Danny full of class, bluntness, insight and humor. The man was known as rock legend but will be remembered as a virtuoso composer long after we are all dead and gone.
I was 10 when this movie came out. I remember standing in line at the movie theater to see it. It totally amazed me and I've loved it ever since. It was perfect for us weird kids who loved horror as children. Long live the Pumpkin King!
I saw Oingo Boingo at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium when I was in high school (Santa Cruz, Yes, in the 80’s.) Years later I graduated from Mills College (Oakland, CA and American University, D.C.) when The Nightmare Before Christmas was released in D.C. You have affected my life in so many positive ways. Thank you.
I seriously hope that Danny Elfman realizes that HIS MUSIC is what saved this movie.....I would never have known it existed if I weren't hunting Elfman music, and it was the first inkling I had that he was still alive--and that he's started doing movie soundtracks. I LOVE IT!! I love almost everything Elfman has EVER done, but this is truly special.
This was my favorite movie when I was a kid. I was born in 91 and as a very young child was dancing on the table singing these songs. My whole family thought it was weird and I was weird but I absolutely love it still to this day. Happy Halloween
Good to see there were so many Boingo fans there (even a Forbidden Zone shout-out)! I know I would have embarrassed myself just as much, asking questions about the old stuff and fanboying out. I'm young enough that I missed out on the Oingo Boingo days, so I jumped at the opportunity to see him at Lincoln Center, and I'm seeing him on Thursday, too - I loved hearing about his positive feelings toward New York, because New York clearly adores him back and we're thrilled to have him any old time. Danny is a gracious and insightful interviewee - thanks for posting this video!
Seems like Nightmare Before Christmas was a movie a head of it's time, for it to have taken a decade to take off like it has. Would love to see them do The Nightmare Before Christmas in concert if they still do it.
I still remember the first time i saw this movie, it even didn't have the Disney logo. At that time it had been released under the Touchtone Pictures label. Disney had no confidence on this jem! Since the movie has gaigned quite a reputation Disney decided to released with its own label.
Here us kids are nearing 30 years later and we are buying that merch like crazy and our kids have no idea why we are in love with this movie and its characters... I race rc cars for fun and jack is on the roof of all my cars i have art of jack and sally all around my house my girl friend has a custom ring that has simply meant to be engraved on it
It was 2018 when he gave this interview and there are somethings that he said that aged badly (thank God!). Because he did release solo album in 2021. He even came back to performing Oingo Boingo stuff which means that his hearing got better. He even had an reuinion with Steve Bartek. Never say never.
Seems like a really smart guy, not just creatively but with people too, and very understanding of them. I was pretty impressed when he said he turned down a collaboration with Prince, not because he didn't appreciate him, but because he just knew he wouldn't be able to follow his vision. I can see how that would've raised some eyebrows and cost him but I'm glad he was asked back later :)
Blows my mind this wasn't a hit when it came out. I was born in 93 and would watch this movie at about 5 years old. It was by far and still probably is my favorite movie. I played it so many times that tape inside of the vhs broke and my mom had to buy me a new copy. I've shown all three of my kids this movie and they all also love it. Especially my son.
Nightmare Before Christmas, Galaxy Quest, Shawshank Redemption and Emperor's New Groove are classic examples of films that became classics long after their disappointing or modest theatrical run.
There are two iconic super hero themes, Superman by JW and Batman by Danny. Ever since those two themes came out, there has never been a better theme for either one and probably never will be
There was a different approach for sure, but the wordier, uptempo tunes inherited some of the Boingo DNA from stuff like No One Lives Forever etc. And even the slower, more melancholy Nightmare material had echoes of songs like Go Away from So-Lo.
He sure looked annoyed when the interviewer brought up Oingo Boingo, especially when the dude kept bringing it up, trying to tie Little Girls to Kurt Weill.
Lol, you can take the performer out of the circus, but the circus out of the performer? I would hope not. And good luck with that impish grin. You'll be letting it out to play several times since this interview - if only you knew your ears would again face those monitors in Spring 2022. 😆👽🤖🎃😈👹 P.S. - you do seem to age in reverse, you do the set shirtless, long, thick hair and I thought they had got someone else to front. Or the date was wrong, but it's you. See you in 2022 - and this time, when Isabella Rosalini offers you that vial say no!
First of all, I like danny I'm a big fan of his and he's a very nice guy, but we can't use the same themes from Star Wars over and over again, I'm already sick of those themes and they need to change!
This dinosaur streetshark looking guy ruined the justice league soundtrack. On top of all the issues with JUSTICE League, his soundtrack was absolute GARBAGE.
Absolute garbage I'll disagree with, although to say it was GREAT is also uhhh... nahh! There was a lot left to be desired. Also 'dinosaur streetshark' made me inhale my coffee :') christ

Him yelling "FUCK IT UP" in a southern accent will NEVER not be hilarious

Danny Elfman is a genius in every sense of the word.
I was 10 when this movie came out. I remember standing in line at the movie theater to see it. It totally amazed me and I've loved it ever since. It was perfect for us weird kids who loved horror as children.
Long live the Pumpkin King!
I could listen to him talk for hours.

I loved this when it came out!!! Always play this every Halloween and Christmas… and now it’s my kids
One of the best interviews I’ve watched in a long time. ✌🏽

I Do As Well!
I Have The Very Old DVD And ITunes Version Of NBC. They Start With The Touchstone Pictures Intro.
Yes I have some collectibles I bought in Japan long time ago still with touchstone's logo
I really like those chairs.
Watch the clip of bill burr roasting the shit out of them 😂

Never say never.
I saw the live concert version at Hollywood Bowl a few years ago. So much fun.
Somehow it's almost poetic for Nightmare to have come back to life after dying... like a zombie.

I bought the Jack and Zero figurine that I still have right after the movie came out, so I guess I got lucky before they pulled the merchandising!
Elton John/Stephen King hybrid.
I almost thought the same thing but I was more like Elton John and Tim Curry hybrid.
@@jamieroo4520 and throw in a bit of Bill Gates
Nightmare Before Christmas, Galaxy Quest, Shawshank Redemption and Emperor's New Groove are classic examples of films that became classics long after their disappointing or modest theatrical run.
Kids like it because the parents love it and their kids watch it growing up.
Love that movie nightmare befor Christmas music best
SCTV - O'Hara ruled.
'If you had 6 fingers, perhaps you could"
Peeps, if your kids don’t know what this movie is..SHOW THEM! That is all..
Broo he loki looks like Elton John
first modern score to a comic book movie was Superman by John Williams to this day still the most revered superhero theme.
There are two iconic super hero themes, Superman by JW and Batman by Danny. Ever since those two themes came out, there has never been a better theme for either one and probably never will be
that uptalking
Roger rtewwr the interviewer drives me crazy.
Danny Elfman in NBC sounds nothing like the Elfman.Oingo Boingo I grew up listening to in the 80's - zero similarities. This interviewer is lost.
I definitely see similarities between the two. And there's more reason for them to be similar than for them to be totally disparate.
Listen to Nasty Habits. That’s definitely a glimpse of that dark, odd cinematic style
The hipocresy from that interviewer is oozing out of his ears. Hollywood is the meaning of arrogance

Excuse me, it isn't actually, not anymore, we do not need john Williams anymore for Star Wars, it's done for good.
This dinosaur streetshark looking guy ruined the justice league soundtrack.
On top of all the issues with JUSTICE League, his soundtrack was absolute GARBAGE.
Yea the Soundtrack is the *BEST* thing in the movie !!!
The flash theme in JL is really good !!!
Absolute garbage I'll disagree with, although to say it was GREAT is also uhhh... nahh! There was a lot left to be desired. Also 'dinosaur streetshark' made me inhale my coffee :') christ
