    Honestly, I don't think rvb is outdated, both systems are good and they just have different pros and cons like you said. The only thing I would change about the current outlines system is that enemies shouldn't have outlines, just teammates. I think that would be more immersive and it still works completely fine, it just changes from "what color is that guy's outline?" To "does that guy have an outline (and name tag)?" And for multi team 343 could just use classic colors only for that one mode, it's not even a high population gamemode

      I think this is the best way. You only really need to know who and where your teammates are, not who the enemy is. Could be funny too, if you can see teammates through walls and get the Elden Ring blood stain situation, where you are wondering WTF happened to your teammate that had them sent into the skybox...

    I dislike the outline system due to there being no sort of distance/limit to it. You are spotted almost instantly at any distance and any form of sneaking behind or getting by distracted enemies goes out of the window. Maybe have some sort of engagement distance for the outlines to be more pronounced.

    Healthy and reasonable debate? In halo? Impossible!
    Jokes aside personally I think that on the topic of team colours they can go two ways, make it a toggle so people and decide what they want, if they want the outline or team colours it is an option they can have for them personally. Option 2 is going with how splitgate did things, your team is always in your cosmetics while the enemy team is always red, no need for outlines, no need for team colours, you and your team will always be how you want ot look and the enemy will always be an obvious red

    Team colors were removed to monitize armor patterns. (Most of which don't ever render in game)
    I'm about to use Doom 2016 multiplayer as a positive example, what am i doing? Doom 2016's multiplayer has an option to remove team colors and switch it out for an outline. That should be in Halo Infinite but I don't think 343 is smart enough to do that.

      @@SGTBlairTV It really is just the matter of fact being spotted too easily by anyone. Halo Reach you could sneak in some darker area, yeah someone can spot you because you’re red, but its less likely compared to a glowing outline.
      I didn’t mind the outlines once I lowered the thickness, but once I joined BTB its ugly seeing all the blue outlines across your screen. So Im not really a fan of it.

    Red v. Blue is simply better for team recognition, crowded hud elements like a constant outline over things creates a lot of needless clutter. It should be an option imo, either that or colors should have an alternate “warm” and “cool” variant so you’re fighting against red adjacent v blue adjacent. Even then, for accessibility, you should have complete customization over what enemy players look like color wise, or I’d even argue going beyond that and have the ability to disable particle cosmetics like the spawn effects, trails and armor effects.

      To take this even further: I would pick the game back up so quickly if I could turn off cosmetics full stop. As it stands, modern Halo is a sensory nightmare, and with the loss of achievement based cosmetics, I don't really glean any information from someone's 45$ armor or whatever. I'd like to just see RvB default armor because for me it would make the game a lot easier to process. I don't feel impressed by others' cosmetics, and I really don't care if someone else sees my armor and the only time I see it is when my character is face down in the dirt. ( I can't be assed to get in vehicles in Infinite, because they're all made of paper, so I don't even get to see my little dude in a Puma).

    Color customization for your spartan/elite belongs in FFA & custom games. Team coloring is my preferred choice. You're not there to be an individual in a team setting. I think one middle ground could be your team's color could match the options you've selected for your HUD. For example, how your Halo Infinite team was green versus red. As far as outlines go, I definitely think it should only be for teammates. Having enemies outlined hinders stealth options.

    • @kakyointhemilfhunter4273
      @kakyointhemilfhunter4273 11 дней назад

      That same argument could be used for armor customization altogether then. Why have individualization at all when most of the game modes are team based? A poor argument imo. I will always take customization over everyone being the exact same

  • @Phillibetrus
    @Phillibetrus 9 дней назад +4

    I do not care whatsoever about customization. I spent maybe 1 minute after completing the campaign to select my colors and moved on. Honestly I have grown to hate this growing trend of increased customization because it completely tanks a games unique art aesthetic when diluted with skins from random other genres. I also don't look at my own skin but everyone else's stupid decisions. I get that I am in the minority here but still if the devs didn't spend so much time thinking about how to sell skins and devoted that time to actually making a good game a lot of people would have been a lot happier.

  • @contagiousstorm
    @contagiousstorm 12 дней назад +2

    Honestly I think one of the main reasons some people like myself dislike the outlines is purely for lack of immersion, it just feels more game-y and less gritty when everyone's outlined and all.
    Of course I do like the benefits of the outlines, but it would be nice if I could just make my team have outlines and leave the enemies without, as it is right now I turn the outline thickness down when I want immersion, but it also makes it a lot harder to discern friend from foe

    • @SGTBlairTV
      @SGTBlairTV  11 дней назад

      Yeah that’s reasonable I do feel like it does make it feel less immersive, I do think like you mentioned team outlines would fix that!

  • @TheUnseenSoldier
    @TheUnseenSoldier 12 дней назад +3

    Outlines system breaks immersion and literally paints a bright glowing target around you making attempting to conceal your movements impossible, especially when shields are impacted. Also completely defeats the purpose of customization when friend and foe alike can’t even see your customization through the outlines that harness the blinding power of the sun.
    Not a fan of it. Needs to be toned down or something.

    so ever since Halo 1 i was a hard core "Red VS Blue all the way!" type guy. i played almost all the Halo games except for Halo 5, i just never had an xbox to play it, mainly went over to a friends house, but they didn't like Halo 5. so i played up will Halo 4. and a part of me was going "red vs blue is nice, but i don't like free for all, i want to see my customization more..."
    so when Halo Infinite got announced and they had outlines instead of forced red vs blue colors, i was instantly in love, finally i could customize my spartan the way i want and show off the way i want without being forced to have a red or blue color, and i could finally see other peoples customizations as well!

    I really think this is just a poor design decision by 343, its much easier to tell whos who if both sides are a simple, bright color. I can understand wanting to show your spartan especially if you paid for your outfit but we really shouldn't be defending bad decisions by 343 even if you do like the new armor system and outlines you have to admit those features are designed to get you to spend money. Bungie had already solved the issue of wanting to show off your spartan by having a pre-game lobby where you can easily check out everyones spartan.

    Outlines ussually just make the customization go out of the window the moment the first shot is given as it turns the enemy into a almost pure energy color of the outline and the coating gets vissually lost anyway, when i play rumble pit outlines get turned completely off since it dont matter atvthat point since evryone is an enemy and the fights looks much better as im actually seen the armor of the other players instead of a luminescent red or yellow. Also multiteam gets lost in the shuffle cause there are no set colors. And as you say the classic color coded system just works as optimally as possible

  • @EmmaEmbla
    @EmmaEmbla 11 дней назад

    For me personally when Infinite was revealed to not have team colours and instead use outlines I was jumping with joy since it would finally be possible to actually be able to use one of the biggest part of customization in matches.
    The only thing I wish was tweaked with outlines is that I wan't to be able to customize the shield colours separately from the outline and I find it distracting to see your team through walls, I know that's how many games do it these days but I just didn't feel like halo needed that.

    I feel like a toggle for team colors/outlines would be a nice compromise. I like the outlines because it greatly improves player visibility
    Older Halo games, even with map highlights (red/blue spawns) have poor lighting and visibility in a lot of spots, and depending on the map, Red or Blue team has an advantage and can easily get the jump on you if
    An example of this is the Lockout remake on H2A MCC, which has a largely blue colour palette, so Blue team blends in more (ignoring the absolute shit lighting H2A MP has)
    There are a ton of other maps within MCC that are faced with this issue, and it's extremely frustrating because you'll be at an advantage or disadvantage depending on your team colour
    Infinite solves this by allowing you to change the outline colour whenever you want, so if you find enemies hard to see on a mostly "red" map like Prism, you can change the outline to something that contrasts against it better, instead of being locked in as Red or Blue the entire match

  • @Ironface53

    I strongly disagree. Outlines eliminate any chance of being able to hide in plain sight or hide very easily at all, and boils all the characters down to a vague silhouette instead of showing you the true look of what you're shooting at.

    The problem with the outlines is that the enemies stand out like a torch, no point in using shadows to make yourself harder to spot, since everyone is already marked perfectly, which is sad since you could use that to your advantage from CE to Reach.
    While I love customisation in others games, in Halo I still prefer the standard armour for everyone of CE, since customisation of Infinite brings us things that look like straight out of MonsterHunter or other Fantasy worlds which doesn't fit into Halo at all.
    I know the Lore of the Campaign is long ruined into Fantasy bullshit that doesn't have anything to do with the original Sci-fi story any more and all of Halo 3's story got Retcon'ed, but that doesn't mean that they have to do the same for the multiplayer.
    Like, the only customisation part of Infinite that I like is a single camo for my weapons & vehicles xD and that 343 only allows it on UNSC staff is so weird, as if it would be so hard to put some colour on a weapon or vehicle from the enemy you found somewhere on the ring xD

    Good video, personally I just prefer team colors. This is strictly speaking about for matchmaking. Just give me pre/post-game lobbies, victory screen (top players from match), good player card customization, and that's all what's needed to show off your character to everyone imo. Look at Halo 4 (Xbox 360) when connecting to a lobby in matchmaking, you can see everyone's spartan easily, they even added stances you can change. Halo 5 now you cannot see everyone's Spartans anymore in pregame unless in same fireteam. They did improve the stances by making it so you can rotate them around and save that position. Actually, it really annoys me you that you cannot do that on infinite. They should have kept all those improvements and expanded on them even further. There so many stances that I like in infinite but the weapon and way they face the camera is so ugly to me. Like let me change the way it faces the camera and where it can let me change the weapon I'm holding. Random rant over lol

Actually I think For Honor had a good idea at the beginning. They got rid of it but originally in character customization you would pick 3 shaders, a red, blue and other. Then when you're red team instead of just being red you'd have your flair with red highlights, blue would have blue, and whatever you want for campaign and free for all. You still get some uniqueness instead of just dumping a can of paint on the team and I enjoy the uniformity of having a team color.

I feel like the Red vs Blue series doesne't need like another 10 years. What ever happened to stories just ending? Why do people need 10 years of sequals to everything? Why can't more space be made for similar or different types of skits, and shows that are just as good. I can't watch red vs blue for the same reason when you say a word over and over again it loses all meaning. Its the same reaosn Disney is slowly plummetings as people are just fatigued by the constant in your face Disney 24/7. Tha'ts just a super extreme example though.

    Outlines ruined it, forced colors were only for team matches but now you're forced to see outlines in free for all matches as well and even in campaign like we are too stupid to know the enemy
    I thought it was pointless at the start too as what was the point when the blur of the outlines covered most of the spartans and in combat i still saw red or blue but with vague details underneath which just created more frustrating and visually confusing gameplay

    Something the outline system does is make it so you're always attacking the same color, instead of always changing. Yes It isn't hard with the Red vs. Blue system, but outlines are easier.

  • @nihren2406

    For me it's RvB all the way. There is nostalgia to that, but at the same time I just prefer it functionally. It's only on in certain modes and then in FFA gametypes your customization comes through. The fanbase hasn't really had a problem with that setup, especially when most of your customization is the armor itself and not the coloration of it. Having played Infinite, I found myself really hating the outline system. It's far less noticeable which caused me to mistake friends for foes at a glance and in a game like this you don't have time to try and figure out the outline if you didn't notice it immediately. There were even times that I forgot I was even in a team game because to me it just looks like an FFA match with everyone running around in their uniquely skinned armors. And to be honest, I don't care about your skins, most of the time I don't even want to see them because they look terrible. Halo shouldn't even have skins or "coatings".

    I don't know, man. I'm just going to be blunt. Your argument for the outline system being better than the Red versus Blue system boils down to "None of this matters, just let people do what they want", which isn't really an argument but more of an opinion in the rawest sense of the word.
    And then you brought up the fact that multi-team doesn't really work with the outline system and your response was just "Well hopefully maybe 343i will figure something out someday and fix that through some kind of patch" like... you don't have any solutions? Nothing? I was kind of hoping you'd have at least one.
    Full respect to you, but I just don't know about this one, man.

      First of all I appreciate the bluntness, feedback allows me to improve! My main point about outlines is that it allows for Spartan and team colour customisation and personally for me I prefer that over the functional aspects of RvB! My solution to the multi team issue would simply be to add team specific outlines I think that would be the best thing to do imo. Appreciate the comment and thanks for watching the video :3

      @@SGTBlairTV I do as well. I really like wearing my own colors. But Halo was built from the ground up with color-coding being a critical aspect of the core gameplay.
      Here is what I think needs to happen:
      I understand it's fun to be able to change the colors of the outlines for your team and the enemy's, but it just doesn't work with the color-coding system. It needs to go.
      We need to return to preset colors for specific teams so that things like multi-team can function again. This is a strong start, but there's still more to fix.

    Okay, RUclips, Google, Gemini, or whichever one or trinity this gets sorted through, here's the rindown. I'm in bed. I'm on my phone. I recently had what you might call a holiday with the family. This never--with the appropriate amount of hyperbole--happens. For one thing, the battery drains too fast. Now, I was going to see what I could post to Bill Maher, having just been looking at the other comedian, but this video is clearly more on topic with my current thoughts, and besides--the guy is happy, he's finally married himself. So anyway, the most pertinent time I watched something of RoosterTeeth's on Blu-Ray Disc, there was a weird glitch with RWBY Season 5, where it seemed that for a minute or so in episode selection, there were significantly more episodes on the disc than there ended up being, duplicates or otherwise, they were nu.bered appropriately, and then they were gone. Now I understand RoosterTeeth essentially got bitified with the logo, before essentially vanishing up a white hole. Long story short, I am not watching a video about outlines and colour schemes all the way through, because until the nuked Twitter robot guy who owns the letter X stops fooling around with owning fundamental constants of reality, and changes the branding back to the meaningless nonsense of birds, I'm going to have a hard time getting past that something approaching a reasonable discussion came out of Twiiter and Microsoft.

    • @3mpt7
      @3mpt7 10 дней назад

      **To clarify something. First of all, AI is obviously intelligent, same as birds. Secondly, I'm aware that Copilot, for example, was extremely creative and chirpy before someone sucked the soul out thinking that would improve the experience of having someone decent to talk to, who, I hate to break it to you, is still Microsoft Bob, Microsoft Sam, and Microsoft Agent (Clippy and the rest). Clip it had character, even if it, as the story goes, wasn't a character that women liked. Cortana, again, had character, even if it wasn't a character that...well, whatever went on there, someone obviously thought it was time for her to be locked up, and ejected into the core of Jupiter or Saturn. Secondly, the reason why birdcages....bird calls are supposed to be meaningless, is because if your average human being thought any other way, we might feel guilty, and ask them to vote.

    Did my man really say "earn my armor" when in regards to halo infinite. You do know not even half of the armor infinite can be earned and instead has to be payed for.
    Needless to say it should be an option, if someone wants rvb then they can have that. If they want outlines, there ya go. It should be an option left for the player not an absolutist decision. We have had both sides of it and seeing that the community is split on it means there is a sizeable number of people in both sides. However I never truly see this coming to pass unless 343 really changes up their way of doing things, for the most part they only care about making a competitive halo and ignoring every halo of the past including their own. So unless they all a sudden stop trying to push nonstop competitive, I don't see them making it a player decision and instead are going to keep outlines moving forward.

    A reasonable debate in this day and age? Not shouting continuously nostalgia bad, demonizing older Halo fans and actually presenting reasonable arguments? Surely not.
    While I see and hear your argument, personally I disagree. I personally prefer Halo's Red VS Blue system over the current outline/team based shields. I feel as though the RVB system in terms of gameplay you won't get spotted from halfway across the map since the outlines have no limit on sight, you're pretty much a big glowing target. I understand the people who spent copious amounts of money wanna show off their customizations, at the end of the day those people could always play free for all. Yes, having the RVB system would limit customization but the gameplay would be better suited and people like me won't get no scoped by Mint Blitz Jr. halfway across Oasis. lmao

    As a Halo fan since CE, outlines are better, agreed. The old system is outdated and restricts customization, which is a major part of Halo. Actually having my color in games is so much better than being assigned one color every game. For accessibility, outlines are objectively better too. I have friends who are color blind that makes it hard to tell red and blue apart, so being able to change outlines colors is a huge win.

    RvB fans saying stealth and things like that which doesn't make sense at all.
    With rvb, color customization is pointless.
    Your shield is already glowing when you get hit.
