i had been waiting for this since last month when you revealed you were gonna do a RWBY build after the Yugi video. Actually, my brother was trying to build Ruby himself, but he went with a ranger at the time.
Episode #148 of the Fire Emblem stats: Ruby Rose. Since scythes count as lances in the newest Fire Emblem, that's what I'll count Crescent Rose's close-quarters mode as. In addition, she has strengths in bows (the sniper rifle part) and authority as the leader of RWBY. She's weak in brawling, swords, and faith since that's what the other members of RWBY are good at. She has great attack, dexterity, and speed, and average stats everywhere else.
I would give her a Budding Talent for Faith since her Silver Eyes would almost certainly be deemed as Faith magic and she is learning how to use them. And I assume Faith was meant to be Weiss because she is the closest to being a magic specialist, but I'm pretty sure she leans more to Reason. Both because of elemental abilities, and she did refer to herself as "the smartest girl in class" It would also make sense for that to be a disadvantage for Ruby too due to many scenes showing her lack intellect. I did not mean to type this much, I'll stop before I ramble
Really liked the build. I did created Ruby to be part of the history of the character I am currently playing with. My character is an Archvist Artificer that went ta a Magic/Combat Magic School, and team RWBY were some of his only friends; They are just at level 4, because they are in the same level as my character. So, for Ruby I am going with Artificer Battle Smith/Ranger Hunter; for the abilities of the ranger with Monsters and the Battle Smith for using intelligence for weapon attacks; she is a nerd for guns and she isn't strong without the weapon. Plus, the Iron defender could be called Zwei! Weiss is a bard; Blake is a rougue/ranger and Yang is a Monk/barbarian. We are talking about Ruby here... Aniway, liked the vídeo, just wanted to add an personal experience. (Sorry if some of the words are mispelled; my keybord is configurated to Portuguese)
Definitely not the direction I was expecting to see you take this build, but still very thorough and effective nonetheless! I made Ruby as a character in 5e before, and I just thought the Ranger was a near-perfect class for the "Huntress /Hunters" of that universe. So ultimately, I would've gone with high dexterity, medium wisdom, and decent charisma, and made some combination of Horizon Walker Ranger (at least 11 levels for that distant strike ability) plus a couple into Kensei Monk for the ability to use dexterity with a crossbow and re-flavored Battle Axe/Longsword (would've gone with glaive, but it's a heavy weapon, so it doesnt work with kensei :(. Plus, there are some times when Ruby one-hands that giant scythe, so something tells me it's not exactly the heaviest weapon, especially considering the amount of control she has over it - effectively fighting with a giant razor blade)
Excellent video, really enjoying seeing how RWBY characters fight on the tabletop. Also, the UA/Mordenkainen's Eladrin would be an alternate option if you wanted to get the semblance immediately, with the seasonal abilities either being representational of the four maidens (I know Ruby Isn't one, but it's still kinda cool) or could be reflavoured as other abilities (winter being silver eyes, summer being fire Dust, etc).
Love the video, Commander's Strike seems an excellent fit for Ruby as a team leader and team-attack creator, but really love the build! Celestial Warlock is clever for silver eyes and bullets!
have you seen the Wizard Spell list? It honestly covers everything you need for her. Including summons, and Bladesinger actually helps concentration for summons and other spells with Bladesong. only thing she'd actually be missing out on is the "beast" type summons as Wizard lacks "Conjure Animals." I'd personally go Human Bard. Either Swords, Valor, or Lore depending on what you want to focus more on. magical secrets will help her gain whatever summons she lacks.
@@HighPhoenix1754 My problem isn't the spells, it's the fact that the spells lack power (and I've played summoner spellcasters with the regular and UA summoning spells). Unless she went Conjuration, they'd be hella brittle and cost her spell slots at higher levels where enemies are dealing more than 60 damage total
College of Swords Bard, multiclassed into Bladesinger Wizard. Full spell slot progression, and between Bladesinging and Blade Flourishes, she'll have a LOT of sword tricks. Summoning can be taken care of with the 5th level spell (Conjure Elemental). Reflavor an Earth Elemental as the Arma Gigas, and the Air Elemental as the Queen Lancer.

But hey, your warning was probably coming from good intentions, so thanks anyway, hope you have a good day
I made a Ruby build a few days ago and gotta say, we came up with 2 very different characters. I went with a Scorge Assimar who was mostly Horizon Walker Ranger and few levels in Battle master
I'm so glad you are doing this one. Been racking my brain for a good year on it, and I know others on the internet have been trying too. Excited to see the expert apply his skills to this puzzler. Good luck on not getting copyrighted though. As a former RWBY youtuber, any video with clips of the show has been notoriously difficult to keep free from the claims.
Mallengar Not really Rooster Teeth's fault though. CRWBY tends to encourage RWBY-tubers. It's RUclips's dumb algorithm that's the problem as well as a big part of why RT doesn't put their shows on RUclips anymore (or at least not add early as they did).
@@justincaviness I didn't say it was. I never even mentioned RT. But let's not talk about that stuff here. I don't want to start that discussion here in his comment section. He doesn't need that kind of attention.
I was so excited to see this appear in my subscriptions feed today and, while generally okay with the majority of what you offered for this build, I would at the very least make sure to get the Warlock side of things online sooner. to be multiclassed by 5th level. I would also probably do a few swaps when it comes to spells chosen. Since I would want her to be able to fight both in melee and at range as soon as possible, where I felt you having the Warlock's eldritch blast being her "sniper rifle" side of attacks as a very creative way of handling things.
(Wildly hits subscribe button) That was AWESOME!!!! Love the show and character, thought the in jokes and commentary were great and good spirited and the build sounds really cool!

@Tulok The Barbarian. In the intro you mention that “Kiss From A Rose” by Seal was written for 1995’s Batman Forever. Factually incorrect sir. Song was written in the late 80’s. Seal thought the song sucked so he shelved it. The song then debuted on Seal’s 1994 album, Seal II. When making the Batman Forever movie, Seal’s song was originally planned to play in the movie during a love scene. The scene was ultimately scrapped, but they decided to reuse Seal’s song as the end credits music.

Tulok: * going over the "study your enemy" feat* Me: "I'm a professional, sweetheart. Pay attention, maybe you'll learn something." (Kudos to anyone who got that reference)
A lot of others online tried to make Ruby a Ranger, but I’m not entirely sure it would be the best idea. She’s mostly for kicking people’s butts. Could make her an Aasimar to get her powers.
Been looking forward to this since the poll popped up! Very different to my idea of building her, which was Hunter Ranger 8 and Divine Soul Sorcerer 12. Although this did make me realise I didn't really add any petrification spells to her spell list...
I do one shot in my friends and I game to give the regular DM a break and I had them fighting mind controlled versions of RWBY characters, I already did Blake and Weiss and I couldn't decide what Ruby herself would be. So this is great help.
Given how often Tulok mentions calligraphy, I wonder what would happen if he was asked to make a build for Samurai Sentai Shinkenger. That's all about calligraphy and swordplay.
This was pretty awesome, and had some nice touches (misty step, genius). My only disagreement is making Ruby a strength oriented character, but I can see why you did that for the build. I don't think Ruby is weak by any stretch, but I feel dexterity is her strong point, and she uses the recoil of firing her scythe to hit enemies, or using it's kinetic energy. She uses her agility to manipulate it for big damage. In the show we never really see any feats of her having great physical strength, except that she is FAST. Not sure how you would translate that into 5E myself, so I'm down with this, especially since you didn't dip into homebrew or unearthed arcana.
Hey so, I got bored one day and decided to try and make my own build for Ruby. I don't know if it's as viable, but I think it's more in-line with Ruby's character. I used point-buy to make this, but standard array should shouldn't change things to much. I still went with variant human to start, but chose the Sharpshooter feat instead since she's a sniper and that's how she rolls, and upped Str/Cha. I also used the Folk Hero background, but the homebrew one in the video works too. For ability scores, I put 15 in Dex, 14 in Charisma, 12 in Strength and Con, 10 in Intelligence, and 9 in Wisdom. My main goal was to make Ruby speedy rather than making her hit hard, though I'd still like to think I made her a human blender like in the show. I took proficiencies in Athletics and acrobatics, (Ruby's a nimble little thing after all) Nature, investigation, and Perception (All of which would be helpful to a Huntress) and Stealth and Survival (They were the only helpful skill I could get from the Martial Archetype) I started off with fighter as well (I thought about ranger, but fighter just makes more sense) Gave her the great weapon fighting style, a glaive and a longbow with leather armor. (Corsets are made of leather, right? Literally all of Ruby's outfits have a corset) And you can just say the bow is somehow built into the scythe. I know that doesn't make any sense, but either do most of the weapons in RWBY. Ember Celica are shotgun gauntlets, for god's sake. Yang should have blown her own hands off years ago. For the Martial Archetype, While I think Battle Master could work just as well, I went with Scout from Unearthed Arcana. Survival Superiority and Precision Attack are both good, but Scout's Evasion is where this Archetype really comes in handy. If you get hit while wearing light armor, (Which we are) you can add a superiority die to you AC. And even if it still hits, you only take half damage. Natural Explorer also makes a fair bit of sense, considering she lead three other people across an entire continent once. I got to Fighter level 4 and took the Fey Toughed feat, which boosted my Charisma, allowed me to use Misty Step (Semblance baby) and learn one other divination or enchantment spell. I chose Hunter's Mark, It just seemed to make sense for Ruby. And at 5th level, I went into Sorcerer instead of Warlock. Considering the Silver Eyes power is hereditary power specifically called magic in universe, that literally makes Ruby a Sorcerer. I went with Divine Soul Sorcerer so Ruby could shoot light out of her face with spells like Light, Dancing Lights, Guiding Bolt, and Scorching Ray. Also got Expeditious Retreat for extra mobility, and Gust of Wind to mimic Ruby being able to use her Semblance create slip streams strong enough to pin four people to a wall. Also Firebolt, Ray of Frost, and Shocking Grasp to act as fire, ice, and lightning dust rounds for her scythe. Along with True Strike to make hitting things easier. (Also Minor Illusion and Prestidigitation cause I needed to fill the cantrips out) I stuck with Sorcerer for three levels to get the Favored by the Gods ability, and the Empowered Spell and Heightened Spell for Metamagic. After that I just went full in with fighter until level 17. And got the Inspiring Leader feat at level 16. At level 20, Ruby had 123 HP, 16 AC, 16 Strength, 20 Dex, 12 Con, 10 Intelligence, 9, Wisdom, And 16 Charisma. She can attack three times per round, has two Action Surges, five Superiority die and Sorcery points, and six uses of Indominable. She can use eight cantrips, four level 1 spells, and three level 2 spells. So what do you guys think? Is this at all useable?
1:48 "Just know that later in life you're gonna feel an immeasurable pressure to be successful that will undoubtedly give you some sort of anxiety" This hits differently after Episode 7 of Volume 9.
Teamwork can mend your squishyness. Aid can stack with temp hp, shield of faith gives 2 ac, you can get a Warding Bond from someone for +1 ac and damage resistance. Finally your saves can be buffed by a Paladin's Aura. Also if you want more defense and UA's on the table you can swap Great Weapon FS for Mariner FS, that's one more AC. Haste can also add +2. So you go up to 15+2+1(+1)+2 AC with four attacks (6 or 4 + Eldritch Blast or Double Eldritch Blast with Action Surge) and +1 to +5 saves thanks to a Paladin. Stacks with Bless :) (That's exactly 3 concentration spells cast on you, Warding Bond doesn't require concentration).
a character i would love to see is Lord Shaxx from the destiny games. He would need a few things. Heavy armor: Shaxx is a titan, and well known for using his body to shield allies from incoming fire. Striker Abilities: While Shaxx has access to every titan subclass, he notoriously favors the AOE lightning of the Striker subclass. Hand Cannon: Shaxx is capable with all types of firearms, but the weapon we see the most on him is his trusty revolver. Raze Lighter: Shaxx's true weapon of choice is the large flame wreathed Raze Lighter, a powerful weapon made using the core of Willbreaker, the blade once used by the taken king Oryx. Leadership: Shaxx is one of the heroes of Twilight Gap, and a prominent leader in the Last City.
This turned out far more practical than I thought it would. If you don't mind breaking character for some decent armour, this build could kick some serious butt. Grabbing some chain mail, or even plate (her strength can handle it), negates the poor AC, and shouldn't impact the rest of the build, unless I'm missing something. (also grabbing a different evocation than armour of shadows) Other than that, a Cloak of protection fits the character design, and if can find a +2 or +3 one, run wih it.

Idk how much you know about souls lore, but the character is actually pretty interesting for an optional boss, maybe you could look into making him in dnd? Thanks, and keep makin vids!
Updated version folks: would be at least 2 levels into hexblade, getting agonizing blast, and repelling blast. Then 6 levels into blade singer for their unique extra attack of getting an attack then e blast. I would recommend PAM, and warcaster using a glaive. Then you can go whatever you like.
it would be great to see you build Qrow Branwen or Tyrian Callows. Perhaps Tyrian would be a Path of the Beast barbarian so when he rages, he gains access to his tail; perhaps a few levels of Monk on top of that for his incredible speed and great unarmed prowess.

Since then I've always hoped you'd do a build regarding the two main characters of the Guilty Gear series. Recently I've gone back to thinking about it because the Strive closed beta was held last weekend and hoo boy that hyped me a lot
Could have seen this going a couple levels of Rogue and taking the Mobile Feat to pick that speed up to where it should be for Ruby. I would have leaned into that rather than the eyes since they haven't been that frequently used and she can't do it at will, but she relies on her speed all the time.

They are just at level 4, because they are in the same level as my character.
He used the community version of “Kiss From A Rose.” Intentional or not, it’s hilarious
Intentional. Community is one of my favorite shows, and their cover was less likely to get copyright claimed. :)
It's explicitly *very* heavy, other characters have had to move it and always comment about how heavy it is.
Been waiting for this build. The one I want most is Yang but damn, it is great having you check out RWBY.
This is the day I’ve been waiting for
God, please do Weiss next! It'd be so cool if you actually made her a capable duelist with summoning
Half-elf bladesinger wizard
@@michaelbryant3640
That doesn't cover the summoning, she'd be losing out on crazy powerful stuff like the Arma Gigas
have you seen the Wizard Spell list?
It honestly covers everything you need for her.
Including summons, and Bladesinger actually helps concentration for summons and other spells with Bladesong.
only thing she'd actually be missing out on is the "beast" type summons as Wizard lacks "Conjure Animals."
I'd personally go Human Bard.
Either Swords, Valor, or Lore depending on what you want to focus more on.
magical secrets will help her gain whatever summons she lacks.
@@HighPhoenix1754
My problem isn't the spells, it's the fact that the spells lack power (and I've played summoner spellcasters with the regular and UA summoning spells).
This build is combat ready!
On that note, Penny would be cool to see with the whole multiple swords and beam weapons thing.
I'd like to see a Danny Phantom build!
Me too
I haven't watched RWBY in two years, this build might give me a reason to get back in. Well, this video and BlazBlue Cross Tag.
Even if I main the other scythe wielded in that game
Ecto_Specto if you do get back into it then DONT follow the fandom, unless you're into relentless shipping, that is. But not all of it is bad, so enter the fandom at your own risk, I guess?
Just watch season 1-3 and then jump to 7 because all the other ones are terrible
I don't really get into fandoms (and I already knew that RWBY's wasn't good), but thanks for the reminder.
I'll probably rewatch all of it (I saw up to the end of season 5) mainly because I do remember enjoying it and I'm not really a stickler for quality.
But hey, your warning was probably coming from good intentions, so thanks anyway, hope you have a good day
José Renato Migliorini I wouldn't say that, even though 4-6 was slow it builds up the overall lore of the story.
Ecto_Specto yeah i made the mistake of looking, just trying to warn people who might get turned off by it.
I made a Ruby build a few days ago and gotta say, we came up with 2 very different characters. I went with a Scorge Assimar who was mostly Horizon Walker Ranger and few levels in Battle master
From an "Uncle's nest"...I see what you did there, and yes, I chuckled. Also the hand thing...too soon. Always too soon.
I remember seeing the poll and was wondering when this would come out, awesome video.
@@justincaviness
I didn't say it was. I never even mentioned RT.
But let's not talk about that stuff here. I don't want to start that discussion here in his comment section. He doesn't need that kind of attention.
Mallengar Understood and agreed. Just thought I'd point out how shitty RUclips is on that front.
Awww hell yeah. Nice to see some RWBY representation.
Aaaaahhh finally an episode for my favorite show! Bless
This really helps a whole ton, ive been trying to make a rwby oc with dnd parameters for a WHILE
I was so excited to see this appear in my subscriptions feed today and, while generally okay with the majority of what you offered for this build, I would at the very least make sure to get the Warlock side of things online sooner. to be multiclassed by 5th level. I would also probably do a few swaps when it comes to spells chosen. Since I would want her to be able to fight both in melee and at range as soon as possible, where I felt you having the Warlock's eldritch blast being her "sniper rifle" side of attacks as a very creative way of handling things.
OMG this is amazing, Ill be on the Penny waiting room
I hope he does Penny.
Basically a flying warforged Paladin?
@@SH-qs7ee Would she be a Paladin? It fits her character, but not all her abilities. Warforged is kind of a given.
@@SH-qs7eei can see a war cleric for the spiritual weapon. He does not do itens but could also have a dancing sword

(Wildly hits subscribe button) That was AWESOME!!!! Love the show and character, thought the in jokes and commentary were great and good spirited and the build sounds really cool!
"Take calligraphy I guess"
Ah, bonding time with Wise I see. Excellent roleplaying. Strange that Ruby stayed awake for it though.
Ippo or Little Mac. Boxing is underused as a character build
Mostly Open Hand Monk, right?
@@hyliandoctor i made a Drunken Master monk and reflavored it to be more like boxing, since the whole shtick of the subclass is "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee"
If you want the power of their hits, use Open Hand monk. If you want the bob and weave flavor of boxing, go drunken fist.
Johnny cage would be interesting
@@Megidramon Considering there are 3 styles of boxing (not including boxer-puncher), 3 different builds could work. For swarmer, focus on number of hits (fighter multiclass), for slugger, focus on pure damage/hit (open hand) and for out-boxer, focus on mobility, dodging and/or countering (drunken master).
how would you make a build for Kindred from League of Legends?
(ruclips.net/video/h0Pwn7G-eLE/видео.html)
So I now am prepping to binge your character designs, hope for more RWBY but I already see a separate marvel playlist so already yay!
"Friends is a terrible spell for making friends." idk why that makes me laugh so much XD
CS19 You know what Jaune says "Strangers are just friends you haven't casted Friends on yet."
Great video dude! Keep on keeping on and can't wait to see Thursdays vid!
Your point about the Aasimar is a good one. I was thinking Scourge because their 3rd-level ability is a lot like Ruby's eyes in a lot of ways.
Bro I swear you’re stalking me! Every time I start a new show you make a building character for a character from that series
4:47 It's a combat skirt
I was wondering if you'd be willing to do a build for one of the horsemen from the Darksiders games? Each horseman would be a completely different build from the other three.
Tulok: * going over the "study your enemy" feat*

Tulok, you madman!
Next character idea: Sung Jin Woo from Solo Leveling. An absolute beast and I’m interested to see how you make him in DnD
oo sine combination of rogue and necromancer does sound fun
Congrats on the Gizmodo article, Tulok!
A lot of others online tried to make Ruby a Ranger, but I’m not entirely sure it would be the best idea. She’s mostly for kicking people’s butts. Could make her an Aasimar to get her powers.
Then again, warlock seems better, because Ruby's eyes come from the god of light, not from her.
Brandon Rog Yeah I don’t disagree. I like this build a lot more than others I’ve seen. Though I might be biased because warlock is my favorite class.
If you do Repelling blast early and grab Warcaster, you can use the polearm opportunity attack to keep them from closing the distance
Please do Neo (from RWBY) please! I would love to see how you’d make her.
I read that thought you meant Neo from matrix I was like he's a God...
Trickery cleric would be a good start.
1:56 literally called out the entirity of vol 9, 2 years early
really good video, the only thing that I personally would add is at warlock lvls 9-12 replacing misty step with far step
I took proficiencies in Athletics and acrobatics, (Ruby's a nimble little thing after all) Nature, investigation, and Perception (All of which would be helpful to a Huntress) and Stealth and Survival (They were the only helpful skill I could get from the Martial Archetype)
I started off with fighter as well (I thought about ranger, but fighter just makes more sense) Gave her the great weapon fighting style, a glaive and a longbow with leather armor.
(Also Minor Illusion and Prestidigitation cause I needed to fill the cantrips out)
I stuck with Sorcerer for three levels to get the Favored by the Gods ability, and the Empowered Spell and Heightened Spell for Metamagic.
I was happy with my tiefling based on Vanir from Konosuba, but this is awsome! you rock :)
Been waiting for this loved it and need more of it
Having to watch the loop of RWBY footage in the back just makes the bad animation and models so much more apparent
Stacks with Bless :)
(That's exactly 3 concentration spells cast on you, Warding Bond doesn't require concentration).
a character i would love to see is Lord Shaxx from the destiny games.
I'm commenting to make the video higher priority for the RUclips algorithm.
"Wait, is this a Marluxia build?"
Damn
This turned out far more practical than I thought it would. If you don't mind breaking character for some decent armour, this build could kick some serious butt. Grabbing some chain mail, or even plate (her strength can handle it), negates the poor AC, and shouldn't impact the rest of the build, unless I'm missing something. (also grabbing a different evocation than armour of shadows)
Other than that, a Cloak of protection fits the character design, and if can find a +2 or +3 one, run wih it.
Hey man, I love your videos and especially the frequent uploads, haha. I know you like dark souls, and I recently played through 3 again, and was thinking how sick it'd be to play the Nameless King in dnd.
Fuck yeah, I wasn't expecting to ever see a RWBY character, but damn I'm glad I have
Nightcrawler or reptile would be neat .
Hey Tulok, I've been following you since around the time KH3 released and you made builds for its characters. Since then I've always hoped you'd do a build regarding the two main characters of the Guilty Gear series.
Recently I've gone back to thinking about it because the Strive closed beta was held last weekend and hoo boy that hyped me a lot
In answer to the title card: Yes, I did.
Could have seen this going a couple levels of Rogue and taking the Mobile Feat to pick that speed up to where it should be for Ruby. I would have leaned into that rather than the eyes since they haven't been that frequently used and she can't do it at will, but she relies on her speed all the time.
For the record, I like to think Yang would have appreciated the 'give your sister a hand' pun
"You're the leader of the bunch, they know you well."
Donkey Kong/DK Crew builds when? (Great work as usual keep it up!)
