    I got to know Larry Adler quite well in the late 90s and his view at the time was that of all the music written for him (including by Vaughan Williams) this concerto was the one piece of music he appreciated the most in terms of being suitable to the instrument. His favourite concertos overall were those of Rachmaninov and he particularly enjoyed playing alongside recordings of Rach 3 and the Paganini Rhapsody...
