If you sing the melody along with him you will get a great appreciation of what he is doing. Following the form of the tune. This is killer! A real artist!
If I could play this well (and I certainly can't), I would be sweating profusely. The man is not breaking a sweat or breathing hard. He makes it all seem so effortless. He has the mark of someone who plays with consummate skill and musicianship. Well done!! Thanks for posting.!!
what a amazingly fantastic dream drummer! such dynamics and musicality! not a chop was wasted in this unbelievable solo! is just too rare not to get bored in a drum solo! they use to sizzle the drums like a burger! this man is a genius!
Jeff coached our combo @ Port Townsend, called one of our drum fills a "door slam," suggested we blend it a little better. I'll never forget that comment--he was right. We sat @ same table in a restaurant & talked for an hour and a half. He can play on top of the beat, or so laid back that you think he's going to miss the beat, or driving like he did with the Woody Herman big band. He is an intelligent, omnivorous guy w/ a creative streak that never rests, and top-tier aesthetics. Yay, Jeff.
once he played a solo on an untitled video and i immediately was like "hey, is this caravan?" and i scrolled down and everyone thought the same. so clear with his ideas
Wow! It's funny, a few months back I was playing my drum in the shed out back. I didn't want to bother the neighbors, so I lost the sticks and played with my hands. I thought I was being pretentious, but it sounded hella good! Here I"m watching my first few Jazz videos on YT and the second has a guy doing the same! I need to practice...
@totigerus Bonham did not steal, but was heavily influenced by Joe Morello and probably picked up on Joe's occasional playing part of the Take Five solo with his hands.
Nah. Looks like he wanted to play some more, but the audience thought it was the ending already... shame, this could have gone on for an other ten minutes and it would’ve been brilliant.

Definitely one of my favorite solos ever.

Incredible melodic!
Jazz drummers have the best touch in the world. I am a metal drummer and I'm still trying to refine my touch.............
Bears repeating: A drummer "is" a musician.
Jeff es uno de los mejores bateros del mundo.
Jeff Hamilton is such a great drummerist.
Just wow.

Thinking man's drummer!
A solo makes audiences very "Dizzy" :)
Wonderful musician
Best sensibilities I've seen on the kit since Morello.
drummerist? god, you're brilliant

Damn, I didn't know Seth Rogen played the drums!!
When the audience finishes your solo for you
This is superb.
.....What are the cymbals?
stephan fidock Bosphorus hammer series cymbals
Musical / percussion / drum set solo / treat.
not in any way comparing the two, but this reminds me of Terry Bozzio, only Terry Bozzio needs a 6 million piece kit to be this musical.
It seems they started clapping while he was in a low dynamic.... He started clapping because everybody did, he was still creating.
looks like it and sounds like it
who could probably dislike this?.... bass player...? haha
3-piece goodness.
yup
cant here the form at all but i love his playing
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Does anyone know what drumheads he's using?
Remo Fiberskyns

曲が聞こえる・・・
Remo Fibreskins
17 negative voters don't have the faintest idea...
Why does he clap for himself? Is he high?
Nah. Looks like he wanted to play some more, but the audience thought it was the ending already... shame, this could have gone on for an other ten minutes and it would’ve been brilliant.
