    The last two teams that knocked Michael Jordan’s Bulls out of the playoffs were the Detroit Pistons (1990) and the Orlando Magic (1995). Both teams were swept the next year after beating Jordan’s Bulls. Revenge is a bitch.

      MJ came back and played the final 17 regular season games plus the 1995 playoffs. His first game back was at Indiana in March of 95. This was the year he scored the double nickel on NY. He wore #45 until game 2, of the conference semi’s at Orlando, when he switched back to #23. Chicago beat Charlotte in the first round 3-1 then lost to Orlando 2-4 in the Conference semi’s.

They knew when they went into the lane there weren't going to be any layups or dunks without a lot of contact. The Pistons knew the refs couldn't call everything so they just fouled all game long. If the refs called the game right they would have all fouled out in the 1st half.

I don't know of any situation where one team dominates another for 3 straight years and then the team that's been dominating forgets how to win a game?... Doesn't make sense, not how real life works, especially when injuries are involved. Question: Why did the Pistons break up their title-contending team? Why did Detroit play so hard vs. Boston just two days prior to the ECF and now forget how to compete or play hard vs. Chicago in the first two games? Thomas with only 9 shots in both of the first two games? Ouch. Who walked off: Aguirre, Laimbeer, Thomas... gee, I wonder where those guys are from? HAHAHAHA!!

  • @Bitshitter
    @Bitshitter 2 года назад +7

    This was the difference between the Detroit Pistons of this era, and old-school NBA defense. With old-school NBA defense, they made you pay to go to the basket. They would chop your arms, or go hard at your body as you laid the ball up. Wrap you up in a bear hug. They knew they would most likely get called for the foul, but that wasn't the point - the point was they'd make you understand that to score those points, you'd have to EARN them. That was old-school NBA defense, especially late in the season or during the post-season.
    What the Detroit Pistons of this era did, was they didn't hit you hard as you were scoring. They would hit you hard as you were scoring, and then hit you AGAIN AFTER you scored. And that was more like being bullies than playing old-school NBA basketball. That was like being sore losers, because you already earned your points, but then you have to pay MORE afterwards. So they would throw you to the ground, or Laimbeer would stick his elbows into the side of your neck or into your spine, AFTER you scored. Because he nor they couldn't stop you from scoring to begin with - they couldn't even hit you hard AS you were scoring. SO they just hit you AFTERWARDS. Or they would take it out on the next guy on your team who was coming in for the rebound in case you missed.
    And that was trash.........

  • @don8244
    @don8244 4 года назад +3

    Pistons struggled throughout the entire playoffs in '91, getting swept by a Bulls team ran through the superior triangle offense with the more skilled core they had assembled made sense. Those Pistons were depleted. When you play ball that physically for such a prolonged amount of time since the ECF vs Celtics in '87, it takes a toll on your body and it certainly doesn't help when most of those Bad Boys players outside of Dumars and Rodman were in the tail end of their primes.

    • @don8244
      @don8244 3 года назад +1

      @Ulysses432 30 years old in the early 90s is different compared to today. Guys went through a harder grind during the regular season and didn't have the same medicine/technology that they do now. Isiah was past it. He definitely had better years before then. Didn't look like the Zeke a few years prior. Very small handful of players then stayed in their prime at 30, a la Magic Johnson (and it showed, as he was runner-up to Jordan in MVP voting during the '91 season carrying a weakened Lakers team). Granted, Magic's a top 10 all-time GOATs staple. Can't really say the same for Isiah.
      No offense but James Edwards is a non-factor as after the 80s he had slowed down tremendously.
      John Salley was a small time role player. Not to knock on him for what he could do but he was more known for his fights than his actual play. Salley was less relevant than Luc Longley when he arrived in Chicago.
      If you compare what the Pistons did as back to back reigning champs in their 1991 season, it was pretty disappointing. It doesn't help they were in a tough division with the hungry Bulls, a dog Bucks squad and a rising Pacers team, but a lot of their play looked a tad slower and people were starting to write them off even by the 2nd round. Some felt that the emergence of Reggie Lewis and a healthy Celtics team could be the end of the Pistons in as early as the Eastern Semis. Although that didn't happen, the predictors via media were clear in what they had seen that the '91 Pistons were depleted.
