Engine 49-5 responding to Ephrata for the 4 Alarm Commercial Fire

  • Engine 49-5 was special called to assist with tanker operations. Crews made the response and upon arrival shuttled water for several hours before clearing.

    @Eastbrandywinefirecompany 1:12 i was at that fill site all day and filmed your very own Engine 49-5 returning, thanks to the guy who blew the air horn!
    Ps i was the kid on the side walk. Ask the guys on the truck that day if they saw me, thanks for your service!

    Do FD's still use terms like "4 alarm" in today's era? I listen to calls for my local fire department and have yet to hear 1, 2, 3, or 4 alarm being used.

      All the above and 5a in Chester. Lancaster only go's to 4a

    Just out of curiosity why were porta tanks set up in lieu of using the hydrants? Or was it due to water demand?

      they were originally operating off hydrants but due to demand and I believe a pressure loss they had to switch to porta tanks

    How far away from the fire was the fill site?

      There were 3-4 and at tops may 5 minutes

      ​@johnexford3281 there were Hydrants (actually it was a very Hydranted area) but they used all the water (because they used 1.1 million Gallons of water) and drained a few water towers

    Yea we struck a 8th alarm for tankers for a Huge barnfire
