Thanks for the tutorial Derek! For every OCTANE user: to color this scene create a Mix material in Node Editor, then create two materials- one you will use for waves (mograph) and one for static cubes. Add them to your Mix material and for mixing choose node Mg Color Shader and connect it to the Amount (which is basically rule of mixing). Go to the Plain Parameter and choose for color mode Effector color and for blending mode Subtract. Despite the fact that Im not sure copy-pasting is the right way to make multiple waves, anyway do it for every copy-pasted effector. Should work. Cheers =)
How to do this using R26. 2:10 change the mode from per step to endpoint 2:21 Change the Y value to 20 and don't change the Z 4:20 Change the Y value to 5 and change the Z to 0 6:13 Go into your render settings and change the renderer from Standard to Redshift if it isn't already or you won't be able to access redshift materials 7:34 You'll have to click onto the Node Editor... button at the bottom of the Base Properties to start modifying the material 7:45 You can't drag in other materials. Add a reference node. To do this, click on the plus icon in the top left and type for it in the search window that pops up. Double click on it. Once added into the node window, click on that node and drag your material into the material panel in the settings on the attribute window on bottom right. Do the same for the 2nd material. 8:34 Select the Alt Input as the input 9:21 Select the Layer 1 Material Color 10:10 Also change the Plane from XZ to XY 11:06 First go into your render settings and add Redshift Post-Effects listed under Effect... or just right click on the left bar to add it. Now click onto it to the view the settings. Go into the Bokeh tab and click Enable. Now add a Redshift Camera tag to your camera by right clicking on it and go under Camera Tags. 11:26 Change the Derive From Camera setting to Focus Distance -Take my advice in the render settings with a grain of salt because my knowledge is very limited- 11:56 go into your render settings and click on Redshift Post-Effects to find these settings 12:06 Photographic exposure is under just Exposure 12:36 Make sure to go into the Advanced mode settings. GI is Global Illumination 12:50 I *think* these are the trace depths under the Globals Tab 12:57 Go under the Sampling tab and twirl down the Filter field? I didn't get an exact look but this will get you close. Hope it helps.
Im sorry, but it seems like this tutorial is now outdated. I did everything up to the part 1:54, and I just have a completely different result. Its more spread out than held together. I have the exact same settings as you. Its probably because Im using S24.
Any thoughts on why (in C4D 2024.2) the material blender doesn't seem to work? I have what appear to be the equivalent connections (from shader graph to node editor), but in my scene, only the base material shows up: even if I use a random maxon noise for the blend color, it's like there is no Layer 1 at all. (I am pretty much an extreme newcomer to C4D, so it's entirely possible I've overlooked something.)
Give the project file a try, if it works fine then you might need to tweak your setup, if it doesnt work it might be because of a change Maxon implimented (has been a lot of changes and bugs in v2024)
Good tutorial overall. Thanks for this. But I have certain things to convey. Always loved the way Dave was teaching. Not just here but in SkillShare as well. But with this one, I really did miss him. Although this was a nice tutorial, I couldn't find the usual explanatory nature of Daves's teaching here. Didn't have a clue on why Derek did certain things as he didn't explain much. It gave me a lot of confusing moments and hence I felt that this was a bit hard to follow. Even the way he was talking seemed like he's in a hurry, probably because he wanted to keep the tutorial length below 20 minutes. Hope in the coming tutorials, this will be taken into account. Maybe all this is because I'm used to Dave's way of teaching, I didn't find this one as helpful as the other CGShortcuts! Thanks again for these tutorials. Cheers!
the cloner keeps aligning the shape in the vertical axis, do you perhaps know why all my values are exactly the same as yours except the fact that the grid array cloned the shape vertically instead of horizontally :(
@David Tavan It looks like a video editing issue from the CGSC guy. He rotates the rectangle -90º, but when he applies the Extrude the rectangle is back to it's original horizontal position. Basically, to get the same grid array as him don't bother doing the -90º rotation on the rectangle.
Hi @DoomsDayFortress Is your scene set up in cm as the units? If your units are inches or feet etc. it might be the cause. I just tested the scene in R23 and it works, so I don't think it's that.
Same, seems the tutorial is outdated a bit. The Extrude and Cloner Object menus look completely different in R23. Edit: thank you for the effort though.
@@nikitapashinsky It is in R20, but rest assured there is no difference in the workflow between the versions. As long as you have R20 and up you can follow along. Thanks. Also, I just purchased R23, so all future tutorials will be the most up to date version.

Hi quick question around 12:56 you mentioned you increased unified sampling because you have DoF. So if i'm not using any depth of field in my scene how much min/max sample would you recommend to save render time?

This fails when trying it in a MoText object. It fades every letter simultaneously instead of sequentially as the falloff moves near it. Redshift 3.0.51 / C4D S24.111. This may be a new issue since they moved the MoText object into the Primitives menu from the MoGraph menu. I would test this in R23 but Redshift won't even load on any older versions. Neither C4D with native materials or Redshift can offer a simple or reliable setup for such a simple effect.

it's a nice technique but the guy keep just talking numbers not really explaining well why he's doing what he's doing.. for example when he adds the delay and the decay.. he doesn't show what each field is doing. Seems like he was rushing just to add the value he already knew and finish it up. I prefer the other tutor
As you add each effector, turn one off and see what the other does and vice versa. Though they're not the most straight forward names they do make some sense: Delay - Slows down action so that it doesn't happen right away. As the torus animates over the rectangles it's effect doesn't happen until a little after. Decay - Slows down the action from going back to normal. After the torus passes over the rectangles and the effect is created, the rectangles won't go back to their original state as fast as they normally would. Not trying to be a smart ass, just helping out in case you didn't know what the effectors did :)
