    Thank you, I wanted to try emulating but couldn't figure out Mama so I tried Launch box with mame added but could only get one game to show up and work. I tried for days to get it working deleting and reinstalling etc...with this video I had mame running fast. Now I have a small collection of my favorite games I played in the 70's and 80s when I was a teen. I am going to try adding the high scores today and then adding the media. And who knows maybe the bezel art soon ,you have opened a whole new area to explore for me and many others.

    10:00 The bitmap prescaling does a perfect integer scaling before the bilinear filter and shaders kick in. It gives them more pixels to work with and so improves them. For old 320x240 and similar games a 4x or 5x prescale can look really good finished off with a bilinear filter. The bilinear just pops the image out to fill the screen without making it a blurry mess.

It seems to go in cycles, so at some point I'll exhaust the desire to play and get hungry to create again I'm sure. My favorite bezels that I've seen since I've been on a break are the "Dark" bezels by Orion's Angel. They're the ones that look like they're in a dark arcade with only certain things lit up. More realistic that way and less distracting from the game screen.

    • @DerekMoore82
      @DerekMoore82  2 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, if you use the built in screen capture f12 or Windows, then it won't capture the image with the HLSL settings in tact. So you gotta use a 3rd party screen capture software. I used to use Fraps, but these days I use Nvidia GeForce Experience built in screen capture, Nvidia Share for recording as well.

    I have an old Mame build running off of Jessie on a raspberry pi 3. It's in a full size cabinet i built YEARS ago and has been in storage. I can turn it on and everything still works like it did, but all of my features (wifi, etc.) are broken and unsupported due to it being an old build. I'd want to update it all to a much newer distro. Would this get me up and running again?

    Great video first of all it really helped me out concidering how intimdating the menu lol. But I have run into a few problems. First of all I don't understand how to map my ps4/xbox one controllers in the inputs and second I was able to match a few buttons on my player 2 controller and get it to work (even if the buttons are layed out wrong) but for some reason my player 1 controller WILL NOT WORK and I do not understand i just won't so i can only play on the player 2 side no matter what. Please I am begging anyone to help me. information that might be useful into figureing out why its not working is
    1. player 1 is a ps4 controller and player 2 is an xbox controller
    2. i was using bluetooth at first with the ps4 controller but then when it wouldn't work i switched to wired
    3. my xbox controller has been wired the whole time
    idk if any of that matters but any and all help is welcome.
    Also I'd like to know if theres like a save/load state setting? I'm trying to make a video of all mortal kombat fatalities for fun lol. And its easier when most emulators i have let you save and load states on the older ones because im fairly bad at the older games and it saves a LOT of time because the old inputs in the arcade games arent always easy.

    • @DerekMoore82
      @DerekMoore82  Год назад +1

      Hey buddy, sorry I forgot to show how to configure the buttons in the video - I *knew* I was forgetting something!
      Anyways, here's what to do: To bring up the menu hit the Tab key on your keyboard. To navigate inside the menu you can use your keyboard arrow keys and Enter key to accept, or Esc key to go back. From there you will see the first option is called Input Settings, press Enter. Now you'll see Input Assignments (this system). Go in there to assign the buttons for the game, don't forget to also assign buttons for Coin 1 and 1 Player Start.
      To create a Save state: Shift+F7
      To Load state: F7
      If you want you can reassign your save state and load state hotkeys (as well as other system function hotkeys) inside the menu called 'Input Assignments (User Interface).'

    Fresh download here........ 2 questions:
    1. Dude, how comes when click 'available' there is a load of stuff listed (most of which looks like console names and similar etc. - some written in grey and some in white) rather than an empty window?
    2. Once I've created an .ini, the games put into the ROM folder still don't show up in the 'available' list amongst all the other stuff.....
    There's not 'Plug ins' option in my options lists either.

    • @DerekMoore82
      @DerekMoore82  8 месяцев назад +1

      What version of Mame are you using? Sounds like the Available tab on your Mame is pointing to a pathway on your PC that has BIOS files, or a Roms folder with the BIOS files in there and for whatever reason it's not filtering those out as it should and is instead populating the list of Available machines with hardware rather than software. Could you take a screen shot of what it looks like (you can hit print screen on your keyboard and then open an art or image editing app and hit paste to paste in the screen capture, then save it as a .png or .jpg) then upload that screen capture to something like imgur or whatever and send me the link so I can study it for troubleshooting purposes.

      Hey, I'm so sorry it took so long to reply. RUclips never showed your comment to me in my RUclips inbox or notifications. I had to manually come into RUclips Creator Studio and peek around at the Comments Tab and found this comment just now. Also, sorry that RUclips autoblocked the posts with links - that sucks.
      Anyways, I went ahead and downloaded the same version you are using - Mame 0.261 - and extracted it and then launched it default and everything looked fine - nothing in my Available tab.
      Then I downloaded wwfroyal from archive dot org and put it in my Roms folder, and it showed up in the Available Tab.
      Then I tried launching it and got errors about missing NAOMI bios, so I went back the archive dot org and grabbed naomi.zip.
      Then I launched it and it said it was missing some other Bios, so I got those from the archive.
      Then it finally launched, but it can't get past the NAOMI logo and is not working.
      I took screen shots of my progress along the way, hopefully RUclips will let me share this link: imgur.com/a/au54CQM

      Are the extra ones clones or bootlegs of your 5 parent ROMs? Most ROMs come as sets with all the various versions included, so if you get a Street Fighter II game, you'll see all these Street Fighter II Rainbow Edition hacks, e.t.c. As long as you have the bezel art in the artwork folder, with each bezel folder named exactly as the rom, for example, Mortal Kombat bezel art should be in a folder called mk with it's lay file (layout info that Mame recognizes, different than retroarch bezel art) and that folder should be in the Artwork folder. Then when you launch Mortal Kombat you hit the Tab key to bring up the menu and then go to Video Options then Screen #0, and you should see a list of artwork to choose from here.
      I have older videos explaining everything related to bezel art if you still have any questions just ask.

      Yeah, I'm going to call BS on that one. I've been using MAME for close to 25 years. If an arcade machine saves high scores, it does so using NVRAM which MAME stores in a separate file. MAME doesn't disable NVRAM saves for using cheats. Why would they?

      At some point Google Drive made some annoying new change where all my old links were no longer accessible to people without this dumb new permission system. And so I had to check my gmail every day and authorize all the requests I would get each day. And then one day it stopped letting me authorize, it would say "too many individuals have access to the files, you can allow more with Google business premium yadayada, blah blah something." And so now nothing works. I need to find a new free sharing system that just works without any money or gimmicks. Let me know if you have any ideas.

      You gotta change a setting and then save the changes, doing that will cause Mame to generate a mame.ini file. You can always try just dropping my mame.ini file in there as well.

      @oldstarscream thanks! For whatever reason, it was not displaying the file type. I got through that part of the setup. Both display an error message, pirateship opens, but gives a "backup ram error" and SWTrilogy gives me a "missing file" error. Thanks so much for your videos. Liked and subscribed.

    • @DerekMoore82
      @DerekMoore82  Год назад

      Yeah, you double click and it should run. Or if it can't run it for some reason then it will display an error window with some information about why it couldn't run the game. What does the error message say?

    • @barfly14
      @barfly14 Год назад

      @oldstarscream it didn't show an error message, just froze the emulator so I have to force close. This is both on your settings you linked for version 0.254 and for the updated version 0.257. I googled it and played around with the video output options and by default it's on d3d. This is what froze it incase anyone else has this problem. Seems to work fine on bgfx or OpenGL , doesnt work on GDI either. Thanks for the guide and artwork etc.

      @@barfly14 Just out of curiosity, are you on a Windows operating system with a GPU capable of pixel shader 3.0, and do you have Direct X 9.0c installed? (Those are the minimum requirements for HLSL with d3d).

    • @DerekMoore82
      @DerekMoore82  Год назад

      @@barfly14 Yeah, but don't worry - it won't mess up your current version of dx12, it will just add that old direct x 9.0c language to your runtime library that HLSL needs to function. It will detect if you already have it or if your system is missing it, if so it will add that old dx9.0c into your dx library. Think of it like this, each version of Direct X is like a book in a library, and modern systems tend to have the latest books (Dx10, Dx11, Dx12, etc). However, Dx9.0c would be the equivalent of adding an old book to the library. But you still keep all your new books, you just add an old book to the shelf. So there's no issue adding it. Just be sure to download it from the official Microsoft site and not some fishy site.

    Can I use this specific setup on my ps3??

    • @DerekMoore82
      @DerekMoore82  10 месяцев назад

      I think you gotta use Retroarch on the PS3 and then the Final Burn Neo core to run arcade roms. I mean... I'm not 100% sure on that, but PS3 mod setups aren't my area of expertise. Either way, you can use archive.org for the roms and whatnot. But this video is for standalone Mame on the PC. I've never tried it on a PS3 but there's probably videos and forums dedicated to that specific topic.

    Why not just use retroarch ?

    • @DerekMoore82
      @DerekMoore82  Месяц назад +1

      @@itguru2037 You can use either. Retroarch is better in some ways, like having the world's best shaders and features. And stand alone Mame is better in some cases, like having all arcade games work and show up in the list without relying on multiple emulators, or outdated emulators, and with the lightest footprint. Really good for cabinets that need to appear legit for example.

      @@xxKUTAKIxx non chd is all you need for 99% of arcade games. There are only a few special games that used larger storage and so you can look through the list of chd games and see if any of those are games you want to play, if so then for any chd game you want to play it will need its chd and it's rom from the non-chd section.
