  • An insight into 4x4 access to Muriwai Beach through Wilsons Rd and Muriwai Township,
    Come along as we drive around lake Kereta and through Woodhill Forest for access to the top end of the beach
    We do a bit of fishing and site seeing and end up exiting at Muriwai Township after a splash in the creek
    Note a Permit is required for 4x4 vehicle access to the beach
    Permits are free and can be filled out on line and printable through Auckland council web site
    Respect the beach the forest and the local community
    Note that access is also prohibited to the NZ Military “Bombing Range”

    I like the video.Having driven this beach for over 30yrs.
    Driving so close to water line is actually incredibly dangerous and unpredictable.
    This is how many vehicles have had accidents on the beach.
    You should actually drive slightly further up , where the sand is still firm ,and less chance of hidden soft spots. My 2 cs
    Great to see you enjoying and respectful of the wonderful place cheers

      Speed is the key on any part of the beach
      Simply most people need to just slow down because yes the sand is unpredictable

    It is ridiculous that they closed off rimmer road access. It has an easement on it for the public to access the beach but the group that own the forest claim the auckland council should maintain it. Now they just closed the public access way even for surfers.

      @@bartdeking totally agree
      The argument is that we can’t even get emergency vehicles out there without going in from each end of the beach
      Rimmer’s was our access for years and a good exit point if the tide got to high

    Can you drop a location of where the access is from wilson road?

      I can’t post a pin on here sorry
      If you mean off Wilson’s road end drive just past Kereta lake and the entrance to the beach track is on the right
      You will see a sign for the Bombing Range at the entrance

    What tyre pressure do you deflate to

    • @JL2OFFRD
      @JL2OFFRD  3 месяца назад

      Usually between 18-22 psi on muriwai as when the tide is out it’s a pretty hard surface
      You can always stop and let more out along the way

    awesome vlog but I'm not a fan of your low profile tyres. I'd stick to traditional rim sizes for a bigger foot print.

    • @JL2OFFRD
      @JL2OFFRD  5 месяцев назад +2

      You would be amazed at how wide they get when they are down at 12-15 psi
      Ive had all different rim and tyre sizes over the years from 15” rims with 36” tyres to 17” with 33” tyres and the taller the profile the more sidewall flex you get sideways and the more unstable the vehicle becomes with low pressures
      We are finding these 295 33” with lower profile are working out well for both on and off-road and are certainly much wider when let down ,

      Thanks very much for showing the access to the beach . And explaining the road and beach conditions. Also now you have to have your vehicles registered with the Auckland City Council and carry your permit with you in your wagon . Cheers 🍺🍺🍺🍺🏄‍♂️🏄‍♂️🏄‍♂️🏄‍♂️👍👍👍
