I Drove Through Boston One Day. This Is What I Saw.

- Downtown Boston was EMPTY. WHY??
For this edition of dashboard tours, I drove through downtown Boston. It was a super day for a drive - a late winter day with highs in the 70s and not a cloud in sight. As we would see, traffic was light, which made getting around town really easy. The day was Monday, March 22, 2021 at 2 pm.
On this route, we’re going to wind through the theater district, hit up the financial district, and parts of north end by the water. As a bonus, we’ll take a peek at Beacon Hill, and Fenway Park, too. This is the exact route I took.
While in Boston I spent time at The Tam, a good ole fashioned Boston watering hole. I also ate some awesome eggrolls at the Corner Pub and hung out with locals at Biddy Early’s. I ALSO got dim sum but forgot to take a picture until it was gone. But the beer was good.

Oh, cool. I love Boston's look. Very old yet very modern at the same time.
You got it!🌝🌝🌝🌝
@@julianmcmillan215
It’s a,ways been eclectic
What is that city like?. I bet it must be very expensive there.
@@anibalcesarnishizk2205 well I've never been there, but it's a very old and historical center. It's got a very dense downtown and has many towns and cities surrounding it (Salem, Lynn, Quincy, Cambridge, etc.). I'm sure it is pretty expensive, but it's a nicer city in the U.S.
@@LeveyHere
Thanks!!!!.
Im from England and this looks very much like a British/European city. The older buildings count towards that but mainly its the layout. American cities all look very similar with the grid system, but Boston just looks like parts of London and Manchester
Yes
Yea the British turned it into New England
I was raised in Boston. When I visited London, parts of it very much felt like “home” to me.
im from boston and yeah ive heard that before
My friend from Poland said the same thing about Boston looks like England and other European Cities.
Watching this from Queensland Australia.
What a stunningly beautiful city Boston is.
Yes
Bostonian here, thank you very much. We are a progressive city in a progressive "state". Massachusetts is actually a Commonwealth not a state. All our collective tax revenue, which is considered high, provides public programs so everyone can live a healthy productive life. This is the city that started this nation. Liberal to the core, but you can clearly see how good that really works.
Stay safe and stay healthy, wishing you all the best.
@@lissette3549 Oh please there are plenty of cruddy places that are sacrificed to keep Boston clean. Nic will have to go to South Station next time so he can see the homeless and panhandlers.
@@CelineNoyce Yes, I understand what you are saying and I often see and hear the more negative side to the world, both here and in the United States.
It is refreshing to see such a clean and beautiful city rather than the ruins which are usually shown.
Boston is a shining example of what we can still aspire to.
@@CelineNoyce oh please what? We have the programs available but you can't force people to use them. That is what I am saying. And if you only focus on the negative all the time then that is all you see and hear! You were just shown a beautiful clean part of the city but yet you had to bring up negativity with your comment. Every city has homeless, good areas and bad too! To put down a beautiful video of Boston by inviting them to see Boston's rougher neighborhoods is not a positive thing to do. Stop bringing negativity to a positive video of Boston.
Boston is such a great city. As many times as I've been there over the years, I had a good visit.
I went there yesterday im from RI so its an hour away went to chinatown had an amazing time walked through downtown had an amazing time but the sad thing is people are disrespectful and throw their trash on the ground when its such a beautiful city
One of the best vacay's i ever had was visiting Boston. Brought back memories thanks Nick!
My parents were both born in the 1920’s and grew up in Boston/Dorchester. They lived through the worst of the Great Depression, yet they have nothing but wonderful family memories. It made them tough. They are both in their 90’s now, and maintain a nice home in Michigan in which they have lived for 50 years.
No matter where I end up.. I’ll always have a love for Boston.. It can be chilly sometimes, but the city is really beautiful. Love this video!
I live in Long Beach, NY and I love going to Boston. It’s a beautiful city that’s easy to walk around and has fun tourist attractions. Wish NY was more like Boston.
New York was fantastic before DeBlasio!
Boston is more relaxed and family oriented.
There are beautiful beaches 30-45 minutes from downtown.
Funny, I wish Boston was more like NYC...
The non-descript parking garage on the right from 8:50 to 8:60 was the location of the notorious "Brinks robbery" in 1950, at the time one of the biggest robberies in US history. The Brinks money counting room was on an upper level. A movie about it called "The Brinks Job" starring Peter Falk was made in the 1970s.
That loop you made could actually take 2 hours pre-pandemic.
I know I was lucky!
@@NickJohnson In normal times, many people use the T instead. It's old, creaky, and decidedly un-European. But most of the time, it's still the fastest way to travel between Downtown, Back Bay, and Cambridge. On-street parking is expensive and often impossible to find unless you have a resident permit. And the slow, non-linear road network (now shared with lots of bikes) brings out the worst in drivers. Frankly I'm amazed there aren't more accidents.
Sometimes 4... trust me
I used to go to Boston frequently in the '80s and early '90s. It's changed a lot! I always loved going there, and walked a lot of it.
This is the first real look I have ever seen of Boston. I have never been there but my husband was born there. It’s beautiful!
Well covid helped
It’s usually filled people walking everywhere.
Boston reminds me of New York City, but a lot more cleaner. I loved going up to Boston.
It’s only clean because of covid
I’ve always said that it’s just a lot smaller. I’m from Boston
It’s like a combination of NYC and Philly.
And just a lot better in every sense.
Winters make all cities NASTY...The pollution is down because HUMANS are not around....IMAGINE THAT!
HUMANS are the most disgusting slobs on the planet...our planet doesnt need us to survive-we need our planet!
Had a very restful time watching it. Starting to love your drive through series
I haven’t been “downtown” in years, and I miss it. Love my Boston ❤️ you know every time you came up to a light, in my head I’m yelling hurry up beat that light, 😂🤣😂
It looks like Downtown Montreal and a clean and quiet New York City
I can attest to Boston and Montreal being similar.
Covid made it quietl
@@julianmcmillan215 If you say so, thanks for your point of view.
Leave NYC out it's trash. And discussing place to live. Bosten top quality.
Nothing does match the tranquility of these pristine streets .. except your gentle and romantic car ride 🤍💚💙
I grew up in Boston. When I visited London ten years ago, parts of it felt and looked very much like “home.” I barely recognize Boston anymore.
What happened exactly? Why do you barely recognize Boston anymore? Has the city changed that much?
@@Ricky911_
It’s changed 3 generations worth. I left in 1965. Many of my landmarks are hidden by tall buildings. Some landmarks are gone. But when I was there visiting a friend some years ago, I was able to drive around my old haunts. Brookline hasn’t changed radically. But Boston city has changed, a lot.
@@lindaterrell5535 yes it has even from when I was growing up in the 80's & 90's
Very well done. Unlike any other city tours I've seen you provided a map of where you're going to go. This is a very helpful touch. Thank you!
Ok!
Boston is beautiful city. For me Boston looks like the most european city in USA
@@mousetreehouse6833 The way Boston was first built during the colonial days was very reminisce of Europe back then. You can see it even around the north end and quincy market area. Montreal is the same way too. So if you ever want to visit a city in Europe but can't afford to travel across the Atlantic, Boston and Montreal is a close as it gets. Maybe Philadelphia but I've never really explored it enough to know for sure. I want to say New York City also but NYC is just a big hot mess.
boston is considered the most european city , in the u.s....but strangely enough , it is not on the list of world class cities but , it has all of the characteritics of one........must have teed off someone who makes the list . didn't even get an honorable mention , like it's sister city seattle , go figger...................
Definitely very European looking. The interior streets.
From boston never thought of it like that till now... Much love from boston good to know u like my hometown
I’m from a European country and I totally agree with you. I really want to visit there someday, seems beautiful!
MA resident here. It's erie how it isn't even busy, due to COVID.
It’s busier than most American cities regularly 😂
This was lovely. It's so hard to actually "see" Boston when you're the one driving, or even being a passenger. I liked that you didn't add music either.
Love me some Boston. The spirit of America. Thank you for this video.
Wow...I didn't expect Boston to be so clean! ...It was the first thing that stood out in the video.
Don't be fooled. The main street at 7:10 is a dump. Homeless are everywhere and it's dirty.
Check out Boston Chinatown and you will see a mess everywhere. The smell is unforgettable. My family lives in Chinatown, Brookline, and Newton.
@@OS-xt9ii Yeah, one street in the whole city of 600k means the whole city is a trash pile
@@dexterjettster3683 that’s just one example. I’ve lived there for years. There’s a homeless shelter and methadone clinic down the block too
Makes me a bit homesick. I use to live in Beacon Hill and Back Bay. It’s creepy how empty the streets are.
Lockdowns destroyed Boston and New York City. Thousands of businesses out of business.
We all at home.
@@containeduniverselow4790 ummmm ok.
It's only because he drove through the financial district. Backba/Newbury Steet areas are still crowded.
@@julianmcmillan215 nobody asked you sir.
Boston's theater district is chopped up. You saw the part with the Opera House but there is another section with three major theaters and other parts of downtown with smaller theaters. I just wish more out of town tryouts came through as they used to do.
I love it. I thought I was playing Fallout for a second. Awesome video👍
Wow, cool! This is actually kind of cool. Coincidentally I was literally in the same kind of areas there by Tufts Medical Center & Theater district/Chinatown a lot on March 16, 18th and 19th and while maybe sometimes going to go get dinner in the North End it was a little bit busier at night that was representative of what it looked like in mid-to-late Mar. 2021 daytime. I think Boston is fascinating and has so many different views/sections to it in a small area!
Boston is spectacular.
It's a beautiful city. The individuals that "thumbs down" are just jealous they are stuck where they live. I've been to every major city and NOTHING compares.
It is a beautiful city. I'm Canadian, and visited Boston about 10 years ago. Loved everything about the city, the people, the shopping, the scenery. Would love to go again!

Seattle used to be clean and pretty like Boston is. This was a pleasure to see. Thank you! 🕶🎯🕶
Hopefully it stays like this!
seattle , is bostons sister city.............
"Thanks" to asinine liberal policies, Seattle is fast becoming an open cesspool, similar to Portland (OR), San Fran, Los Angeles, etc. Boston hasn't gone completely mad (thankfully!), as there is some semblance of law & order in and around the city.

Hello I was went to Boston when the summer after the marathon accident the city is beautiful I had a wonderful trip I enjoyed the symphony in the park the the bay it's just a nice place I wouldn't mind living there Boston is a beautiful place Amen to all Boston
Boston is my favorite city, guess I'm partial towards it since I only live one hour away, been to many Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics games over the years not to mention many of the bars and restaurants, certainly has slowed down a bit due to the pandemic, you pretty much have to be rich to live comfortably in Boston nowadays, The Tam is quite a legendary great bar which has been around for generations.
Love it!! ♥️❤️🐧🛴
The North End is one of my favorite parts of city 10:35. Great shot of the The Prudential Building (The Pru) turning onto Landsdown Street @ 16:45
Never seen boston more quiet and empty, in the summer back before quarantine of 2019, it was like nyc all day every day, nice vid
Thanks, this was fun! As a life long Celtics fan I have always wanted to go to Boston. It is so different than I have imagined.
I went to see the Celtics when I visited Boston circa 2009. Some drunk guy peed on the top stands urine flowed to where I was seated and drenched my coat which had fallen from my seat. When the game ended I put my coat on and I was soaked in urine. I love Boston !
My first glimpse of Boston since my company’s Boston office shut down in early March 2020. Still working from home and it looks like the office will fully reopen either August 1 or September 1. I can tell you on weekday at 2 pm in normal times, the streets and sidewalks are much more crowded than shown here. It looks more like a Sunday afternoon.
Looks like a great city to visit.

That black car backing out one street onto yours right in front of you made me homesick. That doesn’t happen anywhere else.
The drive along Storrow Drive from the Mass Pike to downtown is amazing you should have done that one while you were there
Watch out for mega potholes near the Bowker Overpass.
Boston has one of the greatest cultures of any city in the country. That being said it is very liberal and you gotta have loads of money if you want to live here, even in the not so nice parts. Boston is definitely usually more crowded than this. Traffic can get pretty bad here too, it was once the number one city for traffic. Beautiful city though. There's a reason it's expensive mainly due to all the amenities great hospitals, colleges, history, sports, being on the coast and its atmosphere. It's basically what Philadelphia wishes it was lol.

@@Simbecile well I grew up in Detroit and lived in general in the Midwest for 11 years but I have lived in Houston for 10 years now and to be fair I am kind of sick and tired of the heat and humidity of the South and it being the same damn climate year round I kinda miss that 4 season aesthetic tbh keeps shit interesting tbh
Not to crush your dreams, but do yourself a favour and stay clear of Toronto. Beside the fact that it is a shithole where you can expect to see drugs used in public places at all times like on transit, or experience people have mental breakdowns all day at any time, the cost of living is some of the highest in North America, and the world in general. If you're comfortable spending $2,500 per month renting a one bedroom apartment, plus utilities, then you may make it. Not sure why you would want to, but that's none of my business. People have been fleeing Toronto in droves since 2020, no one but the crazy rich can afford to live there now. Worst yet, these people have moved all over Canada, completely devastating local economies and real estate prices. Canada is in a ferociously shitty state at the moment with insufficient housing to accomodate new residents, and Toronto and Vancouver are the worst of the lot. Stay away for your own good, my man. But don't take it from me, do your research. Just consider yourself duly warned. Best of luck with your degree!
