When the Romans recount their attack of the (supposed) ‘Seat of the Druidic Order’ on the island of Anglesey, they record that the army was, for a time, terrified by men calling down mist, surrounded by women clothed in black robes, dancing, screaming and singing, across the water.
This makes me think of the Irish Myths where the Morrigan or Badb are seen screaming over the battlefield, or mentioned performing magic during the battle.
@Sprite If the Normans were getting routed, like you say. Than they should have been defeated when the Saxon's broke their shield wall to chase them. I read somewhere the Norman's did that to get the Saxon's to leave their shield wall, so that would get slaughtered them.

Great video. The Catholic Church itself has its own magic; it knows the power of magic, which is why they were even harsher in trying to eradicate and "demonize" any trace of native Germanic and Celtic magical traditions. Things like the traditional Latin Mass, the doctrine of transubstantiation, etc.. are basically just inversions of Roman magical traditions. Indeed, Paganism survived LONG after we were allegedly Christianized. Not only because the folk lore and traditions are often Pagan, just given a "Christian" veneer, especially in Catholic regions such as where my ancestors (Swabia, Flanders, North Spain) where my family comes from. Just to speak from what my father and oma used to tell me, and also what I see from family pictures: It was common to go to natural springs, and there were these little shrines throughout the countryside that often seemed to receive more attention from many than churches. The folk traditions that still survived about Holle, Wodan, and the Wild Hunt, the Maibaum, decorating trees, Fastnacht, etc.. Our seasonal and fertility rites that have absolutely no basis in the Bible and certainly not the Middle East, so it had to have come from what was indigenous to us. That's why many of us who take a more Continental Heathen approach focus alot on what we can reconstruct from folklore, since we lack many of the sources as our Norse brethren. Christianization was a long, gradual process and took hundreds of years even officially. So even in an area like Swabia, where we were more centrally controlled by the Roman Empire (and its Frankish successors), we were only officially converted in the 8th and 9th centuries and that came after a long period of syncretism when they slowly eroded our traditions. The final catalyst was when the Frankish elites (whom thought of themselves more as Hebrews than Germanic) destroyed our Alemanni law codes (some of which you described in a previous video) and massacred thousands of our warrior-leaders who were both a threat to their power and preservers of the old ways. This happened not too long before they turned their energy against the Saxons, who were the last Continental Germans to be conquered by them. This was followed in medieval times against our natural healers and people of the forests, who also preserved alot of our Heathenry. I have so many stories about the importance of the forests throughout my own family history, so even subconsciously much survived (like Jung described about the Wotan archetype). We can also look into the Church records and the different Councils, to see how lingering many Germanic or Celtic traditions were long after Christianization. They speak alot about different traditions (called "demonic" or "superstitions") that our peoples still stubbornly preserved.

Here is my definition of Odr - to SHED the "self" or "ego" in moments of intense reality,... in order to revert to a pure, timeless being who knows no fear, no concerns and allows the higher, or true self to take control for a while. Men who enter this state during battle are the ones who emerge virtually unscathed, having killed an uncounted number. Often, after battle, other people would have to tell them what they saw them do, as the individual would often be unaware or unable to remember what they did during the battle. It is witnessed by others to be entering a Zen state, becoming serene and calm in the middle of pitched, hand to hand battle. I also think it is brilliant of the Norsemen to have Women present during battle - they are accessing the power of the biological imperative by having available, attractive women in proximity to the fighting men. It would be a mistake NOT to involve attractive, powerful women in a battle, on your side.
that's quite the nice fantasy you got there but I'm afraid to tell you that is not the reason why they had woman on the battle. Times were harsh back then, very harsh and the entire concept of genderspecific strength and weaknesses had no place at all. Men and woman were mostly equal in rights and duty. Everyone had to do their part in everyday life, and when there were battles and fight, woman had to do their part too and that exceeds showing all of their good arguments. They actualy did fight among and equal to men and there are plenty of well known examples for these "Shieldmaidens" as we like to call them nowadays. Not every woman was a "witch" and the ones who could fight, did....

Then comes Richard from Normandy, descended from Rollo. In the end, the Norse won 😉
The Isle of Ely, in Cambridgeshire, East Anglia is pronouced with a long "E" Ee-ely", as in the creature as in Eel. 1066: There are two middlemen, the Count of Flanders and a guy named Ranulf "the Moneyer" du Vains. The moneyer shows up out of the blue, and disappears the same way, but his sons names are recorded. The French did not hide that they hired armies, the English did hide these facts. Flanders backs Goodwinson, Thorkell backs Edward and then William to the great displeasure of Flanders. As an example Thorkell tied himself to Ethelred, his support went way beyond Danegeld, his reactions and support, I believe, reflect a deeper allegiance based on family or culture. Ethelred looks to be an Angle-I may be wrong. Or, Thorkell may have decided against Danish Kingship, and there are many apparent reason as to why.
According to where I am coming from, your explanation of Odin sounds like 'being here and now': no recollecting of the past, not analyzing what's happening now or fantasizing where it could lead in the future. Just being here and now and doing that what is in front of our nose.
Odin is a master of many things. While it is good to analyze the past to learn from mistakes, it is not good to dwell there. Learn from the past, plan for the future, but live in the present.
Even as a Christian and believing that Christianity was a blessing for Europe. It's still interesting to learn how the pagans were thinking and how they viewed sprituality. (Sry for my bad english btw)
Krigsgaldr reminds me of the song from Heilung. 😉 I am a modern witch and I am very interested in Völva and war magic. Thank you for this important video! 👏🌱🌳💚
It's blow my mind, bringing a witch in middle of a violent men war, to curse the other side . And the other side probably got their own witch who curse the other.
You say that because they had to bring a volva over from France they weren't common. This may be true. But have you considered that it might have more to do with the fame or power of the volva and even the fact that the early Norman kings and their troops were still more Norman than English? The upper echelons still spent a lot of time back on their Norman lands and even the common troops probably felt more Norman than English? Richard clearly provided his army with a witch for morale purposes; he wanted to make them feel invincible. He could have done that with a wise woman from the nearest village, but would that have given troops from Normandy much confidence? I doubt it. A volva from the Premiership League on the other hand would have a much greater effect. She would be known to the king and his council and her reputation would be fairly widely known amongst the soldiery. Her spells would naturally be way more powerful and thus the effect on the morale of the troops would be that much greater. The bottom line is, would the soldiers have trusted a local hedge witch to get the job done? Or was this a job for a professional?
Same teachings, different terms and ways of understanding the spiritual. There is a lot of symbolism, while seemingly different, but is the same in many ancient civilizations. Some ways of raising the serpent involve sex and being sexually healthy. Of course, this doesn't mean become a whore. In my spiritual path, I consider sex sacred, so I share it only with my husband. Sexual energy is also life energy, so the men with the witches and other women on their side doing certain things would invigorate them more, therefore, increasing their battle prowess. So, it was a way of helping that along.
Hi! Thank you so much for this. Really informative! Do you have any more references for examples of witches in battle? I’d love to read more but struggling to find anything. Cheers!
@@lottalarsson4121 While there were some differences between the peoples, they still had things in common. Druidry was practiced amongst many ancient peoples, but under different names due to language differences. After all, nature is nature.
@@kalinora3901 Druids is part of the celtic culture. You have to use generic names. For the germanic tribes it becomes really wrong, since seidr and galdr were practices for women. 5:28 The first witch Brünings happened in the Renaissance, that again something the history books tell us wrongly, they always blame the Middle Ages, but in the Middle Ages until the early 14th century people were actually quite tolerant, when the 14th century launched, religious oppression started to get big, I’m not quite sure, but from what I’ve read, it had partially to do with one of the new popes, who basically had a stick in his but and believed that the pope should be more „faithful“ but again, don’t quote me on that. As for the accounts of Tacitus in Germania, did he not say that the Tribes would bring their entire families to cheer them on? I never heard it just being Women.
Women in ancient times were savage, you probably wouldn't like what you see, with a modern man's eye. It was probably a very big ass, with hair lol, like men of those times wouldn't mind.
I tried to found in the Lieber Eliensis this fragment about showing ass, but all i found was "gathered their secret weapon, the old woman, who was set in a high place, ‘and having gone up, fulminated for a long time against the isle and its inhabitants, making many spells, likenesses and fantasies of their overthrow’.6 However, just as the old woman was about to launch her third attempt at a magical attack against the defenders, they crept out of the reeds and set fire to the trees at the edge of the fen. The old woman was so terrified that she fell from her place and was killed:7" Thst is all, there is nothing about showing her ass or back or anything,
Greetings brother Harald Hardrada believe he had rights to the English throne because He descended from King Knute of England. He claimed his family would be promised it would rule England and this claim was also supported by tostig Harold Godwinson’s brother.
Could it have also been to fill the enemy with disrespectful lust towards her(there are many historical sources of the rape tendencies of conquering armies) to disrupt the Hamingja of the enemy?
To quote Bronn from Game of Thrones, "There's nothing like a good fight to get you in the mood for fucking. And there's nothing like a fuck-mad Dornish girl to clear your head for the next fight. It's how the two work together." I guess the same idea applies here.
Norse Eiffel Tower... hahahahahaha that's savage! I am a recent watcher and love your content! Great stuff, sir!! Thank you for your knowledge and humor!
So the whole Norman empire never really betrayed the Vikings of Ragnar Lothbrok in fact the Normans even though independent from Ragnar Lothbrok followed the same path as Ragnar Lothbrok by travelling to defend those who would oppress both the Normans of Rollo and the Vikings of Ragnar, the Vikings of Ragnar did get betrayed and slaughtered by the Christians just like the Normans got betrayed and hunted as witches by some Christians the Normans were also hunted as witches for rescuing the pagan Jewish Templar's during Halloween.
During the funeral in ibn fadlan's account, a man walked backwards towards the ship to light it. He was naked and covered his arse with his hand. From what I remember this was done to not let the spirits get inside him. Perhaps this völva exposed herself to let spirits inside that would give her power?
I can see why people might think that. My theory is that if they had special (sexual) relations with other sprits, deities, or other beings, that would definitely get their attention. However, one does not have to expose themselves for an entity in spirit form to enter them. More often than not, the naked bodies would encourage their men to fight to keep them pure from the enemies. Being naked or exposed would also distract the enemies as a nice body would attract many eyes.
Christianity being adopted initially was just a political move. Most people kept practicing the old ways and some never stopped at all, still honoring their ancestors to this day.

Right. Not easy to fight with wood and fkg aching bb’s. My girl does that shit to me all the fkg time when I’m editing, walking around in fkg thigh high fk me boots and teasing fkrz online cuz I’m busy. Luckily I’m a shreditor so I slam it tfo, then slam it tfo.

I can't believe this got top comment, when you don't try, I guess.
Mange Tak! Excellent lecture. Love your content!
I've read somewhere that there were still an active norse culture in Småland/Sverige/Sweden as late as in the 1700's...
redice.tv/news/isolated-people-in-sweden-used-runes-up-until-1900-still-speak-old-norse
I had read something a while back that some groups that were cut off and in the mountains still hold the old ways also. I'm going to look for the articles, if I can find them again.
Modern day barracks, vehicles and fortifications usually have some presence of pin-up posters
Being "in the zone", responding and acting correctly without thinking about what you are doing.
Odin is a master of many things. While it is good to analyze the past to learn from mistakes, it is not good to dwell there. Learn from the past, plan for the future, but live in the present.
Extremely interesting!!! Thank you for sharing this!! Probably binge watching your vids the coming days.
Völva, the word för the female witch, may have inspired the word vulva, the center of of the woman's body and nexus of her magic powers.
Even as a Christian and believing that Christianity was a blessing for Europe. It's still interesting to learn how the pagans were thinking and how they viewed sprituality. (Sry for my bad english btw)
It honestly in a way uplifted the area, but i disagree with it. It served it's purpose but it's purpose is not done with.
Ódr seems to be when we tap it to our most primal instincts. When we are most truly alive.
Krigsgaldr reminds me of the song from Heilung. 😉 I am a modern witch and I am very interested in Völva and war magic. Thank you for this important video! 👏🌱🌳💚
Hey sister greetings from Germany 🌳🌳🌲🌱🌿🍀
I love Heilung also😊
I'm an Aussie Animistic Heathen - absolutely love Heilung, they have really changed my life - we listen to them most days.
@@tuathadesidhe1530 A pagan witch 👋i love Heilung ,in German it means Cure or Healing 🌛🌕🌜Blessed be
But i love Norse mithology and have a high respect for Norse Gods
Interesting- the Wargasm 😂.. As always you provide a whole other perspective
It's blow my mind, bringing a witch in middle of a violent men war, to curse the other side .
And the other side probably got their own witch who curse the other.
Side note, Wargasm is a pretty good band.
Fascinating, as an English man I did not know that William the Bastard used a volva.
@Spencer Proctor Sorry. Me no understand
Inserting the word "kundalini" for "Odin" in this explanation of Norman magic also works.
I love your channel. Excellent.
I adore your content!
Normans had st. Michael as a revered saint. He is the one slaying the dragon. Perhaps they saw a parallel with Thor and the serpent, Jormungandr
In Ireland they called it the "Irish warp-spasm".
Hi! Thank you so much for this. Really informative! Do you have any more references for examples of witches in battle? I’d love to read more but struggling to find anything. Cheers!
I am also interested in these references.
Me too ! Unfortunately, i couldn't find any other Sources. This is a very interesting Topic !
I used Seith/Seidr for Nordic Druids in the world I write, related to the Vanir since they are naturey.
I'm sorry but druids are celtic not norse.
Men were seen as ergi doing this. Druids also had types like bards or lawyers. In germanic world skald is the name for poet.
XD
I did not know this. Really interesting thanks
Hmmm... it sounds like maybe spiritual, divine, or transcendental ecstasy/rapture would be a good way to describe what they are experiencing...? I don't know, lol, it's just the thought that entered my mind when you were trying to describe the possible 'sensations' of the whole experience.
good witchs who had a reputation that her magik worked
As for the accounts of Tacitus in Germania, did he not say that the Tribes would bring their entire families to cheer them on? I never heard it just being Women.
Ahhh my good sir... come and join us on our journey to see jesu

This is bad ass girl’s should do this for us on the Battlefield today
Women in ancient times were savage, you probably wouldn't like what you see, with a modern man's eye.
It was probably a very big ass, with hair lol, like men of those times wouldn't mind.
"Guys, we aren't any different in life than we are in the spirit world." flol
I tried to found in the Lieber Eliensis this fragment about showing ass, but all i found was "gathered their
secret weapon, the old woman, who was set in a high place, ‘and having gone
up, fulminated for a long time against the isle and its inhabitants, making many spells,
likenesses and fantasies of their overthrow’.6 However, just as the old woman was about to launch her third
attempt at a magical attack against the defenders, they crept out of the reeds and
set fire to the trees at the edge of the fen. The old woman was so terrified that she
fell from her place and was killed:7"
Thst is all, there is nothing about showing her ass or back or anything,
So.......Vikings had cheer leaders?
Have you ever heard of Crowland it is walking distance to Guthrum as well a where Thorkell lived.

what if the warrior with the most kills of the enemy got to go on a date with the witch ?
Greetings brother Harald Hardrada believe he had rights to the English throne because He descended from King Knute of England. He claimed his family would be promised it would rule England and this claim was also supported by tostig Harold Godwinson’s brother.
Huh... so that witch was the first instagram "model" on record.

Thanks for the info .
Could it have also been to fill the enemy with disrespectful lust towards her(there are many historical sources of the rape tendencies of conquering armies) to disrupt the Hamingja of the enemy?
One question.. is all the books you get your sourses from.. are they from Norway/Sweden/Denmark?
Which history books did you learn from? This is interesting to me.
I find myself being reminded of an Monty Python skit where there is this individual on a wall yelling "I Fart In Your General Direction!!"
Now you got me thinking of "always look on the bright side of life" 🤣
So what is it when everything slows down except you?
It’s funny that a women’s bra ad shows up during this vid, with gals dancing around. LOL🤣
The yoni and womb is the most important. Vaginal canal / womb is the black hole sun portal , is interdimensional and holds the power and MAgick ⚡⚡⚫🕳
To quote Bronn from Game of Thrones, "There's nothing like a good fight to get you in the mood for fucking. And there's nothing like a fuck-mad Dornish girl to clear your head for the next fight. It's how the two work together."
I guess the same idea applies here.
Interesting.
I'm always surprised to see a thumb down on these videos. Who is the grumpy a hole putting a thumb down?
Its the people who like the information but get offended by my foul language xD
It could be a Christian.
Norse Eiffel Tower... hahahahahaha that's savage! I am a recent watcher and love your content! Great stuff, sir!! Thank you for your knowledge and humor!
Interesting thank you 😎👍🛡️⚔️🇨🇱🇺🇸❣️
Do you think the Heilung show/interpretation is a good example of modern day gealdýr? Or using that argument... even heavy metal, right?
So the whole Norman empire never really betrayed the Vikings of Ragnar Lothbrok in fact the Normans even though independent from Ragnar Lothbrok followed the same path as Ragnar Lothbrok by travelling to defend those who would oppress both the Normans of Rollo and the Vikings of Ragnar, the Vikings of Ragnar did get betrayed and slaughtered by the Christians just like the Normans got betrayed and hunted as witches by some Christians the Normans were also hunted as witches for rescuing the pagan Jewish Templar's during Halloween.
Very interesting video. Although I do take issue a bit, with the statement that the Normans "won easily" at Hastings.
They shouldn't of ran down that hill...
@@stonedape2406 Yes, unfortunately your right
During the funeral in ibn fadlan's account, a man walked backwards towards the ship to light it.
Can someone point me in the direction of the picture with the bloody black painted woman holding a spear? i would love to get that for a background.
Hey! Sorry to ask this.. but what is the song you used for this intro?? Its so short... i cant find it myself anywhere...

Hi there iam a Norman seeking my roots ty
Christian in name. Church services with a priest reciting magic words in a dead language. They worshiped the god that gave them victory in their mind.
Oden loves the ladies
Christianity being adopted initially was just a political move. Most people kept practicing the old ways and some never stopped at all, still honoring their ancestors to this day.
King Olaf brought Christianity to the vikings in Norway having them get taken over and having to move.
Rollo was called Ganga Hrólfr which means "Walking Rolf" because he was so heavy he couldn't ride a horse. He walked to battle
High 5 that cartoon! Hel yeah! (Hel spelling intended). I would not give up my pagan beliefs just because someone else said to.
"A lot of the girls"? Keep in mind that Odin practiced Seidr. Loki may have tried to shame him, but the search for knowledge and wisdom knows no bounds least of all gender.
