A chord is a combination of at least two notes that are played simultaneously, creating a fuller, richer sound than can be achieved by playing each note individually. Most chords involve at least three notes played together, while some may use even more. Also, chords usually involve playing multiple strings at the same time, which is called strumming.

This video is incorrect. An F#m7b5 consists of the notes: F# (root), A (3rd), C (flatted 5th), and E (7th). The notes of the chord shape shown in this video are: F#, A, F, B, D#, and G#, which does not produce an F#m7b5 chord. Interestingly enough, if you take the chord shape shown above and slide your 2nd finger up one fret (a half step) to the F# on the 4th fret of the D string, and your ring (3rd) and pinky (4th) finger up a half step to the C (on the 5th fret of the G string), E (on the 5th fret of the B string), and A (on the 5th fret of the high E string), you will have a proper F#m7b5 chord. A better way to finger this chord in this particular position on the fret board would be: first finger on the F# (2nd fret of the low E), no fingers on the open A (or 5th string), ring finger on the F# (4th fret of the D string), and pinky finger baring the C (5th fret of the G string) E (5th fret of the B string) and A (5th fret of the high E string).

The easiest and most traditional fingering of this chord shape however = putting your first finger on the F# of the 9th fret A string, ring finger on the C of the 10th fret of the D string, middle finger on the E of the 9th fret of the G string, and your pinky on the A of the 10th fret of the B string. While the open high and low E strings could be played for this chord (as the E is the 7th in the F#m7b5 chord), the open strings are generally muted and not played regarding this moveable chord shape.

Incorrect chord demonstrated but close. The 3 high strings need to be barred at the fifth fret. And the rest is ok - open A and 2nd fret of low E string. Like the tip about using the pinkie for more power.
    F#m7b5

i enjoy mahalo videos, but being a guitarist I have to say this is not an efficient way to learn chords, especially with there often being advertisements before vids and the 5 second introduction. much easier to look at a chord chart

A really rich voicing for the F#7b5 would be first finger on C first fret 2nd string, 2nd finger on A, second fret third string, and pinky on F# 4th fret (D string). You can leave all the other strings open and it sounds really lush (004210 or E A F# A C E)

Thank you, that chords sounds great. Would that be the 7 chord for the key of Gmaj?

Don't mean to be picky, but I just wanna let you know that if you call it F#mb5, you're really calling it F# diminished.

The chord illustration doesn’t match your fingering. In addition, it’s wrong.
