@@Knight-xc2tt Repeated heating causes the metal to weaken and then it cracks. You do not have to heat it high enough to fail if you repeat the process enough times. I had a Smokey Joe that failed after 15 years because of heat stress. In that time I burnt out two grill grates.
@@epistte I agree with the science behind your statement, it's correct. However, I have a kettle that was passed down to me that is 40 years old and is fine. The grate was replaced 15 years ago. It sees regular use year in and out.
@@Knight-xc2tt I bought that grill during my sophomore year in college and used it all year round, often twice a week, even in northern winters. The apartment had a covered porch so it was protected from the winter when not in use. My everyday grill is now a Jumbo Joe and it gets used year round, even when I have to shovel a place on the patio to light it. The neighbors think that it's funny that even when there is 24" of snow on the ground I will almost always light the grill for Saturday night dinner. Grilled food tastes especially good in the winter.
That’s NOT a bar be que. that’s a GRILL. barbecue is low heat for several hours usually six hours, eight hours, and sometimes more. That device is called a grill. The activity is called grilling. You use high heat for a short amount of time..

Pretty sure Cavemen were the first barbecuers... but ya know, whatever...
That's a grill. Barbeque is smoked meat made in a pit and not a grill.
