    What a voice! I love how he differentiates the approach, almost lyric by lyric, to paint a picture of the character's crazy despair and deranged self affirmation. I don’t get why this doesn’t have millions of views this is the most fantastic rendition of St James infirmary blues. You can just see how much fun he has singing it and I think if you aren’t having fun singing why sing at all? Sure we have our fair share of sad songs that are good but they just don’t compare to how upbeat a happy song like this is. I think a lot of people have forgot just how amazing Cab’s pitch control is.

    Folks, I'm goin' down to St. James Infirmary,
    See my baby there;
    She's stretched out on a long, white table,
    She's so sweet, so cold, so fair.
    Let her go, let her go, God bless her,
    Wherever she may be,
    She will search this wide world over,
    But she'll never find another sweet man like me.
    Now, when I die, bury me in my straight-leg britches,
    Put on a box-back coat and a stetson hat,
    Put a twenty-dollar gold piece on my watch chain,
    So you can let all the boys know I died standing pat.
    An' give me six crap shooting pall bearers,
    Let a chorus girl sing me a song.
    Put a red hot jazz band at the top of my head
    So we can raise Hallelujah as we go along.
    Folks, now that you have heard my story,
    Say, boy, hand me over another shot of that booze;

    Back when doing "The Sullivan Show" meant anyone who owned a TV saw you that night. What an amazing, original performer and one who understood the medium of television to connect with the millions of viewers at home. What a SHOWMAN!!

    When I was a kid Grandma & my parents made me watch this. THANK YOU GOD FOR MY FAMILY. They informed my taste in music just as I informed my son’s musical taste. RIP to all my loved ones & Cab Calloway ❤️💔.

    I prefer the Louis Armstrong versions (and the version by the White Stripes), and High Laurie has a surprisingly good version as well.
