- Utility crews have begun removing part of the bridge and repaving the roadway near Exit 15 where the fiery crash happened. The aim is to reopen all six lanes of traffic on I-95 by Monday, but there's been no confirmation on whether that will happen.

Can I just go ahead and admire the CAT 390f they brought out to help clear the overpass?
What a monster!
2024 is going to be a bad year for bridges and overpasses.
Every year is
Unfortunately true!!
They are ALL overdue for repairs or replacement…
The original bridge at that location was a tad lower than most and always getting hit by flatbeds with machinery on them. My dad was a Captain in the Fire Station at that bridge. Now this? That bridge is cursed
@@yankee2yankee216 For sure, poor design. There is a club (St Ann's) where you can look and see the rust ,the don't look safe.
First 95 in Philadelphia now 95 in Norwalk. Hmmm
I'm keeping track. It's sickening. Sadly most won't get it and will just be busy watching American idol looking at the pretty lights.
How many bridges are going to be sabotaged before someone figures this out
They won’t till it’s to late …
Yeah I’m sure the people involved in the crash had this all planned out smh
The height was not a problem,a dumb ass cut the semi off and then collide with the truck and created the accident
Dumb @ss, or operative? Seems awfully coincidental. And why nothing on the driver(s) and their condition(s)?
a dumbass in a 4 wheeler cut the truck off
Either way, a two door car taking out a hazmat driver? Maybe a pile up.
@@antonmoric1469 And you, when were you released from the hospital?
@@antonmoric1469 that info came out 2 days ago..... no major injuries.
Traffic 🚦 is still terrible
Thanks for the warning! Looks like I’m staying home tomorrow.
Another Bridge ? Did it get hit by a Cargo ship. ?
And it only took 25 years to renovate i-95 from Greenwich to New Haven !
They are quick.. Trying to clean up before Monday
They already opened one side of the freeway. Need to wait for the rain to stop to finish the other side. Great job, all the work crews. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Whoever caused the accident better have good insurance, because a overpass is going to cost in the 10's of millions of dollars, looks like the Allstate Mayhem guy was behind the wheel again
or a race card
That was fast clean up.
fast
@@SSNESS thanks
Why did the truck have to catch fire under the bridge, why did it stop there? Who was driving it?
@@My22lbAbby there is no shoulder in that area.
no mention of how bad traffic is 25 miles away on 684, 84, 287, etc. On Saturday we were hard pressed to drive through Newtown because everyone was cutting over to rt 25 and such to head toward Bridgeport and New Haven.
CT is like that... it's so hard to get around anyway, let alone when they shut / detour 95
How convenient, tanker under a bridge. I’m sure it was just another freak accident😒
Test run, everyone is watching
My hometown!❤️
WOW This happened in Philly last year on 95
Anyone keeping track? You know whats up. Some will never see what's really happening.
I-95 from New York to New Haven has been a disaster from its very beginning. One of the engineers who designed the original I-95/I 91 connection in New Haven was killed in a crash there shortly after it's opening.
I was one of first on the scene one early morning at the I-95/25/8 connection in Bridgeport when a tanker went down the embankment and burst into flames. . A state trooper and I ran down the embankment and stood in horror as we heard the screams of the driver burning to death. No way could we reach him.
The signage on I-95 from NY State line designated it as East and West until a 6th grader wrote a letter to the Editor mentioning that it was actually a North South Highway.
But the real scandal was when George W. Bush demanded that the highway markers outside of New Haven stating that it was his birth place be removed. They were.
They need to build yet another highway, it's always a nightmare no matter which way you go
@@americanbeauty4015 They need to build better and faster mass transit. One bus can take the place of 30 or 40 cars. The New Haven Commuter RR to NYC now carries about 65,000 persons into NYC that's at least 30,000 cars. Average time 60 minutes from New Haven. Average time by car 2 to 3 hours.
fast action from the state of CT, and it needs to be.
I feel this is happening much to offen, with bridges. Philly, Maryland, now Connecticut.
One side open early Saturday evening
Good reporting, and flat-out amazing that they took the overpass down in a matter of hours. Why no mention here or elsewhere though on the drivers involved? In the five news pieces that I have watched on this event, there has been no mention at all of the condition of the drivers involved. Did they live? Did they die? Who were they? And why no mention of them?

@@user-ll2je4kc4f: Trump said he would get passed a bill to replace bridges and other infrastructure.
He didn't !!!
Only desperate people plan to cause accidents for insurance money or to inflict pain and death to others like the 9/11
airplane hijackers.
Accident probably was caused by an aggressive driver who probably shouldn't be driving !!!
I have been a member of a fire department, and I am a trained volunteer first responder.
What volunteering have you done ??
I wondered about that too. So odd to not show any sympathy for the dead or injured, and their families.

You can drive on local roads too or just avoid the area or take the train. There are always options.
Not for trucks.
At least we know the Protols
Will take 2 or 3 years to fix it
I bet it's open in a few months
Given how early in the construction season we are, a new bridge could possibly be up by mid-late november, depending on when the first freeze is. Early next year at the latest.
6 months or less if built like they do in Utah!
No it will not.
Just smile for the camera.
It looks like they could open the highway, if they would get their equipment out of the way!
The fire was in the rear of the tankers, all the trucker had to do was drive the truck 200 feet to clear the bridge.
Does anyone else find it odd that the driver of the truck is never mentioned? It is also against the law for a tanker truck to park under a bridge. Someone is not telling the truth about what happened
Also why are they limiting comments or not letting us comment?
The tanker did not park under the bridge it came to a stop after being in a accident
And the govt is trying to get diesels off the road? If that was diesel in those tanks that bridge would still be standing: easier for fire crews to manage a diesel fire. And note that all the equipment to clean up this mess was powered by diesel.
California is going to get rid of diesel fuel.
It will grind to a halt there.
How can they get engineering and permitting and bids collected in three days? No government has that much going for them.
@@Plutogalaxyalso instant work for anyone in the construction field.
Cal Trans can do it.
The replacement bridge should be all-steel and modular like military bridging for much easier maintenance and rapid future replacement in hours instead of days.
No exotic tech required. Many WWII Bailey bridges are in use to this day. All US infrastructure should be designed for rapid repair, replacement and recycling because the cost of doing that is a trifle compared to the economic cost of disruption.
They should hire you as a consultant, where did you get your engineering degree from
that overpass was only 10 years old and was steel / concrete.
I walk over this bridge a lot, I live close by and I walk to the spot near their to get my hair done
Why it’s being covered that a 22 years old male from Stamford diving a Chevy Camaro hit the tanker and caused the whole mess???. What are they hiding???

We defeated the Nazis by bringing down their bridges and railroads to break their supply lines. It all happened in stages...
Who is "we?" Germany was defeated by the Russians. The West was mostly in for cleanup.
repairs begin? They've been under construction for over a decade now causing lane closures and traffic jams in Norwalk. This entire accident was the result of poor construction zones in the bottleneck of Norwalk... Bottleneck bullshit. Cant wait for all the traffic jams now when they attempt to fix this bridge.... UGH
Floyd the barber from Mayberry (Andy Griffith show) makes a better cop. Of course Barney Fife is better.
I'm hopefully they can build a bigger wider bridge and make it higher enough for the truckers
It was already high enough.
It wasn't about that.
They’re equipment looks a lot different then ours on the west coast
We say that about uour women as well!
They parked that truck under there on purpose to continue their plans😢

@susan5272: When the road west of I -87 to Lake Placid Ny was heavily damaged by the remnants of Tropical Storm Irene, the governor cut the red tape so at least one lane was usable asap, as he gave a deadline to have the road open or " some heads would be rolling".
The area had some villages only accessable by helicopter to get people to hospitals.
