- Guy Martin is a British motorcycle racer and truck mechanic. Primarily a man of the road, he's one of the World's most talented riders and a constant favourite at the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy. Worldwide recognition through TT3D showed him at his witty and charismatic best, with his TV debut on BBC One's The Boat that Guy Built taking him to the mainstream. A man obsessed with industrial processes and the intricacies of manufacturing, Cut Media thought he'd be the ideal candidate for an Orange Bikes factory documentary...

Guy Martin is one of those guys where you just want to buy him a beer and listen to him. Whatever he's got to say, it's gonna be interesting.
Kind of like James May, but a bit less 1950's.
poop
fenderstratguy kinda like Nile rodgers ;) if youre strat enough..!
Thelunatic Loggers Im not a huge Nile Rogers fan
fenderstratguy yeah but he answers everything with a story, and a stratocaster
18 people didn't like it 'cause they work at Halfords.
So.. Do they only make half ford's over at that place? Eeehehehehe
8 years later this is still funny.
This is what Halfords try to convince you goes into your "premium quality £135 dual suspension mountain bike with front disc brake" pmsl ^_^
Guy is a total legend, and even though he's super-intelligent, his boy-ish inquisitive style of asking not just "how?" but also "why?" about everything makes for a very natural presenter style that I'm not sure he even realises he has. Major respect for him staying true and saying "look, I'm just Guy, I don't want to be a pro bike racer or a TV presenter" though. It's your life marra, live it. :)
Over a quarter of a million people ...watching blokes do welding. AWESOME!
Over half now pal
Over 3/4 of a million now ...
We're really just a bunch of nerds haha
Guy:The Yorkshire accent hasn’t rubbed on you bough as it ?
Worker : as it bollox no !
8:55 ....I think it has mate hahahah
Fred Dibnah mk2
I said that to my mrs the other day
Love to watch Fred’s videos. I really enjoy watching the zeal he had both for chimneys and steam engines. Guy is a furtherance of Fred’s type of zeal!
My thoughts for years
That is incredibly high praise, and 100% accurate.
Lol
Guys a top bloke. He's like a new generation Fred Dibnah!
We need these guys so much!
Anything mechanical or owt like that!
Guys your man!
i was just thinkin old Fred Dibnah! Niice!
The shop has a talented decorator! A+
If Wolverine and Sponge Bob had a baby
Haha, nice!
A. Random Aaaaaaah that’s good ,made me chuckle 😂🇬🇧🏍❤️🌈
Ha!
hes like Fred Dibnah's nephew or summit
Monocoque: structural approach that supports loads through an object's external skin, similar to an egg shell.
I have the orange five black and gold model it’s a stunning colour way honestly and only 100 of them frames were made they’re beautiful
if you put in 50% slow mo, you can actually understand him LOL
Felipe Luiz Dickmann hahahaha
I've watched enough of his videos to be fluent in the Guyish language.
Felipe Luiz Dickmann maybe your just slow pal 🤷♂️
@@davidholgate5472 Ain't no maybe about it.
A lad makes a joke and people insult him.. well done boys. Be proud of your selves
There is something that makes me really want an orange bike, but I can't really tell what it is.
great show, i'd watch paint dry if guy was presenting it
+PFinty It was powder coat
C4 have pulled a master stroke with Guy, they have created a Dibnah for a new generation! Ali TIG welding is not an easy skill to master, I can do stainless, mild and even Ti all day but Ali is a bitch, Guy managed to avoid blowing a hole in that piece so not a bad effort for first time. Was a bit surprised he didn't know about powder coating though! Have to say though, I'll stick with my Cannondale thanks!
Guy is an interesting character, I just wish I understood the words that are coming out of his mouth!
guy is the modern day equivalent of the legendary bolton steeplejack mr fred dibner
Less is more so give me a 30 speed lol
Haha! Yes, nobody contradicts themselves quite like Guy...
yeah great music
Guy is the epitome of the Great British Eccentric ... and he doesn't give a f***
Absolutely, he is to engineering what Sheldon Cooper is to theoretical physics - well and truly on the spectrum and a complete engineering geek. Top Man!
- more like Richard Feynman
seriously sound Guy is, met him on a Easyjet flight years ago before all the tv, no one knew him. I chatted away, great guy.
Great to see as an Irish man a British made product, making local jobs!!!!! Come on :)
He's from grimsby lol
He never said he wasn't from Grimsby? Lol strange...
He’s from Kirmington, near Grimsby in North Lincolnshire .....
"Can I take that with me?" ahaha. So good to see genuine enthusiasm from a presenter. Cheers Guy, and Orange.
Just bought an Orange Clockwork 120. Nice to see where it came from. Surprised that a fly on the wall type documentary/presentation kept the workshop art in place. Respect.
hate u! Had one, sold it, gutted!
....actually, the more I think about it, YESSS!! Logan with Guy Martin's attitude and voice....SOMEBODY do that X-Men remake!! ;D
Always loved Orange bikes 👍🏼👏👏
I must admit that our Guy is my all time favourite semi celebrity, his passion for engineering goes way beyond anyone else's grasp and I really take my hat off to him.
I don't know whether it's because I'm from the potteries but I never struggle to understand him.
Good old working men's banter...love it mate.
Get well soon Guy.
+Manila Crit It looks too many shades of beige out there, but I'm optimistic there'll always be a pocket of male banter the PC drips won't beigize with their humourless touch.
+Michael Edwards there will, at the job centre ;)
Orange bikes........ £££££££££££ for a decent build
I'm proud to be a stone's throw away from Orange Bikes and Hope Tech. Seeing world cup quality bikes and parts come from a boggy corner in the UK is really humbling, and it shows incredible dedication in times where components are being fired off conveyor belts. 2019 now and Orange's frames are looking and performing better than ever.
top bloke- guy is a down to earth industrial type who loves the engineering of all things- a man after my own heart!
keep up the good work guy!!!!
"If you aven't got thirty speed, you migh'as well go 'ome!" Haha! This dates things.... Bet he wouldn't be saying that in 2020. It's all 'one by' now, boy!
8:12 "you just struggled feeding your rod in didn't ya" haha I'm so immature :P
great guy and fabulous rider
Orange is one of the best bike makers on the globe.
Dream bikes.
He knows a lot but what he knows best is to be humble.
That's the way to never stop learning.
Nice work Guy, I can now see why Orange bikes cost so much, not just thrown out of a production machine in the far east, I will have a five pro one day :-)
Loving the Wakefield welding calendars! ...,we get these every Xmas at our place hahaha
Being an ex rider from years ago, i quickly fell in love with Orange bikes. My idea back then was to build a new trials bike using an Orange Ms Isle, love that frame. Sadly i never got round to the project as life happend.
It aint far off! I'm not far from either yorkshire or Lincoln I wouldn't say there's too much between 'um
I'm jealous of Guy Martin's energy towards life.
Very nice ........... great piece of film .
Fellow Scania Technician who rides bikes is Guy.
And that is about where the similarity between us ends ... Great racer, brave and a Top Bloke!
tradesmen at work ,skilled ali tig welders ,just like me :-)
jesus this guy talking makes me feel like i just did a fat line of yay
I like that when he was welding, get the metal warm 1st before you put your rod in 😅 just like a woman then 😮. guys a top man
Well put together, This guy is right good, Cheers.
really matin you wanted a 3x10 nah it's a mountain bike you want a 1x11
What? In 2012?
1X10 wasn't even a thing in 2012 unless you only rode DH..
@@whssy :-D I've been riding 1 x 9 for over 20 years, just recently (2015) got my first 10-speed cassette. & the bike was my main form of transport until 2010. Where d'you think they got the idea from? People have been doing single ring for years, even where there's hills (like here in Yorkshire) :-D

Guy Martin is a British motorcycle racer and truck mechanic. Primarily a man of the road, he's one of the World's most talented riders - they forget to mention BALLZ OF STEEL
Terrible crash - get well soon...
British industry has so much potential! Can't loose skilled metal trades!
Great Vid. Guy is a legend. RUclips and their gambling ads on the other hand are not.
Guy Martin is just fantastic. What a guy!
You'll needs subtitles for people who haven't been to Yorkshire!
Amen!
so much porn on the walls in that factory lol
bloodyrobchan That's what its like in every factory around here.
in qld in oz they banned all the porn on the factory walls such a shame
bloodyrobchan can't see any private bits, hardly porn....
MrKdr500 There is in the dark corners of my workplace
All for the sake of STIFF frames ... and it WORKS!
I cant imagine anyone not liking Guy.I dont know and have never met him,but he feels like an old friend - like Fred Dibnah you just can not dislike the man.
If in doubt, just say "I don't know". You'll always look less foolish then just coming out with what you guess.
Monocoque. French. Mono-Single Coque-Shell. Single Shell. In engineering term, a monocoque is an aircraft or vehicle where the chassis (the structural frame) is integral with the body. E.g Most modern cars. Older cars were generally body on frame (chassis).
Monocoque means the loads and stress are carried by the outer skin or body, has nothing to do with being pressed into shape.
Literally French for single shell.
fred dibnah,s lad
Haha. Gotta love the Transits....apart from the rust issues and the fact you look like a pikey driving one :). I go everywhere in mine, work, weddings, funerals, mountain biking and camping trips (you can take anything and everything),but the main reason i got it was to be a motocross mobile, its served me well!
Thats why i own an Orange P5. Quality product
Quality. Got a 2006 Crush
buying a 2012 patriot tomorrow
Nice. I just bought a 2012 Five today
peanuts2105 I bought a French bike in 2010
I had a bike once. green it was.
so is tig welding just using a arc and stick. where as mig is the gas, arc and a fed cable?
yea.
Tig: Soldering
Mig: Hot glue gun
TIG tungsten inert gas. You can just use the tungsten to fuse, or feed a rod into the melted pool of metal. TIG is considered the "cleanest" welding, but also the most difficult. "Stick" (with rods) is the next in difficulty, then MIG is the easiest.

:-!:-!😨
Do ya still drink lager shandy lol
I Still have both orange 5 bikes still loving them and riding every week
🔥
fred dibnah re-incarnated.
Yep.
i love the fact that Guys so down to earth and doesn't put on a front for anything. So much so he turns up to the orange factory in a pair of his own oil soiled overalls. Gotta love him!
Really makes you appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into making these amazing bikes.
Orange bikes....thee best bikes in the world
always in debt to the snap on man he says 17:20
needs subtitles
Battle of the sideburns, with Martin emerging the clear winner
Monocoque actually means where the chassis is integral to the body, or something like 'single part'.
Top movie, seeing craft, interest, banter, enthusiasm and engineering, and an end product that is directly relevant. This should be used as a training film in schools, colleges and alike. Engineering can be cool. Love it!
Strange how he says that he does not like the attention and all the media-stuff in the TT, but no one does as much TV as he does.
True...but he only does what HE wants to do.. it has to really interest him first & foremost!
shut it
@@woooster17 Or some production company waves a fifty grand cheque in front of him. Can't blame him mind: I'd be the same!
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?
Mig and stick welding are just painting by numbers.... loooooooool... im thensame as guy .... i can weld... as in securly glue peices of metal together.. i have done chassis woth a mig or stick... but proper welding is amazing.... as my favorite saying goes..
A GRINDER AND PAINT MAKE ME THE WELDER I AINT.
Monocoque means lone male chicken Guy! come on, didn’t you take Latin at school?
I love the fact that Orange frames are made in a proper, grubby, crappy, seedy old workshop with proper skilled people using hand crafted methods, a million miles from the typically mass-manufacturer’s homogenised, spotless and soul-less plants. When I was riding as a teenager, there were so many frame builders in primitive spider-filled basements, under or in sheds behind bike shops making brilliant British bikes. Sadly not that many remain
I know Guy is asking dumb questions for the benefit of an audience that may not have knowledge of ts one of the techniques but he does a good job of not understanding so many basic things, I love his “I thought POWDER COATING was liquid, do you lacquer it to set it off?” full marks mate.
Everything with Guy Martin is awesome, all videos. Yep I watched them all :D
One heck of an accent. They're speaking English...I think. ;)
Guy always makes me smile, what a great character!
proper hand made thanks frances I bought an Orange 5 two years ago the best 3 grand I have ever spent But my son comes round and wants to borrow my bike. and go to Torridon with his mates. thanks Dad
wish I'd kept my early 90s Orange Clockwork, Orange and white, Shimano LX 7x3, Mavic rims on the parallax hubs and a set of semi slicks for a bit of road/compacted trails.
I bought an Orange 5 in2014 thebest £3200 I have spent. I am now 69 and love this bike. thanks guys. I also bought a 2016 factory 5 my son ride Enduro races on My granddaughter has hes eyes on it thanks guys. If its not orange we are not interested less is more.
I`m an old guy, not like those 60 yr. old kids, & I`ve had bad hearing all of my life. Since there wasn`t any CC in this video, I couldn`t understand what the hell they were talking about. It was still wonderful `cause Guy`s the Man.
The workshops a bit dark and 1980s jeebus but good beer drinking blokes. So many workshops now are hip with ten types of coffee machines and a beard is a prequisite to employment.
I tried ali tig welding once and i burnt holes and more holes. I can weld stick and mig and braze mo problem. I found out much later that the guy that let me have a go turned the gas off..
it is what it is and less is more!!!
Monocoque is French for single shell, 😁
no its bendy metal
It does mean single shell in French
Monocoque.... Single shell..... An aircraft or vehicle where the chassis and body are integral. ..... Not pressed and molded shape. However a monocoque is made by using a pressed or molded piece of sheet metal.
Guy Martin could host ANYTHING and I'd watch it for hours. Replace Anthony Bourdain with Guy Martin!!!
I dunno what it says about me but i can nearly always understand every word he says, Sometimes what he says don't make much sense anyway but eh :P Love that he LOVES what he does.
wonder if he's gone ten or eleven speed now. fad follows fad. I'm still 30!
Guy nearly had that blokes eye out with the welding rod ..lol Love Guy .. Amazing bloke and NOT a modern day Fred Dibner .. His his own man :)
Dear god! 6 min 26 secs he nearly had his eye out with the welding rod. If you are going to teach someone how to weld start with safety first and bend the top of the rod over 180 degrees for safety! Amateur hour or what!
The workmanship involved making these mtb is brilliant. Only thing I can’t stand with orange bikes is rear swing arms look horrible 😩
Ha ha, what does monoqueue mean? Enginneer, a pressed and folded design. Does it heck as like Guy should of said. He's ridden enough to know better.lol
I watch Guy for the truck/mechanics stuff and Big Clive for the electronics and both have this same passion going on, which is brilliant. It’s so nice to see knowledgeable people genuinely enjoying what they do and being incredibly entertaining and interesting to watch.
7:11 I have that same calendar. \m/
The thing that made Orange special in the 1990's was that when you ordered a bike it was made for you. You ordered the model, size, stem length, groupset and fork type along with the option of Fir Wheels. It was like having a custom made bike made. The Bike you recieved was always a good fit. If you ordered a Cannondale the chance are you might have to change the stem. I always thought the best value was the C16r. As where else could you get a (virtually) custom built bike for £640?
My HD....has 1400mm bars.......look wicked......Fucking liability!!
Disappointed by the shoddy camera work here. Love a bit of Guy Martin though
"right well here we are on the way to halifax arent we, bit early, going to go build a bike, orange mountainbike. you see it on the frame: built in halifax, made in halifax, i dont know are they? idk if its just a box of bits from taiwan and they bolt it together idk, but were gonna go see. i love the workmanship behind it all, i do believe that they are made in halifax. and i just love it, im right into me engineering and me weldin, i can appreciate when someones spent a bit of time on stuff"
