Man, you beat me to saying that- what interesting, unconventional drum patterns; goes without saying PJ was great, I dug the fretless bass. A great band.
PJ Harvey is best songwriter/lyricist of her era and one of the best EVER! Here are 3 fuckin great examples of brilliant lyrics! Dry, Rid of Me, To Bring Me Your Love, Is This Desire?, Stories..., Uh Huh Her, White Chalk, and lastly Let England Shake, all fuckin masterpieces!
Just incredible how many masterpieces of such a WIDE RANGE she's produced. And she's never quit! From DRY, to Let England Shake, so fucking insane how much she's done. Truly the greatest.
Not only she's great, the band is stunning. Rob Ellis is one of the best rock drummers ever, arguably the best in his generation, and the only one for Polly's songs with their complex inner rhythmic structures. Together they ROCK!
I have a Google Calendar reminder to play “Wang Dang” by Bob Destiny every 6th January. I only allow myself to play it twice a year because I never want to lose the thrill I get from hearing it.
Pj still is a force to be listened to. I must introduce this amazing woman to my 13 year old nieces before they get consumed by the awful pretence that invades their young minds, I.e it’s what you look like that matters. This is pure and talent unsurpassed, and unmanufactured. Could it be a generational thing, I’m not sure. Aurora is great too....for example. But I worry.... that everything will be manicured in future not raw and real.....I’m boring myself now xxx
This is the version of the PJ and the band that I miss. Just plain powerful and in your face. Oh, it's a Gretsch she's playing here. She used this guitar a lot for the first few albums and tours.
Hard not to miss it. It used to be enough to be a great musician making great music, but now bands have to do social media amd “engage” their fans to stay relevant bc of people’s attention spans.
Polly's quite an underrated guitar player, although she said she doesn't consider herself an instrumentalist, she is quite a talented blues player, I wouldn't be surprised if Jack White was somewhat influenced by her.
+Andersi Actually she's very good at guitar. She may not be able to solo, I'm not sure, but she wrote every single guitar riff in her songs. A bad guitar player wouldn't be able to play what she does. You don't need to play like Malmsteen in order to be a great player.
Andersi: That is a comment you edited. You wrote a first draft of it, then you said “let me make it perfect”. And you’re dead wrong about Polly not being a good guitar player. She’s a rhythm player in a power trio, and a singer/songwriter who sings as she plays. You seem to think she should also be wanking on the G & B strings at the same time. There is no way to improve upon the parts she plays in her songs; her rhythm technique is perfect.
One of my all time favourite artists! Bloody brilliant! I was there... Sweet 17... And mangled in the mosh pit! I didn't know a recording existed! bless you You tube! Mi adolescence has flashed in front of mi eyes... And it isn't pretty! Heh heh heh!
I`ve see Polly Jean Harvey 1993 in Hamburg, Große Freiheit, and a few Weeks later Velvet Underground in Hamburg, too... These Concerts had changed my life...
Agree with BossGuitars, love this trio (Ellis is fantastic). Just saw her and Parish live and liked it of course, but really wanted to hear the band unleash on a few of her earlier classics. Anyway, thanks for posting this video!
why the crowd isn't throwing themselves and hurling themselves all at each other - I do not know!!!???!!! they remind me of seattle crowds.... just standing there even at punk shows. PJ is the QUEEN of all creation!!! Thanks for posting.
Hair Samson The strength That′s in your arms Oh to be Your stunning bride Samson Your hair Glistening like sun Oh would That it were mine Samson Your hair That's in my hands I′ll keep it safe You're mine You're mine He said wait Said wait Delilah, my babe Delilah, my babe Said wait Said wait Delilah, my babe Delilah, my babe Said wait Said wait Delilah, my babe You lied in my face You cut off my hair You lied in my bed Samson Your stay With your ′lilah I′ll hold you in my hands Your hair Your strength My man My man He said wait Said wait Delilah, my babe Delilah, my babe Said wait Said wait Delilah, my babe Delilah, my babe He said wait Said wait Delilah, my babe Delilah, my babe Said wait Said wait Delilah, my babe You lied in my face You cut off my hair You lied in my bed
it's hard to think i was 7 years old when PJ was doing her stuff already, I honestly think there is no other contemporary musician that is anywhere near her, even bjork. Just my opinion though.
WHAT A FIRST LP PLEASE POLLY RETURN TO THIS STYLE JUST FOR A RECORD. NOT SO EXPERIMENTATION. MORE SHARP GUITAR AND SIMPLER BUT SHARPER RIFFS WE WANT TO MOVE WITH YOUR VOICE SINGING LIKE YOU DO IN DRESS
this is the style tht fits to polly sharp alternative sound, with guitars playing the the most important role. for so many years now she is experimenting but we have not yet heard a song to make us shiver like dress did!!!! POLLY GO BACK TO ELECTRICITY AND WE SHALL FOLLOW
and had she remained the same all of you fans would be the same ones griping that she's become stagnant and formulamatic or worse....irrelevant. i thank my lucky stars this woman is still challenging herself as an artist and us as listeners....making vital, compelling work that still gets lauded after 25+ years when so many from her era either died, sold out for commerce and celebrity(liz phair and courtney love for instance) or simply faded into fairground touring oblivion. and ps i am no millennial newbie...she's been in my life since the day i saw her on 120 minutes in 1993. i've just learned how to open my headspace and appreciate that she's not a one-trick pony.
PJ knows how to write songs, sing, play guitar, move on stage...PJ is totally authentic...
She is ultimately captivating
Incredible drumming
That drummer… what a killer.
I believe he's Rob Ellis
He's fantastic. This whole three-piece line-up is just perfect.
Man, you beat me to saying that- what interesting, unconventional drum patterns; goes without saying PJ was great, I dug the fretless bass. A great band.

Maybe, the most important female artist in rock music history..........
Underated she rocks man I always had her lurking in my shadows but only recently did I realize just how talented she is
@@willmartins168 Hell yes!
Or maybe Patti Smith?
Gar Sm Patti is amazing but I gotta say Pj is beyond anything else . Nothing like this at the time really . She still keeps on giving . Unbelievable
@@garsm2290 Agree and Lucinda Williams, JoanJett.

Man, this rocks. When you're bad-ass and you have a bad-ass rhythm section, you need nothing more.
Stella Marie, you’re my star. 30 years later & this still sounds so fresh! Never gets old
I really loved this line-up. Only a three piece, but has such a rich and bombastic sound. Hair is a favorite of mine.
Ugh this band was so so so good.
Rob Ellis delivers signature performances on every track of PJ Harvey's 'Dry' album. Truly underrated.
i'm 70 effin years old and this woman rocks
What a great voice and charisma ! And she was only 23
Stella's riff is hard to forget love it
Ellis was the best drummer she ever had.
Damn. 26 years i have these songs rockin in my head.
Let’s not forget the fantastic rhythm section Polly had back in those days. Added an integral complexity to the music.
Pj still is a force to be listened to. I must introduce this amazing woman to my 13 year old nieces before they get consumed by the awful pretence that invades their young minds, I.e it’s what you look like that matters. This is pure and talent unsurpassed, and unmanufactured.

When you try to show good music to young people these days all you get is “ok boomer “
Good shout, Claire Turner
This is the version of the PJ and the band that I miss. Just plain powerful and in your face. Oh, it's a Gretsch she's playing here. She used this guitar a lot for the first few albums and tours.
There is was this kind of era... And i miss it... Kind a.
Hard not to miss it. It used to be enough to be a great musician making great music, but now bands have to do social media amd “engage” their fans to stay relevant bc of people’s attention spans.
How do I know a band rocks? listen to them live. What a powerful voice!
Raw. BEAUTIFUL.
LOVE POLLY JEAN HARVEY!
Polly's quite an underrated guitar player, although she said she doesn't consider herself an instrumentalist, she is quite a talented blues player, I wouldn't be surprised if Jack White was somewhat influenced by her.
Bullshit, she is not a good guitar player. She i just extremely good atanything else than guitaring.
This, not saying that it is sounding bad.
+Andersi Actually she's very good at guitar. She may not be able to solo, I'm not sure, but she wrote every single guitar riff in her songs. A bad guitar player wouldn't be able to play what she does. You don't need to play like Malmsteen in order to be a great player.
her ability to sing and play is amazing. pretty complicated lines executed flawlessly on both guitars and vocals.
Look for the "dress" vid and praise her...

Just love PJ Harvey and this album in particular!

just seen her two nights ago.. still love her.
Great drums.
I`ve see Polly Jean Harvey 1993 in Hamburg, Große Freiheit, and a few Weeks later Velvet Underground in Hamburg, too... These Concerts had changed my life...
PJ Harvey the queen of rock & roll
incredible drummer too
I get goosebumps listening to this.
The riffs in this song are just MMM!
P.J. was, is, and will always be BADASS!
i got to see her at the commodore ballroom in Vancouver BC, during her Rid Of Me tour. Stood beside her while she was watching the opening act
Année 1992, année de la découverte de PJ Harvey pour ma part et je n'ai pas trouvé mieux depuis !
Nice to see Mr Parish playing drums like a god...
Nothing else to compare, for sure!
Rob Ellis is the drummer.
Agree with BossGuitars, love this trio (Ellis is fantastic). Just saw her and Parish live and liked it of course, but really wanted to hear the band unleash on a few of her earlier classics. Anyway, thanks for posting this video!
a Rainha do Rock Alternativo
I love pinkpop and PJ! great combination :-D
Fantastic!!!!!!1
I was there, it was the best Pinkpop ever ever ever! Not only because of the epic Pearl Jam performance, Polly made my day!
I saw her perform at this specific festival...damn what a show, what a time
pj harvey forever :)
why the crowd isn't throwing themselves and hurling themselves all at each other - I do not know!!!???!!! they remind me of seattle crowds.... just standing there even at punk shows.

stunning PJ performance, thank you for this post
O Polly Jean you're my star
Thanks for this upload!! Amazing era in amazing artist's life.
I love you baby! you rock.
Anyone spot how she seamlessly starts the next song at 2.31? Perfect tempo. Proper stage craft and musicianship.
How such a little woman could pull a majestic sound out from that big guitar.
Cool. Never seen "Hair" live before. Thanks for the upload.
it's hard to think i was 7 years old when PJ was doing her stuff already, I honestly think there is no other contemporary musician that is anywhere near her, even bjork. Just my opinion though.
i still think bjork gets the top spot
Bjork was more interesting with The Sugarcubes. Polly Jean Harvey wins no doubt!
Amazing, as always!
That guitar makes her look so small. She is badass.
The truly great Rob Ellis. Produced albums by Anna Calvi and 2:54. Currently touring with Cold Specks.
AH PJ the fucking LEGEND, heehee let it roll
I found out of PJ through skateboarder's in my hometown
Thanks
@Sberry2008101
It was Pinkpop 1992 The Netherlands

fucking great
BLOODY. Fantastic.kill
I watch these clips whilst spastic in a wheelchair, I feel like self immolating, with my headset pouring out flammable ear wax.
She is more talented than any man I've ever seen/heard.

for so many years now she is experimenting but we have not yet heard a song to make us shiver like dress did!!!!
POLLY GO BACK TO ELECTRICITY AND WE SHALL FOLLOW
Speak for yourself geezer, her concerts are sold out.
if their concerts are sold out with people like you Polly has no future
and had she remained the same all of you fans would be the same ones griping that she's become stagnant and formulamatic or worse....irrelevant. i thank my lucky stars this woman is still challenging herself as an artist and us as listeners....making vital, compelling work that still gets lauded after 25+ years when so many from her era either died, sold out for commerce and celebrity(liz phair and courtney love for instance) or simply faded into fairground touring oblivion. and ps i am no millennial newbie...she's been in my life since the day i saw her on 120 minutes in 1993. i've just learned how to open my headspace and appreciate that she's not a one-trick pony.
@tcdowning666 it looked like it was raining and people had umbrellas out... perhaps people were just trying to stay warm.
Polly Jean- you're my star!!!
triple hit combo
Never heard her play with this amount of distortion before.
if u put it onnnnn. if u put it onnnnnnnnn. nice guitars........
From comments I guess it is Robert Ellis.
Billy Eiliesh this is what it sounds like.
plays guitar better than all the boys
The day you gave him his leather jacket back xxxx.
@ResistReact
maybe she's bisexual, if she dated nick cave. i've heard, she also dated to beth gibbons from "portishead" ;)
92 ? looks like its raining. 92 was red hot! no need for brollies
I think that's filmed at Reading festival. If so I'm in that crowd somewhere.
Pinkpop Festival 1992, The Netherlands
I was 10.
Oh never mind the two Kim's, Kim Deal and Kim Gordon. ;)
Parece q na O Stella tem uma segunda guitarra ...!!!!!
What kind of guitar is it? Anyone know? 😋
A Gretsch Broadkaster 7609, manufactured in the mid 70s.
A bad ass guitar 🎸
Where was this? The weather makes me think UK.
