  • At Southshore Charter Academy outside Tampa, teacher Robin Hughes realized that most of her students had never seen actual snow - it hasn't snowed in Central Florida in 45 years. So, she reached out to her sister in Kentucky who agreed to ship Hughes a snowman. Steve Hartman reports on how the snow-deprived children gave the snowman, nicknamed Lucky, a very warm reception.

This teacher is flat out one of the best! She puts her heart and soul into her profession of what “teaching” is all about. Kudos to her sis in Kentucky for giving a HUGH helping hand! Priceless reactions from the kids…..and they will always remember her for it and “making “stuff “ happens…

This so precious. Just the simple things of life will bring so much joy to children. As an educator, just seeing the fascination and pure joy in their cherub faces, makes everything feel alright in the 🌎 world. Cool sisters . 🥰✊🏾

That's why I am glad I live where I do because we have 4 distinct seasons. It isn't boring in the Midwest.

I can't believe that little snowman made it 😂 I grew up in South Florida and Arkansas, and now I live in Central New York. It does snow in Arkansas sometimes a couple times a year, sometimes more. Most of the winter weather we get there though is sleet and ice. I have been in Central New York now for almost a year, and it snows OFTEN. What I never realized was how each snow fall is so different depending on the temperature, pressure, and humidity. I had always thought that the traditional depiction of what a snowflake looks like was just artistic and that snow flakes didn't really look like that in real life. Maybe under a microscope or in an illustration, but I did not think that you could see it with your own eyes. This winter, one night the conditions were just right, and the snow was so soft and fluffy and just magically floated. I walked up to my car after work, and the snow on my car was sparkling. I was mesmerized. I looked more closely at the snow, and I could see each individual perfectly beautiful and intricate snowflake, and I felt exactly like a child. It was wondrous. I was laughing out loud with joy. My entire ride home I was smiling, and when I got home I just stood outside for a while and marveled at the snow.

Years ago, my friend, a 3rd generation Floridian, moved up to Virginia near me. The first time it snowed she can running over yelling “ it’s snowing and it’s SOFT!!!”
When I laughingly asked her how she thought it would feel she said “ hard like ice, maybe”. She then confessed that until she’d seen it herself, she thought pictures of fall foliage was manipulated. She didn’t believe the colors were real because tree’s can’t be those amazing hues. 😂
I also, heard of someone from Southern California who, when visiting the East Coast one winter, was very upset that all the trees had “died” of a blight. They asked what was going to happen to the “dead” trees?
So just remember your “ normal” might be someone else’s amazing.

I live in northeast Pennsylvania were snow is a every yr occurrence. One year a couple with a ten yr old daughter moved into my neighborhood from the south. First snow of the season was a "coating" which barely half an inch. I found their daughter out in the yard making or trying to make snow angels. She had never seen snow before.

A Childhood without Snow, Jumping into a pile of Autumn Leaves, Admiring the Beauty of Spring and the Fireflies and Sea Shells of Summer is a Childhood that is incomplete. I've seen the look on the faces of Adults seeing Snow for the 1st time in their lives..., Let me tell ya..., You'll never forget the look of wonder and an inner child that has heard of tales of Winter's Wonder but never having actually experienced it until That moment.
I Thank the Good Lord AND my parents for raising me on Long Island (New York) and To have had the most wonderful childhood. Folks, if you can..., take your children or grandchildren to experience the wonders of winter, of Autumn (in peak Fall Foliage), to see the Redwoods and Giant Sequoias in California, to see Crater Lake in Oregon, to see the Grand Canyon, to see Niagara Falls, etc, etc, etc
Leave them with unforgettable memories that will last them a lifetime.
