I am a beginner and I have noticed that so so many times the issues with threads bunching up etc get solved by re-threading the machine. 😅 It is really important to know how to properly thread and to keep the tension discs open while threading the machine.
i have just found a brother sewing machine while trift shopping in a rural area in Morocco (which is very unusual) I have always wanted to learn how to sew so i just bought it for 35$ while i have never touched a sewing machine before I am an absolute complete begginner your video has been very helpful please make more videos like this one ❤❤❤❤
My husband just gifted me a Brother computerized sewing machine because I wanted to learn how to sew. I'm a complete beginner, and your video was such a blessing🥹. Thank you💐
I just pulled out my grandmothers Kenmore sewing machine (from sears-rip) from 1973. Luckily she kept the manual and it is in pristine condition. Luckily my father grew up with it so he knows how to do a tune up. I can’t wait to start sewing with it and make her something with her own sewing machine, a full circle moment. This was super helpful in learning about the technical things even if the machines are vastly different. The length/width/tension is something that I had no idea about and was confusing me, this was full of great knowledge and really let me understand the machine so much more! Thank you!!
I can use my sewing machine and have done many many projects and have learnt so many new things with this video thank you! Now the real challenge for me is clothing, I'm gonna start 😊
I’ve been very resistant to learning to sew because it’s like a new language that I could never figure out from other teachers. You broke it down so well! Looking forward to more of this series when you have the time and capacity, but video 1, this one, and the absolutely adorable bag tutorial will be perfect! 💜
I’m so glad you found them helpful!! The next one is coming in the next week or two! I have a bit more time these days so they’ll hopefully be more regular uploads!
Yayyy you uploaded the second episode!!! I’m getting my sewing machine on Friday and this series is very helpful. I look forward to the next episodes😊😊
Thank you so much!!!! I’m just deciding to buy a sewing machine and my only experience was one semester in junior high school!! (I’m 54now) So exciting that someone teaches us how to use a machine and learn how to sew!!
Thank you so much! I have started the third episode, just haven’t been able to find enough time to finish it with two little ones at home, but it’s coming!!
Thank you so (sew😉) much. I have been gifted a sewing machine by a friend who has upgraded. Your video is clear, easy to follow and has given me the confidence to start sewing. Best wishes from the UK
I came across your first video and your thoughtful, simple explanations made me want to start sewing!! Thank you for the content and time you’re giving!
1. You are mind blowing-ly gorgeous 2. thank you for this video, it was packed with information I can't wait to put to use. I went out and got a fabric I'm excited about and I'm ready to start stitching it. 3. Can't wait for the next video!
I picked up my sewing machine for the first time in years after watching this 🥰 I have two things that i need help with though, I'll explain as well as I can even though english isn't my first language 😅 So first, while I was sewing, I guess I stretched the fabric or something because the piece on top kinda slided way off all the time, and it created some "bumps" where I stioped and tried to rescue it. How do I make the pieces stay in place all the way? I used needles but didn't really help. It was a stretchy type of fabric which I intend to keep using. 😅 Second, after I finished sewing and flipped it inside out, I got this gap between my start and end point. How do I sew that gap together as invicible as possible? I have no idea how to sew it together and make it look good... 🙈
Im sorry, I really am not sure what is going on just from that description. I wish I could help! I’d maybe ask around if you have any people in your life that sew, to see if they can take a look and help you out!
I have never been to a sewing class but over the years I’ve gotten by. I prefer using a pattern which seems to be a thing of the past. Which site offers free patterns. Thank you
I have a video with my favourite free patterns up, or mood fabrics has a lot of free patterns. If you google it, you’ll find lots of blog posts with lists of where to find them!
I'm a student, and in order to keep it budget friendly I've purchased a mini machine, so it doesn't have different types of stitches or lenghts, just straight ones. Will it still do the work all right? Also, love the simple yet effective video💘
Thank you! Unfortunately, I would say most mini machines aren’t going to work too well and will likely just make you frustrated! I would maybe check marketplace or ask around to see if any friends or family have a machine you could use! You will also need a zig zag stitch to finish seams and for sewing knits 😊
@@sewbakemake oh! Okay, will try to get it from somewhere in the future, right now let's hope this works just fine lol. Also, I've already tried somethings on it and so far they've gone fine, thank you tho✨
hello very beautiful video i whish you would film how to operate the sewing machine electric foot pedal how its used to sew please kindly let me know ok?thank you very much 😊
Hi. I bought a small sewing and using to hem pants. My issue is that the needle is not piercing through the fabric...is it because it is too thick? or my machine is not good for the job?
It’s hard for me to say but if the fabric is really thick and the needle doesn’t even go through, it could be the machine, but it also could be that you’re using the wrong needle!
I stated the make and model in the video 😊 - this one is a Viking Jade 20. I’d say the majority of newer machines have top loading bobbins, it’s only older machines that have front loading ones.
It’s hard to say without seeing your machine and the fabric and needle etc, but I would start by retreading both top and bottom thread, then changing the tension settings, changing the needle, then trying with tissue or paper or using stabilizer with the fabric!
Honestly, you can use whatever side you like if it’s not obvious! Or even if it is, you can do whatever you like, that’s the beauty of sewing for yourself!
Can you do some videos with patterns for every day items that we use like a tank top, T-shirt, panties/thong and Long maxi dress And Flowing Feminine/girly ?skirts
I feel so bad I have a brand new machine Ive never used (still in the box). I always look at seams on an outfit and how its made so that I can make my own. Clothes in the stores are so boring and expensive, not to mention poorly made. As a young girl I watched my mom so. Anything I wanted she would make. All I had to do was draw the outfit front, back and sides, undicate buttons, zippers and darts. My mom was a great seamstress and even made her own patterns out of plain paper bags. People sought her out. I may not be able to sew just like her, but Id like to try. It would be like shes still alive with me😢

Ah yes- thank you! I forgot to add that in my voiceover!! The presser foot should always be up so the tension discs aren’t engaged while threading.
Rethreading is the sewing equivalent of turning a computer off and on again. It fixes a lot of issues!

would a skirt be a good beginner project?
I think it would be! Depending on the complexity, but most are pretty simple!
Love youuu
I have a small space. Is there a portable table I can use sitting on my sofa?
Are you going to continue the series? I see it’s been a couple months?
Yes! The next episode is coming this week or next! I took the summer off to be with my kids!
What do I do if I don’t have those guidelines at the needle plate?
You can always mark lines with some painters tape, or a great hack is to tape a piece of an ikea paper ruler onto your machine to use as a guide!
@ Thank you☺️
Where can I find episode 3?
I’m editing it now! Hopefully within the next couple weeks!
Whats the 1/4 inch foot for your Jade 20 machine?
I believe it came with a 1/4 quilting foot
What machine are you using? My bobbin does not go in that way. I’d suggest that you state the type of machine you have 😊
I stated the make and model in the video 😊 - this one is a Viking Jade 20. I’d say the majority of newer machines have top loading bobbins, it’s only older machines that have front loading ones.
@@sewbakemake okay. I came in the middle. I have a Bernina and it’s different 😀. Husqvarna Viking didn’t have what I wanted.
i sew straight stitch, when i start over again, the thread keep coming out off the needle..can you help me pls🙏😩
You probably just need to pull the threads out a little further before starting! Holding onto them for the first couple stitches can also help!
I have had some extreme looping where it's pulling in to the lower bobbin any ideas for how to fix this ?
It’s hard to say without seeing your machine and the fabric and needle etc, but I would start by retreading both top and bottom thread, then changing the tension settings, changing the needle, then trying with tissue or paper or using stabilizer with the fabric!
When the thread is pulling to the bottom, it can mean the top tension isn’t high enough
Is there a way I can slow my sewing machine down? I don't know if I'm just nervous or what but I feel like I'm going WAY TOO FAST!!!!!
like I know if I lighten up on my foot but no matter what I feel like I can't go slow enough lol
Sometimes there is a speed dial where you can change the speed, but the more basic models generally don’t have them!!
Where is episode 3 😩
I am struggling with the last few steps of the threading the machine idk what I’m doing wrong
Hard to say without seeing it but I’d check your manual and just make sure you’re following it exactly!
Can you use the machine you 1st started with because I don't want to invest in the machine you're using rn. As I'm a beginner
Sorry, I no longer have that machine. Most machines are pretty similar, you just have to learn where the stitch length, width and type are on yours!
I struggle to sew any curved lines :(( can anyone help? so many beginner sewing tutorials completely skip explaining this..
I have a video on this planned!
That’s amazing thank you! 😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰
