I’ve been practicing a 7-second brain trick that’s backed by NASA research, and it’s made a big difference for me. I mentioned it on my profile for those who are curious.
My body tells me what to eat, but I’ve been used to eat a whole foods plant based diet for 14 years. From time to time, my body tells me to eat more of some kind of veggies. I go to supermarket and I buy what my body tells me to do buy (and it’s never ultra processed food - always fresh food). The other day I was hungover, feeling awful. I had already eaten a hearty healthy breakfast, but my body told me to eat broccoli and chickpeas. I ate a whole steamed broccoli and a chickpea salad with nori, pure olive oil, nutritional yeast - I felt better straight away after. Sometimes I feel like having melted 100% dark chocolate with berries. Sometimes I feel like having a few satsumas. I always listen to my body for food, and my health is excellent. I don’t have any health issues, not even headaches or period pain, and I always feel happy. I can’t feel said even if I try 😂

my first experience 1980 I guess, was dramatic, I had an overwhelming NEED to move… I was playing some type of game at a table. when I stood up and moved, a huge 1980 type 3ft speaker fell off the ceiling mounting and landed in the chair I had been sitting in. I was just shocked that I had this intuition to move right in the nick of time.
The comment that some people are "born" with more intuition causes me to think about Gabor Mate' and how he talks about intuition being something that is part of our authentic self and how trauma kills that self. Perhaps those who have higher intuitive capacity have had less trauma. Gabor's theory is that we are all born our authentic self, therefore, without trauma, we might all have better or more "naturally" high intuitive capabilities. Healing our traumas effectively and thoroughly can help bring this back for those who have suffered significant trauma.
I have a mom’s intuition. This week while overseas I felt something wrong w my youngest son (30) I was able to contact and found out his family dog had been run over. I also have known my friend was sick, my ex was getting married etc.
So do I… as a mom, I have always had a gut feeling when one of my kids were in trouble. Now that they are adults, I still have that but I have pulled back because they are adults.
Thank you for sharing the podcast. So much of the conclusions Dr. Pearson is drawing from his research are inline with the personal journey I have been in conjunction with my faith beliefs. I do want to address the what felt like a flippant reference to intuitive eating as nonsense and not part of intuition. The journey I was referring to was greatly influenced by the principles of IE. The principles helped me identify the generational and childhood trauma responses I had developed around food, eating, my body; particularly last supper mentality. These principles began a personal healing process which has allowed me to access greater trust in my intuition. I find that IE is often understood in the Dummy’s Guide method instead of actually reading and contemplating the actual principles which are inline with the suggestions made in this podcast regarding intuition in general. 21:50
I think he's really trying to explain awareness and perception, which is also rare nowadays because of all the technology and conditioning. However intuition is something that's ethereal and he's trying to encapsulate it in a nice neat package, which I personally don't think is possible, so trying to follow him, especially when Rich rightfully challenges him, is difficult.
Whenever you start at step one, operationalizing a concept so you can study it, you don't have answers to everything yet. He's only doing one line of research, a good start I think.
My childhood environment was traumatic. Around the age of 12, I started to question the acts of my parents. I sensed they were wrong in what they were doing but I didn't know what was right. Was this thought process intuition or common sense, the two seem closely related. I left home and moved far away at the age of 17 because it felt like it was the right thing to do if I wanted to change my life. Was this decision common sense or intuition? Around the age of 20 I had an important decision to make and I deliberately did the opposite of what I felt was right because I wanted to test my intuition. Of course the outcome was less than desirable. That's when I realized I had a good sense of intuition and I should listen to it. It has led me to a wonderful life. I'm 70 now and looking at how my siblings life has turned out I couldn't feel more grateful for following my intuition. I still wonder where it came from.
I truly love the way you can delve so deeply into all of the topics your guests bring to the table Rich. You are a master at the craft of interviewing. Great podcasts, a pleasure to be able to listen and watch great minds at work!
At 1:17:00 Dr Pearson's discussion reminds me of a case study by Dr Oliver Sacks about a man, blind from birth, who had his sight surgically restored as an adult. But despite trying for months(?) he couldn't adequately incorporate the sensory information coming in from his eyes, and ended up doing what he could to minimize his visual input to return to life as it was before the operation.
Some of what Joel is saying about mastery reminds me of the cognitive concept of expertise which they touched on when talking about athletes or chess players when they get to a point where they just "know" what to do next but couldnt put it in words to explain it to someone else. Its like a emotional, environmental awareness expertise which obviously some people are going to be better st than others
Have you read Robert Greene's book Mastery ? It's a powerful realm to be entwined into, there's definitely a connection between ultra nutritious gut brain clarity ❤
1:21:36 It's all about collecting new data. Some of that data will fit into what we are creating. Silence, the beginning of meditation will bring it on. Turning on the unconscious mind for 10 to 15 seconds will work. Being tell my calm and at complete peace-which bring us back to what? Letting go of dislikes.
Surprised you guys brought up Aphantasia, I had an accident with a drunk driver when I was a teenager and I didnt suffer any PTSD at all and my whole family was shocked that it didnt seem to phase me at all afterwards. I contribute it to the fact I have zero visualization or any flash backs I pretty much have no visual recollection of the event yet I still remember it happening.
It's amazing to me that most people would rather listen to a person who has never actually done real scientific research on a subject but can pontificate for hours on something based on only his own experience and anecdotes. This is how science actually works. What you find in one study leads to how you do the next and hopefully other people get interested and put a different spin on it. I think he explained this at about min 44.
I believe you can only use intuition to the extent one understands themselves and the world around them. Many people have a habit of saying one thing and doing something else. They really don't know they are doing it and I believe they will figure it out because I see this happening and I feel it happening and I hear it happening.
Welcome to our world.... the title.. for the portion of humans that are largely guided by thier intuition.. some for all of our lives... its just a little but like saying ' The NEW science of walking'
1:22:16-17 There are two flow states. One is going with what is happening in the moment which is risky to do. The other flow has to do with your personal spiritual, soulful flow which isn't risky to do.
1:29:39. This is a created world. Everything around us are creations. All that Humans have ever done and will ever do are creations. I firmly believe we are thousands of years behind where we should be for our species. Another idea for a book has todowith this. The title, The Lost Species
A lot of Black people over the age of 50 or 60 have an intuition about racists and racist enviroments. This typically leads to being able to "sense" its presence even when others who dont have that intuition can't see or feel it and there are no overt signs of it. This leads to some interesting conversations. I've always thought it was an epigenetic thing and most definitely a sense unconsciously honed for survival. Some younger Black people will have this intuition, but many don't or they don't have it to the same degree as their elders.
I am a designer, a painter, an entrepreneur….My creativity at times rules my brain. Getting into my zone is my true happy place! I feel normal after listening to your description of the “flow state”. Can I volunteer for your study? I would like to understand my creative brain. 1:11:52 It enables you to get a job. Which someone show you one time how to do something and be able to duplicate each step. The same for school. At age 13, in one year. I learned to the ABCs, the colors, how to numbers. How to read, write and I caught up with the other students by the end of the year. And I had fun doing it.
For the love of God, I wish some scientists would do studies on the ppl who are sensitive to other ppls energy and emotions. I'm one of those ppl, and I can feel and absorb other ppls' emotions and energy, and I can even know what ppl are going to say before they say it. My theory is that ppl like me are sensitive to the frequency and magnetic fields that other ppl omitt. I'm told it's pattern recognition. I don't think so bc I literally feel it, and I can have my back to someone and know what they are feeling.
You sound like an empath. Your call for science to do studies is interesting but I suspect it is not going to reveal much. Applying logic and seeming reason is an entirely different process. I often wonder if emotions themselves are transferable.
Creativity. I decided long ago that imagination (the addict's best worst friend (spoken from an addict who thought imagination "of" better was enough until it eventually, slowly, painfully, catastrophically wasn't)) might overlap creativity a bit, but that the relational difference is that creativity *acts* on imagination. There is always imagination in creativity, but imagination stops short of action. To dream is imagination, but to act on imagination is creativity. Not exactly scientific or authoritative, but it functions well for me.
If you want to understand space-time and other dimensions, please bring Dr. Hugh Ross (astrophysicist) to the podcast. Thank you for this amazing conversation.
1:46:08 Age 7, West Texas. We moved out on a ranch. My curiosity is running my life. I'm a passenger inside my own body and brain. I'm pulled to check out every new thing. One walking back to the ranch house. I saw something new stretch out on a cement slab in the sun light. A feeling come over me. Stay away from it. Like an uncomfortable feeling. There were no words. I would find out what it was 20 years later. It was a copperhead snake. Which is extremely poisonous. I didn't talk. I would have died had I got bitten by it.
omg the timing of this video is stunning. the title and the first 50 seconds sum up what I needed an explanation for. We definitely have the potential for free will when you understand what chaos is and how probability works. But it’s NOT AUTOMATIC. Basically by definition. It takes WORK. Learning and unifying knowledge. It’s a natural law built into the universe. Which I have been trying to show people literally for decades but they won’t look through the telescope. 🙌🤷♀️
Uncertainty isn't what scares people or creatures. They did an experiment with two groups of apes. Both sets of apes war shock collars and would get randomly shocked throughout the day. The difference was one group of apes would have a bell sound 30 seconds before getting shocked and the other group would get no warning before being shocked. The results of this experiment showed that the group of apes that had the bell sound before being shocked, would flip out and in turn their health was affected negatively from this stress... Higher instances of cardiovascular issues resulting in heart attacks, Cancers and other health problems... including shorter lifespan. However the group of apes that was given no warning prior to randomly being shocked did not stress about being shocked and did not suffer with widespread health problems that the other group did. On average the second group had much longer life spans compared to the first group.
Is it really developing new tech products and services that's going to help us determine what's real and what isn't once AI is completely pervasive? If we still have some human consciousness and intuition now, I wish we could develop and strengthen that in order to keep our humanity in the coming onslaught.

“Speaking of the ground of Being, the Zen monk Shunryū Suzuki writes: 'The true source, ri, is beyond our thinking; it is pure and stainless. When you describe it, you put a limitation on it. That is, you stain the truth or put a mark on it.' In the Analects of Confucius it sis written: 'The Master said, does Heaven speak?' Famously Lao Tzu tells us that 'the tao that can be named is not the eternal tao'. In the Eastern tradition, then, there are many such statements of the impossibility of capturing the source of all things in language.” ― Iain McGilchrist, The Matter With Things: Our Brains, Our Delusions, and the Unmaking of the World
I loved that doc. from yrs. ago, “I Am!” Since then the Heartmath Institute with very reputable scientists have proven the heart actually sends the brain more msg’s than the other way around. They talk about heart/brain coherence. Epigenetic’s is the ‘new’ science that Bruce Lipton, Gregg Braden, Lynn McTaggart & many others have been sharing & using for several yrs. I think you’d love adding one of them to your guest list for the show.
I loved this one Rich, intuition is so intriguing! Appreciate info around aphantasia too! Cool listening and contacting with fellow Aussie, thanks Joel!
Rich , I respect you and the information you share . My daughter has been struggling with alcohol addiction since age 14 and she is now 30. I continue to research information on the best programs , methods , supplements, and medications. I have yet to find her relief . Could you please share a method , type of therapy, supplements, or medication that helped you recover. Thank you for sharing.
Rich has an incisive intellect but his kindness is even greater. (He was running circles around the guest-IMO) It would be interesting to look into the effect narcissism has on intuition. My guess is Steve Job's narcissistic traits clouded the clarity and humility required to truly access intuition. I am referring to self-managing a pancreatic cancer diagnosis and his unfortunate behavior towards his eldest daughter.
Intuition is not learned knowledge. He spoke a lot about learning trials and then the subconscious’ ability to recognize patterns. Intuition is the ability to to know without prior knowledge, if you’re looking at spiritual texts that explain this concept. It appears that he is talking about experience that gets engrained over time, like programming.
1:14 Yes, PTSD, I get it. Aphantasia and the present go hand in hand. Aphantasia and the past do not go hand in hand. The past and PTSD go hand in hand.
You had me at 'intuition' in the title. Thank you for your terrific video! I waved off the total time investment required on my part to listen to you both exchange your masteries; and I'm happy I did. This is my 1st time watching your podcast, Rich. You have a rich vocabulary. I appreciate your attempts to bring mysticism, spirituality, etc. into the melting pot on the table between you two. One topic I waited patiently until the very end to see if either of you would raise it is HSP, what about the Highly Sensitive Person as a subject in an intuition study? We are 20% of the world population; we are wired uniquely when compared to the majority 80%. We are 'different', as defined by the 80%. See Dr. Elaine Aron's seminal books on the topic. Perhaps you, Joel, can get curious about HSPs and our powerful intuition skillset, as a part of your continuing study of intuition. Perhaps you, Rich, can get comfortable with the future impact of AI should HSP intuition, and empathy skillsets be incorporated into its development? Could be futile hopes on our parts. It's my understanding AI is welcomed and heavily invested in by the 80% because it will be used to create a productive, untiring, 24/7 workforce without the pesky emotions, physical limitations, drama, intuitions, empathy and unpredictable human behavior that mucks up the ROI...teasing! Or am I? Namaste' 🙏
Rick it was a very interesting tidbit when you said “a world where you have to question everything that you see”- Id say a majority of this experience would be online, not in real life. This brings me to the question very close the central theme of your podcast- addiction and sobriety. Do you consider the internet and living online an addiction? a healthy addiction? Just like gambling or social media, addiction doesnt have to be a drug. Whats your stance on the internet and online life making us addicts?
Are those of us with aphantasia less likely to have PTSD or just not likely to have flashbacks as a symptom of our PTSD....? I definitely had (now healed) PTSD minus flashbacks. Please be careful in saying we don't get PTSD. We don't get flashbacks, there are many other symptoms of PTSD we do and can have.
I agree that with PTSD with aphantasia manifest differently than those whose visualize. Most aphants/SDAM process verbally/semantically. For me (and I suspect others) verbal rumination is a horrible form of ptsd manifestation.
I had an argument with Facebooks AI thing. It was exhausting because it only came back with kindness and understanding for my frustration. I enjoy AI so far. 😂
lol that immediate topic switch from questioning one’s free will to talking about a limited series because Rich could tell the guest was starting to maybe get uncomfortable.
Sorry I am annoyed because the host talks too much - I beleive he is confusing intuition with subconscious urges. Intuition is an alignment when the conscious mind wakes up to the reality of the subconscious mind, so that you CAN make a good decision based on hyper-awareness of the reality of the situation.
It's a great podcast and got answers to alot of questions, just trying to deep dive a bit in intuition. So I understand that intuition comes from the unconscious mind but without having a conscious confirmation on the decisions you make out of the uncoinscious signals could lead to wrong decisions as it could be manipulative. Also I think the power of unconscious is way beyond that of the conscious mind so a link between conscious and unconscious mind is needed to understand what unconscious emotion lead to the decision and consciously defining whether that is a free will or imposed and with your gut feeling going ahead with that. My conclusion would be if the unconscious emotion is from free will, it could be much more effective compared to the conscious decision or the imposed unconscious emotion. Do you have data to analyse following two things: 1. What is the average ratio of influence from conscious and unconscious emotion in the over all decision making & 2. Based on differentiating ratios of the above two in different people is high unconscious to conscious ratio correlated to better decision making assuming that the unconscious emotion is pure free will. I would like to find some opportunity to work in this domain as it really holds up my curiosity and could work my life for free in this domain. Also, on a point where you mentioned that you wish you had infinite time to go deep in every area you want to research but you only have limited time to spend, I guess you just need more people like you willing to work as an extension of your ideas with your guidance and direction but solely driving the research further, you will be amazed to see the number of findings in each area of choice in the similar time you conclude your research in one. I am sure there would be alot of people curious and willing to work with you. All the best. & Thanks for posting this podcast.
Our soul is the sum total of our bodies and the breath of our creator. We don’t have per se a spirit, we just do things in the spirit of something or the spirit of the heart. When we die we are brain dead/ body dead and the breath given goes back to the creator and just like Jesus was resurrected, we also will be able to be resurrected and will be resurrected
Intuition is our most dynamic Ability. As Intuition is at its Low-Performance level in our temporary passage, in the Development- Circuit, it is Not at all understod. 'Build REAL Intuition', 'Brain', and 'the power of the unconscious mind', de-rails and confuse the understanding. Dont waste your time.

This is not an interview. It is a lecture by Joel Pearson and I think he doesn't seem to care about what his expert has to say. He talks way more than he alllows his guest to teach
I’m sorry I’m not sold on that. PTSD is easier on people who have Aphantasia. But I did enjoy your talk, I also value your information shared . However ,memories are what have you in a rheumanating loop? Nobody’s gonna close their eyes and try to visualize negative thoughts .Two different sections of the brain. But the memories that you can’t control are very active with PTSD and CTPSD. Much love.
Thanks for the realistic perspective you've brought up Rich.... at least, so far. I'm only at 25 minutes. So far, I feel this guest is naive in his conceptualizations..... he's oversimplifying and making a lot of assumptions without the research to back up his broad, sweeping statements.
The fact that RR is more aware of how “intuition” is hijacked (in such a high percentage of people)than this “expert” seems concerning about his understanding of humans.

I find that IE is often understood in the Dummy’s Guide method instead of actually reading and contemplating the actual principles which are inline with the suggestions made in this podcast regarding intuition in general. 21:50
Live in the moment allowing intuition as your guide. No fear.
I think the opposite is actually true, there is a mass consciousness going on this era as humanity really try to understand who they are.

Rich, thank you again for another great interview. Your shared experience and ways of bringing it all together is excellent.
Thank you RICH for this conversation with DR JOEL, looking forward to learn SCIENCE behind INTUITION 👍❤️
I wonder how many other very basic differences there are between people's minds there that are not at all obvious.
Aphantasia
I don't know Rich. Your guest didn't have a lot of studies or information backing this.
Love the show
It's amazing to me that most people would rather listen to a person who has never actually done real scientific research on a subject but can pontificate for hours on something based on only his own experience and anecdotes. This is how science actually works. What you find in one study leads to how you do the next and hopefully other people get interested and put a different spin on it. I think he explained this at about min 44.
@@Gypsy218100% seems like much of the same we have seen throughout history. They’d be terrified to learn what real mystics already know😏🤫
I believe you can only use intuition to the extent one understands themselves and the world around them. Many people have a habit of saying one thing and doing something else. They really don't know they are doing it and I believe they will figure it out because I see this happening and I feel it happening and I hear it happening.
Thank you for continually tapping into powerful topics. Love this
Welcome to our world.... the title.. for the portion of humans that are largely guided by thier intuition.. some for all of our lives... its just a little but like saying ' The NEW science of walking'
God gave us this radar system. It helps to make wiser decisions. Follow your gut! We are all connected.
Pouring more resources into what humanity needs and the application of academic knowledge in real life in a way that elevates human consciousness.
I am a designer, a painter, an entrepreneur….My creativity at times rules my brain. Getting into my zone is my true happy place! I feel normal after listening to your description of the “flow state”. Can I volunteer for your study? I would like to understand my creative brain. It’s like a wild stallion that wants to Gallup in to many directions at once, but when focused it will win the Grand Prix! Thank you for your insights.
You are right about heart. I intuitively got this when listening music last night. Reached to feel my heart.
Brilliant pod cast. Thank you Mr. Roll. 😊
omg the timing of this video is stunning. the title and the first 50 seconds sum up what I needed an explanation for. I just opened RUclips to research and this was the first video I saw in my subscription feed. omg I‘m so excited about this video. I hope it lives up to its titles promises & I hope the science behind it is real. that would be so awesome
It's one of the ways intuition works😊
Very interesting. He should contact Sonia Chocette. She’s been an expert on intuition for 50 years.
My take on it is that you really need to know one's self first
1:25:38-39, The reward center in the brain doesn't judge negative inbound creativity or positive in creativity. #dopamine
Stress analysis heart monitoring 24 by 7 possible but Creativity MRI scans 24 by 7 for weeks months and years creations might not possible...... excellent insightful talk
When I go back on my past. It's a video recording. Sometimes I get a smell.
At some point I learned it's become rational and intuitive mind, when you can trust the conclusion the most.
In the Eastern tradition, then, there are many such statements of the impossibility of capturing the source of all things in language.”
― Iain McGilchrist, The Matter With Things: Our Brains, Our Delusions, and the Unmaking of the World
I loved that doc. from yrs. ago, “I Am!” Since then the Heartmath Institute with very reputable scientists have proven the heart actually sends the brain more msg’s than the other way around.
Dr. Gabor Mate ❤ God bless you
The audiobook “the stop drinking expert”
Rich has an incisive intellect but his kindness is even greater. (He was running circles around the guest-IMO)
It would be interesting to look into the effect narcissism has on intuition. My guess is
Steve Job's narcissistic traits clouded the clarity and humility required to truly access intuition.
I am referring to self-managing a pancreatic cancer diagnosis and his unfortunate behavior towards his eldest daughter.
Flow state is our default state, before we were pogrammed
Intuition is not learned knowledge. He spoke a lot about learning trials and then the subconscious’ ability to recognize patterns. Intuition is the ability to to know without prior knowledge, if you’re looking at spiritual texts that explain this concept. It appears that he is talking about experience that gets engrained over time, like programming.
SMILE pushes me toward the logical, rational rather than toward intuitive.
You guys would benefit from reading Sapolskys 'Behave'
That's a big book! 26 hour audiobook 😮
Hahaha. It's better to read it slowly over a couple of days or weeks. @@jaywon06

1:13:30 What over powers me is my creativity.
Interesting, I don’t have vivid mental imagery - fit the model for aphantasia but am also one of the more empathetic people I know 🤷🏻♂️
It's a great podcast and got answers to alot of questions, just trying to deep dive a bit in intuition.
Do you have data to analyse following two things:
1. What is the average ratio of influence from conscious and unconscious emotion in the over all decision making &
😍Awesome content. Looking forward to reading the book. Thank you!
Visual learning was brought up. That idea of learning modes has been debunked for some time and might be a good episode if hasn’t already been!
Intuition isn't about the brain, it's the gut
It’s about consciousness (awareness). The question is who is the speaking to you?
How can I give this man all my money? I need this in my life.
Thanks for this video.
That was awesome 👌 guys loved it ❤
Common sense and intuition seem like super powers in this day and age.
I'd like to hear more from the guest speaker.
Intuition is our most dynamic Ability.
As Intuition is at its Low-Performance level
in our temporary passage, in the Development-
Circuit, it is Not at all understod.
'Build REAL Intuition', 'Brain', and
'the power of the unconscious mind',
de-rails and confuse the understanding.
Dont waste your time.
Reflexive response from experience and mastery is a thing, but that is not intuition. This talk made me go wow zero times.
I am grounded and I meditate I am scared if you're a neuroscience I started off as a girl tired of everything at least once I can get high and study and know intuitively that I am a soul having a temporary experience here on this earth school learning everything I can about everything glad ppl love you guys first time I seen your channel I'm gratefully I can change the channel lol really I'm not critically putting u down or don't mean to sound that way but sorry YOUR WRONG STUDY MORE CONTACT ME STUDY MY BRAIN YOU WILL CHANGE EVERY THING I HAVE HEARD SO FAR BY GUYS 😜
Thanks
Would someone please post the WORD COUNT for Rich the host vs. HIS guest?
The studies mentioned from the movie I Am were from Heartmath
Question your intuition. That's what the intellect does.
This is not an interview. It is a lecture by Joel Pearson and I think he doesn't seem to care about what his expert has to say. He talks way more than he alllows his guest to teach
I think you have the names mixed up but I agree. The guest (Joel) wasnt really given the space to talk
I’ve just been reading about the discovery of neuron brain cells around the top of the heart! Hmmm!
1:12 PTSD is related to having a strong imagery.
Very cool, thank you Rich!
The interesting thing to me is that you refer to the brain as a separate entity than the "person"
The fact that RR is more aware of how “intuition” is hijacked (in such a high percentage of people)than this “expert” seems concerning about his understanding of humans.
When you're a scientist you pick one small area to study and have expertise in and don't have to know everything in the universe to study it.
@@Gypsy218 Your comment makes no sense. This guy should have a full understanding of all the aspects related to the study. They are inherently intertwined.
Was subliminal manipulation outlawed on tv or online.
So, if someone with and without aphantasia read the Neverending Story, some could visualize Phantasia and others could visualize The Nothing?
Who can I reach out to if I'm able to reverse a learning disability and inflate the layers responsible for learning/processing/memory and intuition?
