- A journey from Barcelona Sants to Paris Gare de Lyon by TGV Duplex high-speed train, on a crisp December day, only the 2nd day of operation of direct TGVs between Barcelona & Paris. For train times, fares & tickets from €39 see www.seat61.com...
The train skirts the Pyrenees, runs along the Mediterranean, past étangs (lakes) where colonies of flamingos feed one-legged in the shallows, past vineyards, the Fort de Salses, the Chateau de Montfaucon, and the pretty villages of the Rhone Valley.
There are 2 Paris-Barcelona TGV trains every day all year round and up to 3 in summer. They run at up to 300 km/h (186 mph) on the TGV-Sud-Est high-speed line and up to 320 km/h (199 mph) on the Perpignan-Barcelona high-speed line. That's not too fast to enjoy the scenery, as you can see for yourself!
It's definitely better than flying in terms of traveling to the airport, check in, security controls, etc and then the beautiful landscape
yes, because you can also take normal luggage, not all those piss controls and airline jewish policy. want to register - pay, want to breath - pay, want to pee - pay. pay for every heartbeat. railways is still not so spoiled.
I couldn't agree more. That's just what we did on our trip to Paris. Instead of flying straight to Paris from Dubai, we went to Geneva and took the train.
Dave Mitxi "...airline Jewish policy"? Stereotype much?
point a to point b? bang on time thank you cheapskates!
Dave Mitxi I agreed with your view but sometime flight ticket is cheaper then train and flight save journey time.
I love the 7 minutes of traveling!!!
Wish I have money to visit Barcelona and Paris!
Possibly 2 of the most beautiful cities on this planet earth
Traveled a lot in train in France , Paris was most of the time the city to go for taking another train for another city , i was always happy to leave this place , too crowded , "dirty" , polluted , too big , apart of the monuments Paris is not a great place to live .
Also did a lot of military missions in Paris , i must say there is far better looking cities in France !
Toulouse , Bordeaux , Rouen , Strasbourg, Lyon , etc !
ZeroMat1 Every urban city in world is facing crowd, space, high property rates, crime, suffocation...
But the downfall of Paris is steeper than that of most major European cities.... The French can't bring themselves to say 'stop'! Thus losing their country.
Take it you’ve never been to Stenny naw?
Paris is a dumpster in my personal opinion. I was there in September 2019. Getting on the Eurostar back to London was the best part, even though I’m not a fan of London either lol.
wow. Europe is amazing
Come to visit us :)
How beautiful is Spain. Che bella è la Spagna. Qué hermosa es España.
Indeed
Reino Espana es muy bonita y gran nombre lugar por las turistas.

We'll be on this pup in May. Rather see the beautiful countryside up close
from the TGV than looking down from the air.
Thanks for your great vid. Hope to travel that train one day. Beautiful scenery along the way.
Third time I've viewed this; I never tire of it. Thanks.
Beautifully done and a gorgeous train and trip! Wow. Goes on my bucket list
I like the photography. Steady shooting and commentaries.
It's more expensive than flying but so much more relaxing and enjoyable and the trains tend to have the stations closer to the city center than any airport.

Wow France is so beautiful
It was like I was in a different world. Our 2-day stay in Paris was more like of a dream. I want to go back there if given the chance. Fingers crossed.
you will
Have you not been, believe me the train ride does not do France justice it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world I love the place so much I plan to move and live there within the next 2 years or so...........
Catalonia is so beautiful
The TGV duplex train from Barcelona, Spain to Paris, France is the best way to travel. When I travel long distance I take Amtrak trains. The United States, Canada, Australia's passenger train network outside of the Acela that Amtrak runs between Boston & Washington, DC is at best early 1960's. Japan, China, Taiwan, France, Spain, Belgium, Great Britain, Italy are in the 21st. Century with high speed trains.
6:15 omg that is where my grandmother lived :( in 1 of the tower on the left. I miss it there. Great vid btw
Can’t wait to do this trip. Much more enjoyable and relaxing than bloody flight full of hassles.
Wonderful cannot beat rail and river journeys.
Very nice video trip... still have same experience when I ride this TGV train from Barcelona to Paris last March 2018.. Thank you..
Beautifull video.............Beautifull photography...............and a beautifull generosity for posting this video in youtube..................Thanks a lot brother.
fantástico viaje lo ice dos veces y pienso volver
En cuanto tiempo hace el recorrido Barcelona - Paris?
Seat61 guy, what can I say another great video. Used your Eurostar London to Paris guide when I went there in sept 2019. Folks thought I must have done the trip before as I was pointing and saying go here do this etc. The glory goes to Seat61 guy.
Too bad this operation is not available in the US. You must drive or fly!
Looks likes a great ride!
no creo, un tren es mejor q un avión, es mas confort. Is not true, a train is best tan a plane, is moe confort
That works as a rule of thumb, but it's still a generalisation. With all the hassle with flying, like getting to the airport, getting through security, often a more limited frequency, getting from the airport to your destination... I'd say a direct train, even one that's slower, can be more interesting, because you can get on it more easily and faster from your point of departure in the city centre, there's less security theatre, so even if it takes you an hour longer, those hours can be more productive than on a plane, because of less interruptions, and it gets you closer to where you need to be, unless you need to be in the airport itself.
thanks a lot for the video! very detailed. i was willing to take this train instead of a ryanair terrible and early in the morning flight but this train ride seems more interesting.
Maravilloso video ,hermosos paisajes y el tren un lujo digno de poder difructarlo, gracias por la oportunidad de poder conocer de muy lejos esto tan hermoso......saludos..
france is so beautiful
I took from Lille to Paris. Only 55 minutes for 230 kilometers. I paid 25 euros. Definitely a good deal.
Way faster than driving a car
Bugaran yes and much less tiring
Very beautiful train journey. London to Edinburgh.

I love Barcelona
What a beautiful little video.
I'll be booking this train from Paris to Barcelona as soon as the late May dates open up, which should be any day now. As usual, I rely on The Man in Seat 61 website and RUclips videos to figure out the logistics. Information without the noise. Thanks, Mark.
All your videos are Excellent - My wife & I watch them over our Lunch very pleasant & entertaining. Thank You
I took this a couple of years ago from Barcelona to Paris. It’s a pleasant ride with great scenery, but it’s long - around 6 hours. I’d say 1/2 of that time is spent under 100mph, traveling between the Spanish and then French towns along the Mediterranean before turning into the mountains and slowly climbing over them. You seem to get stuck behind commuter trains a lot heading into the stations and have to wait for them as well. About 1/4 of the distance between Barcelona and Paris takes around 1/2 of the time.
Once you hit I think Nîmes the true high speed line begins and you SCREAM into Paris in less than 3 hours if memory serves, covering around 3/4 of the distance.
If you’re in a rush I’d recommend flying. Plane tickets are also cheaper BUT you’ll have to pay to travel to and from the airports on both ends and if you have to eat at one of them that alone can eat up most of any cost savings.
The train dumps you at Gare de Lyon in Paris, where a cheap city bus ride can get you to most destinations in central Paris.
Overall, if you have the time and don’t want to deal with a lot of stress I’d still recommend it over flying. But I can see why my train was only half-full on a weekday afternoon run.
Nice video.. I love TGV
Beautiful sceneries!!
The Man in Seat 61 !!!!!
We Indians don't deserve this type of luxury and cleanliness!!!
You deserve it as much as everybody else 😊

Barcelona to Paris by TGV high-speed train, wonderful train video, like it :)
God I love trains. Europeans have it right. America lags big time.
Not all America, Canada and Brazil have good ones.
@@juanflores2882 Not on this level
Not all Europeans but only France and Germany
@@raphaelborne8394 And Spain, Italy, UK, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Holland
Russia also have I think 2 or 3 high-speed train lines. For speeds of above 200km/h. Now even small countries like Serbia and Hungary building their high speed train line between Budapest and Belgrade. I think Serbia maybe even a line between Belgrade and Athens or Thessaloniki, I'm not sure...
Remarkably good video. Thank you.
Debe ser un hermoso viaje.
la Francia è bellissima

Will be taking this train from Barcelona to Nîmes in June 2019. Looks good
At 5:32, this is the Massif du Vercors, not the Alps. It is part of several mountain ridges called the Préalpes.
Départ 09:20, arrivé 15:50 according to the clock tower in Paris. Approx 6h30
Complimenti bella realizzazione.my compliment very godo work
Great video!👏👏👏
Great!
Barca is a love
Such an amazing landscape.
qui est le meilleur train du monde?
Beeindruckend!
Bravo Paris, consegnores a lui!
Quedé loco con el TGV!
Can you you buy the ticket on the station like 2 hours before?
Yes, same as you can buy a Heathrow to New York air ticket at the airport 2 hours before takeoff (you financial advisor can help you with second mortgages...)
How utterly civilized, even 2nd class looks a great product. X-raying people and bags should me mandatory in every European country to make out travels safer. Nice video Mark.
beautiful!!
I want to take this route!
Nice vid (PS : at 5.58 the TGV crosses river Saône near Mâcon (not the Rhône river)
+skyace69tum Well spotted! It crosses the Rhone enough times...
enjoyable 😊👍
Done this journey few months ago. Metro to gare du nord and thalys to Brussels, great day
Is there any document required to take this ticket, if someone takes a ticket from another country
@@theharman631 no if u r from eu
Great video, thanks. What happens to luggage ? Does it just sit on the racks, or is it locked away ? We're taking this Barcelno -> Paris in September, will probably have 3 x suitcases. Cheers.
KiwiShoot The same as on any European train, from my own local train line into London to TGVs to Barcelona to Tran-Siberians to Vladivostok - you take it with you and stick it on the racks somewhere.
Estoy interesado en saber de qué hora a qué hora fue este viaje... Si alguien sabe y me lo comenta se lo agradezco, desde ya muchas gracias y felicidades para todos.
i wish that the train in manila can be like this !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want go to Paris by this train and I have a question is the first clase with the food when you go to Paris ? Becuos is a long trip
I think you have to pay for that , TGVs tickets are damn expensive !
The price does not include food. But you can buy it on the train, or you can bring your own food and drinks on the train too.
always thought Spain and France had different track widths so how does this train manage this or has Spain adopted the standard 4ft 8.1/2 track the same as the rest of Europe?
Spain's new high-speed lines are standard gauge. Their classic lines are Iberian gauge.
Aslo existan interesant train called "ALVIA" that whit chanches of gague can go throw high velocity and clasic routes
The fascists after the notorious Franco have not been willing to any adaptation to anything but death!
@@MrKatajisto ignorant
@@MrKatajisto Your comment is out of place...It has no context here...
Ce bon, so in Spain is there a dedicated standard gauge rail system for the TGV?
Or are there combination wide gauge/standard gauge tracks?
Thanks for this video and the website. I just checked the fare for Barcelona to Paris for May 8th, a little under 3 months from now. It's $207 one way!!! This was the cheapest fare. Where/how on earth does one get a 39 euro fare?
He may have used Ouigo, the low cost TGV
Nvm
Any other route we can take to go to madrid using eurorail pass. This route is fully booked.
Thank you so much!
It is enjoyable as well
