I live in this so called "worst part of Boston." This dude is Cap! I've literally walked from Mattapan to Grove Hall, its NOT the worst parts of Boston. Now, MASS AVE(meth mile) and the SOUTH END!? OMG!
This observer drove right pass that area likely because it's the South End he'd have to admit but what is to be expected from an outsider looking in especially if you're looking in an are where blacks are the majority.
I seen in the news just today, the authorities are conducting a raid, I think today at 7 this morning. They'd planned to do it in August I think, but the good old enabling leftist ACLU & their destructive agenda sent threats to the police dept and mayor, they will sue if a clean-up is attempted. These encampments & openly drug abusing tent cities are INHUMANE and CRUEL, NOT CIVILIZED and HARMING those they claim they're protecting their "rights", they are hells and most of them aren't in their right mind. Of course an addict is going to "choose" their drugs and if that means plopping down a tent in the road, so be it because they're not in control anymore. For all of society and themselves, they should be forced help. This affects us all, not just the person, but everyone. Tax payers, neighbors, emergency resources, children, community members, local businesses, health & hygiene, safety, so it's NOT JUST THEIR RIGHTS TO CHOICE, we all pay for it in one way or another. Who the hell chooses this when they're thinking straight and NOT addicted to substances!?! NO ONE!!! Same goes for untreated mental illness, others shouldn't have to suffer due to the ill's choice not to deal with themselves. An there are plenty of those types in public housing authorities. Such places should have more transitional options, and that is what should be encouraged and promoted. Not "You're mentally ill so just rot in your illness here forever driving everybody crazy along with you and never improving you're health or circumstances" and that seems to be the Mass Mantra!!! I was raised between Van Nuys California and Chicopee Massachusetts, and as a dual citizen i must emphasize this: DO NOT ALLOW BOSTON TO BECOME ANOTHER SKID ROW OR TENDERLOIN!!!!! That liberal hippy denial garbage is creating inhumane lunacy & disgust, hells essentially.
@@melissahouse3488 You can't FORCE someone to get clean. As a former addict (11 months clean) you aren't ready until you're ready. But they could have vans taking people to facilities, making reserving a detox bed and getting there so much easier.. ☕
I totally agree. Negative stereotype's drives the insanity that we see on the news and read about everyday. It's also further divided our country by the ignorance of those who perpetrate it.
Well, what you’re not understanding is that Roxbury and mattapan are t two most dangerous parts of Boston and are absolutely considered to be the ghetto. There’s also a lot of white people living in these hoods but don’t be confused, it’s really high crime rate in these neighborhoods he’s driving through
Exactly. Somebody didn't really do their homework. For the most part, Boston's "worst parts" in this video looked orderly, with many nice houses and relatively little trash on the streets. Definitely no comparison between these neighborhoods and others you've shown in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, for example. But more to the point, why are you such a bottom dweller? We should call you the Municipal Sniper. Just because you get more viewers when you do videos about the worst "ghettos" (the word you used in other videos) in various cities, doesn't mean you should stoop to that. I don't think you're doing anybody any favors, including yourself, with this video series.
What a joke lol. I’ve lived in Boston my whole life and this dude makes a video driving down “the worst parts of boston”. Maybe in the 70s and 80s but not anymore. He should have drove to mass Ave and showed the ugliest and crime infested area that no one shows.
@@EvaristeWK That’s true Jane, and Finch are really bad. Hamilton has some rough areas. Don’t know about Vancouver. Don’t forget about Winnipeg. And just outside of Canada Detroit.
The "worst" neighboorhoods in Boston look far better than those in most other cities. I live in New York City, and while I feel like the toughest neigboors in NYC are better than most places in the country, Boston definitely wins in all categories.
Oh good ol' New York City. Where if traffic doesn't kill you some homicidal maniac will. Remember when Jason Voorhes terrorized NY? Oh wait, that was a movie. Got any other of a dozen crazy killing maniacs that are real and have been in the news?
Are you serious? At least know what you are talking about before you do one of these. South Boston is a separate part of Boston, it’s own neighborhood. Mattapan and Roxbury are nowhere near South Boston.
@Sarah G there are many a parts of mattapan roxbury and dorchester that have high crime areas but even in most of these sections theres not alot of burnt out houses, graffiti vacant lots etc etc
You said that mattapan and roxbury are part of south boston (southie). This is untrue. South boston is it's own neighborhood within boston. Mattapan and roxbury are their neighborhoods within boston. Just to be clear. You should do a bit more research
When I see clean streets, walkways, building façades, not that old and well maintained cars, almost no people wandering around, I wouldn’t say it’s a dangerous neighborhood. Are you sure you’re not biased?
@@THEBIGLIE20 I live here. Only reason it looks so nice is because the city has been renovating a lot of properties in these areas now, turning a lot of the triple deckers “deckahs” houses you see into condos & up selling. This area ALWAYS was considered & used to be known for “low income/section 8” Now, A LOT OF PEOPLE who were born & raised here have been bought out of their homes over the last 5-10 years & forced to move out to make way for the “higher income” and/or “richer” people to move in. Only way they could sell to those kind of “market” people is by finally cleaning up the urban parts of Boston. Don’t get it twisted though. On the outside looking in, especially while just driving through these areas during the early day time, they look nice & clean. Let me see you get out of ur car & WALK these same streets later on in the evening & night time hours…HUGE DIFFERENCE
I don't get it. This is supposed to be the worst part of Boston? All the houses seem to be in good repair, most of the cars on the street look to be fairly new, there is hardly any garbage on the streets, and the few visible people seem to be going about normal lives. I don't see any muggers, grapists or shoot outs. So how is this the worst part of Boston? Please explain?
Nick Johnson is putting out so much content he's spread thin. He doesn't know Boston, says right up front he got material off the internet to inform his tour. This route is quite a bit like one or two of CharlieBo313's Boston tours, without the side trips into public housing projects. Nick is on Hosmer and Woolson Streets in Mattapan, just like CharlieBo, and later makes a left off Blue Hill Avenue in Grove Hall just as CharlieBo did a year ago. Learning from Charlie's one-way street mistake, Nick continues across Elm Hill Ave into Ruthven Street, where he eventually gets stuck behind a garbage truck. Someone like Nick taking a quick look at the map would conclude this must be South Boston since it's south of the city center but, of course, anyone who knows Boston knows that Dorchester, Mattapan and Roxbury are not South Boston. Blue Hill Ave has as much claim on "worst part" as any place in Boston; it's been rough there since the neighborhood turned over in the 50s and 60s. But since nothing looks very rough and Nick, unlike Charliebo, doesn't have the skills or the cred to really explore the neighborhoods and talk to people, we don't learn much from his reheated leftovers.
@@BrogeKilrain True. It used to be safe to avoid Baltimore City by going around it on the Beltway but now you don't dare exit the Beltway even if it's just to gas up.
So Nick let me get this straight. You can tell if someone should be at work by looking at them? Your agenda here is quite obvious. Go back to New Hampshire dude.
What's funny is most those areas if he woulda turned the camera he woulda got what he was looking for, but since he didn't have a clue he got nothing. Like when he went past Humbolt at the end to jam himself behind the garbage truck...that was all the Humbolt Raiders area 25 years ago. Woulda been karma for what he's trying to portray
Correction, Mattapan, Roxbury and most of Dorchester is not South Boston. Also, most people who live in this area are good hardworking families like the rest of Boston. It is culturally rich in diversity and has so much historical value that if you do not live here you wouldn't know. Get out of the car and talk with people, go into the places of business and/or historical building before you label a video as the worst parts of Boston. I get what you are doing, but every area in Massachusetts have its less than desirable areas or people; however, you are correct in challenging political leadership to invest more in these areas - and many of our people do, but these neighborhoods often get left behind because of who lives there and are the least to get the attention it deserves.
Most people are hard working people there. But that doesn’t change the fact that you can still get mugged or shot at there. Those neighborhoods have shootings every other day. Especially North Dorchester.
Absolutely. I live a couple of cities away, and I love this part of Boston. Real, down to earth folks, that work hard, many of them are educated in the trades and academics, nice people give the last dollar in their wallet to you or food that you need if you need it. That’s how we roll here.
@@777jones dude please. I worked on a ship in New Bedford. I think i know how they speak. There's been a lot of drugs sure but they get what they get. A lot of scared people all about. Whatever.

These are the worst areas. I grew up I these parts, shootings all the time. It’s just that Boston’s inner city is far nicer-looking and less violent than almost anywhere else in America. Not the worst place in the states to be impoverished.
I’m born & raised from these parts & still reside to this day. The city has started to renovate & “clean up” the city only within the last 5-8 years (give or take, depending on which areas as well) It was WAY MORE worse when I was growing up & all the way up until I turned 27 about a few years ago, then there started to be a lot of “turn around”’so to speak. However, even though these areas he is driving through right now appear to be “clean”, it’s still considered to be a bad area/neighborhood due to all the gang activity & shootings that still take place here day or night (a 14 year old was just killed yesterday during a daytime shooting), robberies/break in’s, prostitution all up & down Blue Hill Avenue, & drug dealing/using. If you’re REALLY from here…u already know what’s up
Hello get your facts straight * Roxbury you cannot buy a home there for under $1 million. Dudley is an area you want to stay clear of. * Dorchester - where The on Bowdoin St. Cape Verdians shoot at each other for target practice is dangerous day and night. Never go to that area. * Mattapan has streets like Wildwood, Woolson and Norfolk were you still have gangs. If you are not in a gang not caught up you will not have any problems living in these areas you pointed out. @1:05 you say "people who look like they should be at work!" Who are you to assume? Why because these are people of color? These areas that you mention are full of hard working, honest, and loving families. Boston is a great city full of wonderful people please do not generalize it.
Yes! When I was younger I had a boyfriend who was affiliated w/ a cv gang over there around bowdoin/hamilton/draper st. We all used to hang out at Ronan Park. A lot of crazy times being over there. To make it worse, I lived over by Uphams corner, which is where there rivals stayed. Not to long after we broke up, I went w/ a friend of mine to a house party on Humphreys St w/ a friend of mine who’s kids father was from Wendover st (she swore I would be fine that she already told him ahead of time I was coming & informed him of our break up that happened recently) Everything was fine the first 30 minutes & I started to relax after having a few drinks & smoking a blunt w/ my friend. I went into the kitchen to grab us a couple of beers from the fridge & next thing I know I went from opening the fridge door to grabbing us a couple of beers, to down on the floor, half my body outside of the backdoor on the porch in snow, to my lower half still being on the kitchen floor. Looking up, there were about 4 guys standing over me w/ guns pointing at me, being screamed at if I was there to try & get information so I could run back to tell him. I started balling & saying over & over again that we broke up. It felt like hours I had guns pointing at me, even though it was probably only 3 minutes, but once I was let up I grabbed my stuff & left! Didn’t even bother looking to find my friend or anything just took off. One of the scariest times of my life.
Not to mention the CV gangs were crazy. Most times they were shooting at their own cousins, but just because they belonged to rival gangs, it didn’t matter. It was killed or be killed
I understand that people are incredulous, but these are the toughest neighborhoods in Boston currently. Specifically along Geneva Ave. However, this is partially because the city of Boston is actually a pretty small area. There are nearby neighborhoods and cities that are comparably dangerous, but are not Boston. Furthermore, Boston is not particularly dangerous in general when compared to cities like Philadelphia, where I lived for 5 years in college. In reality, the most dangerous places in all of Boston are nowhere near this neighborhood. The truly dangerous places in Boston are the pedestrian street from Park Street station to Downtown Crossing after dark, State Street after 2am on nice nights, and the border area of Chinatown and tufts medical center after businesses close.
You definitely should have asked some people who are from Boston before you did this but whatever. The areas you were in are fine actually. You needed to be in certain parts of Dorchester and Chelsea as well as Mass Ave by Boston Medical Center aka Methadone Mile. Either way...at least you tried but it's definitely not correct information.
@@btbees1 The homes are three family , 1 family per floor . In the old days some were one family but that usually included the grand parents on one floor , son and wife and family on another floor . I guess it may have been the only way to purchase a house. I lived in a two family with father inlaw below me . I lived in another one that was an old sea captains home , nice hardwood floors . big windows. They must have been tough to keep warm
At this point, rents have been so high that there's no need to skip renovations and repairs. Many of the poor have been squeezed out due to the extremely high rents. Areas do change. 20 years ago, people would tell you to ABSOLUTELY do not go there.
Go to Franklin field at night or any of these places at night it gets active, he didnt show the worst places in this but It is pretty in the summer and spring
He is in Boston not the "ghetto". He didn't go to the neighborhoods/ streets with gangs. All of Boston is so expensive that you will have a Harvard graduate living next door to a gang member. GENTRIFICATION IS REAL IN BOSTON.
@@jacquir8331 Boston isn’t that expensive compared to LA, San Francisco, NYC especially Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn. LA for example, do you think Boston is more expensive housing than Hollywood Hills or Bel-Air? The point I’m trying to make is that all these other cities I mentioned have Ghettos and they are even more expensive to live in. So, Boston obviously also has ghettos as well but this dude who uploaded the video just refused to post a video where he goes to the dangerous neighborhoods in Boston for some reason.
Born and raised in Boston and there are no bad parts! Every city has there issues ours is the price of living. The materials the houses are built in are old colonial and are super expensive. The banks make it harder for our grandparents to refinance or get assistance for repair before the developers come it and strip us from our neighborhood. I love Boston!
Hey Shaniquekwa...we are heading out to Boston on Thursday with the kids (12, 13 & 15) and we are looking for recommendations on where to visit/eat/hike etc. Any thoughts as a Bostonian? 😃
Went to college in Somerville. Most of the neighborhoods outside of Boston look like this. Crammed like a sardine can. These homes go for 1.5 million now.
Me too. Live my city! Love dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan all of it. People are just ifnorant and scared. Lol He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth clearly. If it’s so bad why so many white people trying to move to these neighborhoods? Smh
Roxbury and Mattapan not worse. City has torn down most of the projects and built town houses for students of the universities and white people moving back into the city. I wonder where the low income and poor went. Rents in the so called worse parts are $1,500 to $2,500 a month for 1 to 2 bedrooms. The average working class families can no longer afford to live in Boston. So where is the worst parts?
The methadone mile is a fairly new addition to Boston. They had to close the biggest area shelter due to an unsafe bridge, this started camping on the street. I hate seeing this in my otherwise clean and safe city. Hate it!
I lived in Boston for 2+ years (wife was in Medical School at the time) and I have lived up and down the East Coast. Boston is BY far the CLEANIEST city I have ever been to and lived. The worst projects would be the suburbs compared to projects in Bmore/DC/Philly. The only thing I disliked about Boston was the amount of hate each neighborhood had for each other. I knew guys who could NOT go certain places JUST because of where they lived and that reason alone.
idk how anyone can take his videos seriously when he literally judges strangers in the beginning insinuating they don't work because they're outside. he makes content for people who hate cities and minorities
You know what I noticed there wasn't a bunch of trash flying down the street. You go down any Street in an urban area like that you're going to see trash and you just did to see it here. Shows the people there have pride in their neighborhood.
That's pretty much how city housing looks like, and you see even the boarded up one is under renovation. People around here tend to like our wooden triple deckers and row houses. Area like this have been gentrified all around the Boston area.
@@scottdonaldson1973 - most are privately owned. There are subsidized housing sprinkled throughout Beantown and project in every town/city of Massachusetts
Ok #1: it’s just BOSTON. The only area we call “SOUTH BOSTON” is actual SOUTH BOSTON aka “SOUTHIE” (which is what it is known as to people who are actually from here. #2 I was born & raised in this area & still live in this area today. Us real locals call these parts the hood & Roxbury is also referred to as “DaBury” & Mattapan is referred to as “Murdapan”
It’s become quite clear that Nick has an agenda. Judging from the comment section of this video, it didn’t work because there are far too many people calling him out on his ridiculous, conservative bullshit nonsense about all cities & all liberal states. Even his commentary in his “Interesting Maps” videos is just “off.” He’s gotta throw his little digs. Anyway, I’m glad the people of the comment section here are calling out his propaganda. The best neighborhood? No, but definitely not the worse.
This guy went online and searched "where do black people live in Boston?" and then made this video lol. Because as someone who live in the city at the time you made this video and still to this day the worst part of Boston is in the south end and Mass ave.. there is literally a tent city there with white people on Meth, it literally nick name methadone mile. There was an article recently of all the money being spent on OT by the police because of this area. But sure Mattapan and Roxbury are the issue.
I know this area well. I used to live in the next town. Is it urban? Yes. So what? Is it densely populated? Yes. So what? Do minorities live there? Yes. So what? Is it vibrant? Yes. Absolutely. How many vacant storefronts did you see? Any? Construction is going on...there are no "slums" in Boston. Yes, some areas are more desirable than others. There are no real estate bargains here. Any bargain will get snapped up like a dollar bill on a sidewalk. The Mass Ave and Melena Cass Boulevard area (a good ride from this neighborhood) needs to be "fixed" but there are drug issues in every major city.
Hi Nick, thanks for the video. Although I moved away over 30 years ago, there were a lot worse areas that I can remember. Maybe they've improved. The absolute worse thing is owning a car and having to park on the street during the winter. Shovel your car out in the morning and shovel a spot to park at night. And the people that put furniture in their spot trying to save it when they came home!
Also when I lived in Boston I met people from Cape Verdia LOTS of them. I have never ever heard of that country before living in Boston and I live in the NY/NJ area for years NOW and have yet to meet one Cape Verdian (do they live in MA exclusively)???
Cape Verdeans live heavily in New England region. They in Boston, Brockton, New Bedford. There's a lot in RI - Pawtucket & Providence, also CT like Norwich & Waterbury.
That's because they were one of those smaller sects of people taken from their home countries and implanted there... Very much why you see just a small population of Cape Verdeans/West Indians in those specific areas most of which rather most of whom actually have been there longer than most of the other Bostonians who claim to have original roots...
South Boston doesn’t look so bad especially when you consider the winters are hard there too. You’ve taken us through much worse looking areas. The businesses are open and cars heading to destinations.
Moved to Boston in the early 90’s from West Philadelphia, folks in Boston have no idea what a ghetto looks like. Boston is small geographically and with a housing shortage, real estate state is expensive. Very few abandoned houses and vacant lots, they are just worth too much to be underutilized.
No folks in Boston don’t care about the ghettos in other cities. It’s always outsiders comparing themselves to us and honestly it’s weird and annoying.
@Sarah G I’m in Roxbury staying at an Airbnb and I’m from Philadelphia. They say this is the hood like stay away from Dudley or Nubian square I think it’s called now? I drove down methadone mile someone else said Mission Hill? So I went there and I not once knew for sure if I was “in the hood” when your in Philly there’s no denying it. You will feel that your in the hood just by looking around you the scenery changes that fast. Prostitution, drugs, guns are all common in Philly and literally even the “better” neighborhoods are ghetto. Philly is a shit hole Boston is literally pristine compared to it. This looks not so rough. I’d like to see this route on a weekend night, but I’d worry about Nick’s safety. Only RUclipsr who can handle the rough stuff at night is Charliebo313 lol but yeah….
This area used to be a lot worse. You couldn’t go 100ft without finding some spent cartridge cases in the gutter. I don’t think there was a building that didn’t have a few bullet holes in it. I’m truly shocked by how nice it looks now. As others have said newmarket square is probably the worst part of Boston today. It’s overrun with junkies but not a war zone like this area used to be.
Next time you decide to explore Boston. Check out the Heath St projects in Jamaica Plain. Then you'll see a poverty stricken not so nice section of Boston.
@Sarah G Tell that to my buddy that was shot in the leg. Then asked for the money. In the Heath St projects in Jamaica plain. Literally next door to Mission Hill.

I'm originally from Mattapan and honestly this brought me back. My childhood was pretty safe surprisingly. Also a lot of drugs were introduced to these cities during Reagan's "War on Drugs". I can go on and on lol. I now live in Oregon waaay on the other side of the US but I'd like to visit again someday.
my father grew up in Mattapan before it really took a nosedive in the 70s. Boston is a nice city, but it's expensive and some areas have homelessness. Crime is challenging to reduce in Boston. Education is good in there (Harvard and others in the Boston metro area).
These areas have historically been underserved by public transit (on purpose). The residents adapted, and now have methods of transportation that's more reliable (Japanese cars)

There are new high rises going up there so it's not all that bad. There are areas that are nice single family houses near the border that you didn't see. I want that building on the right at 6:10
You just lost a lot of credibility with a lot of people. First... South Boston is it's own area. Mattapan and Roxbury are NOT anywhere near South Boston. South Boston is also known as Southie. A lot of the footage you show is actually DORCHESTER, which runs between Roxbury and Mattapan. Again, NOT South Boston. (And not Roxbury and not Mattapan.) Sorry Nick, you got this one completely wrong. Now I wonder what info on your other videos is totally incorrect... like this video is. Unsubcribed...
Lol. I lived 10 miles north of Boston for 15-ish years and commuted into Southie for work for a while and I thought it was a run-down place. After watching videos of Nick driving through the worst parts of other big cities, I see now that Boston and NH are NOT that bad!
The first video you showed you said it was in South Boston. It's not! That is in Mattapan. Get your facts straight before you start naming bad parts of a city.
Boston is a beautiful place. I've lived here for over 12 years now. Originally from Columbia, South Carolina. Now you want to see ghetto look at Columbia S.C
Those are my old stumping ground, now live in Texas. But I walked on Dorchester, mattapam, and even Geneva at night, and never have problems. Was a little more caustious, by mass ave. By Melnea, Roxbury are a lot of cracks heat loving in tent.
I think you missed your mark-like your videos but this one a miss. Dorchester should have made your #1. While Mataram is known as “murderpan” and Roxbury has it’s challenges, all butt up to very rich towns. They are 100% fine during the day. I’ve worked in them for 14 years never had 1 issue never saw anything of concern. To your point, they have much different reputation when the sun goes down. But keep on making vids!
MANY COMMENTS THAT I’ VE READ SAY THAT IT’S NOT SO BAD. IN LOOKING AT IT, IT DOESN’T LOOK AS BAD AS SOME OTHER PLACES. I’M A NATIVE BOSTONIAN. THAT LONG STRETCH OF ROAD HE’S DRIVING THROUGH IS BLUE HILL AVE. AND TAKES YOU THROUGH GROVE HALL, WHERE I LIVE. THE VIOLENCE IN AND AROUND THESEE AREAS, THROUGH THE YEARS, HAS BEEN AWFUL..ESPECIALLY IN MATTAPAN. IN MY AREA, THERE IS A LOT OF DRUGS AND PROSTITUTION, EVEN THOUGH, RECENTLY, I’VE SEEN LESS OF IT, BECAUSE, WE RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN SPEAKING UP ABOUT IT. RIGHT NOW, MASS AND CASS i.e, “METHADONE MILE” IS A BIG CONCERN. EVERY DAY IT IS LOOKING MORE LIKE THE STREETS OF CALIFORNIA. IT IS DISGUSTING!!! WHEN HE DROVE UP THROUGH GEORGIA ST., I SAID OH-OH. THIS LEADS INTO THE GANG AFFILIATED AREAS, LEADING TO HUMBOLT AVE. A STREET THAT HAS BEEN NOTORIOUS FOR MURDER. IT LEADS YOU DEEPER INTO ROXBURY..
thins looks like a nice place to live. modern looking, large and spacious, clean streets. and im from friendly oz. be an honour to grow up in such an aesthetic.
This was a waste of 16 minutes I will never get back in my life. It seems you based this video on conjecture, "MurderPan" (Mattapan), social media, and GPS. You did not connect with us who are actually from "South Boston" Hah! It seems to me you have never been to Boston before you put your phone on your dashboard.
Gary, Indiana would kill for their worst areas to look this nice. I can also tell you the total number of times I saw anyone pressure washing a house in Gary. That would be zero. Pretty sure a lot of the houses would just fall apart if you tried to pressure wash them.
I grew up in Fields Corner in the 50's and 60's. You should have done your homework. Roxbury has had sketchy areas for a long time but you did not drive through them. Mass Ave. Shawmut Ave. Very dangerous at night. Blue Hill Ave and Norfolk St were pretty sketchy in the 70's but it's improved quite a bit since then. Most of those triple deckahs cost in the area of a million bucks so as you can see, people there take pride of ownership. The houses all look freshly painted. No trash on the street. No drugged out sketchy people staggering around. Looks like it was the dead of winter when you went though. And BTW, Southie is a whole different neighborhood and you were quite some ways from there. I live in Portland Oregon now and PDX is waaaaaay more dangerous than Boston.
Nick's video is pretty accurate....Compared to most areas of Boston, the locations he showed are among the worst. Bt if you live in Detroit, Baltimore, Memphis, St Louis, Chicago, etc, you would think the worst areas of Boston are better than your city. Also, most people who live in NH, VT or ME think that most of the crime in New England is all in MA.
None of this is true to understand Boston politics is to understand none of this is true. I lived in all of these areas and more and never ever had an issue
I think that having 4 full seasons with a formidable winter helps keep the streets clean and the bums and homeless on their toes. Compare this to LA or San Francisco.
I really don't see how this could be the WORST part of Boston as everything is in really good shape and freshly painted. There has to be real slums somewhere else .
I grew up in Boston in the 80s and let me tell you, this guy would even dare back then, go down to the 4 corners, get out and walk around especially at night, forget about the daytime.. And then there's the combat zone. Boston is more like a big tourist attraction. Now. There's no real bostonians living there anymore. We all got forced out.

How easy it is to drive thru impoverished areas of your country, and then proclaim your summary judgement, Nick. The Crime rate is what makes it a “ghetto”. Roxbury is the highest crime suburb of Boston.

@@THEBIGLIE20 I live here. Now, A LOT OF PEOPLE who were born & raised here have been bought out of their homes over the last 5-10 years & forced to move out to make way for the “higher income” and/or “richer” people to move in.
Black people live in Roxbury so this guy considers it “ghetto”

* Roxbury you cannot buy a home there for under $1 million.

Not to long after we broke up, I went w/ a friend of mine to a house party on Humphreys St w/ a friend of mine who’s kids father was from Wendover st (she swore I would be fine that she already told him ahead of time I was coming & informed him of our break up that happened recently)
Everything was fine the first 30 minutes & I started to relax after having a few drinks & smoking a blunt w/ my friend.

Nick, I live in Boston. Mattapan and Roxbury are not South Boston.
⁺①⑦⓪⑦⑥④①②⑤①⑤.,,..
You drove by my friends triple decker house..and he was offered 2 plus million $ for it...trust me there is NOTHING in that entire area under 600k
Those are when the fights break out! Move that damn table!!
@@NickJohnson Aint no fights breaking out. You are one of those white boys who are afraid of their own shadow.
@@NickJohnsonhouses anywhere near Boston are still 400k plus and that’s on the cheaper side
Also when I lived in Boston I met people from Cape Verdia LOTS of them. I have never ever heard of that country before living in Boston and I live in the NY/NJ area for years NOW and have yet to meet one Cape Verdian (do they live in MA exclusively)???
Mostly Boston and Brockton
Cape Verdeans live heavily in New England region. They in Boston, Brockton, New Bedford. There's a lot in RI - Pawtucket & Providence, also CT like Norwich & Waterbury.
That's because they were one of those smaller sects of people taken from their home countries and implanted there... Very much why you see just a small population of Cape Verdeans/West Indians in those specific areas most of which rather most of whom actually have been there longer than most of the other Bostonians who claim to have original roots...
SO TRUE. WE DO HAVE A LOT OF CAPE VERDIANS HERE…LOL
Lolol!!! Being from Boston this is hilarious. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 and VERY FICTITIOUS.

South Boston doesn’t look so bad especially when you consider the winters are hard there too. You’ve taken us through much worse looking areas. The businesses are open and cars heading to destinations.
Not South Boston! 🤔
⁺①⑦⓪⑦⑥④①②⑤①⑤.,,.
Nick didn’t come close to South Boston. You can literally eat off the streets there and then go for a swim at the beach
Moved to Boston in the early 90’s from West Philadelphia, folks in Boston have no idea what a ghetto looks like. Boston is small geographically and with a housing shortage, real estate state is expensive. Very few abandoned houses and vacant lots, they are just worth too much to be underutilized.
I am from Boston. I was in West Philly three years ago. Holy crap. There is no comparison.
No folks in Boston don’t care about the ghettos in other cities. It’s always outsiders comparing themselves to us and honestly it’s weird and annoying.
Maybe your right i moved from that area in the video to indian school in phoenix, az
Worst part of Boston have really nice houses... I mean look at those houses at 1:11 those gotta be like over 4,000 sq feet!! Lol I wish I had a house like that.
These are all 3-family homes, and many poor families must double-up to make the high Boston rents.
This looks not so rough. I’d like to see this route on a weekend night, but I’d worry about Nick’s safety. Only RUclipsr who can handle the rough stuff at night is Charliebo313 lol but yeah….
"Probably don't have jobs!" man you're driving around at noon, it's probably either their lunch break or they work the night shift.
There is nothing wrong with this neighborhood. Get a life.
😂😂🤣🤣
This area used to be a lot worse. You couldn’t go 100ft without finding some spent cartridge cases in the gutter. I don’t think there was a building that didn’t have a few bullet holes in it. I’m truly shocked by how nice it looks now. As others have said newmarket square is probably the worst part of Boston today. It’s overrun with junkies but not a war zone like this area used to be.
Next time you decide to explore Boston. Check out the Heath St projects in Jamaica Plain. Then you'll see a poverty stricken not so nice section of Boston.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 don't do that. Or mission hill
Both areas are being gentrified
@Sarah G Tell that to my buddy that was shot in the leg. Then asked for the money. In the Heath St projects in Jamaica plain. Literally next door to Mission Hill.

You are thinking 30 years ago.
I'm originally from Mattapan and honestly this brought me back. My childhood was pretty safe surprisingly. I think a lot of these cities are disporportiantly black and due to "Red line" zoning a lot of blacks were barred from living in certain areas. Also a lot of drugs were introduced to these cities during Reagan's "War on Drugs". I can go on and on lol. I now live in Oregon waaay on the other side of the US but I'd like to visit again someday.
I did the reverse. Pdx now...... wow
my father grew up in Mattapan before it really took a nosedive in the 70s. Like you mentioned the day these neighborhoods aren’t so bad to traverse through but the activity definitely picks up at night. Much of it seems to be culture/gang related, a pretty diverse mix in a poor, dense area. Great video as always!
Interesting!
Exactly..
Not true.. Mattapan/Milton area is pretty nice
@@dwaigntyndal Milton is really nice ..mainly white and middle and upper middle class..then you cross over one street and mattapan(section of boston) looks okay on the n th e outsdie of most homes but still alot of poverty and crime ..alot better than the 80's early 90's crack cocaine war zone it used to be
mattapan was a thriving jewish community until "white flight" of the 60's 70's ..then it became middle class/ poor black and latino, but its coming up , slowly
Boston is a nice city, but it's expensive and some areas have homelessness. Crime is challenging to reduce in Boston. Education is good in there (Harvard and others in the Boston metro area).
Well just by looking at the cars around the town I know what is reliable to buy Toyota, Honda or Nissan.
I wouldn't be surprised if Mass has the highest concentration of Japanese cars of all states.
These areas have historically been underserved by public transit (on purpose). The residents adapted, and now have methods of transportation that's more reliable (Japanese cars)
I am laughing! At 14:04 is where I live on the right. These houses go for 1 million unrenovated! I am from the North Shore and I was scared and it's perfectly fine. Believe it or not the streets and sidewalks a super clean - except for trash day.

If you take a drive through Newark, NJ, I can tell you where the really rough areas are. They look nothing like this.

There are new high rises going up there so it's not all that bad. There are areas that are nice single family houses near the border that you didn't see. I want that building on the right at 6:10

Wow! Compare these to the ‘bad’ areas of Philly or Baltimore!! No comparison.

(And not Roxbury and not Mattapan.)
Sorry Nick, you got this one completely wrong.

Boston is a beautiful place. I've lived here for over 12 years now. Originally from Columbia, South Carolina. Now you want to see ghetto look at Columbia S.C
there are far more killings here in oklahoma city than boston and that is why i want to vacation there sometime.
Sure
thins looks like a nice place to live. modern looking, large and spacious, clean streets. and im from friendly oz. be an honour to grow up in such an aesthetic.

I agree
I can say same thing about my hometown (Small City like) Muskegon, Michigan will kill for theirs as well
I grew up in Fields Corner in the 50's and 60's.
I’ve been to Boston and it’s a lot cleaner than New York City.
Way cleaner than NYC.
sure but dats like sayin its cleaner then the inside o my toiletbowl during my worst case o foodpoisoning...
Boston Rocks! (unless you visit Mass & Cass 😬)
