Remember the gloves had 3% left so the peril was on them shutting down before he could get her. That lady at the end might be placed to watch Ruby, and you are right, the second we finished the episode someone on twitter was already bitching about the singer even though they were on screen for about 30 seconds and not even their name was there lolol saying that scene ruined the show for them. Idiots for realz
I don't think in that moment you're supposed to be having an emotional reaction to Ruby specifically being gone but more the fact that she seemed to serve as an anchor for her adoptive family whose light seems to have been extinguished. Cherry had no pep to her and said they weren't that blessed to have any proper love flowing through their home. Just temporary in the form of fostering for a few days. I did however think the reactions to the Doctor were a bit off.
"So much went on, but not a lot went on" - you've hit the nail on the head. It was a fun watch, but it was all over the place. I think an episode like Rose was paced much better, because it wasn't trying to cram in the family dynamic quite as hard, and the auton's didn't need as much of a focus so you could let the characters breathe. Ncuti has absolutely smashed it so far, though. I don't think I've warmed to a doctor as fast as I have him, he just has the perfect energy.
I agree with you both it was fast paced and perhaps just too fast paced but on the other hand I guess RTD was trying to cram in so much of the initial core elements in regard to the backstory of Ruby what with it being her introduction to the show and of course showing us the flamboyance of Ncuti's doctor - plus then the very first story itself of the new series. It might just be one of those that needs to watched couple times and then you get the rhythm of it more without being thrown a bit by its fast pace. Least it was still not a poor episode and if this is the sort of doctor and companion we are going to be riding with on these oncoming adventures well, on their own Ncuti has his own unmistakable flamboyance with great distinct personality as the Doctor and Millie playing Ruby equally lights up the screen and an extremely likeable character...but there is certainly a great chemistry with them as doctor and companion so, think RTD has done good and we are set for some great months ahead from May 🙂
The new kids to who think they own it. I’m 48 been watching my whole life. Love this new doctor. He’s so refreshing, it’s a bit like when suddenly worzzel gummage was the doctor. Lol
Oh yes! But be careful now, there is a particular troll out there who goes from channel to channel saying that we oldies are liars and fakes because we have never watched the show. Weird and sad to think that Dr Who attracts such people. I'm 68 and watched it from the beginning - and so totally got Pertwee as Worzel!
The way the doctors "Why are you crying?" And her responding "I don't know" references when Vincent van Gogh asks Amy pond why she's crying and she responds the exact same, because something was missing from both characters and they had no idea what it was: but both tines the doctor knew it was someone they loved (Rory, Ruby) and he couldn't explain why they loved someone they didn't remember 😭
It was promising, but the pacing was all over the place imo. It never seemed to stay consistent and the energy and tension was just jumping around and dropping at very awkward spots. The future season trailer looked brilliant though, and I can imagine Ncuti and Millie having such an easy time slipping into their roles permanently
It was a very mixed bag, for me. Loved the duo, loved the song. Loved the Sundays. But it was so inconsistent in pace and tone that it was tricky to grip and hold onto, which made it feel lightweight and hollow. A very unusual narrative misfire from the usually-bulletproof Master Davies.
i have to agree with you with all the "this is woke" complainers. They also had Captain Jack who was flamboyant they were like, great. Now we have a flamboyant Doctor and they are now "it's woke now."
I enjoyed your reaction. I liked the episode for the most part. I do love the new doctor, I also thought the episode went by too quickly. I thought Ruby should have been a little more freaked out than she was, but I liked her. I wasn’t as crazy about the ending. There’s usually a cat and mouse game before a companion decides to follow the doctor. Just leaving the door open to the tardis so she can come along just seems a little out of character. But, I’m glad I saw it and I’m looking forward to the new season!
I think it was the TARDIS itself welcoming her in. Also, she really wants to find her mum-she seems like the sort to take that initiative when a chance presents itself.
I liked it, solid 8/10. Some things weren't perfect, but overall a good start to what I will affectionally call Fabulous Fifteen's era #FabulousFifteen #DoctorWho :D
I really enjoyed this Christmas special. I have a theory that Ruby is her own mum or that her mum is from a different time period. Im probably wrong but I’m throwing it out there lol
I loved this Christmas special, and what made my heart warm even more was that it triggered the right wing idiots at GB News, Talk TV, The Sun etc who blasted the special for being "too woke" - it seems this is the go to phrase these morons have about any TV show which has fairness, caring and tolerance in it's shows, in it's characters etc. Sad state we are in with these dinosaurs still around in 2024.
Amused me that you get Davina McCall and Claudia Winkleman confused as they used to co-host a raunchy late-night dating show called God's Gift in the 90s. There's a short page on Wikipedia about it.
Actually it's his second episode his first episode was the so actually this is his second o first episode with Catherine Tate and David Tanner in the giggle with Neil Patrick Harris this one is his and it's pretty damn good to be honest I love this episode I gave it a 15 out of 15 in other words it was really maximum🎉🎉🎉
Really glad I watched this one with my 6 year old cus - she'd never watched Doctor Who before. It was noot the best, fun but missed most its beats, but from a kids perspective it was the greatest thing of all time haha so that elevated things for me.
I don't think plot is necessarily important for this episode. I think it's just a daft, fun episode to introduce the new companion and for us to see how her and the doctor bond before the real series starts.
At 50 Dr Who should now fall under the category of 'It's for the kids' but I enjoyed this one. Perhaps it's what it's for. To keep us young. Rather less critical than some half my age!
Let me just clarify, when I said “GCSE acting” I was referring to the GUY at the end, not the lady. I understand the cut made it look that way, but don’t tell me that dudes acting was a 10/10 😂
I am thinking about writing Doctor Who for fun I have decided to regenerate the Doctor into a teenage boy and make him the youngest Doctor ever the first episode will be called Children of the Cybermen where we meet a schoolgirl called Holly Holliday who goes to school with her best mate Leon when they get there they see strange things like why are all the children talking and walking like robots suddenly they change into Cyber Children and chase after Holly and Leon around the school when Holly and Leon run into a class room the barricade themselves in meeting another teenage boy who happens to call himself the Doctor as the Cyber children break into the class room the teenage Doctor tells Holly and Leon there is only one way to save themselves from the Cyber children and that's through the class room window eventually trusting the Doctor Holly and Leon climb out of the window before realising there is the TARDIS there waiting with it's doors open Holly Leon and the Doctor jump inside and the TARDIS doors close behind them then the title sequence and theme tune plays
Honestly I'd squeal with joy if it was. We've seen the Master a fair few times. I think it's time another of the Doctor’s old friends/enemies returned. Let's be honest, the Master probably would let the Rani go, too useful not to. Though another theory I've seen is that she could be Romana or perhaps even Susan.
I feel like your multiple jabs at the fans with how u can "smell the comments", etc was overly played especially when it came to such minor things like Ruby having a black mother - it kinda pushes an expectation of the doctor who fanbase of being racists or anti-diversity which is fundamentally wrong, even with the few exceptions on youtube which im sure even they didnt have a problem with her mother being black. You're almost immortalising an idea that hasn't been perpetuated yet.
I’ve brought it up because these things HAVE and CONTINUE to happen, and your example you’ve given of what I said is exactly what people complain about, just because you may not be one of them doesn’t mean what I said is not true. I Stand by it.
@@DannyTDW Most of the fanbase's critisms of 'progressive' additions to Doctor Who stem from HOW they are incorporated into the show (such as the "non-binary" or "male-presenting Time Lord" lines from Rose), not WHY. Those toxic right leaning so called fans on RUclips have zero credibility and have said so many racist, anti lgbt things about med they use the term woke (which is not word) to cover they're own prejudices against culture progressing. This doctor who episode has everything I love about the show happy sad and lots of humour, ncuti understood this role straight away. The show is a goofy fantasy sandbox for storytellers to tell any story
It was ok but just another modern era Doctor Who story where the problem was solved far too quickly and easily. If they are going to go back to the regular Christmas Specials I would rather have a two part special with a classic Doctor Who cliffhanger on Christmas Day and finish it on Boxing Day. As for the new Doctor he was ok but I couldn't help thinking the girl who played Ruby would have made a much better Doctor, even just for continuity.
Are you kidding me?! The Doctor’s black, Ruby’s adoptive parents are black! What are they going to do next? Have an Asian character? How dare you not crap on this show for having black characters in it?! Doctor Who is supposed just to be about Sci-fi. Not black propaganda that includes black people in it!
Why weren't you enraged by all the inconsequential things that don't affect you? That doesn't fly on the internet, you're meant to be angry all the time! Real talk, love your channel so far. Super entertaining. This was a bit of a weird episode, wasn't a fan of the pacing and bizarre zoom-ins. Outside of Ncuti and Millie, there was some of the worst acting I've seen in Doctor Who in a while (haven't seen a lot of Jodie's episodes though). Hopefully now that we'll be moving into an actual season of television, the individual episodes will be more cohesive and of a higher quality. Personally I've always felt that Russel T Davies, while a great showrunner, can be a bit of a mixed bag as a writer.
I’m so glad it was enjoyable. First time I’ve not bothered. Having followed the show from its first broadcast in 1963 and stuck with it, Jodie killed it. I thought the 60th anniversary was last chance. It let me down so much I decided that’s it. Hope it carries on being as good as this appears to be. Time for you lot to put in the years!!
Small comment but please don’t blame Jodie. Jodie is a wonderful actress who has fed absolute scraps, it is the fault of the writers not the actress. She gets so much hate when she didn’t do anything wrong
I'm so happy you had the same reaction as me!! The ep was a mess on first viewing!! The pacing was incredibly weird & didn't relent to such an extent my entire family was in shock, we didn't know what we had just watched & didn't say anything during & after the credits for a few mins!! It felt like soooo much set up for season 1 in one episode & it probably was too much. Now the good thing is on 2nd & 3rd viewing it gets much much better 🥰 but the 1st viewing I just didn't like it. Hate the Sonic & I'd be pretty peeved if I had purchased the 60th Sonic right now (online exclusive anyone?) especially for my kids but it's not a hill to die on. Ncuti is fantastic though I adore him, could do without the musical numbers (I'm not a fan of musicals, it takes me out of the story & not being real in the show) I'm very excited for the future, roll on May 2024 🥰 Sad it's just an 8 ep run + a Xmas special though 😭
Wait, so you get mad at people who say it’s too wonk, but yet you get mad at how fast the pacing is. It’s literally just the specials doing right now. And it’s gonna take time. I think people are too used to the end of the last era to be fully into this new one yet.
This comment makes no sense, comparing an ongoing war within the community regarding diversity and progression, to a comment on how fast an episode feels? 😂😭
the story with the goblins wasnt interesting. that would be fine if we got a look into the motivations of the characters but beyond wanting to find out who her mum is i didnt get as much insight into who ruby was compared to rose in her first episode and i didnt find out much about what kind of doctor ncuti will be either. so overall not a great episode for me.
Rubys mum turns out to be the daughter of the main enemy jinx monsoon the drag queen (Russel has lost all grip on biology) as jinx is going to play a woman and not a drag queen. The woman who lives next door was rubys “watcher” who keeps an eye on her to know when the doctor comes and pics her up then she notifies “the boss” who is jinx.
The pacing was soo fast, way too many loose ends. The club scene was literally just for the trailer 😂 I could’ve gone my whole life without a goblin musical number tbh.. the sonic screwdriver looks like the remote from Click with Adam Sandler🙈 I can’t unsee it. And to top it off, how could the doctor leave Ruby’s family home in shambles for the holidays WITH a newborn baby?!? ……. It was alright though 😅 4.5/10
As long as the rolls are going to an actor that can actually act, then I don't care what colour, ethnic background, sensuality, or even what they identify as an issue. What I have an issue with is when someone of the above-mentioned, this is about all walks of life, not just films/TV shows, is when they get the job just to tick the so called "Diversity box" never mind the fact that the above-mentioned can not act or do the job what ever that job may be. So that is what makes me so angry, annoyed, and gets my goat.
First rtd episode that he's been back where I thought everything was just poor. Goblins weren't needed whatsoever as they just didn't impact the story whatsoever. Felt like loads of scenes were just put together rather then adding up to something. 1/5 rating for this episode imo
So you want them to ignore that they changed history and go back to say "gavity"? I swear, some people are just looking for something to complain about.
Davies tried too hard to play on our heartstrings, something a Christmas Hallmark movie does quite well, and I ended up feeling nothing for Ruby or her family. Moffat would've handled it better and made one care as he did in The Empty Child. As for Ncuti's "I am the Doctor" refrain and the close ups, they reminded me of Zoolander and came off corny. And why the old lady speaking to the camera at the end?
Yes, that's why the episode was disappointing. Good ideas, elementary execution. Surprised Davies didn't have it in him. Sorry for Ruby and the new Doctor. It's going to be a rocky ride. Although it did made me rewatch Zoolander. Ncuti would've given Zoolander competition in a Walk Off. @@DoctorWhoManiaProductions23
It is definitely people throwing around the word "woke". @@shanajeangedeon9060 it definitely does I guess the word “woke” has lost its real meaning just like “racist” and “nazi” has and even “trans”. I guess the issue is that most folk tune in to be entertained not to be lectured to. There is a difference.

@@shanajeangedeon9060 transgender used to mean a person that went through a process through permanently living and eventually through surgery to become the opposite sex to that into which they were born. Now it encompasses any person that decides they are another sex and think slipping into the clothing of the opposite sex, adopting a bit of makeup and giving themselves a new name makes them trans. As to the other point you felt the need to elaborate on around racism, you lost me but your use of the specific term “white” clearly indicates you have a personal dog on this fight and are clearly racist yourself given that your statement “what white people do” lumps an entire race into a generalisation. If I were to make such a sweeping generalisation or assign certain characteristics to an entire race I would of course be ripped to shreds for my unconscious bias; you clearly have a significant amount of that going on in your own mind.
Least it was still not a poor episode and if this is the sort of doctor and companion we are going to be riding with on these oncoming adventures well, on their own Ncuti has his own unmistakable flamboyance with great distinct personality as the Doctor and Millie playing Ruby equally lights up the screen and an extremely likeable character...but there is certainly a great chemistry with them as doctor and companion so, think RTD has done good and we are set for some great months ahead from May 🙂
The episode was very moffat like. Even the cracks of time we have here I love it
Makes sense because RTD and Moffat are quite similar in a way
@@JoshLStuff I think now RTD is more inspired by season 5. He was very hard sci Fi in season 1 to 4

Fun fact, there was an ancient civilization that wrote their language in ropes
A bit of my aged soul died when you called the LEGENDARY Anita Dobson a shit actress 😭
I love that his gloves helped him catch the baby.
RIP Richard Franklin (Mike Yates in classic Who), died Christmas Day 2023
It was promising, but the pacing was all over the place imo. It never seemed to stay consistent and the energy and tension was just jumping around and dropping at very awkward spots. The future season trailer looked brilliant though, and I can imagine Ncuti and Millie having such an easy time slipping into their roles permanently
*Gets drunk and makes jokes the whole time while barely paying attention* "I wonder why this episode isn't hitting emotionally".
If you look at their previous reactions they don’t seem to have a clue what’s going o, maybe they are new to the show 🤣
I mean couldn’t be more wrong but thanks for the watch time sweetie 😘
There's also a speculation that the old woman is The Rani from classic who because she is the only one who can break the 4th wall
Some things weren't perfect, but overall a good start to what I will affectionally call Fabulous Fifteen's era
#FabulousFifteen #DoctorWho :D
Mate, you have so much potential to make it big on YT. I wish you and Sophie all the best.
Second this, love the channel
I really enjoyed this Christmas special. I have a theory that Ruby is her own mum or that her mum is from a different time period. Im probably wrong but I’m throwing it out there lol
Maybe her mum is actually The Doctor's female incarnation!
How could she possibly be her own mum, do you understand biology?

Really glad I watched this one with my 6 year old cus - she'd never watched Doctor Who before. It was noot the best, fun but missed most its beats, but from a kids perspective it was the greatest thing of all time haha so that elevated things for me.
The woman in the bed is Yolanda trueman Patrick’s wife from eastenders
Mrs Flood will be very important in the coming season!
How could you hate Anita Dobson... Shame on you
I also saw the comment saying RTD must eat babies because of the Goblin Song, and I’m like “have you never heard of the concept of a villain song?” 😂
Im already liking this doctor/companion duo
I don't think plot is necessarily important for this episode. I think it's just a daft, fun episode to introduce the new companion and for us to see how her and the doctor bond before the real series starts.
So the old woman you disliked was in eastenders and is married to brian may.
I love Sophie's McFly T-shirt. 😁🤘
I understand the cut made it look that way, but don’t tell me that dudes acting was a 10/10 😂
I was gonna say- the lady is pretty good imo. I loved the camera stare haha
Should say Colin Baker did sing during one of the Big Finish audios
Colin Baker was singing for Doctor Who long before Big Finish, for Doctor in Distress.
@@HOTD108_ i meant the character of the Doctor. I guess I should have clarified he sang in character and in a licensed production
Or is Mrs Flood a Time Meddler? I'd bet not, but it would be a nice Hartnell call back.
I liked your reaction after you criticized the angry woke brigade, but then you called Anita Dobson a sh*t actor, and I had to retract 😂
That woman could be The RANI.
The Doctor Who fandom is, and always has been, one of the most progressive, diverse, and accepting out there.
@@DannyTDW Also your constant shit talking of Mrs Flood's actress is actually insane calling her a "shit actress" from 1 episode in which she actually did nothing but create a vague character that I'm sure we'll find out more about in the later season is actually criminal.

Personally I've always felt that Russel T Davies, while a great showrunner, can be a bit of a mixed bag as a writer.
his specials have never been AMAZING, he always did best with the loose season arcs and finales imo
I agree about the pacing and shot compositions
I’m so glad it was enjoyable. First time I’ve not bothered. Having followed the show from its first broadcast in 1963 and stuck with it, Jodie killed it. I thought the 60th anniversary was last chance. It let me down so much I decided that’s it. Hope it carries on being as good as this appears to be. Time for you lot to put in the years!!
Bye fake fan 👋🖕
Small comment but please don’t blame Jodie. Jodie is a wonderful actress who has fed absolute scraps, it is the fault of the writers not the actress. She gets so much hate when she didn’t do anything wrong
@@dustinmartin6524 fair comment I’ve never liked her as an actress she always seems to play herself in every role but that’s a personal view.
Well this reaction is 50% bullshit. Sophie, fair play reacts. The "guy" is acting up.
Acting up? It’s almost like I’m making a video or something 🤔🤔🧐

Hope that's not a spoiler! Lol
In some universe that this is real, I am all for for it 😂. It’s so stupid it might actually work
The pacing was soo fast, way too many loose ends.
I fucking hate the whole "Mavity" joke. Yeah when they first did it I thought it was a bit silly but its going to become real boring real fast.
So you want them to ignore that they changed history and go back to say "gavity"? I swear, some people are just looking for something to complain about.
@@Blackbohnstergaming I'm not "just looking for something to complain about" - just thought it was a stupid "joke" in the first place.
I agree with you.
Needed something epic to punctuate the new doctor, pretty crap episode imo
But I’m glad you actually critiqued things
Mrs Flood was terrible and took away from what was a fun action packed episode.
Are you even a doctor who fan 😭🤣
Yes, that's why the episode was disappointing. Good ideas, elementary execution. Surprised Davies didn't have it in him. Sorry for Ruby and the new Doctor. It's going to be a rocky ride. Although it did made me rewatch Zoolander. Ncuti would've given Zoolander competition in a Walk Off. @@DoctorWhoManiaProductions23
Love that comment back in 2005!!! Btw it’s not the “woke” as you seem to think it’s the fact that they just keep changing the lore to suit.
It is definitely people throwing around the word "woke". Literally, just looking up Doctor Who reactions had at least 3 different videos show up that were about "Doctor Who abandoned its fans by going woke"(or similar titles), there were a truly disappointing amount of videos on tiktok of people throwing tantrums while ALSO throwing the word "woke" around, and I couldn't imagine how bad it must be on Twitter since Twitter somehow always attracts the worst of the worst.
@@shanajeangedeon9060 it definitely does I guess the word “woke” has lost its real meaning just like “racist” and “nazi” has and even “trans”. I guess the issue is that most folk tune in to be entertained not to be lectured to. There is a difference.
@@ianpeddle6818 How has Trans lost its meaning? As far as I know, that still just means transgender
Edit: Racist hasn't lost its meaning either, as far as I know, unless you're talking about when white people do that thing where they say a POC worker was "being racist to them" over something they likely started(which has happened far more often than I thought was possible😅)
Chips on shoulders are never a good thing as they impede progress and prevent your mind from fitting into different ideas.
