This is one of the best, most informative videos I have seen. It answers so many of my questions at once. The pacing is excellent! I’m returning to the hobby. I want to build something great, as cheaply as possible. The first time. This really helps. Thanks!!!
I replaced the shocks with metal red anodized red shocks & put 50wt oil in them. Same original length. And I have Injora rims & Hyrax tires. I’m pretty happy right now. I’m going to be getting 2 stag foams or anti foams for it but I looked for anti foams awhile back & couldn’t find any in stock in any brand. Since it’s longer I don’t think you can get metal links yet but I’m sure someone is going to make some & I’m sure you could probably make some for it.
About the AIO receiver, DumboRC makes a 6 channel receiver that has 6 extra 2pin channels for built in light control. Can find them on amazon for like $15-25, I have like 6 of them in scale rigs, they are great little units, helps tidy up wiring so much and the remotes are pretty good too. Think they are the OEM of Radiolink stuff, the receiver looks almost identical as theirs.
I really like the "mod an rtr" format. Be cool to see built, or bought, adjustable shock towers, bushing for bearing swap, and brass parts. Try not to ICFTWB it, lol. Also good to see Adsense rolling in.
The SE has plenty of room for improvement, I'll say that. I still really like the "new" platform (and definitely the Stealth XF) but there is ample room for not just performance improvement, but for correcting the fallout from cost cutting measures.
When my stock TRX4 motor died, I put in a HH Crawlmaster Sport 13t and it didn't seem to have any less torque or speed then the stock 3 slot. Couldn't really tell much diff, but that had the 2 speed. When are you moving the batt up front? Seems like performance win especially with the added weight of some wheels.
Battery up front imminently. I have some more front end tweaking and cleanup to do ( I hope you like SE content, it's gonna be a whole week of it, it feels like) but I don't see any drawback to batt on servo on axle. The HH Sport 13T makes an appearance in a couple of day, it's already been tested in the SE and currently in editing. It's not remotely as bad as I remember, but there are some issues with it's fitment, let's just say.
I’ve heard you mention switching the Element front end link to add more caster angle but I’ve never been able to picture what to do exactly. I’m excited to see a bit more detail on that change, if possible, in a future be installment. I have a Gatekeeper I’d like to try that modification on.
It's coming soon, I've already done it on here and will explain the process, perhaps in a video dedicated ot it specifically-- because now that I think about it, it seems better than just burying in inside another longer, more rambling affair.
I'll check the motor bin to see what turns I've got in there. Untested, I bet a $15 Amazon 45 or 55 turn will demolish that Reedy in terms of performance.
Which seems an odd add to me, when the Rx has dedicated light ports, and those two external ports come out of the ESC itself. I'm all for more options, it just feels like Element knows you're going to replace either the radio or the ESC, so they're ready for it. The G4P must be cheaper than including an XP130, and I can really feel why.
It sure seems like the stock motor is lacking some torque. In the last video that I finally watched this morning, I was thinking the radio and esc were contributors to the lack of low speed speed control. It sure seems like it is more the motor than I thought or remembered. Could it be a motor swap with that 480 could have shown improvement? I'd guess stock motor + 1080 is still better than the 480 + a better motor from the storage box, but we'd know if that 480 is being blamed for the short comings of the stock 5 slot. I guess in the end, it's going to not matter since this is getting an SE. It sure is a rabbit hole though isn't it? 👍 Not sure why but I was pretty excited by the announcement of this truck and I'm really happy to see it showing quite a bit of potential
Not to give away any spoilers, but the lack of oomph and overall mushy feel is indeed a collaboration between all parties involved. But I will say this: of all offenders charged, the Reedy 16T 5-slot 540 is the worst by a mile. It's so, so bad. ANY motor is better. Literally.
The Axles are different. They have a housing with more bracing on the outside, and it now uses a larger pinion bearing (the biggest failure of the older enduro axle)
The ease of setting mesh and swapping motors is IME second to none. I can change a motor-- and I direct-wire all of my brushed motors-- in about 90 seconds.
Yes you could use a expensive controller & it’s not going to help as you found out. I’m using the stock controller with a Hobbywings Fusion Pro the new one & I’m in Heaven & the controller isn’t an issue. It’s changed my SE it’s like a different rig now.
The performance improvement with the Radiolink over the FlySky G4P is marginal, but the ergonomic improvement is immeasurable. My hands don't like that radio.
Nothing can fix an SC480X. It is a problem that can be solved for around 40 dollars. The SC480 is the worst RTR ESC you can get, and it's not even close.
I’ve been watching all of your videos for the past 4+ months and I think they are great. As someone that just ordered a sendero hd, I’m just looking for free options to live with the “ready to replace” electronics. Better yet however as you did, now about $80, you can definitely remedy both of those weak links in one package
@@Js_junkyard oh my friend, if you have it on the way, you GOTTA drive it first on the SC480 + Reedy Crawler. You need to experience it firsthand to know I'm not dealing in hyperbole here. Going from the Element RTR powertrain to a Fusion SE is like getting out of the Flintstone car directly into a Lotus Elise.
I use silicone o-rings that are roughly 4mm ID and 8mm OD, but I bought the 250ct bags so long ago I can't remember the exact sizes-- I think they're #105 (5/32" ID 11/32" OD 1/16" wide.) I prefer silicone over Buna-N, as the rubber ones are usually too high of a shore (too hard.) Amazon has a variety of bags available, but they do that thing where they getcha with the quantity: a bag of 20 is $6.50, and a bag of 120 is $12. So like.. the 120, right? amzn.to/3iOllz6 If you're a McMaster...er? a 50-pack of red silicone will set you back $10.86, item 5233T479
That is a remark that call fall anywhere from "correct" to "extremely correct." Something like RC4WD needs to be completely torn down before driving it, so it's a double-kit that you have to take apart and put back together. Elements have proven to be at least better, but (possible spoiler alert) lemme tell ya this-- the more I peel the layers on the SE onion, the more wild and wacky it gets. With every day of ownership I discover some new head-scratcher.
Listing up the entire electronics package would almost make me feel guilty, because the stuff is SO bad. Baseline is the in-house testbed, so he's not getting a motor that's 50% of his purchase price. The SE will get an SE as soon as HW ships it.
I am so glad I caught this video. Thank you very much sir

Though you said that you don’t like 5-slot motors, for $15-20 give a HH Crawlmaster a chance. I’ve tried a few of them and have no complaints.
I have a couple in the motor bin. Looks like a video is forming itself out of the comments-- Reedy (ugh) vs. whatever I got for $20.
It would be interesting comparing one of those hobby park 3 slot vs the 5slot
I'll check the motor bin to see what turns I've got in there. Untested, I bet a $15 Amazon 45 or 55 turn will demolish that Reedy in terms of performance.
Hahahab called it.
Just told someone yesterday on a budget.
Buy the Sendero and the Hobbywing 10-80. Lol
To funny 😂
The dual auxiliary ports are for lights etc.

The Flysky receiver is probably ANT protocol, should work with the G7P
The Axles are different. They have a housing with more bracing on the outside, and it now uses a larger pinion bearing (the biggest failure of the older enduro axle)
But are the diff covers different?
@@CrawlerCanyon that i dont know
Also great idea!! Eliminate the radio and see what's going on.
Great idea. Awesome video and ideas ❤
That 16t 5 slot 540 doesn't have enough torque, especially as tall as it's geared.
I think going to the smallest pinion possible might help.
Pinion change is imminent. I'll show inside the gearbox in the next installment, and this thing might have the easiest to set gear mesh of all time.
It’s very easy to work on & replacing the motor was so easy it’s like they knew we were going to change it.
The ease of setting mesh and swapping motors is IME second to none. I can change a motor-- and I direct-wire all of my brushed motors-- in about 90 seconds.

I read somewhere that the lag in deadband goes away if you swap motor leads and flip your tx into reverse……
Also it aids in low throttle control. Element claims that is a hobbywing esc

🤣 okay okay. I was going to do that first before replacing anything, but the analogy puts it into real perspective. Thanks for the heads up.
Have a link to the orings for the body post?

Add a $70 Fusion SE and it would be perfect
Ordered on backorder directly from HW, I should have it (hopefully) by mid-month.
Rtr's are just kits that require extra work. And cost. And come with extra parts

Sell the controller receiver motor & Esc & even if you got 50$ put that towards a Fusion Pro. This Is The Way! 😂

In canada a traxxas trx4 gos for 800$ thanks to prime minister justin castro and his taxs and crap.
Good god. That’s pretty bad.
