cause jeez that script... That everything haha

I feel this way about a lot of media. I actually own this film as well. But I wouldn't say I bought it out of love it was just a random pickup I got for cheap but I'm glad I had it, so I could participate in this.
In terms of things I know the faults of yet love, I feel that way about lots of old, quite bad 8 and 16bit games.

I dispise watch alongs on twitch but unlike most people who just sit there with their mouths open like they just got a concussion, adum is being entertaining with or without the movie, I really don't know what's so hard about talking through media on twitch but I'm glad adum appreciates his audience, sorry for the disoriented rant

TWD spinoff "Fear the Walking Dead" is actually fun and fresh for its first seasons, IMO. Worth the watch.
    Edit:
FWIW. Seen worse, regarding Top Gun 2. It wasn't at least pissing on the original, compared to a sequels we've been getting these last two decades.
Some good stuff, in my opinion nobody asked for:
+ I did love the enemy 5th Gen plane's "sky ballet" as it dodged the missiles.
+ I loved the wideshot we got as the F18s were dodging the "Danger Zone" SAMs. Normally, we'd get only "cockpit, plane, cockpit" sort of shots - but here, we got one that actually showed the chaos
+ I loved the Iceman scene, FWIW. We actually got a bit less "tell" as hec couldn't speak much. The movie could've started here and give us a bit of "dying legacy of pilots -feels" or something.
    - Yes, the movie was fucking slow. I get the build-ups and all. Wish we had more Iceman. More "Why we fly". More NERDY TECH STUFF ON F18 - WHAT MAKES 5th GEN SO DANGEROUS, etc etc. I could go on.
    - We needed a bit more Mav and his psyche about the flying. We were somewhat getting it, but it wasn't enough to justify his journey. I liked Iceman's "Time to let go", we need Mav taking some of that into practice somehow.
Anyways. Thought I'd toss that in.

I am sure there was something good in that mix? I've seen several of these, and i've heard of most.

@@zogwort1522 Yes! for sure. Also Great Mouse Detective, and Castle in the Sky are great examples of lesser known gems. I assume they were overlooked because Miyazaki was not a household name yet, and because Disney’s other 80s movies are more known respectively
Also When The Wind Blows, Ai City, Dirty Pair the movie,

Always cool to see fellow people of taste. And yeah, I find Dirty Pair Project Eden is quite underrated, it’s amazingly animated, and considering I’ve started reviewing anime stuff on my channel, I really should cover it sometime

Your review of the first 2 seasons of walking dead were how i think I found this channel, and it was great! I'd love if you did the third and fourth season, I don't want to watch anything beyond the first season. I'd love a chance to absorb more of the story besides having just read the timeline. I think some where around that season 4 or 5 the show basically ends, and the story drags on like the undead monster it is.

Watched this along with you for the first time live... was not expecting it to be so bad LOL
With that said, I may go see Maverick in IMAX if it's not as bad as this was, for the spectacle (only if Maverick has more action than this did lol) I do not care whatsoever about a continuation of the "story"

I got to see _Top Gun_ in Dolby Atmos early last summer. (First time ever seeing it from start to finish.) Even with the iconic images and soundtrack, the story made for one weird-as-fuck, flimsy blockbuster.

It's almost funny how utterly devoid of politics this movie is. it's so hard to tell what these people are actually DOING in these fighter jets because it seems like all they do is shoot down other fighter jets.
