  • Unexpected huge tides resulted in a Productive fossil hunt.
    I had a great surprise after heading onto the beach, the huge tides had hit the cliffs through the morning and night and this had washed alot of fossils out from the cliffs.

    Greetings Liam ! Shockingly the "bivalve" looks amazinglyrics what we find in the Atlantic Ocean off Rhode Island- USA. Small versions maybe be called soft she'll cams and larger versions quahogs. RI is famous for quahogs vhowder. Quahog is pronounced here "" QUO-HOGG."". Found in the mud at low tide and csn be dug with a short handled rake or by hand. It was one of my favorite summer passtimes as a kid. My family enjoyed them BUT I never ate them....

    On the other side at Cap Blanc-Nez (France) the tides were also high, same result, fossils everywhere 😁. Nice video!

    The fossil at 2:02 and 2:03 would you take that further out of the stone or leave as is? also do you ever take the fossils home and work to remove the rock with drills or such?

    Great video. The amount of marine reptile bones is amazing.😀 Love also the bivalves.👍🏻
    I would be pleased if you do a preparation video 😉
    One question: Is it a huge belemnite rostrum at 2:40 ?

    • @ForgottenFossils
      @ForgottenFossils  4 года назад +1

      Thank you! Marine reptile bone is one of my favorite things to find, although it takes a hell of a lot of looking for. It’s a belemnite phragmocone.

    Wow 😮 what a hunt! I don’t get that many good finds in months. Where are we in this video? I will visit next week and have a hunt!

    • @ForgottenFossils
      @ForgottenFossils  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Ethan, although big tides dont always mean you’ll have a successful hunt because one tide can push loads of sand on the beach and cover all the rocks.

      Whitby Fossils ohh 😯 I didn’t know that! Normally I just go on a day with a rough sea 🌊 Liam where did you visit in this video?

    I'm not used to seeing belemnites this colour. They're orange on the beaches I use. Ammonites are very rare in these parts. Lots of echinoids and assorted bones though.

    • @ForgottenFossils
      @ForgottenFossils  4 года назад +2

      Sorry David, glad you enjoyed the video but sometimes I use music when the wind ruins my audio. It can get very windy on the beach and just sounds horrible because you cant hear a word i'm saying.

    • @davidwilson2581
      @davidwilson2581 4 года назад

      I can understand that and they're your videos you can do them the way you'd like obviously but I would just prefer to hear you talk about the fossils you found then the music but that's just my preference
