Listening through the early Boingo discography, Cab's influence on Danny is apparent if you look for it. Totally explains his wild and animated inflections.

This was during the undercurrent of Rocky Horror, David Bowie, in Los Angeles Frank Zappa's presence still looming over the alternative scene and all sorts of straight and gay discos, clubs, vestiges of the swing scene, The Groundlings for comedy, and dying stars from the original era of film. Like Zappa, Elfman was just as able to conduct a symphony orchestra as turn out Avant Garde music some thought was not listenable. He had to shed some of this to become commercially successful. Apparently, the Mystic Knights shows were quite expensive with a large band, costumes, odd chorography, and sets. I am deeply saddened I only caught up with them when they were Oingo Boingo.
Deeply saddened. I feel you. I was just around 12, 13,14 years old and couldn't quite pull off sneaking into the late night clubs in LA. Lord knows my big sister tried! 😂 I was able to successfully sneak in at 16, and they had "shed some of the show," but, as you know, it was still amazing. I didn't know where this clip was from and when I got my Forbidden Zone dvd, I almost passed out! I absolutely love this, THIS is what I want to remember Danny Eflman by, he's perfect!
