    Did I hear Danny Elfman say that a lot of people thought his music with Nightmare Before Christmas was a failure and they hated it? :( I loved that movie so much, and the music was my favorite part about it. When I tried to show the movie to other people around the time it fist came out, no one seems to have even heard of it. It was sad. :( I'm glad the movie has gotten to be as popular as it is today! :)

      The funny thing is even as a little kid I picked up on that. Like I wanted to see it at first and I knew it was a kid’s movie but at some point it was like all of a sudden the marketing for the movie became more adult? And I didn’t get to see it until I was older because hardly anybody had it on video and they never showed it on Disney Channel... until my teens, around the time that they discovered all that Jack and Sally stuff in Japan, when all of a sudden they were not only playing the movie ad nauseum during Halloween season but they even played “This is Halloween” during every commercial break.

    Heh--"Don't f*** with Christmas." Ironically, that seems to be one of the lessons Jack learned in the movie. As far as Manson goes, I'm not into his music in general, but I think he did a kick-ass job on his rendition of "This is Halloween". And he cracks me up in interviews. ^^

    I remember going to the theater back in 1993 and seeing Nightmare Before Christmas on opening day. There were three people in the audience, including us. Such a strange thing. And I loved the shit out of the film. Just loved it. The following year I had my parents buy me a LaserDisc Player and I bought the CAV LaserDisc BoxSet of this film and it blew my mind. That was the first time I saw Vincent, or heard Henry Selick talk on commentary and it was amazing. Nobody liked this movie back then. There weren't action figures or collectibles, nothing. It was like it was blacklisted or something. Then slowly, like a virus, it began to encroach on everyone's lives and now Walt Disney World embraces the shit out of this film, especially around the holidays! It's amazing to see people embracing one of my favorite films the same way I did back in 1993, when nobody knew what the fuck I was talking about. Truly amazing.

    • @arcangel737
      @arcangel737 10 лет назад +13

      Actually, Danny Elfman was a "rock star" about the time he wrote his first score, of course this was in the sixties, the band was "the knights of boingo" and it later became "oingo boingo" the first score he wrote was for his brother Richard in the (I think) late sixties.

    • @ShinigamiComplex
      @ShinigamiComplex 9 лет назад +13

      arc Angel Heh, Danny would be like, 80 if the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo/Oingo Boingo started in the 60's. Mystic Knights were his brother's theatre troupe in the 70's. Turned into Oingo Boingo the rock band led by Danny in '79, and he was already ~26 by then. Score came before rock band but just barely. ;)

    Calm down guys we all have our own opinions! We can share what we think but I don't think we should call Manson mean names if you don't like him. I don't love his music, but I sort of like it. That's my opinion on him because not everyone has to like or love it. You can say whatever as long as you think it through, and by thinking about your comment a little bit more you won't get into a small or big mess of people who do or don't like your comment. So think about the people who do like it! :)

    It took people over 10 years to see any decency in this movie, when Hot Topic started to market it more. It's just a re-written version of the Grinch or Scrooge though, it's starting to get redundant.

    • @crazy_acid77
      @crazy_acid77 10 лет назад +18

      Absolutely not. Just because the film has to do with the destruction of Christmas, it doesn't mean that it's a re-written concept by any means. The Nightmare Before Christmas is the story of a man who tires of his regular routine and seeks something new and grand. He's fascinated by another "culture" if you will, and decides to adopt it as his own. Failing miserably to adopt the culture, he mourns his failure and experiences regret. Shortly after, he realizes he's perfect just the way he is and becomes happy with what he has. Instead of letting his failure ruin him, he shrugs it off as an eventful learning experience.
      It's quite possibly my favorite film of all time. If you study the movie at face value, you'd think it's about Halloween and Christmas - but it's not; those are only two components of the film. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" or "A Christmas Carol" are two completely different cans of worms. If you compare those two to Tim Burton's film, then you've obviously let the meaning of the Nightmare Before Christmas slip right under your nose. I do agree with you, however, that companies like Hot Topic marketing The Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise are milking such a brilliant movie. It's also bringing some undesirable scene girls into the mix. It's a shame, because people who are actual fans of the movie have to be subjected to little scene girls who think they understand it.

    This album was an unfortunate piece of shit. Only a couple songs are even listenable and Manson's isn't one of them. Huge disappointment.

      At least Shiny Toy Guns was spot on. Despite how YTers love to applaud the first half and not the second. Sigh.

      I only liked Marilyn's and Korn's. Everything else sucked.

    Manson meet talent! Manson equals mashing up Bauhaus, Pink Floyd, Bowie, Alice Cooper....vs......now who has Danny Elfman copied directly? Manson is as original as David Coverdale or Green Day.....or the Happy Birthday song.

      I guess when people have set-in-stone predetermined opinions about something, and are presented with something that counters that opinion, they can't help but conjure up petty unrelated comparisons in an attempt to pretend that what they're seeing doesn't matter.
      Really tho, this comments section is full of insecure projecting idiots like you. You are presented with a video in which both people compliment each others work, with an obvious friendly relationship. and you people just have to come up with scenarios like "oh I bet Elfman must be thinking he's worthless compared to him" by flat-out ignoring wha's being said in the video like someone in denial repressing bad memories. In short, stop projecting your opinion of Manson onto Elfman, people. It's painfully obvious that you like Elfman and dislike Marilyn and just can't cope with the idea that someone whose work you like might like the work of someone you don't. It's not a Vs., no one's competing, stop projecting and grow up.

      +BathroomTile Jesus, Bathroom Tile. Did I make your little Manson tingle? Dispute my slightly drunk hypothesis, you have not. Manson is a smart ripoff artist. I like his music...just as I like the music/images/fashion/stage acts of the artists he stole from. He did pick from the best. He combined the best of the goth(Bauhaus) with the best of the glam(Bowie), and added in the distopian imagery of Floyd with the stage presence of Cooper. Add a pinch of KISS and metal....and....you....get.......Manson. Now do the same with Oingo Boingo or Danny Elfman. Can't. I am talking original visionaries here. BTW, I like and admire Manson's music, intellect, and his willingness to step forward to debate the issues of today. But, now I have to clarify my statement too "insecure projecting idiots like you".
