When I was 15 years old I worked at a movie theater. One of the items on our menu was chicken. The FIRST thing they taught us BEFORE they even let us set foot in the kitchen is that you NEVER mix raw/cooked chicken (or any meat for that matter) and you ALWAYS put cooked meats on the top shelves and raw meet on the bottom shelves. I was a 15 year old earning minimum wage $8/hr and I took pride and care into making sure our customers did not get sick and were served professionally. I cannot believe an entire adult restaurant team oversaw this. Absolute disgrace .

It's annoying that Ramsey had to step in and teach the restaurant owners the obvious (proper food storage and hygiene) while the government should've been doing that in the first place (inspections and all). I guess what governments only care about is collecting taxes and not our personal food safety. What's worse is the lack of remorse and guilt from these criminals.
That's partly the fault of Americans that don't like any kind of government involvement in business. Even the kind that would maintain good standards. In Australia we wouldn't need someone like Gordon shutting these places down, the government would have done it very quickly.
Rest assured any food safety check by any government body would be warned in advance and any violations found have a time limit to remedy. They are next to useless.

At my previous job there was little care for food safety when the inspector wasn't around; and even when the inspector found issues it was always "Fix these things, I'll be back in a week". Couple of "fun" stories: One time the inspector took issue with the lack of hand-washing supplies. Owner blamed the staff for not telling him, despite having been told about it on multiple occasions (we were washing with plain water, and drying with teatowels). Another time, the fridge broke down and he ordered us to use the ingredients (including chicken) that had potentially been at room temp for 20 hours (despite my protests). No regrets about leaving that place. Got tired of banging my head against a wall for fuck-all pay.
@@cass7448 What state was that in? I worked hospitality in Victoria and Sydney and found them to be pretty good with food safety. Victoria was much stricter though and in my experience they wouldn't be back in a week they would give immediate breach notices to fix these issues up.

@BLS. health inspectors are no food testers they dont eat anything. they chek if the cooling temperature of the freezer is right, chek that workers wear thier hairnets and hats(if they have long hair), they check if the workers wear gloves, they dont search for rotton ingredients, but if they find some rotten things laying around or insects in the kitchen then they do whatever needs to be done
Actually we do. My parents own a restaurant and they talk about it all the time. Theres a set range of months between each visit from the inspector and these restaurants are probably extremely lazy in their cleaning, storing food, etc. in the couple of months right after an inspection

It's annoying that Ramsey had to step in and teach the restaurant owners the obvious (proper food storage and hygiene) while the government should've been doing that in the first place (inspections and all). I guess what governments only care about is collecting taxes and not our personal food safety. What's worse is the lack of remorse and guilt from these criminals.
Hoestly in some of these cases Gordon should just alarm the authorities and leave, not help these people to burry their corpses.
That's partly the fault of Americans that don't like any kind of government involvement in business. Even the kind that would maintain good standards.
In Australia we wouldn't need someone like Gordon shutting these places down, the government would have done it very quickly.
Rest assured any food safety check by any government body would be warned in advance and any violations found have a time limit to remedy. They are next to useless.

At my previous job there was little care for food safety when the inspector wasn't around; and even when the inspector found issues it was always "Fix these things, I'll be back in a week".
Couple of "fun" stories: One time the inspector took issue with the lack of hand-washing supplies. Owner blamed the staff for not telling him, despite having been told about it on multiple occasions (we were washing with plain water, and drying with teatowels). Another time, the fridge broke down and he ordered us to use the ingredients (including chicken) that had potentially been at room temp for 20 hours (despite my protests).
No regrets about leaving that place. Got tired of banging my head against a wall for fuck-all pay.
@@cass7448 What state was that in? I worked hospitality in Victoria and Sydney and found them to be pretty good with food safety. Victoria was much stricter though and in my experience they wouldn't be back in a week they would give immediate breach notices to fix these issues up.

@BLS. health inspectors are no food testers they dont eat anything. they chek if the cooling temperature of the freezer is right, chek that workers wear thier hairnets and hats(if they have long hair), they check if the workers wear gloves, they dont search for rotton ingredients, but if they find some rotten things laying around or insects in the kitchen then they do whatever needs to be done

Actually we do. My parents own a restaurant and they talk about it all the time. Theres a set range of months between each visit from the inspector and these restaurants are probably extremely lazy in their cleaning, storing food, etc. in the couple of months right after an inspection

If I was in charge of a restaurant and I knew that Gordon is coming, I would spend from morning till night cleaning everything and making sure everything is in order. Those guys were just asking to be shut down and they deserve it honestly.

Down right disgusting 🤢🤮🤢🤮 this is exactly why I’m leery of privately owned restaurants cause they operate on their own standards. Chain restaurants are subject to quarterly health inspections from the county they’re in and the company’s own health inspection. Not that health code violations don’t happen in chain restaurants but usually nothing like we see on kitchen nightmares, at least definitely not at restaurants I’ve cooked in. It’s scary how there people have NO STANDARDS when dealing with food, especially raw meats. I knew even before i started cooking that raw meat ESPECIALLY chicken should be kept on the bottom shelf so you don’t contaminate other foods!!!!
