Yeah, I'm like this guy doesn't deserve any points because when you are styling over something by a genius composer. It has the queens of the stone age effect. Where you can have a solid song and the guitarist can play a melody off in his own world on top and it'll fit.

@manosassassin I think his point is that 90% of it has already been made. Personally I can't stand core kids that say metallica and megadeht aren't heavy for example. I think in metal when it comes to "heaviness" there is a difference of definition. For modern fans it's all about the breakdown. For someone like me I'm 20 I enjoy some modern and classic. My preferred genre is thrash. So whats heavy for me probably is weak for you because your definition of heavy is all about "breakdowns" in low tunings using the top string only 😂
@@manassehdouglas5968 I see, that's a different point entirely though. It does come down to your own interpretation and to me it's not just the guitar that makes music heavy.

I think too many people end up writing music in a linear way - like stream of consciousness - and they end up with something with very little repetition or things to remember because it's changing every 30 seconds

One of the notable characteristics of progressive genres is how they usually avoid repetition. Doesn't mean it has to be "stream of consciousness" or any less memorable than songs that repeat parts multiple times.

I agree that a lot of stuff in metal sounds the same and it has bothered me too. But this isn't only happening in metal. It applies to almost all music genres. You have to aknowledge that sounding unique is very difficult to do.
I also think it's more important to be expressive, than to be unique. You shouldn't force to do something different than others if it's not in alignment with the feeling you try to deliver.
Being unique isn’t hard. It’s just a matter of how much individualism you have. Most people are npcs so they all sound the same.

Honest expression is all that matters, and if you find yourself struggling with you journey the best thing you can do is just stop and ask yourself what you really hope to get out or to accomplish with your music. The better you can answer that question, the less you need to be searching for answers about your path.

Hey Rudy. I want to start playing the guitar but I have zero knowledge on it. I read through your course and it looks like I’m not the target audience for it, so I’m wondering if you’ll be doing a course for complete beginners

Learn dammit by blink 182 to get your foundations down like everybody else lol.
Then be sure when practicing to nurture your creativity. If you want to compose, you can't get there only ripping scales for hours. Experiment and flex your composition muscles in your routine. That's the best advice I can give.
Be confident but forever critical. Tear things down and rebuild them a million times. Obsess over your ideas.
