Fun fact: what Aoyama wrote on the rock is a French proverb. "II n'est pire eau que l'eau qui dort" it means that quiet people who look harmless tend to be the most dangerous people.
I think the literal translation is like "the worst water is still water" (it's been awhile since I've dealt with French so idk for sure) but some people translate it as "still waters run deep" I think that makes sense with the meaning bc sometimes water looks still on the surface but is actually really chaotic and dangerous underneath

What I love most about the Aoyama friendship is that it actually carries through the rest of the story 💞 Deku forges strong friendships through life threatening situations and trauma and such, but with Aoyama they just have a shared experience and then hang out more later, which is cute as heck! It's surprisingly normal for the crazy stuff they usually face.
Aoyama brings up a topic that the fans dont talk enough about but quirk incompatibility has to be a devastating issue, being born with something your body cant handle so youre basically stuck with a dangerous chronic illness. Aoyama would be lucky in the case that a support item can help live and even thrive through being able to train to be a hero. Others might not be so lucky.
What scared Inasa before was the hate and contempt in Endeavor's eye, this time there was none. Inasa learned his first impression of Todoroki was wrong, and perhaps the same with his opinion of Endeavor.
Aoyama's comment about Lunch Rush's food not agreeing with his palate was code for "I have wicked IBS, and I have to prepare my own food to make sure I don't end up having an accident"
I remember when this scene with Aoyama in the manga everybody freaked for a whole week. It was really funny to see everybody’s reaction about Aoyama trying to be friends in his own weird way.
I love these episodes with Bakugou and Todoroki because they establish a very specific dynamic between the two of them that carries from here on to the latest chapters. They get incredibily funny.

I know it's just a relatively short story at the end there with Deku and Aoyama becoming buddies but I really like it. Just two dudes encouraging each other with the power of cheese and friendship what more could you want
I really do enjoy the world the magaka has built in MHA. Nothing is straight good or bad. Hence why I feel like a proud mama seeing Bakugo grow. Yeah he starts out bad an immature, but really goes through an intropective journey to get to the point he's at in this episode.
Todoroki is what you get when two quirks combine in equal measure. He basically has both quirks occupying a single slot, as it were. What if someone could hold three? More? Eri is what you get when two quirks mutate. They aren't usually as powerful as time manipulation, but that it _could_ happen is serious. The longer quirks exist in the world, their base strength will multiply until toddlers, without any training, could very well destroy the world.
That childcare arc was super short, but it sure packed a punch!! Bakugo's ability to self reflect, despite his ego and drive to be better than everyone else, is very impressive. It is amazing but kind of tragic to watch Bakugo go from wanting to hurt and humiliate the 'boss kid' to forcibly remove his power because 'that's how he was raised', to not only be the one to look for the 3rd option in a straight win-lose scenario, but to treat the 'boss kid' with respect, and offer him advice as an equal, with agency. It wasn't until the aftermath of the kacchan v deku fight in season 3 that anyone approached Bakugo with straight, honest advice rather that angry judgement or unexplained platitudes, and that honesty and respect means A LOT to Bakugo. Also love the parallel self reflection and offering respect to others from Endeavor. That's just good writing 👍
20% is only for the moment of impact, he just forced that out temporarily to his advantage cuz it still hurts him, 8% as of rn is still his comfort zone
Not the biggest fan of this arc, but I do like that this license ep shows that even very young kids have pretty complicated social structures sometimes, especially since I remember how much one kid could affect the entire vibe or outlook of a class/group. I actually think everyone is aware of this at some point, but as we mature, we tend to devalue and underestimate previous stages of development that we ourselves were a part of, so I'm glad this episode doesn't fall into that trap.

But in all seriousness, as someone who didn't have a great number of friends growing up I can put myself in Aoyama's shoes. He is sort of a weird loner, who probably doesn't think that he has much of anything to offer as a friend to anyone. His grades are pretty poor, so he can't tutor. His quirk doesn't actually stand out and twinkle that much when it's compared to the rest of 1A. Heck during the provisional licensing exam, all that he thought he could offer was to be a lure for other students so that way his classmates could succeed and pass. He was willing to sacrifice himself because that's all he thought he was worth in that moment. So when it came to Midoria, and him wanting to reach out and encourage him as a friend, thinking that his words might be less than meaningful the next best thing he had that he could offer is well...all that cheese. haha PS love your MHA reactions. Can't wait for you to get to my favorite episode(s) coming up soon. Especially with my top 2 favorite characters. #1 being someone you've seen but not met. #2 being the someone you wouldn't expect.
antoehr reason i love this arc so much that it is my favorite, is endeavor character development, i went from hating the guy, from feeling sorry for him, i truly belive that once you regreat, TRULY regrear your wrong doings, you diserve a path to redemption.

I think its interesting how this show kind of has an explanation for why kids are doing all this crazy stuff. In other anime its just kind of a kid power fantasy to say "see? Dont underestimate kids" without any reason other than these specific kids are driven. In my hero theres that, because clearly these kids want to be the best and also have real experiences to boost them further, but they also have the genetic fact that Quirks are growing stronger each generation. though you can counter because class 1A dont really have any weird combo quirks that we know of besides bakugou, and todoroki. Though the fact that those are the top powerhoses alongside deku (Whos power is also a result of multiple generations technically) does still push the idea that these kids are also just have more genetic potential.
I of course want you to still watch Daredevil, but I’ve been watching To your Eternity and I like it a lot so I’m excited for when you get around to watching it.

I love Slice of Life, don't get me wrong. I watch more slice of life shows and movies than I watch action shounen's. There are parts of this arc I like for sure but it is by far my least favorite arc in the entire show so far including the newest season 5. I'm hoping, as you have done in the past, that you offer a new perspective I didn't have on the characters (mainly the "villian") and arc as a whole which will probably make me enjoy it a lot more. I don't think it is bad or anything, this show doesn't have lows that last entire arcs its all consistently great stuff but yeah looking forward to getting to this Season finale and than Season 5 hype.
I honestly think the villain in this arc is actually secretly the most important one in terms of who Deku faces. Not to get into too many details, but this villain is completely different from all other villains Deku has faced, and makes him realise very quickly how villains aren't just Bad Guys. They can be good, unlucky people. The audience learns this through a different villain but Deku never really properly meets that Villain. The only one who teaches him a valuable lesson that none of the other villains in the series ever does is season 4's villain.
I'm being super vague BC I don't wanna spoil but below are the names so SPOILER BELOW!!!! DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED SEASON 4 IN FULL: - - - - - - So looking at the story, the audience gets to learn how a villain can be a truly good person because of Twice. However, Deku never actually meets Twice properly or gets to know him. So you have Gentle who, like Twice, was just super unlucky despite being a genuinely decent dude. Even Twice has murdered though, even if less than his teammates in the league. Gentle however hasn't done any of that. Apart from trying to make a name for himself as a villain he hasn't even done that much harm. So Deku is forced to face the concept of an unlucky human being forced into the situation they're in instead of just seeing a villain, and also forced to look at how truly flawed hero society is to have done wrong by a good man like Gentle. He got a taste of it from Stain, but Stain was still a murderer. Deku could ignore the correct parts of his ideology because he hurt people. But he couldn't ignore Gentle, and thereby couldn't ignore the huge failure in the system that made him the way he was. He also sees a little of it in Kota's response to heroes, but Gentle Criminal really does give him a reality check when it comes down to it.
I think ayoma is the spy because when they were at the forest he was near the nomu he didn’t harm him and he also suddenly became friends with deku and they added this part so that they could make us affectionate towards the character and he probably fakes the pain.
This is such an odd episode, because it's basically two separate short stories with a bit of an epilogue to the last arc thrown in the middle. Not to mention how weird the Aoyama part is.
At the high school I attended (New York), which had a very strong STEM program, you could take AP Calculus BC in 10th grade if you were advanced enough -- and it was a big school, so there were probably about 20 students who did that in each year. I ended up taking multivariable calc in my senior year, and the year after I graduated, they went a step further and introduced an AP Differential Equations class. So, if the school prioritizes it and allocates funds toward those programs, it can definitely happen.
I just recently saw a very interesting theory that Aoyama might be the UA traitor and this episode has some of the reasons why. So first of all, Aoyama says that his body doesn't match his quirk, he even has to wear a specific belt for it and a theory is that he got his quirk from a certain someone (All for One) at a young age in exchange for Aoyama and his family working for him. Secondly, him wanting so desperately to be friends with Deku. Some people who believe in this theory think he specifically chose Deku to be closer to because Deku of course has had the most contact out of the class with the League and is good friends with pretty much anyone in class so he wants to be able to spy more on him. Some other people who believe in this theory think that because Aoyama can see that they are similar in terms of their quirk being incompatible with their bodies and he relates to Deku, that he so desperately wants to find a friend to help him get out his "deal with the devil" and he knows how Deku is and that he could probably help him the most. There are even more reason like in a certain training exercise when the League attacked and Aoyama was nowhere to be seen the whole time and many more reasons. Idk if I explained it well hahah but I found it very interesting. The theory is explained very well by 'Vocal Pineapple Academia' here on youtube.

This is such an odd episode, because it's basically two separate short stories with a bit of an epilogue to the last arc thrown in the middle. Not to mention how weird the Aoyama part is.

@@AGoodwinTV probably, but tbh its really funny to me, whenever tv shows wanna show complicated math, they'll show some nasty integrals.
At the high school I attended (New York), which had a very strong STEM program, you could take AP Calculus BC in 10th grade if you were advanced enough -- and it was a big school, so there were probably about 20 students who did that in each year. I ended up taking multivariable calc in my senior year, and the year after I graduated, they went a step further and introduced an AP Differential Equations class. So, if the school prioritizes it and allocates funds toward those programs, it can definitely happen.

I just recently saw a very interesting theory that Aoyama might be the UA traitor and this episode has some of the reasons why. So first of all, Aoyama says that his body doesn't match his quirk, he even has to wear a specific belt for it and a theory is that he got his quirk from a certain someone (All for One) at a young age in exchange for Aoyama and his family working for him. Secondly, him wanting so desperately to be friends with Deku. Some people who believe in this theory think he specifically chose Deku to be closer to because Deku of course has had the most contact out of the class with the League and is good friends with pretty much anyone in class so he wants to be able to spy more on him. Some other people who believe in this theory think that because Aoyama can see that they are similar in terms of their quirk being incompatible with their bodies and he relates to Deku, that he so desperately wants to find a friend to help him get out his "deal with the devil" and he knows how Deku is and that he could probably help him the most. There are even more reason like in a certain training exercise when the League attacked and Aoyama was nowhere to be seen the whole time and many more reasons. Idk if I explained it well hahah but I found it very interesting. The theory is explained very well by 'Vocal Pineapple Academia' here on youtube.
