  • Founded in 1880, Pierre was selected as South Dakota's state capital when the territory was admitted as a state in 1889. Today it's a lush green small town on the banks of the Missouri River, surrounded by both rich history and remarkably diverse outdoor recreation. Join us for this glimpse of central South Dakota!

    ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a RUclips channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and dog Zoe are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on RUclips, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're "long-timers" who tend to hit the road for weeks or months at a time, while maintaining a sticks-and-bricks home in Utah.
We'll provide beautiful travel videos, as well as some tips and insight on trip planning, and equipping and maintaining your RV to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

Larry wants to drone like you. 🤣😂 You are wearing a jacket? Envious. It’s so hot 🥵 here. $15 a night? I’m loving small parks. Our current spot is one of eighteen. So close to the water 😃. That does look like a nice hike. Deer ❤️ Very interesting historical facts. That town reminds me of the town we just moved away from. DeLand, Florida. Great B roll. As always. Too bad there isn’t more of the fort left. I bet it was packed for Memorial Day. Yes. Waterfront. Another one. Thanks. Alice

Thank you! Full time RVing is the time of lockdowns has been challenging, but not impossible. I was sheltering-in-place by parking on my daughter's driveway until the landlord decided to sell the property (in spite of governor's orders) so I had to leave. I saw that you were still traveling and it gave me courage to hit the road. It was surprisingly easy to travel from state to state as long as I followed local regulations. Can't wait for it to arrive, but I'm in Ontario, so it may take a while. I've done 2 trips to visit my son in Colorado and Utah with the trailer, but now it's time for something more serious. I'm looking to convert a van for my future grand adventures, probably starting in the spring of 2021, or when ever life blesses me with the opportunity. Speed limit was 80 miles per hour I had to slow down to 65 or so. I thought I was going to have to surgical remove the Tundra seat from my a$$ when I got to the Grand Canyon. Did you have any issues getting to SD?

    • @GrandAdventure

LOL @ the surgical removal, Danny! We get buffeted by winds all the time -- WY, SD, even in our home state of Utah. Most frustrating is watching the gas gauge drop with a headwind. We're using a Fastway Equalizer E2 hitch, and it does a commendable job of keeping everything straight, but there are definitely some white knuckle days.

I moved to Pierre literally one week before this video was shot, right after covid hit. Lived there for 2.5 years at the St. Charles before retiring and moving back to Louisiana. Obviously a lot different than the South. It's very isolated, 30 miles from the interstate and then another 2.5 hours to get to Sioux Falls to the east or Rapid City to the west. Never really assimilated into the community. Not the most welcoming and inviting place on the planet. Experienced two relatively mild winters and half of one beast. @@GrandAdventure I guess that is too be expected in the snow belt area. I spent a winter near the Okanagen Valley up in Williams Lake, BC. It wasn't too bad. By April things were heading into spring and May was beautiful. And they are further North than South Dakota.

2 out of 4 isn't bad. You got Pierre & Fort Pierre right. Oahe is pronounced ah-wa-HE. Not ah-wa-HEY. La Framboise is pronounced La From-boy. Finally you Fort Pierre Chouteau right with the proper French pronunciation of Pierre.

It helps to be married to someone whose native language is French. However, that's where the pronunciation of La Framboise came from. 😁

@@GrandAdventure yep, but local dialect. We pronounce Chouteau different than Missouri and Oklahoma does. I have no idea how Pierre Chouteau pronounced it.
