      Lourdes Pena, hi this is me a year from now, and I still hasn’t come out all the way. You can still see some blue parts, which looks very weird cause now my hair is it’s natural black( from going it out), a blonde/blown, and the very ends are a light blue.

    I've been growing out my natural hair color for 17 months now (July 2014) I haven't been using any color, straightener, hairspray or blowdryer at all since then. Best decision ever :) it was a very very slow process, but totally worth it. . Nice video btw :)

    I bleached my hair for the longest time (my natural hair is slightly darker than yours). I tried doing the ombre thing.. bleached blonde at the bottom and my natural on top, and I decided it looked a little too different for me to say the least lol. I got it chopped and professionally colored and it's kind of faded at the bottom and a reddish brown on top. It isn't horrendous but it's not too pretty either. I can't tell you how many hair videos I've watched with no results or it's way too expensive. I love your honesty! I too look at pictures of me when I was younger, and you've given me faith that this will work! I'm going to color it one last time in December and follow your steps. Thanks so much!!!

    Thanks for sharing your story! I started dying my hair back in 2008 and I regret it now. I have had pretty much every hair color and I got bored. In 2015 I kept the same hair color because it wouldn't budge. I cut my hair short and I am starting over now. I'm looking forward to seeing my natural hair again. I have been taking better care of it now. Thank you for the tips.

    Do you have any tips on staying confident while your hair color is fading and your natural color is growing in? I have had a messy hair journey and I'm officially growing it all out. Its been about 3 months and you can't see my roots, I mean I can but I know it's there, but I know the color is gonna keep fading over time and I keep stressing about it and I feel less and less pretty as the time goes on. Do you have any advice to keep me going and not covering it all up again? Please help! Lots of love and thanks.

      Jeri Cronk I'm so excited you wrote this! I actually just filmed a video today about confidence when growing out your hair. It will be up today or tomorrow! But real quick, the thing that helped me is coming to realize that my beauty was not in my hair but my heart. And ALSO, I didn't deprive my self of heat and doing my hair nice. The color may not look good but I can style it darn good. Curl it, cute pony tails. Don't let your hair go, just because it's not where you want it to be. Try new hairstyles and get cute outfits. Haha! Thanks so much for commenting! 💗 I'll be putting out a lot more videos about growing your hair back!

    Your videos have been so real and SO helpful! For the longest time, I have gotten highlights. But for whatever reason, back in October 2016 I wanted to have that "FULL" blonde color, and no roots growing in. So I went to my hair stylist and we bleached it. It looked good for awhile, but it was definitely a huge mistake. I wish I wish I WISH on all of my life that I would have never done that. The blonde was bright, and extremely white, but it eventually washed out and had orange-y and ugly yellow-ish tones to it. Needless to say, I should've just gotten my highlights re-done, because the effect is almost natural looking for me. So here I am now, 7 months later, trying to decide what to do with my hair. My friends keep pressuring me to dye it back to a color that's closest to my natural color, but I feel like it's not that easy! I feel like it takes a lot of thought and my own personal want to do it. I of course want to do it, because I haven't seen my natural hair color in so long, but I have been going blonde for so long I'm so scared I won't like it or feel beautiful with it. I guess I just have a few questions for you! So since I have been growing the ugly, nasty bleached color out since October of 2016 (roughly 7 months) would it be safe for me to dye it close to my natural color? These roots are driving me crazy, (considering my roots are a dirty blonde/light brown-ish color like yours). Do you think I would be okay to just dye it close to a natural color, or should I take the steps of no color, hairspray, and products first and wait a few months and then re-dye it? Don't feel obligated to completely know the answer haha! I just thought since you have so much experience that I could ask you for some insight. Your videos have seriously inspired me so much, and I have been so on the fence with this idea and watching your videos have honestly motivated me. Any help or suggestions you could give me would honestly be soo appreciated!

    • @LaurenDawn
      @LaurenDawn  7 лет назад +3

      Natalie Van Buren Thank you so much for commenting! That is so encouraging to me. Honestly, I think you would be fine to go a head and dye it back to your original color. You have let your roots grow out for a while now, and I don't think it would hurt it any more than it has been. I would probably suggest going ahead and dying it back to your natural hair color and then stay away from hair products and hairsprays to rejuvenate your hair. Your hair has had a long enough break in my opinion. That's how long I waited. Dye it back and go easy on all products and hairsprays. Even though your hair may not look or feel beautiful, YOU still are (I can tell by your profile pic hehe)! I had to let go of all my insecurities for a time and I couldn't be happier because now I have healthy hair again! I hope this helps! 💕

    Thank you so much for this! I had a really similar hair journey. My hair is naturally blonde but I started dying it black when I was 16. Since then I've done so much to it... bleached it, color oopsed it a million times, etc etc. I'm just done with it. I can't afford it anymore, and I don't want all of those chemicals in my body. I also want my hair to just be healthier already and go back to what it naturally looks like. I cut my hair a few weeks ago and so far my natural color is coming in a lot. My hair is a dark brown right now. I cut it really short so I'm going to wear extensions until it grows in more, but other than that I'm leaving it the hell alone. I'm also using the same shampoo you are in its been working great! Thank you so much for this motivation!!

    I think I now have the same problem as you. I’ve noticed that my 4 months worth of roots are literally impossible to spot. This is a good thing but I was just wondering, how did you notice that all the dye was gone if your natural colour is so close to the dyed colour? I’m just assuming that my hair is slow at growing but a part of me just thinks, “oh it’s just super close to my natural colour it’s hard to see” x

    Thank you for this video. I am going to go into the process of getting my hair back, and my hair has gotten a looot of damage over the years. Bleaching and dying it all colours of the rainbow is not the smartest thing I have done haha. I luckily already didn't dye it for a couple of months, it is still damaged but I think it will be allright. I can't wait to start the 2nd phase of this in a couple of weeks. Hey Lauren I'm referring back to this video as I stupidly thought it would be a good idea (after growing my hair out for months and months as you know!) to bring my blonde up higher well I bleached it .. I still have about an inch worth of my natural roots as I only wanted to bring the blonde hobbit now my hair feels awful ! I'm going back to the macadamia range and sticking with it and going to be soo careful with it now. I'm NEVER bleaching it again ! I want my natural colour back so bad! I'm such an idiot lol. Anyway I just wanted to say this is still the best video on RUclips for growing out your natural colour ! And congrats on over 34,000 views that's amazing ! Xx

      Lauren Dawn I really don't know why I did it , it was nearly out as well :( it's starting to get long too and I'm tempted to get it cut short to speed up the process but I've spent so long growing it! I'm thinking it's going to take at least a year to be near where I want to be maybe even 2 as I don't want to dye it again even to match my natural colour. Youre so welcome I'll always watch your videos as long as you continue to post them ! Your videos are great and the way you speak about acceptance of things and ' letting it go ' is so empowering, especially in this commercially driven day and age. Xx

    Hey! I really need some advice and motivation from you.. I had gorgeous light brown hair, similar to yours, and I dyed it blonde and then trying to get it back to natural it turned black, like yours.. I tried removing it at the salon, really paid a lot of money and just got more damage, now it's still really dark brown, some parts black. Really wondering, how you removed the black after the let it go phase? I want, I NEED my natural color back as soon as possible.. I just can't dye it anymore or do anything to it, don't want to waste my money 'cos I now it won't help. I know I have to grow it out, there is no other way, but it won't look like an ombre or trendy, I'm really afraid of people making fun of me and the worst part is that I'm starting my first year of college in a month and leaving my family.. Do you suggest any hairstyles to make my roots less visible? I'm also planning to cut my hair short as soon as I have enough of my natural hair, I don't mind having it short, but it will take me 7-8 months to do it, to grow all the black out.. sorry if I wrote too much, but I'm really sad and depressed, lost all of my confidence and don't know how to get over this period in my life.. thank you for this video, I hope you'll see this, lots of kisses! 😔❤❤

      Rose Hathaway Hi Rose! First of all I know, know, know how you feel. How your confidence can go down. How you really do not feel like yourself, or feel pretty. But the moment that I came to grips that there was nothing I could do (beyond what I explained in this video haha), that my beauty did not lie in how my hair looked, it was so freeing and pushed me to be able to grow it out. You are beautiful. Period. Beyond any bad hair color. I know this is easier spoken than done but it it true. Your beauty isn't defined by any physical part on you but the inside. When I realized that, it really did help me have the patience to grow it out. Now, for what I did physically. After I dyed it black, color oppsed it three times, it had lightened to this weird brown color. I hated it, didn't like it but I let it go for about 5 months. My roots did come in and they were a lot lighter but I just left it. It wasn't cute for a while. After about 5 months I decided to try and lift the color by professionally getting it bleached and dyed close to my natural hair color. This helped but it did not look like my natural hair color at all. It was definitely lighter but not my hair color. I waited another 2 months and got bleached and dyed lighter than my natural hair color. And since thin I haven't dyed my hair at all. I hope this helps, try not to put your hair as the best thing you can offer people. You sound so sweet and I like you and I don't even know what your hair looked like. I made another video about this on my channel that talks about confidence and insecurities if you wanna watch that! Much love!! 💕💕💕

Then I dyed it all dark brown and have gradually lightened it without bleaching but by using boxes that lightened it a Lil to now a reddish tinted brown. My roots aren't red at all and idek how to go about growing them out without it looking gross in the process. Any advice??

    I have dyed my hair since I'm 12, I started with highltits until my hair was totally blonde, naturally is like yours dirty blonde and when it was all blonde I dyed it dark brown I don't know why and then it started fading out when months passed and it looked a bit orange/rosy blonde and I hated it and decided to dye it all blonde and every month I dyed my roots and after a year of this I dyed it dark again but not as dark as before and I hated it as well and decided to let it go and grew my hair for about 7 months and then dyed it blonde again and I'm talking white blonde and now I've tried to do this reverse ombre where I put dark brown on my roots (it was all white) and when I took it off in the shower the rest of my hair turned grey and my roots instead of a light brown that o thought It would be because I thought it would fade out its almost black in the roots and grey in the rest and I want to have my natural hair but first dye it as close as possible to my natural hair color. What should I do?

      Girl, I feel ya. I felt like I was In This never ending cycle of bad hair color. If your hair is really like my hair color, I would probably bleach it to blonde. Not like super drastic, just enough to get a blank canvas. Then from that point let it grow. And let it go! Thanks for sharing! I would go to a hair salon too. I did mine and that's when I really ruined it. Lol

    • @LaurenDawn

      When I went to a salonist, that's when it was fixed enough to begin letting it grow out. It is worth spending a little extra money and finding a really good salonist. :)

    My hair is a natural dishwater blonde with a lot of red undertones... No matter what color I dye my hair it comes out red.... So.. how would you suggest I get rid of the red so it looks dishwater blonde again?

    • @LaurenDawn
      @LaurenDawn  7 лет назад

      Brenda Kocourek If your hair naturally has red undertones, I'm not entirely sure how to get rid of it completely. I know mine as well had orangey and brassy tones to it when I dyed it. The only way I got rid of the red was 1) I dyed it a much blonder color (hair has levels of tone so dirty blonde tone, when lifted the red/brassy/orangy tone, and then after that yellow, blonde color) 2) Once it's blonder that the dirty blonde, just letting it grow out. I hope this helps! 😁

    Hallo,thank you for this amazing video!I coloured my hair frome my 14years I think.. Last months I have very often some mood to change my hair,or change haircolour.. I tried all colours but it was horrible sometimes,you know ;) My colour is blonde,or this is the colour which I love and where I feel confident and happy.. But sometimes I missed my natural hair colour,I think that it will very simmilar to yours.Few days ago I decided to try let my hait grow without any bleaching.Actually my hair was coloured approx. 6 weeks ago,so I have some roots which is looking good (because ombre is hit now so it is good :);) .So I hope that I will stay and let my hair and I will finish in next year with my natural haircolout.. And I have to say,you are really pretty!!:)Do you have some blog or something?I will watch your videos,I am enjoy on it :) sorry for my english,Iam czech :))

    Thank you for this video! I do not use chemicals, nor do I want to dye my hair again, it just takes a long time and it can be motivating seeing other people who have done this as well. I am now in the process of getting it to a colour that looks decent to grow out. How long did it take your to grow back a full head of natural hair like you have now?

    • @LaurenDawn
      @LaurenDawn  9 лет назад

      +Eure Ka Thank you so much for watching and commenting! It took me about two years to get it 100% my hair. The process might be even shorter depending on how long your hair is. It does take a longer time to just let it grow than to keep covering it with chemicals, but I promise, it is sooooo worth it! You can do it! The time will go faster than you think!

    I dyed my natural brown hair to a light blonde ( from the boxed hair dyes) After a year of retouching the roots i got tired of the color and just decided to go back to my natural hair, but accidently got a dark brown Instead of the medium brown my hair originally was. Now my roots are black for some reason and transitions to parts of the light blonde in the middle and some parts of my natural brown hair at the end. I just want my natural hair color back but i'm not sure what to do!? Should i go to a salon and dye it? Should i try another box hair dye that matches my hair color? Should i use color oops? So many questions because i dont want to risk ending up with green hair or damaging it more. Any advice?

    • @LaurenDawn
      @LaurenDawn  8 лет назад +1

      Hey girl! Ok so my guess is that your roots are black because of the more recent bleach on the roots. That part of the hair retained the color more and emphasized it. If it was my hair, I would probably let it go for a few months, as hard and possibly atrocious you might think your hair looks. Regain some of the health and then I would go to a salon and dye it back as close to your natural hair color. My hair is light brown and going a much lighter blonde and growing it out worked very well for me. After I dyed it blonde, I just let my hair grow and grow. The roots were hardly noticeable! I would not use color oops though. I hope this helps!

      +Lauren Dawn yes I know but when I want to grow it out I need to cut it short my hairdresser said. But I won't do that I love my hair. It is dry from the ombre. I cut I three months ago. It is getting back in healthy condition. But it takes time. We have a lot more of different products in the Netherlands then you have in your country. So I am doing everything in my own way and my hairdresser's. But she is a home hairdresser. well she comes at home to people and doesn't have a salon. So I am trying it with a natural shampoo from hara. It helps But my color fades quickly. And I can see that on my roots the grey starts to show. But I am blessed with thick hair. It can take some things. But I hate it to dye it every 5 weeks. god bless you you have your own haircolor. I was dark brown black and now silver grey.

    what about moisterisers and serums? is that included in the no products?

    • @LaurenDawn
      @LaurenDawn  8 лет назад

      Alley Cowley I told someone else this the other day, I believe as long as the serums and moisturizers don't have harsh chemicals in them, they should be fine. At one point during my process, I did use it's a 10 leave in hair treatment when it was so unmanageable and tangled, and that was fine. The biggest problem with products are the harsh chemicals and the build up that cause breakage. Hope this helps! 💗

    • @LaurenDawn
      @LaurenDawn  8 лет назад +1

      I think a pixie haircut is honestly the best option as far as time. Your dead ends are minimal because of the length. If I cut had my hair to a pixie cut and then colored it black, I would skip the letting it go stage at the beginning because the damage is minimal because of the hair length. I would dye it back to your original color and then do the let it go. Thanks for commenting. Hope this help! :)

    I'm a boy and my hair is brown and kinda orange and I don't like it how can I fix it

    • @LaurenDawn
      @LaurenDawn  7 лет назад

      Hugo Mejia if it's orange because of dye, there are special shampoos you can buy to get rid of the brassy orange tones. If you want to change it now, you could either dye it close to your original hair color or just let it grow out or get that shampoo (a "Silver or Purple toning shampoo" usually sold at Sally's or buy it online) I hope this helps!

    could u use coconut oil instead of gel or not

    • @LaurenDawn
      @LaurenDawn  8 лет назад

      You know, I'm not sure that would work just on its own. But I know there are decent chemical free, organic gels that wouldn't be so damaging to your hair. You can order them offline, but I am interested if natural oils could be used for stuff like that. Thanks for the comment!

    • @LaurenDawn
      @LaurenDawn  7 лет назад

      Mikekosa Kosa Hey! Ok so I would get a good haircut, maybe chop off any layers you have to give your hair a thicker look. If the color is real bad, I would get it to a color (done by a recommended hair stylist) and let it grow! I made a video on my channel that is shorter about 7 things to get my hair back healthy! I hope this helps! 😀
