- Aquatics expert Tom Sarac provides an in-depth overview of one of the most well-known aquarium fish - the Bronze Corydoras!
A staple in the fishkeeping hobby, Bronze Corydoras are ideal candidates for community aquariums, and can be enjoyed by beginner and experienced hobbyists alike! Native to most of South America, the Bronze Cory should be kept in large groups of its own kind and prefers aquariums with smooth sand substrates. It breeds readily: in most cases, a simple temperature drop is sufficient to induce spawning behaviors. Like other Corydoras, the Bronze Cory helps to keep the aquarium clean due to its constant digging and searching for food through the substrate, which resuspends detritus and debris to be removed by the filter!

The bronze Corey is my favorite catfish. They are constantly rummaging around in the bottom of the tank looking for food and they don't bother any other fish. They have plenty of personality!
We definitely agree! If you'd like, here's a fun video from our partner Oliver Lucanus, showing Bronze Corydoras in the wild: ruclips.net/video/DFQLBFnwaN4/видео.html
Kevin. I agree but so too are Peppered.
These are a favorite of mine too. The color is less than some others but they are VERY hardy and filled with personality. They are also easy to breed among the corys.
We absolutely agree! 😀
I own several Bronze and Albino Corydoras and I really enjoy them. I call them 'everybody's friend', and they really are great community fish. I have 6 in my 55 gallon tank. They aren't picky eaters and as Tom said, they are playful. I put hamster tunnels along the sides of my aquariums and the Cory's play in them more than any of the other fish. I also like watching how they sleep in groups, with equal distance between each of them.

Great video about my absolute favourite fish.
We're glad you enjoyed the video! 😀
Good information all. I haven't looked this deeply into my Bronze Cory's...they've been a a 'must have' in my aquariums for over 30yrs. The blame is on me for not researching them further. I've exclusively placed ONE in each my tanks, now I know better. I'm about to start cycling my first (of two) 15gal Flex's intended to hold only cory's (plural now) and a school of 12+ Neon Tetras. I'm now further considering substrate...thanks for the information. Another demonstration of why I subscribe, and am updating my tank's to exclusively Fluval. My existing small tanks have been donated to my local aquarium society, for use as 'gift-to-kids' tanks. Thanks again :)
Thank you so much, we're thrilled to hear you've enjoyed our videos so much! 😀
Great video.
Thanks! 😊
i have 2 bronze coreys and they.are sooooo cute😊
I recommend you get a bigger school because they do better in a bigger school. Get at least 6 more.
Very Nice comment that you made referring to the colidoras, explaining several details about the fish. 👍👍
1st off those are some beautiful Rummynose Tetra's you have there. Now to the Bronzes, we just had another spawning about a week ago. Right now it looks like about 20 fry. Currently our herd size is 12 Bronzes and 2 Albino. They are going to be moving to a 40 gallon tank in a couple of weeks so I think we will expand the herd to 18-20. We keep our water at pretty much the parameters you mention in the video. Temp 76-78, pH 7.2-7.4, good aeriation, I use pool filter sand for substrate albeit in the new 40 gal. I have added Caribsea Gold Sunset on top of the pool filter (which is off white). I think this will bring out the Bronzes color more. For food we use a varied diet. They love Hikari sinking wafers (small size). They also get Repashy, Brine Shrimp, Tubifex worms, Bloodworms, Extreme Bottom Feeder wafers and flake food if it gets past the livebearers in the tank. My wife and I get a great deal of joy in watching our fish and our Cory's are among our favorites.
That sounds awesome Donald, thanks for sharing! 😊
@@fluval Update... We woke up to a massive spawn this A.M. I counted 411 eggs! Needless to say we have one exhausted female Cory. Don't have room to hatch them all so I just took the thermometer which has about 30 eggs on it and put it in the breeder tank. Let you know what happens.
Long time fav fish
Excellent presentation!
Thank you! 😄
awesome video
Thanks! 🙂

II have 6 Bronze in a 125 with Brilliant Rasporas, Rummy Nose, danios, Male sailfin Molly's, Silver tip Tetras and one bristle nose place. Female is very noticeable in size, next to the males, Always find eggs on the glass after water changes, since I do that with cooler water. I have 7-8 Melini Cory's in a 40B with Cardinal Tetras and Mountain Minnows. Thriving, but they have been a little more delicate than the bronze, and they do not come out and stay out for viewing as well. More timid, I have black sand in the 125 with some Caribsea Peace River gravel tossed on top, and the Peace river in the 40B. Nice small, perfect for cory's; but enough weight to easily vac with the python. I'd love to get more Cory's. Stunning sight to see the whole school come streaming over the drift wood in a big 'herd'
If i have black substrate will the bronze kory cat fish be visible..
Sure! The fish aren't purely black.
Thanks between them and Albino they always give a few fry when I lest expect it,
It's always fun to be surprised by Corydoras eggs on the aquarium glass!
I find when I'm feeding them bloodworm or other frozen food that's when the eggs come. I have stopped for a while as I have so many & being a fish keeper for 46 yrs I am more than happy with the many I have Blessings to you as things are getting more & more insane as I understand what time we are in.@@fluval
weird, our petstore said green corys but they are actually bronze-Corydoras aeneus
Green corys is another name for them! 😊
@@fluval which is confusing because there is also the emerald green cory, which I think is a bit bigger, and that’s what I initially thought I was buying 😃 Love these bronzes though. Very nice color
I've kept all sorts of fish including sensitive ones. What the heck is the reason for my bronze corys always dying within a week? And it's only them nothing else. I've never been able to solve this mystery. No ammonia no nitrites. About 5-10 Nitrate ppm. Stable 6.8 ph. I have no clue why they just drop dead
I have these corys. They are doing great but I can't keep any other corys alive
Substrate
How many are you buying?
Beautiful fish
Uruguay can get pretty chilly
My Serpae Tetras attacked my Corydoras. However, I've had good luck keeping them with Black Skirt Tetras, Black Neon Tetras, Redeye Tetras and even a Bolivian Ram.
You do unfortunately have to be careful with Serpae Tetras, they're one of the worst fin-nippers!

I got first 7 in my 55g (100cm). Well they reproduced in this community tank. Now I have >30. 90% of the bottom is uncovered and they love to put their head into the sand.
I HAVE MY CORY'S IN BARE BOTTOM TANKS...NOBODY EVER TALKS ABOUT THIS.....MY CORYS THRIVE.....I ALWAYS MAKE SURE THEY EAT......I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR OPINION....
You can absolutely keep Corydoras (and most other fish) in bare bottom tanks! Most people prefer to have substrate in their aquariums, and it's fun to watch Corydoras sift through the sand with their snouts, so that's why we spoke mostly about that. 👍
