I have waited a long time for this. Thank you so much for providing these excellent battle reports and keeping the Old World flame burning all those years!
Matt you are having so much fun whit this getting a narrative game to play whit i cant wait to see what else you use all of this for. by the looks of it you forgot the -1 to hit the stalkers and the ward from the Casket spell that would have been big as they would have taken at least 3 less damage
What an awesome battle report. Much better than the GW one, I really appreciated that you both went into detail about how certain rules were updated or changed. Are these the new MWG Forge bases Matt talked about? They look really good! If they aren't I'd love to know how to you got that texture, it looks different from just painted sand.
Same. I'm loving the new combat breaking system. It keeps the game fluid, but enables units to keep fighting a little longer. Plus, 40 zombie tarpits won't be quite as boring to play against. As a vampire player, this is a Good Thing.
I'm just weary of GW's pricing. I had both 40k and Fantasy/AoS and had to drop 40k because of prices and the direction of the game. I kept Fantasy because it's my favorite setting but no one really plays where I am. Hopefully The Old World brings in new players but I'm not keeping my hopes up.
Looks good with new stuff but that LEGACY FACTIONS is concerning especially Vamps, Skavens, Dark Elves.... I am mainly lore buff and army books are my interest and looking at minis, not as much collecting them can't afford. Anyways if they won't get anything new and interesting I'll be very disappointed.
@@CapybaraConnoisseur89 they arent. New article dropped on WarCom. The legacy armies wont get any minis, no ongoing support and wont be tournament legal.
I have been looking forward for this for years. This is what I wanted to play again all that time. Love that you guys are picking it up. But a quick overview of the armies also showed me the insanity of what used to be wfb. Those armies are big there are so many models. There is no way that I'm going to jump back into this without some serious planning to keep it realistic. Painting a killteam is already a challenge nowadays and lets not talk about modern gw prices.
It's worth bearing in mind that this is a pretty large game at 3000 points per side. Armies of 1500-2000 points will be munc more manageable. The TK and Bretonnian starter boxes are each 1250 points, so that gives a good idea what a smaller game will look like.
man im so hyped for old world, its been a long time since ive had that hobby excitement i used to feel back when i was a kid. old world has rekindled that. love the map guys amazing vid appreciate yas!
I love AOS & and 40k, but this is my 1st love ❤️. I'm so excited & hyped for this as I started in 4th edition I have very many happy memories of fantasy. I'll be getting the books & map tomorrow, but holding off minis as a wood elf player in my heart, hopefully sooner rather than later, other armies will be released. I'll still be well on board the hype train until then. 😊
This brings back so much nostalgia, to old MWG fantasy battle reports. I dearly hoped from the thumbnail, that it will be Matt :) Sadly not the player this time, but please next time
WOW, what an AMAZING battle report!!! It was so much fun to watch from beginning to the end. The rules look soo much fun. Finally, GW got a good system for fantasy again! Will sell my AoS Lumineth to buy a Bretonnian old world army. I am soo excited!
A long time ago I watched my first bat rep on a miniature wargame and it was Matt playing someone using the Warhammer starter set. It was elves vs rat men. That video alone set me on a course to play non clix miniature games from that point on.
I love how you got Luca to play the Tombkings xD i picture him not knowing any fantasy at all and not wanting to play at all and you just went "fantasy necrons" and hes at the door before you even finished going "COMEON LETS GO!"
This immediately hones in on what AoS cannot do for me, ground the narrative. I know the stakes, I know the players, I know the place. AoS infinite and shifting realms is great for ass pulling new minis but not so much for being grounded and building stakes. Nice job guys
My God... I'm old. I remember miniwargaming making a 'how to play' with the old WHFB... (dark elves vs tomb kings)... never thought I'd see a new video on a new game
i'm so hyped for old world. I was still pretty young when fantasy died so i never had a chance to play even though i've been watching battle reports for almost 15 years now.
As the dust from numerous thunderous charges from Bretonian cavalry settles, in a nearby local barracks, shouting can be heard for a doctor or surgeon. With only one phrase certain among the commotion... "Cecil lives!"
You guys did a way better battle report than GW. That level of enthusiasm they have is actually obnoxious. You guys have the perfect balance. Unfortunately however, Old World still looks very boring compared with what else is out there in the rank-and-file space.
Oh no doubt, but it's present in their stores, as well, it's why I avoid most GW stores like the plague (though my local is not that bad, tbh).@@idiotproofdalek
Are those Tomb King troops on 25mm bases? Great to see a unit of the OG and better metal Tomb Guard! Just got a unit of them recently for my TK army as I use only models of the original 2003 range in it.
@@Karloss00 A man of immaculate taste! I feel they leaned too heavily in to the Egypt theme after the initial range, it was certainly always there but they had a bit different look to them.

I paid 5$ for all of The triumph and treachery box set, after the end of old-world. So glad I can finally use it, was a really cool display book before
Hmm, the new rules do seem quite great, for me definitely much better than 8th ed but I will keep on playing 6th and 5th alongside the Old World. I'll continue to do my armies with the old bases though as I only use 6th ed and older models anyway. I'm a bit worried about the Tomb Kings seeming a bit bland and weak as my strictly 6th ed Tomb Kings army is my current main army (meaning only 6th ed models, I will play this with them). In 6th Tomb Kings were a very unique and tactical army with their incantations system that could be quite powerful and as fear was very powerful too they are great in that edition. I don’t see those things here, the regen is quite good but the arise ability is quite limited and there’s no way to have full extra movement and attacks like in 6th which made them powerful there due to being able to do maneuvres most others couldn't. Still seems more powerful than in 8th! Hard to tell yet, we’ll see.
This list was put together with a variety of many different options, which did take away from how much magic I was able to bring! With a lot of priests, you can manipulate the armies movement quite a bit, as well as using Arise a lot more!
As a 40k player thats never touched Fantasy, I really want to get into Old World. I cant wait for the launch boxes to sell out to scalper bots before they even go live on the site.
Better off trying to reserve a copy at a brick and mortar hobby store. In the UK element games aren't even selling them online and instead reserved all their allocation for their physical stores to avoid scalpers preordering them all instantly.
ah now i can tap back into my old high elves and finish painting them as soon as i find a store to play old warhammer fantasy...or 40k for that matter.
I can't tell if Brets are overpowered or TK are underpowered yet.. both guys took balanced lists and yet the Brets have so much more damage on their side. Brets also won the warhammer+ game, so... army balance seems a bit suspect...

@@gerritvandenbosch4681 so far TK have shown really low damage output. They might end up being a tar pit army that can slowly grind while replenishing their ranks, but that's never the type of army that wins tournaments...
