- It's time to leave the coast behind for a little while and head for Karijini National Park!
We've been looking forward to visiting Karijini for years, and we're finally at her doorstep. Deep in the Pilbara and iron ore country lies one of this country's most stunning areas to explore. Deep gorges, beautiful cool freshwater swimming and spectacular waterfalls await, and we're more excited than a seagull with a chip.
After re-stocking in Port Hedland, we begin our way south towards Karijini on the Great Northern Highway. As the sun continued its gentle descent toward the horizon, we stumbled upon a cracking little roadside camp on the banks of the mostly-dry Yule River.
The following day it's on to Hamersley Gorge, in the northern section of Karijini. This incredible gorge is accessed via a short but steep walk down into a fantastic waterhole. The water was more than a little fresh, but we had a great time exploring the lower gorge. A packed dinner meant we could stay and enjoy the gorge until late afternoon.
That night we enjoyed one of the best free camps we've been to yet! Set high up on the range, we were rewarded with a stunning Karijini sunset and had the place all to ourselves!
Join us next week as we explore the rest of Karijini National Park and discover some absolute gems.

Thanks, Trevor 👊
Great episode when you were in Hammersley Gorge did go up stream to the Spa pool. We there about 20 years ago that area was our back yard for 15 years then. looking forward to see where you go next. Bring back good memories.
Thanks, Craig. Simon went up to the Spa pool for a look but it was busy and a bit of a knarly climb up with the kids. We had the bottom pool almost to ourselves for most of the arvo.
Happy 6th wedding anniversary. We've watched your RUclips videos from day 1 and look forward to them every week. Thanks so much for the big effort you put into them. Cheers and all the best for the next 6 years and beyond.

Beautiful views!!
I sometimes binge watch your episodes when I'm at work! Go the binge watchers😎
Also what's the music playing in the first 5-10mins?
Happy anniversary guys!!
Thanks so much. That's great to hear. Our opening music is Venetian Blinds by Mattias Tell 👍
That's in my playlist now thanks guys!
There's a nice slide guitar number @6min 30sec mark of this video. Do you have a title for that one please?
Really digging your choice of music!!😎
Now you're testing me 😄Pretty sure the one you mean is by Mattias as well. It's called Cotton Candy Armor 👍🍻
Stunning episode again guys! You are a lovely couple.. safe travels! Cheers guys 🤙🏼
Thanks for all your support. Appreciate it.
Gday guys. Happy anniversary. No better place to celebrate. Have been binge watching your vids. Just like you Liz. We will be in WA next year in our Zone (one of the last base’s to roll of the line. Did you need to run the air? How long do you spend in Karajini? Have same power set up as you. After 6yrs in the camper this is going to be luxury. Look forward to next Sunday. Safe travels.
Thanks, Jeff. Exciting times with your new Zone! We do occaisionally run the air for an hour or 2 when off grid, particularly when we're resting in the middle of the day. We were in Karijini for 5 nights in total (including Hamersley)
Love the magnificent scenery. Its reliving old memories for me.Are you intending to visit Steep Point on your way south? Safe traveling. DB
That's great to hear, Denis. We don't plan to head to Steep Point this trip.
Another great episode guys! Love watching your travels 😃
Thanks, Leesa!
Happy Anniversary. Glad you did not listen to gossiper Karen. You are responsible parents.
Thanks, Graham. We knew we were doing the right thing, but some people can't help themselves 😄
Happy Anniversary...One of my favourite places in WA, soo many more stunning walks to go. Hope you enjoy. I went in June and decided to jump into each water body as we visited each gorge. Brrrr but soo worthit!
Thanks, Cath. Totally agree!
Omg Hammersley gorge my favourite place youve been yet, absolutely amazing!! The rock formations were such great colours. 🙂😍 and happy anniversary. 🥂🌹🌹🌹
Thanks, Cheryl. It's an absolute highlight for us too!
Happy Anniversary guys and what a perfect setting for it! And also Happy Mothers Day Liz - hope the boys found some flowers for you
Yes! Thank you!
Hey guys, loving the vids! Adding to our bucket list a lot 🤣 just wondering if you have a video on your power set up? 😁
Thanks guys. Power video is coming soon!
Hi Guys
Love your videos. Watching your journey and planning ours. I have a Ford Everest with the same engine and transmission as your Ranger. Did you put and aftermarket transmission oil cooler in it? Keep up the good vids -we love them. cheers Greg
Thanks Greg. We don't have a trans cooler, but I think they're a good idea for peace of mind.
Thanks Simon that gives me confidence in my vehicle
Great stuff guys got a caravan on order myself. Quick question about your fridge, 3 way or 12/24v and your opinion would be appreciated 👍
Sounds great! Ours is 12v which works well for us. 3 way are good if you don't have a large battery bank, but tend to struggle more in the tropics
Thanks guys 👏🏻I guess different question what time is sunset or dark over in WA just there has been a few comments from other travellers about how late the daylight is when they get to SA or VIC thanks
It depends on time of year I guess, but they don't have daylight saving time over there. We were there in Spring and it was dark around 7.30-8pm from memory?
Hahaha, the lady questioning you about going into Karijini name wasn’t Karen by any chance? 🤣
😄 Some people just have to stick their nose in!
Simon? Grumpy? Never
Not grumpy, just disappointed 😉
