Take Cait instead and watch what a breeze laning phase is. A good Lux sup will pressure your enemy adc to keep them from cs'ing early game and late game damage can be a godsend. You can't really compare in game visual effects to the actual lore itself- to most champions it works, but to some it's just exaggerated to make them look more flashy. And talking about Swain's quote to garen, I think it's revealed in Sylas' bio that petricite doesn't actually repel magic, rather it absorbs it. Which is why Swain commented about how they are ignorant of the very magic they carry to battle (which is stored in their petricite based armors or stuff)

The lore is actually wrong. Garen knows full well she has magic. Fairly certain most of Demacia's hierarchy does, because Garen does. There's a lore short story of Garen going to visit a witch in a cave to save one of this comrades. The witch steals memories, so in return for the soldier's life, Garen said she would get to have ONE bad memory from him. The witch took out every single bad memory of Lux that Garen had from their childhood, this included when Lux accidentally blasted Garen as kids with a light spell when she was afraid/startled/hurt while they ewre playing. When the witch was done, Garen picked up his comrade and started to leave, and suddenly dropped his comrade, turned and immediately gored the witch with his greatsword. When the witch asked "How did you know?" Garen replied with "I felt a great burden lifted from my shoulders...give them back." And the witch gave all the buried supressed memories of Lux's magic use and the fear Garen had felt towards his sisters for years, back to him.
Little known but incredibly useful tip for Lux, your E pops Malzahar's barrier WITHOUT POPPING IT. So you just let it sit under him, the slow consumes his shield, then you pop it and he still takes the damage. Makes Lux a pretty neat counterpick to Malz. Also, build Liandry's, that shit is busted, your poke HURTS. One more little tip, your passive is actually insane early. I mean really early. You can bully basically anyone not named Orianna or Syndra at level 1 and 2 by abusing passive damage. Since your E applies passive and your auto attack consumes it, that's three sources of damage, and thus a thunderlord's proc. If you take anything other than thunderlord's I will find you and kick your ass.
I actually prefer a more survivability-oriented Lux mastery and summoner spell build - I run Windspeaker's and Barrier to enhance her shields a little bit for both myself and my team. I miss out on a little bit of damage, yes, but it keeps me alive more often than not.
What about Braum? So you want to main Braum, well Do you like doors? Do you like protecting the weak? Do you like hard Crowd Control with your fists? And do you like to be the best person in the world? Then Braum, the Heart of Freiljord, is the champ for you.
I remember watching this when I was just getting into League. I wanted to play Lux because LilyPichu played (not sure nowadays) her a lot. I was like, "Ok. I won't be a Lux support player. I can play mid." Lmaoooo guess what boyos? I main Lux support and I have no regrets. I get extreme satisfaction finishing a kill with a snipe when my ADC is too much of a pussy to do it.

UPDATE BELOW AFTER ORIGINAL (Mostly about new runes, a lot of the first part of this comment should still be applicable to the current season) Okay this is really just my experience from playing a huge amount of Lux and my own thoughts (If you dont want to hear them just dont read them): When in laning phase, spamming E is not really the best idea. A big problem with Lux (and something people who start playing a lot of her notice) is that her mana pool runs dry real quick real fast. (WHICH MEANS THE ENEMY LANER CAN TRADE BETTER THAN YOU WITH YOUR ABILITIES DOWN OR MANA LOW AND WHEN YOUR MANA IS LOW IT MEANS YOU CANT Q AND THAT MEANS GANKS END IN DEATH) The E mana cost is a costing but definitely worth spell, so I advise only using it when minions are low and/or when the enemy is near those minions so you can farm while damaging the enemy laner. With practice, timing (and *precision* ofc), the W can help you win a lot of trades because when you press it just in time it can reduce quit a bit of damage (and also make you feel like a badass). Do not always try to auto the enemy laner when you hit them with a Q if they are stronger. If you're feeling confident (or know what you're doing), waltz up to em and AA-E-AA but make sure you know how to W properly so the damage they do back makes them regret not banning lux. ^If it's a melee champion btw it's way easier to just auto. Just a thing: When csing and there are say three relatively low minions and it's still early in the game, choose your Q over your E to get them (saves mana and makes you feel cooler), Q two of the minions and immediately auto the other. Late game Lux isn't always trash, she can fall off late but she can also be so strong she can chunk tanks to quarter health while killing squishies in teamfights with ease. Stealing barons/drakes as Lux are one of the best things you will ever experience, trust me. Hit them with the 'thanks for the leash' when you do steal one (tilting is best strat). The masteries part I can only say that it depends on your play style, I take freshblood because I do poke a lot in lane and ohgods it's much better with the extra dmg when you pop your passive and fresh blood on them. I take intelligence over precision because CDR is overpowered (13 second ulti when you kill the person) and the extra CDR in lane is nice. Runes vary and depend on the person, but I do prefer scaling health. Magic pen always and more CDR cause CDR is best. I rarely take anything other than flash and barrier on Lux. Here's a hint: NEVER TAKE IGNITE ON LUX. Ignite on Lux = you have to get CLOSE enough to use it on the person, and it might be really good in early when you're trading and manage to get a kill with it, but after a certain point when everybody else is stronger and Lux is still squishy (because that's how she is and I love her), you never really get a chance to ever use ignite again. Also by that point your combo does enough to one shot most people (if you've been playing right and getting fed and ahead). I prefer Barrier pretty much every game if not exhaust (cause zed and fizz and most champions I hate), it's saved my life so many times, in the video Bricky uses ghost, and that's not a bad summoner it just depends how you play. I've tried ghost lux before and it never really worked out between ghost and I. Nothing against the advised build (except lich bane tbh because same thing as ignite you rarely really get to auto your team does that after you get everybody super low) Always remember this: When you decide to main Lux, you must accept the fact that you will lose almost every matchup because you're so squishy and Lux really isn't one of the best midlaners right now. Xerath beats her easily, Zed beats her (not early laning, that's when he's the funniest to beat up), Yasuo is such a pain if they know what they're doing, Vlad will hurt you till you want to uninstall, the list goes on and on. But here is one thing I can assure you when you decide to main Lux: She. Is. So. FUN!!!! P.S I main Lux, but I play Sona almost just as much. I also love Leblanc... And Karma.... BUT THE POINT IS THAT I PLAY LUX THE MOST AND I GOT NEARLY 150k WITHIN ONLY TWO MONTHS SINCE THE FIRST TIME I DECIDED TO PLAY HER OKAY... I just love her, let me love her... *Stop hating on my main* UPDATE: New runes, new meta So far, aery and comet is really strong when taken on Lux for the sorcery chain. Electrocute is decent, but your E-AA doesn't count anymore because they want three SEPERATE spells/attacks. Phase is out of the question because it's pretty sucky on any champion at the moment other than Ryze. Comet is good because if you Q a champion, the comet will be bound to hit, and your E slows them enough that you should be able to land the comet if they get stuck in a minion wave. Ultimate Hat vs Mana Flow vs Nullifying Orb, Nullifying Orb's potential is completely blocked out when compared to how useful Mana Flow can be on such a mana hungry champion. Ulti hat is quite decent on Lux, though if you always spam it you're not allowed the always confirmed kill. It really depends on your playstyle and how fed you think you will be in lategame to even consider taking ulti hat. I go with mana flow band to spam more abilities and to be able to stay in lane without needing to back because I'm so defenseless against ganks with my Q. Celerity vs Transcendence vs Absolute Focus: Celerity is quite useless because Lux is one of the most immobile champions in the game, so it's a no-go. But Transcendence might be decent at first, though Lux does not build much cdr beyond a morell. Absolute Focus is also quite decent because Lux is meant to be in the backline and to do a lot of damage, if you manage to have somebody in the front line tank all of the damage so you're above 70% health, you will be able to do way more damage and will be more useful to the team. Scorch vs Water Walking vs Gathering Storm: All three of these abilities can be decent on Lux, and once again depends on your playstyle and how you think the game will go. Scorch is for perhaps if you're play really safe so that you can do more damage when you are able to hit an ability or to poke. Water walking is good if you enjoy roaming, and gathering storm for extra damage in mid-late game. Domination Route vs Inspiration: Inspiration can be quite useful, but personally, as an aggressive kind of Lux main, I tend to go Domination because of how much more useful I consider cheap shot and ghost poro/eyeball collection is to my playstyle. You can still go inspiration if perhaps you're a support or if you want the more creative style of gameplay rather than pure damage. This is only what I've found to be useful on Lux so far, but we'll see if the definite changes to the runes will occur or not soon and how that will affect our dear bb Lux.
If you think this is actually me telling people what to do (it really isnt), just know that this is actually just a bunch of tips and I don't actually want to bash on any other Lux players' thoughts o/ bai
I started playing league in preseason 6 . Mained lux " i played her in my first game ever cuz she is a free champion for whose below level 3 i think "new accounts") I still main her . And i climbed with her to plat in my first ranked year ( with less than 50 ranked games . Didnt play alot of lux games but my winrate with her in ranked is 100% with average 11KDA .). I agree with you in every single point and would add the lichbane thingie If u r going into flash ghost . I'd agree with the lichbane since u can reach the target in less than 1 second to finish him off with AA after doing ur full combo(if timed right u can reach the target while he's still rooted) Anything besides that will be risky . U may consider buying zhonyas and some survival items if they have a great frontliners (zed fizz kayn..etc). Maybe luxs worst nightmare is zhonyas and invinsbility.. since it destroys ur damage outcome for the rest of the teamfight(ultimate 70% Cd refund also) .. so imo i'd rather keep spamming Q E until they use that spell that saves their life .. ur root isnt a bad thing in teamfights so ur team with get advantage of it even without ur ult Just a little more tip that triggers me when i see lux players Ur E is an ammmmazing slow! I'd compare it to sejuani ultimates slow or even nasus slow .. its rly a hard slow .. when someone is chasing u ( xin zhao . Yi or anyshit ) Just cast ur e and keeeep it up until they are about to leave it so u get the slow + the damage .. not insta damage only xD it even start timing the cd when u cast it so u can escape from danger :c
A L i stole a dragon with her and killed someone simultaneously with the ult and i can agree, it felt amazing- may i ask what you usually build on her? in recent games where i got some kills early, i went morellos, ludens, and then rabadons, and was really fed at the end and it worked out well! however, i don't really know what to build when behind, or when the enemy laner just does too much damage. i feel like, one MR item doesn't really cut it, and i lose so much damage if i build defensively, i don't know. i'd appreciate your help! also, may i ask what your elo is? i mostly mained lux for a while and i'm unranked, so you could probably help as you have a lot more mastery points! i have scaling health yellows as well, and i think i'll consider the cooldown mastery, since early into the game, it really sucks not having your spells up for a long time because you'll be super vulnerable. and i agree with the e, i like to poke with it but it costs so much mana, so you do have to be cautious- did i talk to much? haha, i'd appreciate your answer!

As a OTP Lux main i have to add a few things: Q - Second target hit by the skill is only snared for 1.5s not the full 2s also if the second snare of the skillshot travels further then the original range but it will only do that if it hit a target already. So if you stand behind a minion it will snare you in a longer distance than if its only you that got hit. Q - There is a flash cast trick with this spell that will look like you casted from your original position but it will actually travel from the position you flashed to. (You have to do it fast tho :D) E - This skill can register the second cast of it ( popping it for the damage ) while still in motion ( flying toward the target area) so if you aim well your opponent has no time to get out of the damage because it wil instanly pop on reaching the target you aimed for. R - Her ultimate can be redirected to miss with a voli/singed fling in the middle of the 1s channel. But apart from those no stun/disable that is casted the same time will stop the ult animation basically meaning if you get soraka silenced or malza ulted the same second you cast the ult it will still go off while you standing in the disable. The only disable that seems to completely stop it is the charm. The ult wont go off and it will be put on cooldown.
Did you know that if you start her Q and flash while it's Channeling then flash in any direction, The Q will still go in the direction of where your cursor was when you first started channeling. Hard to master but a very useful skill.
Taking the extra 5% CDR in masteries and scaling CDR in runes so that you can hit 40(45)% CDR with only Morello's and Zhonya's is typically a good idea, since without max CDR Lux has painfully long cooldowns on her spells.

If you're feeling confident (or know what you're doing), waltz up to em and AA-E-AA but make sure you know how to W properly so the damage they do back makes them regret not banning lux.
^If it's a melee champion btw it's way easier to just auto.
Just a thing:
When csing and there are say three relatively low minions and it's still early in the game, choose your Q over your E to get them (saves mana and makes you feel cooler), Q two of the minions and immediately auto the other.
Late game Lux isn't always trash, she can fall off late but she can also be so strong she can chunk tanks to quarter health while killing squishies in teamfights with ease.
Stealing barons/drakes as Lux are one of the best things you will ever experience, trust me. Hit them with the 'thanks for the leash' when you do steal one (tilting is best strat).
The masteries part I can only say that it depends on your play style, I take freshblood because I do poke a lot in lane and ohgods it's much better with the extra dmg when you pop your passive and fresh blood on them. I take intelligence over precision because CDR is overpowered (13 second ulti when you kill the person) and the extra CDR in lane is nice.
Runes vary and depend on the person, but I do prefer scaling health. Magic pen always and more CDR cause CDR is best.
I rarely take anything other than flash and barrier on Lux. Here's a hint: NEVER TAKE IGNITE ON LUX.
Ignite on Lux = you have to get CLOSE enough to use it on the person, and it might be really good in early when you're trading and manage to get a kill with it, but after a certain point when everybody else is stronger and Lux is still squishy (because that's how she is and I love her), you never really get a chance to ever use ignite again. Also by that point your combo does enough to one shot most people (if you've been playing right and getting fed and ahead).
I prefer Barrier pretty much every game if not exhaust (cause zed and fizz and most champions I hate), it's saved my life so many times, in the video Bricky uses ghost, and that's not a bad summoner it just depends how you play. I've tried ghost lux before and it never really worked out between ghost and I.
Nothing against the advised build (except lich bane tbh because same thing as ignite you rarely really get to auto your team does that after you get everybody super low)
Always remember this: When you decide to main Lux, you must accept the fact that you will lose almost every matchup because you're so squishy and Lux really isn't one of the best midlaners right now. Xerath beats her easily, Zed beats her (not early laning, that's when he's the funniest to beat up), Yasuo is such a pain if they know what they're doing, Vlad will hurt you till you want to uninstall, the list goes on and on.
But here is one thing I can assure you when you decide to main Lux:

UPDATE: New runes, new meta
So far, aery and comet is really strong when taken on Lux for the sorcery chain. Electrocute is decent, but your E-AA doesn't count anymore because they want three SEPERATE spells/attacks. Phase is out of the question because it's pretty sucky on any champion at the moment other than Ryze. Comet is good because if you Q a champion, the comet will be bound to hit, and your E slows them enough that you should be able to land the comet if they get stuck in a minion wave.
Ultimate Hat vs Mana Flow vs Nullifying Orb, Nullifying Orb's potential is completely blocked out when compared to how useful Mana Flow can be on such a mana hungry champion. Ulti hat is quite decent on Lux, though if you always spam it you're not allowed the always confirmed kill. It really depends on your playstyle and how fed you think you will be in lategame to even consider taking ulti hat. I go with mana flow band to spam more abilities and to be able to stay in lane without needing to back because I'm so defenseless against ganks with my Q.
Celerity vs Transcendence vs Absolute Focus: Celerity is quite useless because Lux is one of the most immobile champions in the game, so it's a no-go. But Transcendence might be decent at first, though Lux does not build much cdr beyond a morell. Absolute Focus is also quite decent because Lux is meant to be in the backline and to do a lot of damage, if you manage to have somebody in the front line tank all of the damage so you're above 70% health, you will be able to do way more damage and will be more useful to the team.
Scorch vs Water Walking vs Gathering Storm: All three of these abilities can be decent on Lux, and once again depends on your playstyle and how you think the game will go. Scorch is for perhaps if you're play really safe so that you can do more damage when you are able to hit an ability or to poke. Water walking is good if you enjoy roaming, and gathering storm for extra damage in mid-late game.
Domination Route vs Inspiration:
Inspiration can be quite useful, but personally, as an aggressive kind of Lux main, I tend to go Domination because of how much more useful I consider cheap shot and ghost poro/eyeball collection is to my playstyle. You can still go inspiration if perhaps you're a support or if you want the more creative style of gameplay rather than pure damage.
This is only what I've found to be useful on Lux so far, but we'll see if the definite changes to the runes will occur or not soon and how that will affect our dear bb Lux.
If you think this is actually me telling people what to do (it really isnt), just know that this is actually just a bunch of tips and I don't actually want to bash on any other Lux players' thoughts o/ bai

I still main her . And i climbed with her to plat in my first ranked year ( with less than 50 ranked games . Didnt play alot of lux games but my winrate with her in ranked is 100% with average 11KDA .).

If u r going into flash ghost . I'd agree with the lichbane since u can reach the target in less than 1 second to finish him off with AA after doing ur full combo(if timed right u can reach the target while he's still rooted)
Anything besides that will be risky . U may consider buying zhonyas and some survival items if they have a great frontliners (zed fizz kayn..etc).
Maybe luxs worst nightmare is zhonyas and invinsbility.. since it destroys ur damage outcome for the rest of the teamfight(ultimate 70% Cd refund also) .. so imo i'd rather keep spamming Q E until they use that spell that saves their life .. ur root isnt a bad thing in teamfights so ur team with get advantage of it even without ur ult

Ur E is an ammmmazing slow! I'd compare it to sejuani ultimates slow or even nasus slow .. its rly a hard slow .. when someone is chasing u ( xin zhao . Yi or anyshit )
Just cast ur e and keeeep it up until they are about to leave it so u get the slow + the damage .. not insta damage only xD it even start timing the cd when u cast it so u can escape from danger :c
A L i stole a dragon with her and killed someone simultaneously with the ult and i can agree, it felt amazing- may i ask what you usually build on her? in recent games where i got some kills early, i went morellos, ludens, and then rabadons, and was really fed at the end and it worked out well! however, i don't really know what to build when behind, or when the enemy laner just does too much damage. i feel like, one MR item doesn't really cut it, and i lose so much damage if i build defensively, i don't know. i'd appreciate your help! also, may i ask what your elo is? i mostly mained lux for a while and i'm unranked, so you could probably help as you have a lot more mastery points! i have scaling health yellows as well, and i think i'll consider the cooldown mastery, since early into the game, it really sucks not having your spells up for a long time because you'll be super vulnerable. and i agree with the e, i like to poke with it but it costs so much mana, so you do have to be cautious- did i talk to much? haha, i'd appreciate your answer!

As a OTP Lux main i have to add a few things:
Q - Second target hit by the skill is only snared for 1.5s not the full 2s also if the second snare of the skillshot travels further then the original range but it will only do that if it hit a target already. So if you stand behind a minion it will snare you in a longer distance than if its only you that got hit.
Q - There is a flash cast trick with this spell that will look like you casted from your original position but it will actually travel from the position you flashed to. (You have to do it fast tho :D)
E - This skill can register the second cast of it ( popping it for the damage ) while still in motion ( flying toward the target area) so if you aim well your opponent has no time to get out of the damage because it wil instanly pop on reaching the target you aimed for.
R - Her ultimate can be redirected to miss with a voli/singed fling in the middle of the 1s channel. But apart from those no stun/disable that is casted the same time will stop the ult animation basically meaning if you get soraka silenced or malza ulted the same second you cast the ult it will still go off while you standing in the disable. The only disable that seems to completely stop it is the charm. The ult wont go off and it will be put on cooldown.

Did you know that if you start her Q and flash while it's Channeling then flash in any direction, The Q will still go in the direction of where your cursor was when you first started channeling. Hard to master but a very useful skill.
Taking the extra 5% CDR in masteries and scaling CDR in runes so that you can hit 40(45)% CDR with only Morello's and Zhonya's is typically a good idea, since without max CDR Lux has painfully long cooldowns on her spells.
