I love that there are some people who will remake the kick from scratch every time and some people who are like "I've been using the same kick sample for 20 years in every track."
Interesting you mentioned this. I've been strugglin' for some 15 years to not use the same kick in my tracks but found myself always using the same 5 or 6 kick samples. Now I'm like "fvck it, it works and that's all that matters".

I ve been using my "kick designer" rack for every track for years now.
It is a rack i made for operator specifically to have my "signature" kick but still be able to change it slightly when needed.

I've been messing around with this technique for a few days now (I have FL Studio so I use 3xosc for that). Every basis of a kick is just a sinewave with extremely fast pitch modulation. Either way, it's fun to do and you get some really unique-sounding kicks out of it. This video did give me some additional tips on how to go about processing. Top notch stuff as usual. Thanks!

Extremely close to how i do my own kicks. Real difference here is that i use operator for everything and i never use eq3. That actually supresed me.

The best way I understand the EQ 3 as he uses it, is that it acts like a crossover on a speaker. The crossover changes where the sounds are played from the tweeter (tiny speaker on top) and the woofer (big speaker on bottom). So in this example, essentially EQ 3 kind of lets you move how low frequencies are moving. It’s almost like a filtering effect. Great video!
That speaker example is a good way to put it!
It's basically just changing the phase between the crossovers, so not the best method actually
@@lucmermans37 Ok, but unlike the Utility plugin you actually choose the frequency of the low or the “freq hi”.. so it’s not just the phase you’re altering.
@@tuffycampbell the phase of the mid band gets inverted. So you can set the crossovers for that
@@lucmermans37 For the utility plugin? It has one Eq point and thats for the bass crossover, but again thats just one and that determines where the bass becomes mono. What are you talking about?
if you use that steep of a filter, its just a sine wave at the end. so you can use just an synth with a sine. It´s faster with the same result.

If I want a Deep Low Kick with sub & a high crispy bass with no sub does the bass still need SUB if the kick has it already ?
the reason eq 3 does that is because it has a 3 band split with allpass filters, i think

For me the main point of this video is actually having the tools/techniques to fix up a kick that is almost there.

0:19 - I tried that and that is not the result I got. How did you get the tone from the crackle knob? All I get is crackle.
The signal comes from the autofilter self resonating after any input signal triggers it. So copy that
I followed all the steps (with slight differences just in numbers)
and the kick I made has like an artifact at the end of it, the initial thump is followed by a little tick
