I have the K-Pact Select and it’s the best knee/shin pad I’ve ever owned(and believe me I’ve had plenty). They honestly stay on perfectly and the protection seems great to me.
Alvin Yu Climbing is not a thing I really do, but I suppose they would be great considering they don’t fall off, have decent ventilation and good freedom of movement.
MTB Madness nice one, there are so many good reviews of these pads around. I might give them a couple of laps and see what they ride like before I write them off completely
Bought these purely bcos it was the one of the few pads i cld find tht fit my legs (xl). None of the fox pads cld fit. But am glad tht i bought it. Had a couple of big hits on the knees n walked away ok and didnt hurt the knees itself. Wht i like abt these pads are despite being burly, you hardly feel them on and it sticks like glue
I've tried a few pads with D30 foam and similar and yes they feel harder when you first put them on or just tap/bang on them. However, once you wear them and they warm up the foam is much softer and conforms to the body/joint. They'll still harden under impact but because it is conformed the impact is more spread out.
David Spencer yeah I’m into the foam itself for protection, as long as theres a pad between your body and the shell otherwise its nasty. The Dakine elbow guards I run have a similar style shell but theres a pad between my elbow and the shell which feels much better for impacts. I was devo I thought these were gonna be killer
I have been doing some knee pad research too, and the sas tec material absorbs the impact energy and disperses it over a larger area over a duration of time. A hard shell will absorb it over a shorter duration and therefore have a higher impact force on your knee, overall force over an area. So they will both hurt like piss regardless of down. But I think these fancy new materials have a lot of research behind them. I just bought the ions after trying on 7 different pairs. Thanks for the video all the same though.
I tired those fox launch on at a shop and found them really comfortable, but I ended up splurging on some POC vpd air knee and elbow pads super inpressed with there gear. elbow pads never drop but you charge harder than me! Love your reviews so straight up and honest keep it up brother!
I think a big thing you missed is that foam softens when exposed to the heat of your body while riding. My 7 Protection knee pads use the same foam and they feel great!
Squatch im not saying they don’t feel good to wear, but in the event of a hard impact they will transfer a lot of the force straight to your knee due to the lack of any soft padding between the knee and the shell. Definitely not the pad for me

Yeah the foam is pretty hard, even after a 20 minute ride. So much for the foam being advertised as soft. I'll be replacing the SAS-TEC with Knox CE 2 armour asap.
I went from the my Fox launch pro knee pads to Raceface Ambush pads - so good and you don’t need to remove your shoes but agree the fox launch are great pads (I still have mine)

There’s no mention but that pad is a SAS-Tech CE2 level pad which is superior to the Fox and can absorb double the force although ofc your bones won’t care about the maths im sure with any big impact.....technically you’d think the knees are safer with CE2, the foam inner makes sense but maybe reduces ventilation, I’ve just got the Kpact zip and the shin guard, but also some forcefield CE2 d30 to test too
Gearzilla cool thanks for the info. Yep you’re right, my knees only care for not feeling like they’re being smashed by a hammer. Unfortunately thats what they feel like on the drop to your knees test
take a look at the bliss team knee pad. CE level 2 on the knee with a bunch of foam padding on the sides with kevlar coverage, plus I think it's the official knee pad that the Madison-Saracen DH race team uses.
Thanks for the review the 5 stars are stunning. Could you add material between your knee and the pad/ Would the longer version Ion pact select would that be any better? If anyone has these two could you educate me. I am looking at these two but his review is not very comforting?
His review of the K-Pact is complete rubbish. I wear the K-Pact every time I ride and I have bashed my knees a few times. The pads performed perfectly. They did not transmit the impact to my knees and they inner surface has enough give to diffuse the impact of my knees going into the pad. The also feel soft to my knees in non=crash situations, like kneeling on a rock. It takes a special kind of nerve to post a review of a product that you have not even tried. This guy is showing his lack of credibility.
Just bought these myself, they seem good, time will tell... Had those fox ones too.. Just retired a set of nukeproof ones with shins which have been awesome but now f*ckin stink lol...
Orlando Greer I've got the new launch pros and they are excellent. Super comfortable and provide heaps of protection, even covering a little bit of the shin. They also have protection on the side as well which is a bonus, definitely recommend them.
The zip feature on the other model is the best thing since smartphones

Yup, i went leatt knee 2XL, couldn't even get the Fox Pro thigh part over my calves lol wish more brands did thick boi sizes.

I've used the ion kpact for 2 years, holes worn thru them had to patch them, straps stretch bad. But all in all not a bad pad

The fox knee pads are my favorite! It’s time to throw it away:/ I just got the ion knee pads the padding is weird feeling on that I need hard impact!

W Davo thats another thing, some pads really create a foul stench after a while and they’re impossible to save. My IXS Flow elbows were like that
