  • Fossil collecting at saltwick bay. I had a look to see if i could find any ammonite fossils. Saltwick bay is great to find a wide range of fossils. Always good to be out on the beach at Whitby, UK.

    at 18:43 you picked up a small rock but right next to it (above it on screen) was one of those pointy fossils, a bellomite...ancient squid things! I was surprised you didn't bother with it!

    My son and I find belomites along the coast of New Jersey, USA. Ours are smaller. Still fun to search. We talked last night about trip to England, hopefully in the future. Your video skills are just as excellent as your finds! Happy New Year.

    Close to the cliff is newest material, but life threatening environment. So, split your time 50% risky, but productive with 50% safe, but non-productive! If a rock slide occurs and you get buried quickly, that's one if the pre-conditions for fossilization. In 10 million years your bones may become a treasured find for someone.

    Very beautiful area. I wouldn't recognize a fossil if I saw it. Did it take you a while to develope an eye for it? Obviously your knowledge and natural abilities play a part.

    How do you tell the difference between fish and reptile bone? You seem to do it at a glance!

    • @ForgottenFossils
      @ForgottenFossils  3 года назад

      Really hard to explain. Fish bone is more flakey and reptile has honey comb bone structure.
