At my Barnes we put assistant to the villain on the rom com bogo table bc it’s really an office romance! It’s still in section as fantasy, but we decided that people would have more accurate expectations if they picked it up off the rom com table instead of fantasy!

I LOVED THE JASAD HEIR! I read a lot, and I mean a lot. And I can honestly say this is the absolute best debut novel I have ever read. To the point where I immediately asked the author if she had written anything else. She kind of laughed and said no I would have to wait for the sequel and I felt like she had just told me Christmas 🎄 was canceled. This definitely a “I would read Sara’s grocery list” kind of situation.
I looked for other books too!
I am so happy you loved The Jasad Heir! It's one of my favorites of the year. I totally agree that I would not classify it as a Fantasy Romance. After I read it, there were so many people telling me they didn't like it, and I think they were expecting a Fantasy Romance. I can't wait for the next book

aah you have no idea how happy and so exciting it was to see you try the jasad heir that was one my top favs for fantasy this year i knew it wouldnt win in its category but i still voted for it. Personally i thnk this book fits better in the fantasy section but with the way goodreads chose their books im just content that it even made it as a choice to pick for rom-fant hopefully more people will check out future work for this author. Im definitely waiting for the next book 😅😊 ps i love ur videos its so cozy and makes my day when you post

Also, totally support your not giving Foxglove King another chance - it’s so not worth your time. I wish I had dnf’d it but felt bad bc it was arc (I’ve learnt my lesson and will dnf next time).

You absolutely should give Rules of Redemption by TA White a go! It’s my new obsession! It’s the start of sci-fi/fantasy romance series. Think fae but they’re an alien race 👽 AI type companion, slow burn romance, badass gal being a badass. All the good stuff
12:15: My answer would be no, we, and Goodreads, clearly don’t know how to categorize things (especially fantasy). If they did THREE Greek retellings wouldn’t have been in the fantasy category.
I loved assistant to the villain! I talked about it in a video but I think people wanted a dark villain romance and that’s not this. But it’s great
I agree, but tbh with the synopsis idk why people got a dark vibe instead of a fluffy fun one 🙈

I read Throne of the Fallen before I’d read any other Kerri Manascalco books and I think that was a really good thing. I liked the book so I went and read the Kingdom of the Wicked series and I liked that more, now I’m reading Stalking Jack the Ripper and I’m having a great time. I’m glad I’m reading the way I am for sure! 👍🏼

@@oliviareadsalatteI don’t think it felt too Insta lovey to me, to be honest I’ve read so much since it that I don’t 100% remember the details just the overall plot. I just remember liking it but easily moving on and I haven’t really thought about it since 😂
Lol I fall into the same time trap where post-dinner I don't have the attention span to read anything until I'm ready to go to bed and then I'm like, so I should knock out 50 pages right??? But then I promptly fall asleep after 10. I can't escape this cycle 😂

I felt the same way about Throne of the Fallen, literally one of the worst books I've read this year (maybe of all time)! I absolutely loved Stalking Jack the Ripper and liked Kingdom of the Wicked (but that series got worse as it went on). It's like Kerri Maniscalco is chasing the fantasy romance trend and everything I loved about her writing (gothic atmosphere & well crafted plots) is falling by the wayside. I just don't understand how it's possible that her books are getting so much worse as time goes on!

I think the best fantasy romance is slowburn! But personally, it was a fantasy that just had a major romance subplot 🙈

My issue with "Assistant to the Villain" was that it felt more YA. It gave Disney channel kid shows comedy :/

I heard one explanation for fantasy romance and romance fantasy:
Fantasy romance = fantasy with romance as a B plot
Romance fantasy = romance with fantasy as a B plot
I think to me those are the same, along with romantasy. However, I do think romantic fantasy is a different thing!
We'll have to agree to disagree on Assistant to the Villain 😂 I did not think it was funny at all! Yet at the same time, what you said about Hurricane Wars sounds a lot like the things I look for and think about in books, and I think I'd enjoy it. Go figure!
You should definitely try it! And I can see assistant not being for everyone for sure
I've come to terms with Goodreads reviews, I believe they are heavily biased at the out set (reviewer copies sent out and you KNOW those people are incentivised to give a good review and the publishers are for sure using fake accounts to give good reviews.) Then after a certain amount of time the real accounts start throwing down reviews. It all shakes out to a brilliant mess that doesn't really represent how good or bad a book actually is. I don't read the reviews, I just use good reads to keep track of myself 😅
I definitely use goodreads more to track my reading and books I own than anything else too!

I loved the kingdom of the wicked series and I had to DNF Throne of the Fallen, it felt too try hard and I was bored. I loved Envy of the Wicked series I was so excited to read this and envy was boring, Camilla was boring, the story line was boring.
