  • Nashville Independence Day Celebration July 4th 2023
There's a lot of excitement surrounding July 4th in Nashville, Tennessee, and deservedly so!
Rumoured to be the biggest and best Independence Day celebration in the country, even these non-Americans had to see if that was true. We've been to New York City's celebrations, and needed to see how Nashville measured up.
Broadway and many other streets are closed to traffic, so you'll need to get there early to find a good parking spot. We opted for the Library, which was a perfect location for getting to the festivities (but required hours to get out afterwards!).
The entire downtown core is a-buzz with excitement all afternoon long. There's music everywhere, as always, but it felt somehow different. Better! There are food trucks and drink stations lining the main streets, and a Family Fun Zone in Walk of Fame Park with great activities for kids of all ages.
The live music on the main stage was second to none. We started with The War and Treaty who put on a great show. Then some very inclement weather came through causing warnings for everyone to take cover, and potentially cancelling the rest of the show! If people went anywhere, it was into the bars that line Broadway - nobody was missing the headliner, or the fireworks show!
After an hour or so, Brad Paisley hit the main stage and put on an awesome (free) show. Note that many of the Broadway bars sell tickets to their rooftops at big price tags for the show and fireworks. We found that there was no need to partake in that, though almost every bar did sell out. The views from the ground were great, and the city sets up screens so nobody misses any of the action no matter how many blocks away you are. We were fortunate to be near the stage, which was perfect for the concerts, but a little too close for the fireworks show (in our opinion).
Speaking of the fireworks show, this one is unlike any show you'll see anywhere. It's incredible! The Macey's fireworks show in New York is really great, but this one is a spectacle. Picture 5 minutes straight of the best fireworks, set to music (that you can hear), ending in an ear-melting, jaw-dropping finale that will leave you speechless.
Seriously, Nashville lives up to the July 4th hype!
