You’re able to find kids like this because they’ve been broken so many times by people who were supposed to love them. That crap hurts seeing it happen because my mother use to work with kids like this a take me with her to work the kids felt like family to me but when they told me their backstory I knew how being broken could make someone become a way similar to Kataro

This series is so well written and beautifully nuanced. I'm on my 4th series rewatch since it seems I'll never get more, and it gets sweeter every time - one day, I won't cry watching it. My fave is how Shin just starts following him around, and they become 'each other's guardians' until he eventually becomes Kotaro's first subject. it just melts my heart
I've met many young people, many teenagers too who have to survive, I myself had been one. Friends who just want a loving a family, a place to belong, who just want to be of age to run away and make their own lifes. I wish I could make a safe place for all those who need one, where they will be loved and will not have not keep enduring a harsh life like this. It breaks my heart really :( I hope Kotaro can make his dream come true
Going thru these threads has woken me up to how unsafe children are in our world. I have to honestly admit I had some rose colored glasses about the whole thing, and I've been doing research into it, and it's entirely too common for children to be abandoned and neglected, sadly

Not true, in real life, in this case he would probably end up in a child care facility - not living alone. NOW the question is will they mold and raise him right so when he gets out in the real world he will be a decent human being. Also believe it or not, there are still countless good people out there who are are willing to look out for people in need, people just like Karino. I dont know why you would assume he’ll be dead but if you think there are no good people in the world, then be one.
This is both cute and truly sad and dark. Yes it’s a cute moment but when you notice how broken he is for his age it’ll make you cry.
