Blowing the motor on my 2021 BMW S1000rr while doing a quick morning cruise in South Carolina. This is the first day of my 2 week trip out west, lol.

Bro rides the thing like it has one gear, is surprised when the brand new cat is toasted... Motor is not blown... You burned your cat to a crisp and now it's blocking the exhaust.
I can literally feel the pain of the bike if the rpm is reaching the top to its limit and I immediately want to upshift… this guy rides at the top of his rev limiter.. when u should be riding somewhere around the middle to protect the engine etc. some people have no care for their machines.
@@2Wheeligniter isnt the rev limiter there to keep the engine safe? It should handle being ridden like that
he should just take off the whole exhaust and put a full system on. i only have a R3 but the cat on it weighs like 40 pounds. i took it off first week of ownership and installed a full system. i have saved a ton of weight and it sounds great
@@VirtualTech The reason why this happened is most likely because the bike is new, it needs some time to get broken into. A new bike comes with an instruction manual, which should be read. My bike told me specifically I shouldn't run it over 6k until 10k km's. Of course I did not listen to that but I also didn't hit the redline very often, or ride it hard until 7-8k km's.

BMW bikes typically have a 3 yr 36000 mile warranty. Something to look into even though this was a private sale.
Only void if the warranty is transferable, even then it’s only void if previous owner stayed on top of all maintenance and went to the dealer he purchased from for everything at the correct service intervals.
Manufacturers have people who go through social media to deny Warranty claims. There is no shot of warranty lol

companies like BMW are also able to see how the bike was ridden/used through the bike's computers, when they see high revs, going over the speed limit and wheelies it'll defo be a void@@Toast4days

Can say with some certainty it ain’t blown up! You’re having an ignition coil issue. K67s are notorious for havin coils go bad. I have a ‘21 m package and have had two coils go bad. Same thing happened to me just riding along and boom serious fault in engine control. Sounds like it’s blown cause it’s running on 3 cylinders. BMW has 3 year 36k mile warranty even on pre owned s1ks! Take it to a BMW dealer and they’ll warranty the repair so long as you still have the warranty (if it’s a 2020 might out of warranty) definitely annoying but the way the k67 rides it’s worth the headaches! I don't work on bikes, but I'm a fleet mechanic. I think you had an ignition coil failure and the unburned fuel caused the catalytic converter to melt. The knocking is likely pre-ignition caused by high exhaust backpressure.
Hey bro. It looks like your cat is clogged up/ breaking up in itself. If you blew her up it’ll be throwing smoke, take off your exhaust and it should be fine!

I'd worry about the forward facing oil pickup, but should be fine as long as you aren't doing full nooners. As others pointed out, that exhaust was pretty hot. I'd remove the slipon and cat, runners only and see how it runs to test if it was a blockage in the exhaust
yeah the way bmw advertised this generation of bikes they showed people doing full on rolling burn outs stoppies and wheelies so your would think it would be fine doing some
I dont think its as bad as you do. Sounds like its running on 3 cylinders, Might just be a coil issue. Start the bike and feel which exhaust runner is colder then the other 3. Then you know which sylinder has the issue. Then swap place witch that coil and another and check if the problem moved to that sylinder. If it did then you know its just a bad coil.

Your cats were glowing red lol. I highly doubt you blew her up. Ive seen cats break apart and clog the system up. Could be a coil issue. But im really curious about the exhaust. Please keep us updated! Hope its an easy fix.

@@crisnmaryfam7344 tbh i didnt even look at the rpms. and im not watching again. but i seen that thing red lined for mad long before it blew up. and i watched it with like 5 different people that are professional racers like i used to be before i got mangled. he red lined the fuck out of it for a long time immediately before it "blew up" i dont even think it blew up. he doesnt show any damage. think he rode it in his next vid. his computer which BMWs have just said "bro stop doing this" do you have any idea the pressure and heat that does to an engine especially in first gear? its ok for a second or two. and shit 10k rpms for that long isnt even good in first gear. but i cant watch it because it makes me cringe. hes a stunt rider though. nothing against dank. dude is awesome and makes awesome content and is a genuine good dude and very talented at what he does. nothing agianst him. but i mean you can test it yourself if you ride. take your bike out and 10k it in first gear all over. if you dont have a computer saving your bike. that bitch is gonna blow up.
He was way over 13k, which is red line for this bike. Its not a 600.
@DashRendar308 redline is not 13k. It's 14.5 and you can even get it raised to 15 on a tune.

I work at BMW dealership and have seen two blown S1000k motors. This is the third..I think they have issues. If I’m not mistaken they have a long warranty that is transferable to new owners.
Our dealership got a local you tuber a new motor installed in two weeks.
You must be on sales if you think this is a blown motor... Dude cooked his cat and the blocked the exhaust, the engine is perfectly fine, decatting or replacing the cat and the issue is solved, Engine management error came on due to the bike recognising this.

Same here, I used to work at my local BMW. We had many S1000rr's come in with either blown motors or catastrophic engine or transmission failure 😂 I helped install 2 new engines and did a valve and piston recall on one if I remember correctly. Pretty shocking really for a new bike worth a LOT of money. Not a BMW fan anyway so probably sounds like I'm hating - this is just my truthful experience - I presonally do ride european bikes though - KTM - Aprilia & Gasgas - no issues at all as of yet 👍
I used to work at BMW as a bike tech, newer s1000rr models came in all the time either blown motors or some sort of catastrophic engine or transmission failure. Thats not to say they are unreliable bikes, it's just newer bikes usually have lots of issues that need ironing out through recalls - which is why I always recommend to buy the later model of any bike after the issues have been sorted out by the dealer. I've personally had more luck working on aprilis's and ktm's - the 2 biggest brands claimed to be "unreliable" 😂

If it makes you feel any better, I bought my first bike, an 04 636 a few weeks back for $2,500 and after a day of riding at HI temp, I took it to a shop they told me it was a write off. (Broken fuel pump from a GSXR, blown/dechromed front forks, mangled harness etc.)
Sounds like you needed someone who knows about bikes to help you find one... cheap isn't always better just sayin. Could of spent $4000 on a decent FZ and rode it till the wheels fells off but you wanted a crotch rocket...

ive felt that exact feeling, bought a 13 636 and in 3 months engine blown coming from work and did that exact walk. but thanks to youtube, got that engine out and fixed it myself in my livingroom, now she running better than before with new everything inside. Hopefully you get it fixd
A bad coil can make the cat glow because of all of the excess fuel being catalyzed. Too much fuel can get a catalyst so hot that the ceramic melts. That's hot!

Coils. Can hear its not running on all cylinders and raw fuel hitting the cat will be making it heat up and glow. Easy fix.
Do yourself a favor and pickup the wifi GS911 so you can check these codes when they pop up! I couldn't even bleed my brakes without the fuggin gadget but it sure helps pinpoint issues.

Sounds like a coil pack/mis fire issue, BMW motors don't let out that easy. Or possibly a clogged Cat but I've never heard of that on these bikes.

I have seen an alarming number of these engines blowing up at the track but also on the street people are reporting these prpblems.
Something is very wrong with them.
BMWs response is kind of arbitrary so I wish you good luck with your dealer.
The amount of s1000 i've seen blow up on the newer models makes me rethink buying one. i absolutely love how they preform on track and look but if this is a common problem i'll stick with the big 4.
BMW does the most unreliable bikes and cars, its actually disgusting. stick to the japenese big 4. if you want even more reliability then stick to honda and yamaha.
I think its more of an issue of the usual people who buy an s1000rr. Since the 600 market sucks ass many people go with a s1000rr as their first (or one of their first) bikes and treat it absolute garbage. Ive seen so many blogs of people who just started biking who push their double r into the limiter while its still cold. Lets be real, with all the tech in a s1000rr literally everyone is able to ride it "kinda" properly, even tho they will never be able to push it to its limit.
Contrary we have many cbr's that reach easily 100k miles, because I also think it has something to do with the owners of a cbr who most likely want a very realiable bike as tho why they care alot about their machines. Its just my theory but it makes most sense to me.

Therefore the prices skyrocketed. The latest street legal R6 suddenly costs more than an almost brand new R1, how?

People don’t realize that riding wheelies can starve many types of engines of oil leading to a massive failure. They are not worth it. Nobody is going to hand you an award. Not to mention the stress it puts on front forks and seals
I have 6 wheelie trophies in my room.
I started riding on 2-stroke RD250 and then next bike was a race setup RD350 that wheelied the 1st 3 gears if you were at half throttle or more when it came onto the pipe. Once in a while we did wheelies just to do them but, it got old pretty quick and it was just a lot more fun to canyon carve than stunt. The nice thing about 2-stroke though is my oil is in the fuel so it never starves for it. I still have an RD400(in profile pic) and to be honest would rather ride an old school bike with no computer crap on it. I don't need ABS and traction control. All of that is in between my ears. Even my newest and last bike is a 2023 XR150L and it is bare bones as it gets in today's market.

I had a 2018 s1000r I bought and in 2021 it started knocking real bad. Loved the bike but wouldn’t buy another one.

Faults could be caused by so many things. Fear the worst but don't let yourself get down yet. Have it looked at and it's likely not something caused by starved oil. If you want peace of mind, pull the oil plug and when you don't see chunks you may sleep better.

STICK with a zx6r or mt07/fz07nthe BMW S1000RR was never meant to be a wheelie machine, even the cars are not built that well.

I’ve been hearing quite a few story of blown s1000rr engine for the past few years model. I wonder if that’s one of the reason BMW stop selling to US temporily.
Still trying to wrap my head around the whole trip on second gear thing. Harley riders cruising at 4K rpm and now a one gear sport bike. The world is obviously coming to an end.

And obviously they can’t take it, being it broke on your first run or at least overheated the catalytic converter to the point of full derate limp mode shut down.

what amazes me is all youtubers and people knowingly bmw and ducati usually have blown motors or QC control problems and they still buy them. Get yourself a honda or yamaha or kawasaki little less flare alot more reliable.

Honestly ive seen so many vids of these specific models blowing up or being completely unreliable even brand new and costing 40k. I seen a guy who had 400 miles on his 2024 and bmw refused to warranty it when he heard ticking and had to replace the entire engine himself

Ive destroyed some pistons and cylinders on my supermotos so i know the initial feeling of it but never was suprised it was always expected to eventually happen

I blew the motor on my R6 2 years back going absolute balls to the wall for 30k miles took great care of it maintenance wise did oil changes like every 1-2k miles just because of how hard I was on it and took it in to the dealership for every maintenance interval, it just happens. Definitely surprised me still 😂

Catalytic went red hot so it clogged exhaust system by misfire from (99% problably ) 1 cylinder and extra fuel made it hot

I have not but seems to be very common at lower miles, odd mine happened much later into ownership.

Both had problems every few weeks/months
Both required hundreds of dollars to get into working condition
Buy new and sell used at a higher price to avoid this BS ever again

That pipe was glowing hot when you looked at it. If it's not the cat it could have been running lean.
