This was a big cool thing, but years later, people find that the surface abrades off and you'd have to reapply to keep it hydrophobic. I just saw an entire pallet of NeverWet at the Dollar Tree Store this month. Probably because the wow factor wore off and people realized the effect is not permanent and not meant to be used on fabrics( or at least not long term, so much for keeping the shoes clean forever, or at least till they out grow 'em?)
It's beacuse of the microscale structure, which is like a Hedgehog. That cause a small outside pressure at the water bubble, which is smaller from the inside water bubble pressure due to the hydrodynamic pressure of the bubble. Due to that the bubble does not reduce its volume or it reduces at a very small amount of the initial volume. The angle that the bubble can be dropped from the surface is a parameter of the microdistance of that small spikes of the Hedgehog structure. I hope i helped a bit. King regards,

The End said it all. It was the Super Hydrophobic water that ran off the shoe. Not the Surface of the Shoe that was Treated.
